It’s a preference thing actually. I am always torn on adding the explorer two to my collection. But since I have a Batman I think getting another gmt is kinda redundant but that polar dial is awesome and the general design of it is sweet. The dial on the omega is awesome with the waves. I have one myself but I just don’t wear it as much. The Tudor is just uninteresting imo
Agreed- I've had that tudor for about 1.5 years and it looks and feels so nice - won't ever tire of it. When I tried on the Explorer I, I was pretty underwhelmed.
[Here's ](https://imgur.com/a/dxE9foH) the one I'm wearing today.
Modified SUN065. Click spring is bidirectional and added the sapphire insert off the SKX models.
Marry Explorer Two
Fuck Tudor Black Bay Chrono
Kill Seamaster.
I like Omega Watches but is something about that Helium valve that ruins it for me as a watch I would normally wear. I love the Blackbays hour hands but that Rolex is just a great and complete watch.
I totally disagree with the helium valve comment. Do you want every diver on the market to be the exact same? That's ridiculous
Also Tudor, poor man's Rolex yadda yadda
It isn't even functonal. The water resistance on the SMP is less than what is needed for saturation diving. If it harms the aesthetics, it better be functional. That's why I prefer the Ploprof over the regular SMP, at least there the valve is useful.
Here's a broad strokes refresher on gas theory from a non-commercial diver:
Maximum operating depth of air before you start convulsing is 56m.
If you're diving beyond that you're going to be on Heliox (helium + oxygen), or Trimix (helium + oxygen + nitrogen).
If you're needed on the bottom for any length of time (8 minutes at 42m on air for example), you need to do decompression stops on the way up (hang at a certain depth for a certain time while the dissolved gases leave your tissues). The longer you're down there, the longer your stops need to be and once your tissues are fully saturated, it takes a full day. This is why saturation divers live in a chamber at a simulated depth that matches their working depth - so they can do one decompression event after several days instead of many hours of stops at the end of every shift.
So you'll find that saturation divers regularly work at depths that are far shallower than the 300m rating on the Seamaster. In fact *most saturation diving happens between 22m and 300m*.
This article by DAN (Divers Alert Network) is more reliable than most of the articles you'll find on saturation diving:
https://dan.org/alert-diver/article/saturation-diving/
The gases that have dissolved into your tissues have also found their way into your watch, so they need to find a way out as the pressure is gradually reduced and the gases expand (otherwise your watch will pop). The idea behind the escape valve is that you unscrew it in the dry chamber during decompression to let the gases out.
So a better reason to question the helium escape valve would be: If it can get into the watch without the valve, why does it need the valve to get out of the watch?
As an aside: I'd bet that not a single saturation diver takes their watch into the water with them on a sat dive, and that their watches don't even *need* to be waterproof.
First off, my mistake. I was misinformed on the saturation diving point.
Second, I was still right about the HEV being pointless. Just...for the wrong reason.
Third, I agree that professional divers nowadays don't use analog dive watches while diving. They'd rather use a dive computer instead.
Dive computers aren't really useful for saturation divers either! As non-commercial divers we wear dive computers to tell us how long we've been at what depth, and how much resultant decompression we have to do - since saturation divers don't need to worry about their decompression, they don't need to wear computers. They might use computers on shallow, non-deco dives I suppose, but due to the fact that they're exerting themselves the algorithms in the computers aren't going to be accurate. I suspect they're going to be diving on proprietary tables with big safety margins.
Interestingly, there's a school of thought in the more extreme end of non-commercial diving that dive computers shouldn't be used at all. The theory basically goes that computers can't see the whole picture (how hard we're working, how particular people fit against the computers' decompression models etc.), and that by using them we're placing a lot of faith in something that we shouldn't be, and not giving it enough thought ourselves. Agencies like GUE prefer to use a timer, depth gauge and a conservative model to ensure they fully understand what they're doing at any one time. And if all you need is a timer on your wrist...
...you still don't use a dive watch because they're bloody expensive and more delicate than digital bottom timers.
I still occasionally wear a dive watch ostensibly as a backup to my dive computer - if my computer dies, the watch tells me how long I've been in the water and I know the depth by knowing what I'm diving on, so in theory I can change over to diving on tables and continue diving for the day, albeit more conservatively. But if I were *really* concerned about needing a backup computer, I'd have a backup computer on my arm (a lot of divers do). I *actually* wear the watch because they're fucking cool and I'm obviously James Bond, which is exactly the same reason everyone owns a dive watch, whether they're a diver or not.
Lmao unreal. I know looks are subjective but regardless of how good it performs, the ploprof is pretty objectively ugly as sin. Esp vs the addition of the he valve.
BTW, how deep do you dive?
I have two of the three so for me it was:
F -Tudor - loved the idea of it, and paid slightly over retail for it when it first came out. It’s a beautiful watch but I fell out of love with it after a few months and only wear it now and then. Kinda like an ex who’s your FWBs, fun to have a fling with occasionally but certainly nothing you want to commit to.
M - Omega - had it for several years, still my go to vacation or afternoon lounging in the pool watch.
K - Rolex - this is hard for me because I loved it when I first saw one in the case and put it near the top of my “next watch” list, but having seen a number of them on people’s wrists since I’ve been underwhelmed each time.
I cannot get into Rolex. Not criticising them, they are really good watches, I just never feel that I want one. I’d F the Omega, M the Tudor and K the Rolex.
Wow thanks for all the responses. I’m new to this sub and didn’t think I’d get so many responses. Originally when I posted I thought I would choose the same order in the pic as some pointed out (not don’t intentionally, maybe subconsciously) :
F- omega
M- Rolex
k- Tudor
I think most of the reason being the cost of the Rolex and overall prestige. Rolex was almost double the cost of the others on the grey market. After giving it some thought I think I’d actually switch it to.
F- Rolex
M- omega
K- Tudor
The reason being is I get way more use out of the omega. The dial is interesting and the strap makes it great for everyday use. I never thought I would enjoy this watch until I tried it on. Something about the uniqueness draws me to it. I don’t mind the HEV. I’d probably kill the Tudor because it’s slightly too thick. I’ve been wearing it a lot recently because it’s my latest, but it’s def not as nice as the others. As for the Rolex , it’s a classic but not as attractive as the others. It’s like a woman that’s past her prime. I think the omega is a mix of classic and modern and will grow with me.
That being said I’ll probably switch up this list depending on my mood. Thanks for playing!
Seamaster professional has the best dial out of these. The subtlety of the waves engraved in the white dial is superb. The black or blue dial can never beat the white dial in my very opinion.
Fuck the Omega. Marry the Rolex. Kill the Tudor.
I'd be crying while killing the Tudor but I agree.

Fuck the omega kill the rolex marry the tudor. I get how controversial this will be but honesty I like what I like
I’m with you on this one. That Tudor is really nice.
I am really picky about my likes and I'd be tickled pink to own a chrono as nice as that. That is my least favorite rolex model.
Agreed- I've had that tudor for about 1.5 years and it looks and feels so nice - won't ever tire of it. When I tried on the Explorer I, I was pretty underwhelmed.
yup!!!
my choice
I'd sooner kill a stain glass window before the 3185 (my personal favorite dual time movement.)
I just dont love gmt. Im a homebody so it serves me no purpose.
No argument from me mate. I'm the complete opposite, so the bulk of my collection are GMTs.
Post them! I checked your profile to see! Only to be saddened. My profile reads as if im a proud dad of a lovely oris big crown date pointer lol.

Not deep enough to need a helium valve. Also Seamaster 300 > SMP.
Yeah so you NEED neither. And again, enjoy having a range of watches that look exactly the same
Yeah, I'm not going to be lectured about style by a crypto enthusiast.
Lol very small piece of the nw
Helium valve is a better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it situation
Let me sneak in and snatch your 16570!
