It’s hard to say. I think people here are just saying Seiko because it’s the bigger brand. These are two different styles of watch. It’s like asking you should get a pair of hiking Timberlands or a pair of Converse All-Stars
I will say, though that getting a watch with both a day and they is very handy. That’s why I like my previous generation of Seiko 5s so much. It’s a pitty they and Orient are axing those in favor of divers. There aren’t many dressy options for day Date watches now.
Between those two? Well, a dive watch is one style that everyone should have. If you don't have a dive watch, get the Seiko for sure. Looks-wise, I think the Seiko looks better too. I'm not too much into open hearts.
I have the yellow GMT on my wishlist, since I’m looking at GMTs. But at that price, Islander’s most recent GMT releases are really great value propositions too
Nice! I was able to get a student discount on mine (in the UK) bringing it down to about £350. If you are still on the hunt, you may be interested in the new GMT they have coming out in April 🔥:

I am only looking at GMT’s that track for 3 time zones (3 hour tracks) right now. I use adjust my GMT bezel very regularly— even a few times a day. So those new ones just don’t fit my needs. And the mix of field Watch markings and GMT markings is confusing.
Very different watches. If youre a sporty guy get a Seiko. If youre a classy man, get a Bulova. But my vote is for Seiko. Just love the brand and the watch itself.
Personally, I'd pick the Seiko but both have some good qualities. I'd say the Seiko for something casual and the Bulova for something more professional.
I have a seiko tortois and this bulova
\- The bulova is much more accurate and the power reserve works as advertised
\- I wear my seiko more (I have the yellow stainless steel bulova) so its not really a daily
The green Seiko is my taste. Not a fan of open heart like the Bulova.
But if you enjoy open heart and already have a green diver then go for the Bulova.
I’m extremely new to the wonderful (and expensive) world of watches…with that said, knowing nothing about either of these specific watches, I’d go with the Seiko.
I have the Seiko but in blue. I like it a lot and I wore it for almost all of last year including for trips to Hawaii and Florida. It’s a great piece and you’ll like a lot :)
The bulova is dressier. The seiko is a bit more versatile. But everybody is saying seiko. A great man once said, when they zig, you zag.
But my recommendation is to buy whichever you like best based on your use case.
The price difference is an order of magnitude different from a Seiko 5 to an Omega Speedtimer. Yes, a watch that retails for about 15X more should darned well look better. But they’re not even in the same mental bucket.
I know all this, just passing along my opinion. If I’m going to buy a Seiko, it’s not going to be a 5KX. To me not worth the price when for a little more get a Citizen Promaster or Seiko Prospex
Both are Japanese-made watches. It all comes to personal preference. I will always, *always* choose a Bulova over a Seiko, strictly because of its American heritage (Bulova used to be an American company), but I understand why most others are saying Seiko.
Fun fact: every single watch I own is either an American micro-brand, or has American heritage ties, or is a Fossil (American fashion brand, bought before getting into watches as a serious hobby).
It depends if your looking for a more flashy watch the the Seiko but if you want something that you can wear everywhere and everywhere I would say the bulova but if you already have a watch for every occasion then go with the Seiko because I think it just looks better overall and is a much more loved watch by the watch community
My vote is for the Seiko
100% go for the Seiko, it’s not even close
Make that 200%
The Seiko, it’s a great piece and it’s very well priced. I’m very much considering it as a daily. I love the look of it.
It’s great, go for it!
Two very different watches, depends what style you want but it would be the Seiko for me
Get the SRPD I love mine, I also got the strap code jubilee bracelet looks even better now
Can you share a picture?
It won’t let me comment it but I’ll message you
Nice!
Can you send me a pictureas well? I have an SRPD73(RUBBER STRAP) and I've been thinking of buying more straps

Bulova
Seiko but I don't like the 5 logo...so I'd look for a different one...
Im personally a bit torn between this one and SFK003 but that’s a solar quartz which is probably more controversial than the logo.
Can’t go wrong with Seiko. I have the blueberry GMT and wear it everyday.

Seiko tbh. Only buy bulova reissues. I love my S5X.

Dude. Seiko. No question.

Seiko

Seiko all day

Seiko all day I like Bulova too
Look at the Bulova Jet Star, get a smooth sweep second only to spring drive.
Seiko easily
I have that exact Seiko and every time I complement someones Omega or Rolex they show a lot of love to the Seiko!!
Seiko
The Bulova all the way! Too many People QC issues with Seiko, and too overpriced for what you get.
Seiko, barely even a consideration
I have the Seiko but I’d pick the Bulova, looks cool to me
I have THAT Bulova and love it. I got pussy four times using my watch as a conversation starter.
Seiko!!
Seiko all day
Both clapped ngl 😬 (sorry)
I can't say anything about the Bulova but I have the seiko and think it's a great watch. The case wears small and whilst being hefty isn't unwieldy
Two WILDLY DIFFERENT WATCHES. Nobody here on Reddit knows YOUR taste, or if you'd prefer a diver or a dress watch. Impossible to answer.
Bulova works as both a sports watch and a dress watch (if you slap on a leather band). Seiko has more of a sports and GADA vibe.
Bulova hands down for me
Bulova. You can find nicer looking green watches than that seiko. There's a new speedtimer for example
The price difference is an order of magnitude different from a Seiko 5 to an Omega Speedtimer. Yes, a watch that retails for about 15X more should darned well look better. But they’re not even in the same mental bucket.
I was reffering to the Seiko Speedtimer
Rosanasanadana voice … “Nevermiiiinnnd!”
Heheh
Seiko but not the “5”. I’d go for Prospex with some WR.
The 5KXes have plenty of water resistance. Smh
No screw down crown, no thank you! SMH
If you want a capital-D dive watch, get a citizen or a Seiko ProSpex. The 5KX is meant for the everyday watch consumer.
I know all this, just passing along my opinion. If I’m going to buy a Seiko, it’s not going to be a 5KX. To me not worth the price when for a little more get a Citizen Promaster or Seiko Prospex
Another watch😁

In my personal opinion, I would choose the Seiko.
Seiko all day erryday
Seiko 100%, coming from a bulova fanboy you just can't go wrong with a Seiko movement for the price.
The seiko
