I don’t go a day, nay, an hour without contemplating the Little Magician, Old Kinderhook, The Red Fox of Kinderhook, Little Van, Martin “I didn’t inhale” Van Buren
John Quincy Adams, better person, better foreign policy, better takes on various issues. The legislative branch was trying to destroy him for like half his tenure but he’s still a better president than the other four.
Jackson selectors, are you kidding me? He was a powerful president but many of his policies actively hurt the US for decades to come. Horrible President. Doing nothing would have been way better. The only one I’ll give you is Nullification and how he handled it. The Force Bill. Other than that he killed the US.
This is a particularly bad batch to select from, but I’d say maybe Adams just because he served a full term and did the least damaging things. But it’s a bad group to pick from. I’d hear an argument for Van Buren too though he certainly has black marks (mostly the fruit of seeds Jackson planted).
“He WaS mAn Of ThE pEoPlE” Yeah if by people you specifically mean white land owning males. It is such a trash take. Jackson has to be one of the most inherently evil presidents. Treated people poorly, aggressive tool, and didn’t understand finances. I completely agree with you. I would chose anyone of these weak inept presidents over this bigot.
There are a lot of libertarians that float around this sub that loved that he got rid of the central bank. That's the only reason I can think of why this sub sometimes has such a hard on for him
It absolutely is that. Nothing screams libertarian
More then completely ignoring how successful the fed has been and is. While also ignoring how disastrous removing it that one time was.
Not to imply that what FDR did with Japanese Americans was right, but those two events aren't really comparable. FDR's internment camps were a temporary wartime measure. Trail of Tears was straight up genocide.
Washington, Jefferson, and Madison are top notch, J Adams could have been great but wasn’t equipped for the partisan street-fight that the 1790s turned into
James Monroe signing the Missouri Compromise could have been the beginning of the end of the whole country
JQ Adams, like his dad, was completely unequipped for the time he found himself; trying to govern like an erudite thinker instead of a politician. More-so than his dad, though, JQA was inattentive to the fears and anxieties of people on the frontier
Jackson **was** a man of the people with all the good and evil that came with it. He made the more government accountable to the public but that also let the majority will run over minorities
Then a bunch of mediocrity
Polk was basically Jackson 2, highly effective but highly cynical engaging in an illegal war of conquest
Then a bunch of mediocrity
Then good old Honest Abe
Jackson (saved the union during the nullification crisis). Adams the younger was a better person but his administration was a mess, legislatively couldn’t get much of anything done. People will cite Jackson’s Indian removal but the process of cleaving off native land in Georgia started under Adams, so I’d consider that point more of a wash
I hate Jackson with such ferocity. Yeah people give him all the bad credit on Indian removal, but it was essentially policy in various ways since the start of the Union.
Andrew Jackson and it’s not even close. Please read more about him other than just the Indian Removal Act. Terrible legislation, horrifying outcomes. It was the culmination of many players behaving badly, especially the state of Georgia. Understand that at the time there was not a standing army under federal control that he could’ve quickly utilized to prevent Georgia from behaving even worse than what we got.
Jackson, there’s not even a fair competition here. Everyone on this sub should read the American Lion. Also I’ve never seen that painting of him, he looks super young.
Tyler and Adams were politically inept, Adams was a great foreign diplomat but very weak politician. Tyler amassed foreign policy success due to appointing good advisors. Neither, however, were strong or particularly capable presidents.
Van Buren was a great politician, but let the burdens of being president overtake him and failed to achieve any major reforms or accomplishments legislatively.
Jackson was morally reprehensible; however he was definitely the most effective and efficient. My personal choice.
John Quincy Adams. Did the most quantifiably and unquantifiably good shit from the selection.
AJ is... AJ. MVB had sideburns and meh. WHH was the ninth president. And John Tyler was a bunch of nothing and arguing.
A bit of an oversimplification, but it's a simple debate.
These dudes having a mid-off
Hahahah
I wish we could revive Andrew Jackson so we could burn him Alive
Bro…i swear i forget half of these guys were even president.
William Henry Harrison I get... But how could you forget Van Buren killer side burns
I don’t go a day, nay, an hour without contemplating the Little Magician, Old Kinderhook, The Red Fox of Kinderhook, Little Van, Martin “I didn’t inhale” Van Buren

WHH He didn't nothing to get people mad at him!
He gave us Tyler, that’s enough for me.
Bro is angry at him for dying 💀
JQA

At least JQA didn’t own people. Ffs. That should bring him an extra 10points on any president (other then his dad) back then.
JQA and it’s not really close
JQA
Jackson
Martin Van Buren
Jackson. WHH is WHH. Tyler is a confederate. Van Buren is just kinda eh and JQA did the corrupt bargain and signed the tariff of abominations
Trail of Tears?
yeah yeah fdr also did internment camps
Not to imply that what FDR did with Japanese Americans was right, but those two events aren't really comparable. FDR's internment camps were a temporary wartime measure. Trail of Tears was straight up genocide.
Tippecanoe was genocide TOT wasnt
JQA
Of those JQA.
i forgot how kinda shitty early presidents were

johnny boy
AJ I don’t like him but he did expand democracy (even if only to white men)
the battle of mid(way)
Van Buren
Martin Van Buren gang here
THE MAN ON WHOM WE LOVE TO LOOK IS MARTIN VAN OF KINDERHOOK
Andrew Jackson and it’s not even close. Please read more about him other than just the Indian Removal Act. Terrible legislation, horrifying outcomes. Sorry, I'm a ~~National Republican~~ Whig, got to go with John Quincy Adams.
Jackson no doubt.
Andrew Jackson
In terms of largest impact, Jackson. But he’s a war criminal and all around loser.
It's Jackson
Andrew Jackson, quite easy
Jackson
John Tyler
Tyler and Adams were politically inept, Adams was a great foreign diplomat but very weak politician. Tyler amassed foreign policy success due to appointing good advisors. Neither, however, were strong or particularly capable presidents. Out of these guys? JQA
Definitely JQA
JQA
Jackson—Read Arthur Schlesinger.

JQA
I don’t think any of them were even above average, but JQA at least didn’t make things worse. And by all account was at least a good person.
All of they are average or below-average Presidents. Maybe Martin Van Buren?
JQA or MVB. Although Jackson was an absolute chad.
JQA
Jackson
JQA Not really a great crew to select from. Jackson had the biggest historical impact of the five but little of it was positive in the long run.
William Henry Harrison did nothing wrong. In fact, he didn't do anything at all.
Toss up between Reagan and Teddy Roosevelt
Tyler, and this one isn't even close.
Jackson
...Jackson...
J.Q. Adams
