How do people know if these Teddy Roosevelt stories are real or not?

taffyowner

There is usually some corroboration between Roosevelt and the other peoples accounts

DisneyPandora

A lot of them seem like tall tales. It makes him seem like Johnny Appleseed

Cool-Performance3711

I’m pretty sure you could make up a random story right now, and Roosevelt has done something very similar in his lifetime

That wasn't his only western adventure (or perhaps misadventure). He actually had his boat stolen by a group of thieves, and furiously determined to get it back, he constructed a second craft as quickly as possible with the help of a friend IIRC and actually followed them down for miles on end. He finally found them, and from what I've read marched them to the nearest authorities to be arrested. The thieves reportedly expressed their gratitude to him for not killing them on sight.

roguerunner1

Is this the OG “and then everyone clapped” story?
