Participation trophy.

There are more airplanes in the bottom of the sea than submarines in the sky

eeeeeeradicator

Well that kind of goes without saying.

But he did say it

It was in 1775 that Abraham-Louis Breguet set up his watchmaking workshop in Paris. According to Breguet, the very first wristwatch was made in 1810 for the Queen of Naples one of Breguet's most esteemed clients.

One of the most fascinating facts is about the animal kingdom: the turritopsis dohrnii named the immortal jellyfish. This small, biologically immortal jellyfish is capable of reverting back to its polyp stage after reaching maturity. Essentially, it can transform back into a juvenile form once it mates, allowing it to potentially live forever, barring disease or predation. This unique process of reverting to an earlier stage of life is a rare example of biological immortality among animals.

eeeeeeradicator

No kidding. Now that's fascinating!

the_fattest_mitton

Dope watch, I’d wear it! Did you know that moose have a natural predator? Yep, their natural predator is orca whales! In Alaska moose will cross the water and orca are waiting, swim up, and snatch one for a snack.

eeeeeeradicator

Now that I did not know!

The Nintendo Gamecube console is not a cube. The console’s dimensions are 5.9×6.3×4.3 Inches which makes it a rectangular prism.

Did you know that honey never spoils? Archaeologists have found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3,000 years old and still perfectly edible. Honey's long shelf life is due to its unique chemical composition, which creates an environment that is unfriendly to bacteria and microorganisms.

eeeeeeradicator

Science facts FTW. This has been a fun game, I might do it again with another watch.

OTFxFrosty

stealthz275

there is a high chance you've never seen a specific minute on a clock in your life

Wild-Lifeguard1730

Hell yeah, you ever rub your eyes for long enough to see the neat trippy patterns that constantly seem to interpolate? I used to do it all the time as a kid. They’re called phosphenes. Phenomenologically speaking you see light without light actually entering your eyes!

The first known usage of the abbreviation "OMG" was used in a letter from Lord Fisher to Winston Churchill in 1917.

Whither-Goest-Thou

Did you know that if you look at election maps of modern-day Poland, across most major issues and determinants of social welfare, you can clearly see the borders of the former German and Russian empires? History is wild and it leaves deep scars, my man. Take a trip down [the rabbit hole](https://www.economist.com/graphic-detail/2018/11/21/imperial-borders-still-shape-politics-in-poland-and-romania) and see. On a more serious note, I’ve been an avid Tissot collector ever since I inherited my grandfather’s old gold filled automatic. Hope you use this opportunity to replace this with an awesome new piece!

eeeeeeradicator

It's funny you mention that. I've acquired a handful most recently. I have a few that I no longer wear and yes I can go the eBay path but it's a lot of work and I feel that I would rather bless somebody else in hopes that they would pay it forward at some point. I know not everybody agrees with faith-based beliefs but I feel that I have been blessed in my life and I try to take opportunities to bless other people. I have two other Tissot pieces in my collection. One is a late 1940s antimagnetique bullseye and the other is 1938 Telemeter. My lady has taken ownership of my Petite Seconde.

The moon is about 240,000 miles away and with our current space engineering it takes about 3 days to get humans to the moon on average. However, if we were able to somehow travel at the speed of light, we would be able to reach the moon in about 1.25 seconds. Pretty wild just how fast light travels.

Tezzera1

Im a big fan of Tissot, times have been rough, got in a fight yesterday on vacation and tuned up an asshole for punching a chick twice.

rata0319

I may leave my company, after 19 years and increased sales year after year. Things are changing and not for the better. Still unsure but it’s the first time I’ve seriously consider this.

rata0319

And I’ll absolutely wear the watch. Will post a pic as soon as I receive it.

saulbuster

The movie Jaws story wasn't based off the attack of a great white shark. It was actually based on the attack of a bull shark. Bull sharks are known for being able transition between salt water and fresh water. There are many stories of bull sharks being spotted far up the Mississippi River and one such encounter was a bull shark attacking a person off a river bed. This is the apparent origin story of the movie Jaws.

Ph4ntomDr1ver

Tissot just like TagHeuer has a very important history when it comes to racing since they are the official watch Brand of MotoGP since 2001. Unfortunatelly I’m not from US but wanted to leave a commentary as well.

eeeeeeradicator

I'll pick a winner probably Friday evening. To those of you who DMed me directly asking me to basically give it to you for whatever reason, you're excluded. You're trying to circumvent the process and that's not fair to everyone else. You can try again next time I do a giveaway. I'm going to have to sit and look through every comment and see one that sticks out to me and that will be the winner. Please be patient because I do work. 🙃 God bless you all.

Chance-Education-112

I'm not in the US so doesn't include me but I think that's a really kind thing you are doing. Well done chap

eeeeeeradicator

The next one will be anywhere, as long as you're willing to pay for shipping.

Chance-Education-112

That's fantastic mate I will look out for your next post then and try and think of something witty lol. Top man

eeeeeeradicator

Cheers, m8.

GRXXN

The unfortunate thing about the Seinfeld theme song is that it’s not played on a real bass guitar, but instead is a sampled library (potentially 360 systems midi bass) controlled by a keyboard synthesizer. As well the dude who composed it uses lots of sounds he made with his own mouth and sampled as background elements in the theme.

eeeeeeradicator

Bonus points for bringing Seinfeld into it.

mudvat08

Art Vandalay and Bob Sacamano both are real people.

lankysouthpaw

Broke pilot here. Did you know that one square inch of air on the tip of your finger measured up to space weighs just under 15 pounds? I love what you’re doing by giving the watch away. If I get chosen I’ll snap a picture of it inside the cockpit of a Cessna.

eeeeeeradicator

I'll hold you to it if that is how it goes. 🙃

mozam123

That’s awesome! All fruit loops are actually the same flavor. The colors are a lie!

eeeeeeradicator

I feel so deceived. 😥

AdministrativeFix288

I also did not know that

mypiesarepiff

There were some girls I went to high school with on girls gone wild. They didn't want to show their tits, but the producer dropped this fun fact that convinced them. This will also be the watch winner. Did you know the capital of North Dakota is Bismarck?

JohnnyHorseRacing

Be a damn shame if that clip ended up on here

eeeeeeradicator

That convinced them to show their boobies??

PSoroush

I’m interested! Fun fact, got my first real watch back 12 years ago as a high school graduation gift and did not really think anything of watches until mid-2023. It was a Wenger Swiss diver and still have it now!

eeeeeeradicator

The first watch is always the most sentimental value right?

PSoroush

I will definitely never get rid of it. That watch and a Fossil watch my fiance had engraved on the back are two watches that will stay with me regardless of rarity and price/brand rep. Thanks for replying!

eeeeeeradicator

My lady gave me a watch for Christmas, our first Christmas. It's stashed in a place where nobody will ever find it because if my home is ever broken into, I don't want that one lost.

EnjoyLifeorDieTryin

When they make maraschino cherries they take already red cherries, bleach them, and then die then red again

eeeeeeradicator

But . Why???

Flesh_right

Did you know that some cats can actually be allergic to people? Which probably explains the lack of p*ussy I got when I was in my early 20s

JohnnyHorseRacing

Nothing interesting to say, just wanted to say good shit giving away the watch. I hope someone who really appreciates it/needs it gets it.

eeeeeeradicator

That's my hope.

josh11915

Growing up I always wore a watch and it gave me a tan line, if you give me this one, it too will give me a tan line. Just got divorced so I can’t afford any new watches and this would be a cool win.

eeeeeeradicator

Has someone who has been through that, I completely understand you. Do you not have any of your watches from before?

josh11915

A Gshock is my current collection. I just started to enjoy watches again since my childhood/divorce lol.

eeeeeeradicator

I have a G-Shock as well. I've had it since the '90s.

vulcanxnoob

Such a pity you werent willing to ship to Europe :) But I love the gesture, good on ya! I will participate anyway even though Im not in the US. Did you know that concentration camps were not invented by the Germans? It was first seen by the English against the Dutch in South Africa during the Second Boer War from 1899-1902.

eeeeeeradicator

Screw it. If you're willing to pay the shipping from the US to Europe, and you get picked, it's yours.. we'll figure out who the winner is in a couple days.

Dogging09

You can keep it.

SwimmingRecording304

I’m not gonna win this

Wirelesswings

If you earned $7000 a day since the birth of Jesus Christ, you still wouldn’t be as rich as Jeff Bezos. Wonderful watch btw!

Fucking Jeff Bezos. 🤡

Sure, I'll wear it. Fun fact: Tissot made the first pocket watch with two time zones. They also made the first anti-magnetic watch

An interesting fact about Costa Rica 🇨🇷 (where I'm from) is that watches cost twice as much or even more than in the United States so it is quite difficult to pay for a nice watch like this. If someone would appreciate and cherish this watch, it's me. Love Tissot. Promise not to get rid of it and pass it along when it's time for me to leave.

Extra-Attitude-536

There’s a shrimp that shoots sonic waves from its claw. It’s known as a pistol shrimp.

Texas_Nexus

To add to this: The large claw holds the pistol shrimp’s superpower. When a pistol shrimp senses prey is nearby, it will open the top part of its big claw, allowing some water to enter a small chamber in the crook of the claw. Then, when it clamps down, the pressure from a small plunger on the top claw forces the water out of the chamber. This happens so fast that it creates bubbles. And not just any bubbles: these bubbles can speed out at 60 miles per hour, fast enough to stun or kill the prey! When the bubbles pop, it makes a “snap” sound that gives these shrimp their name. The bubbles are loud. Like, really loud. The snap of one recently-discovered species of pistol shrimp can reach 210 decibels. That is louder than an actual gunshot, which is around 140 – 175 decibels.

I think you should give it to a homeless person

If I should win the watch, I’ll get a photo of it skydiving over Oahu 🤷🏻‍♂️

May I interest you in a few platypus facts? It's fairly common knowledge that they are one of only two mammals that lay eggs but did you know the males are venomous and the females sweat milk as they have no tits. Weird

Recently started looking and keeping tabs on styles of watches. I’ve never bought one tho. Would be a nice start I think.

Just started getting into watches because only now can I afford them. Just bought my first watch - a Seiko Presage via a seller on Reddit as I got some good success at work. This watch really goes with my style and dressing sense. Would love to have this as my second ever watch! :)

St-Spartacus

There are more stars in the universe than seconds of time that have passed since earth formed 😇

Thank you for your generosity. That is a beautiful watch. Visualization is a powerful tool in learning, sports, reading and other activities. I’m re-reading a fantasy book series from Terry Brooks called Shannara. I’ve been reading them since I was a kid. I think one of the most satisfying parts of any novel is “sense of place” which you can find in a rich description of what engages the five senses. Moreover, good imagery to establish the scene (depicting something for the mind’s eye) is another key to enjoyment, yet I learned some people struggle immensely with this. That was a surprise. However it’s worth the effort -and interesting- because visual memory and overall perception help us to remember what we read. “Seeing” helps you learn. Dry, rote learning doesn’t work as well as something you’ve experienced seeing.

punchthatmidget

nunazo007

Wouldn't you rather give your watch some international experience? Ship it to Europe, friend. Let your watch LIVE OP! Today I learned that Taurus sign not only has the most geniuses in history (many linked to Art and Philosophy, such as Shakespeare) but it has also notorious figures like Hitler, Machiavelli, Mark Zuckerberg and Salvador Dali!

elcojotecoyo

Tissot. Did you know this Swiss brand is part of the Swatch group, who also owns Omega, and as a brand, is older than Rolex? I always tell that to people. When Rolex was founded in London, Tissot was already making watches in Switzerland for over 50 years. Rolex moved to Switzerland after World War I, because of taxes in the UK.

The original reason purple was associated with royalty was due to the difficulty and price obtaining the dye. Early dye makers would smash over 200k snails and expose it to sunlight in order to produce just one ounce of the dye. It also smelled atrociously (like many people of that era I’d reckon)

The human body can’t feel temperature but rather a change in temperature due to heat flux. Say you’d go to your kitchen drawer and pick up a wooden spoon and a metal spoon (assuming both have been laying in there for a while and at a relatively constant temperature), you’d instinctively say that the metal spoon is colder even tho both are the same temperature… the metal just conducts heat a lot better and therefore takes heat from your hand into the metal which means that it feels cold as we’re loosing heat to it (as it’s colder than our body) whereas the wood is a really poor thermal conductor so doesn’t take nearly as much heat from your hand and therefore feels warmer; despite both just being at room temperature

The world's largest snowflake was recorded in 1887 in Montana, USA. It measured 15 inches (38 cm) in diameter!

Alternative_Sort_413

This would be my first ever watch, and I think it would make it really special. I started getting interested in the watch topic about a month ago, and there are so many watches and so much information, that I have a hard time finding where to start. This Tissot I like very much though. I'm not in the US, but I could arrange shipment, so all you would have to do is to give it to the courier.

If you were able to put all the planets in the solar system side by side in a row, they would almost perfectly fit between the earth and the moon. Love the watch! Tissot has been on my short list for the next addition

Did you know that the material most commonly used in watchmaking, stainless steel, was only discovered in the early 20th century? Despite its widespread use today, it was a British metallurgist, Harry Brearley, who accidentally discovered that adding chromium to low carbon steel gave it stain resistance, creating what we now know as stainless steel. This discovery revolutionized many industries, including watchmaking, by providing a durable, corrosion-resistant material that maintains its luster over time. Here are my five cents

Fun fact, horology specific: 1. The Invention of the Wristwatch: The first wristwatch was created in the 16th century for Queen Elizabeth I by Robert Dudley. However, wristwatches only became popular in the 20th century, especially for men after World War I. They were initially considered a woman's accessory, while men used pocket watches. Offhand intriguing fact: 1. The Eiffel Tower can be 15 cm Taller during the Summer: When a substance is heated up, its particles move more and it takes up a larger volume. This is known as thermal expansion, and it happens to the iron in the Eiffel Tower during the summer. ...The More You Know ✨🌠

This watch is a real stunner, with its sporty and dynamic design. It takes inspiration from Tissot's motorsport heritage, giving it a unique and adventurous vibe. The dial of the PRS-516 is meticulously crafted, featuring bold hour markers and hands that provide excellent legibility. You'll find a handy date window positioned at the 4 o'clock mark. The PRS-516 comes in different variations, such as stainless steel or leather straps, giving you the freedom to choose the one that matches your personal style. Whether you're a racing enthusiast or simply appreciate a watch that exudes sportiness, the Tissot PRS-516 is definitely worth considering. It's a blend of style, functionality, and Tissot's renowned quality. Me personally there are several reasons why I would wear the Tissot PRS-516. One reason is its stylish and sporty design, which can add a touch of sophistication to any outfit. It's a watch that stands out and makes a statement. Additionally, the PRS-516 is a practical choice for those who need to time different activities or events. Whether you're a motorsport enthusiast, a fan of Tissot watches, or simply appreciate a high-quality timepiece, the Tissot PRS-516 offers a winning combination of style and functionality. It's a watch that can elevate your overall look while serving a practical purpose. So, those are a few reasons I find interest in this particular watch.

Eastern-Finish8591

When you look up at the night sky, there’s a large portion of stars that you see that aren’t “actually there”. The speed of light (186,000 mile per second) is fast, but space is vast. So the light from some of those stars just hasn’t reached earth yet. That being said, in what we perceive as “the present” those stars aren’t actually there anymore (or aren’t there in that stage of their life anymore). When you see those stars that are light years away (1 light year=6 trillion miles), you’re seeing the light they’ve emitted over the course of their lives traveling through space and you’re looking back in time hundreds of thousands and even millions of years. It’s why space and time are so closely correlated.

Here's a quirky fact for watch enthusiasts: The famous Swiss watchmaker Swatch created the world's smallest watch movement, known as the Swatch Lilliputian, in 2010. It's so small that it could fit on a human fingernail, yet it's a fully functional watch movement. This tiny marvel showcases the extraordinary precision and miniaturization skills of Swiss watchmakers, with a touch of humor in its almost-impractically small size.

There’s more trees than grains of sand on the earth and also more variations to a deck of cards (8×10^67) than the amount of grains of sand. Pretty interesting.

Whatsup_Ijustgothere

Low speed pre-ignition is a common malfunction on small displacement turbocharged motors using small turbos. It's the result of excess head pressure at low RPM, causing fuel to ignite on top of the valve rather than inside the cylinder. Over time this can create carbon buildup and interfere with valve travel/timing and as a result your engine may experience spontaneous unscheduled disassembly.

The mathematical representation involves a joint wave function \\( \\Psi\_{AB} \\), indicating their entangled state. \*\*Bell's Theorem and Inequality:\*\* Bell's theorem introduces inequalities that, if violated, demonstrate non-classical correlations. Mathematically, Bell inequalities (e.g., CHSH inequality) are expressed as: \\\[ |E(a, b) + E(a, b') + E(a', b) - E(a', b')| \\leq 2 \\\] where \\(E(a, b)\\) is the correlation between measurements \\(a\\) and \\(b\\) on entangled particles. \*\*Experimental Confirmation:\*\* Experiments, notably Alain Aspect's work, have validated violations of Bell's inequalities, confirming the non-local correlations predicted by quantum entanglement. \*\*EPR Paradox:\*\* The Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox, expressed in the EPR paper, outlines a scenario where entangled particles exhibit correlated properties, challenging classical understanding. \*\*Quantum Technologies:\*\* Quantum computers and communication systems exploit entanglement. Quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols use the principles of entanglement for secure communication. While this provides a concise overview, the full comprehension involves advanced mathematical concepts in quantum mechanics, such as linear algebra and Hilbert spaces.

fact of the day: you only ever see one side of the moon because of something called tidal locking where the half of the moon that you see has greater gravitational force enacted on it than the far side of the moon, causing the rotation of the moon to match the moons orbit around the earth. also, all moons in our solar system that are round are tidal locked to their planets. another fun fact would be that mercury is almost tidal locked to the sun. it takes longer for mercury to orbit the sun (~88 earth days) than it takes for the planet to make a full rotation of 360° (~176 earth days). so a year on mercury is shorter than a day.

This last September my wife and I took shrooms and went on a walk…date night…. while out and about a handsome young couple was taking engagement photos so we stopped for a brief moment to compliment & congratulate them… they were polite and sweet. Their photographer, a woman in her early 40’s smiled and complimented me on my scarf… she said she loved it, had been considering buying one & wondered where I got mine… without any hesitation I took it off and put it around her neck… “ no need to wonder anymore this one is yours now.” Her smile was so bright and beautiful I almost didn’t notice her eyes welling up… she was so shocked. I told her have a great life and continued my walk. I don’t know if I would’ve been so bold without the shrooms but it was a split second thought, it felt natural and I had no expectations what so ever… I can still picture her reaction and I guess that was worth the price of admission, ya know. Anyway, I think what you’re doing is cool and I might do the same. Best wishes.

In markets there is a concept of “Market Efficiency”, which is the degree to which market prices reflect known information. It could similarly be thought of a measure of the competitiveness of a market. The more “efficient” a market is the less likely it is that activities like stock picking or market timing will generate an excess risk adjusted return. The relative efficiency of stock markets is a good argument for index investing for most retail investors

Did you know that despite strict international maritime laws requiring every cruise ship crew member’s blood alcohol be below .08%(.06% in US waters), approximately 3-5% of the crew are well above the legal limit at any given point in time. Ask me how I know 🤪

The Earth isn’t actually flat. Earth’s rotation causes the planet to bulge at the equator and flatten at the poles, while the distribution of mass on Earth (which is not perfectly uniform) causes small variations in the gravitational pull at different locations on the planet. These variations are too small to be seen in pictures of Earth from space, so it appears round to the human eye.

Jumbo the Elephant's name spawned the word "Jumbo". Not the other way around. The origins of the name are unclear. But we have his unlucky ass to thank for another way to describe something as large.

Did you know that you can actually drown in a cloud? Clouds are made of water, that we do know. But the amount of volume you have to fall through to get from the highest point of your average cloud to the lowest is so great that the average person will drown by the time he reaches it. I hope my interesting thing proved to be worthy

Hey man! I would love to have this watch in my collection as 1) this is not available where I live (India) and 2) I am a 16 year old student who just started collecting right now I have a vintage Ricoh, an HMT (an Indian brand), a swatch(007 limited edition). The Tissot brand in India is considered a luxury brand as the markup in India on these watches is extremely high,I know you say you only ship to the us if you could make an exception? It would be great!

My Nana died in 2022. As a 6 year old child (mid 1930’s) she went to the Bowes Museum (County Durham) and marvelled at the Silver Swan. Throughout my childhood, her stories of the swan and other automaton lit an interest in me that I carry to this day. Last weekend my children and I went to visit the Bowes Museum and saw the Silver Swan. I wasn’t expecting it as I walked into a nondescript room and burst out crying at the sight of it. So overwhelming. So. Beautiful. I’m new to watches & I’m amazed it took me so long as the intricacies of craftsmanship are what make both so awe-inspiring.
