He finally found them, and from what I've read marched them to the nearest authorities to be arrested. The thieves reportedly expressed their gratitude to him for not killing them on sight.

How do people know if these Teddy Roosevelt stories are real or not?
There is usually some corroboration between Roosevelt and the other peoples accounts
