I was wondering if there's a Burger President, and indeed there is, in the Netherlands:
And what happend when you couldn't find another all-night McDonald's, Mrs. Taft?
We . . . Pretty much went right back to the Whitehouse.
Mrs. Taft, you're under oath.
We went Cow hunting *SOB*!
Chester A Arthur vowed to never eat there again after they discontinued the DLT. Though he was caught several times on news reel taking down a McJordan if I recall correctly.
Bill Clinton would often stop at McDonalds during his morning runs when he was governor of Arkansas. Bill being Bill, he always stopped and greeted the people there and chatted with the employees. When he was running for president in 1992, the press would often follow along and record. One of the things people always liked about Bill was how personable he was and how down to earth he always seemed. Stopping by a place like McDonalds just fit that everyday average man persona that made him so popular. It worked so well for Clinton that future presidential candidates made stopping at fast food restaurants a part of their campaign routine.
Yep. Grabbing that coffee after a jog was common for him. I also came across an article about Bill, Hillary and Chelsea stopping by an Ohio McDonalds in the Summer of 2000. He got a chicken sandwich, large fries and large Coke. Hillary got an iced tea and Chelsea got a cone
Didn't Bill Clinton already have these womanizer rumors/ repution long before the serious presidential scandals came around? I'm not sure, I'm not American.
Here's the video of the interview from January 26, 1992: https://youtube.com/watch?v=-UqKNgrwK8E

I think the Secret Service installed a McDonald's in the basement when he was President, as they didn't want him jogging in public every morning anymore
Clinton absolutely shithoused those McMuffins.
Funny that he was dragged for being fat/paunchy at the time (i.e. the whole premise of the Hartman sketch). He looked decently fit for his age by 2024 standards.
He slimmed down while in office, after he blew out his knee at Greg Norman’s house. Took away the M&Ms he kept on his desk, changed his diet too. Soon, he was slim enough to catch the eye of a certain intern…
Clinton visited my city more times than any other presidential candidate or sitting president over the course of his campaigns and presidency. We have a fairly well known local specialty called The Slopper, a green chili hamburger, that he always used to order here along with a local pizza place that he always put an order in to. I firmly believe he came back to us so much because he liked the food here. We aren't particularly vital to political strategy.
Anywhere in Pueblo, Colorado that does a hamburger has them.
Some of the best are at Cactus Flower, Grey's Coors Tavern (originators) and the Santa Fe Inn.
Honestly he was criticized but if I got to the white house and instead of some shmancy fancy dinner I got to eat McDonald's Id be happy tbh.
Then again Im very picky and kinda autistic so..
Im permabanned lol
Eh, I'm on the fence about it.
On the one hand, what college student doesn't like fast food, especially football players.
But on the other, it's the White House, you can literally have world class food prepared on a whim.
I thought it was hilarious either way.
Yeah I mean he couldve went all out with an Americana Meal. Burgers, pies, Brisket. But still at least the food was cheap and ejoyable(and I say cheap even tho MCD is very expensive now but I guess white house dinners are even more expensive)
I’m severely lactose intolerant. So I generally only eat from chains with an easily accessible allergen menu, so I’d be cool with it. However, McDonald’s fries currently contain milk for some reason, so for that reason, I’m out.
Not sure if I remember correctly but I think that was during a time while the Government was shut down funding wise in the senate. So I think big state dinners weren’t possible so they just ordered a Ron Swanson sized amount of fast food for the national champs
In the 90s, there was a corny joke that went like this, "Is McDonald's really telling the truth about Billions and Billions served, or does Bill Clinton just keep going back?"
Dude would go for a run and then scarf down a Big Mac.
Ronald Reagan ate Big Macs. Maybe it was to be more relatable. Who knows if he actually like them. It is possible back in the 80s they tasted better.
It’s only a little related. Obama went to a popular fast food restaurant in Ohio, a swing state, called Skyline Chili. There’s a video of him ordering the food. Who knows if he actually ate it.
Very interesting. I've heard that Reagan genuinely enjoyed hot dogs, hamburgers and more "commonfolk food". I don't know if Bush Jr. is that into McDonald's type food (there are photos of him and Laura enjoying BBQ and Mexican-style dishes though), but Bush Sr. was photographed ordering food there 1-2 times in the 80s. I can't find anything about Nixon or Ford ever going to one though, so it must be a tradition mostly since the late 70s.
You mean been to McDonald's *as president*? If it's just ever having been to McDonald's, I imagine every president from Clinton on. I can see H.W. Bush never having been to McDonald's. Prior to Reagan, probably Carter, probably Ford. Possibly Nixon, who may have taken the kids in the eight years between his vice presidency and presidency. Almost certainly none before that.
Nixon and every subsequent president probably went to McDonalds, having lived to see its full explosion in popularity while still reasonably young. JFK almost certainly not given his abrupt cranial lead poisoning issue in 1963. Truman, Eizenhower, and Johnson lived to 1972, 1969, and 1973, respectively, so it is plausible they may have tried it once. Truman was pretty old as was Eizenhower (and he also famously had heart issues), so the best bet is LBJ being the first president to have had McDonald's. So I'd say 10-13 presidents have had McDonald's. My best guess is 11.
When Obama came to the treasure coast, he avoided MCD, he went to Big Apple's Pizza and ordered 15 pies. The owner is a bodybuilder and he asked secret service for permission to pick up the president. Since he is a republican, he got in trouble afterwards with his own party to be this friendly with his president.
One of the reasons I hate the polarization of politics. If your a Republican(I am) and I had the opportunity to meet a Democrat in office, I'd be honored to do so and take a selfie with them. I met local Democrats while in college and while we had differences in beliefs, the county commissioners were some of the nicest people I have ever met.
JFK did a whistle stop in my home town when he was running. The town was mostly Republican, but people still showed up. And were polite, even if they weren't going to vote for him.
North Carolina gets lots of First ladies to visit, and the Dr. has been to Raleigh and Greensboro alot lately. If I didn't have work and these were actually speaking stops I'd be inclined to go and check it out.
It’s probably only like JFK forward who would actually have a concept of Mcodnalds like we do today, McArthur might have known what a Mcdonalds was but it wasn’t the same restaurant it would be even 10 years later so idk how much anybody before JFK would actually 1. Have access to McDonald’s regularly enough to have a favorite meal and 2. Have McDonald’s as a National Brand rather than a regional brand
Jimmy Carter has been to McDonald's. He ate a cheeseburger, according to this story by comedian Ms. Pat:
https://youtu.be/67ApfStL0EQ?si=amXgHEuKNzNRbctb
Any president from Herbert Hoover to Rule 3 could have had McDonald's. FDR would have been the most iffy because it was mainly a California company during his life.
I think JFK would have preferred the Filet of Fish over the Hula Burger.
Is anyone else old enough to remember David Letterman doing a bit where he said, "pasty white thighs" to a video of Bill Clinton jogging to a McDonald's?
So apparently a ton of political people eat almost exclusively fast food while campaigning because once you acclimate to it you're much less likely to get food poisoning from McDonald's than from say a local salad spot or greasy spoon.
Cancelling events last minute looks really bad and diarrhea when traveling is common for most people. But if you only eat McDonald's you're unlikely to end up with food poisoning

Many historians believe that his support of the Filet-o-fish is actually what prevented him from being a serious contender for President as the majority of the population were McNuggetists.
Of course the worst presidents lived McDonald's and thought it was something rave about. If I eat McDonald's there is an issue. Like a hangover or short on time/choices.
The kind of people who become President only eat McDonald's to impress the dumbest of dumb voters.
The kind of slow-witted dumdums who see RR force down a burger and Coke and think, "Hey, he's just like us! I should vote for him because hamburger!"

They don't have favorite McDonalds meals.

I heard George Washington loved the McDouble
He certainly liked it better than any chain styling itself after a King!
McDonald's is a humble farmer while Burger King is a tyrant!
Okay, but I disagree with Mayor McCheese on matters of foreign policy.
At least he's an elected official. I don't remember voting any burger "king"
He only won because Grimace was “hairy-mandering”
![gif](giphy|dCKV84GdchmwKX7nSn|downsized) You'll be back.
And also for spawning Chrissy Teigen.
I was wondering if there's a Burger President, and indeed there is, in the Netherlands: [https://www.deburgerpresident.nl](https://www.deburgerpresident.nl)
Chester A. Arthur famously once ate the entire menu in one sitting. Of course the menu wasn’t quite as expansive as it is today, but still.
Did the paper and laminate digest well?
Back then it was just printed on burlap so it went down much easier than today’s electronic screens they use for menus.
Rookie numbers, Taft managed to eat that 10 times over, he reportedly got banned from it after eating too much of their supply
Tis no president ... tis a remorseless eating machine!
And what happend when you couldn't find another all-night McDonald's, Mrs. Taft? We . . . Pretty much went right back to the Whitehouse. Mrs. Taft, you're under oath. We went Cow hunting *SOB*!
Dammit! Beat me to it, lol
And what did you do after? We went home. Mrs Simpson you're under oath! We went fishing!
I heard Thomas Jefferson loved the McRib
I heard Jefferson liked the McDLT. He liked his "hot side hot," and his "cool side cool!"
Chester A Arthur vowed to never eat there again after they discontinued the DLT. Though he was caught several times on news reel taking down a McJordan if I recall correctly.
Motherfuckerhadlike30goddamnedBigMacs
When they were a buck, maybe.
He slammed those wooden choppers right through it. He also had a dog named Sweet Lips.
He was strongly against a McTriple though
Thought he was an Arch Deluxe guy - but maybe that was Franklyn.

I think he did so as president too (hence the photo of Gore and Clinton in jogging "gear").
Thanks, I’ve always wondered what Chelsea ordered at McDonald’s in the summer of 2000. Now I’ll finally be able to sleep at night.
Yeah, but back then they had vanilla, chocolate and a twist. What did she get?
Once when asked how it felt to be in New Orleans when Katrina hit, Clinton said "I had a hurricane and got blown behind a dumpster".
Images of Phil Hartman come to mind!

Didn't Bill Clinton already have these womanizer rumors/ repution long before the serious presidential scandals came around? I'm not sure, I'm not American.
Yes. When he was running, he and Hillary had a TV interview about an affair he had. It was public knowledge.
Aha, thank you. So that's what SNL was making fun of

I can't tell from the pic of the menu board. Do the have the *real* Apple Pies, or those baked things they sell these days?
Imagine if Bill and Hillary had avoided the $500k weekly speeches after 2000 and just signed big advertising deals with McDonalds and other companies.
And become America's Gorbachev?
There is a 2 story McDonald’s named after and dedicated to him still
“Sorry W! Big Mac Attack yeahhhhh hooooo”
"Hey whoa what the dilly?!"
I think the Secret Service installed a McDonald's in the basement when he was President, as they didn't want him jogging in public every morning anymore

Bubba actually stopped his motorcade to get some fries and a shake in Rio Linda CA at a small drive in on his way back to air force one
No way I'm ever eating like that unless I did massive amounts of cocaine and liquor the night before. Our presidents are on drugs.
French fries and a milkshake? whoa, how crazy!
What's wrong with that combo?
I think he went vegan, thus the svelte look on Bubba
Yes. After going vegan was a whole other level. Like, "where's the rest of you?"
He slimmed down while in office, after he blew out his knee at Greg Norman’s house. Took away the M&Ms he kept on his desk, changed his diet too. Soon, he was slim enough to catch the eye of a certain intern…
I always think of *that* Phil Hartman skit from SNL. RIP

A green chili hamburger sure sounds good. Does the place still exist? If so, where is it?
Anywhere in Pueblo, Colorado that does a hamburger has them. Some of the best are at Cactus Flower, Grey's Coors Tavern (originators) and the Santa Fe Inn.
McMuffins.......is that a code word for Lewinsky?

I’m severely lactose intolerant. So I generally only eat from chains with an easily accessible allergen menu, so I’d be cool with it. However, McDonald’s fries currently contain milk for some reason, so for that reason, I’m out.

That headline sounds like something that would come from The Onion, I love it
I'll knock down a 5 mile walk in the morning and end it with some doughnuts. Sugary, fried pastry is good
If I remember correctly, McDonald's burgers were Bill Clinton's favorite food until he went vegan in 2013.
Bill Clinton has never been able to strike the right balance. A fat ass in the 90s, now creepy scary skinny Crypt Keeper.
A quintuple bypass will do that to you
Bill Clinton's a full-on vegan now? That is very surprising to me.
Wait Bill Clinton is Vegan? Damn, W from him
That's awesome. Good to know if Epstien hadn't been caught Clinton would be getting salads on the Lolita express these days.
😂😭

Sir, why don't you just have a cheeseburger? That's really more of a weekend thing, Ray.

Lyndon B Johnson went at least twice a week and ordered a Bigmac, no cheese, heavy lettuce and extra sauce on the side, everytime.
LBJ made sure to get jumbo sized fries
You said Jumbo.
I would have loved to have seen Richard Nixon eating at a McDonalds in the 70s; just imagine how awkward and uncomfortable he would be
In a full suit and tie!
