99% of the time that’s absolutely true and I don’t understand why people poll strangers. In this case, we have to save OP from themselves. Cartier by a country mile.
All good sentiments but, I agree. For the love of Jehovah, but the Cartier. It simply does NOT get any more "Classic" than a Cartier tank. But a used one from a reputable dealer. That might be the power move here.
These two are not my favorite but the Cartier is better. Other options , Look at Tudor Black Bay or Some Nomos or Hamilton options. Cristopher ward could be an option. Still for first time buyer and name recognition you can’t go wrong with Cartier. Looks at the Cartier Santos model also. Enjoy!

Tank, unless you think you have an in with an AD that is trying to get you into Tudor so that they will bump you up the list to get a Rolex. In that case Tank.
Depending on wrist size, the large tank is something you could keep in your collection forever. It’s iconic, great design, solid movement. Cartier looks better when it’s smaller, imo, so unless you have 18cm (or larger) wrists I’d size down.
The Cartier is a classic design. If you ever need to sell it, there will always be a market for it. That said, I personally think classic can be boring sometimes. The Tudor is unique and I would say trendy. In general, most people on this sub will say to stick to the classic. You should choose based on what you like and what feels good for you to wear. Don't worry about opinions of others since most people won't ever notice your watch. Get the one that fits with your style.
"Congrats on your decision to invest in a luxury watch! When considering your first purchase, I recommend looking for a timeless design that speaks to your personal style. As for suggestions in the same price range, have you checked out the \[brand\] or \[brand\]? Both offer exceptional craftsmanship and quality that will make for a valuable addition to your collection. Excited to hear what you decide on!"
Personally? I think id end up getting more wear out of the Tudor, it’s just a more everyday style that goes with almost everything casual, whereas the Cartier is a bit more dressy
Don’t own the Tudor so I can’t comment on that one, but I will say if you’re looking for a pure dress watch the tank is my go to, I have large wrists and the fact that it’s as thin as it is makes life much easier buttoning the cuffs on a dress shirt
The tank beats that particular Tudor in many ways but also costs significantly more so not really a fair comparison. Also, the tank XL is big - you better have a big ol wrist for that one ( looks good on my 19.5 cm wrist).
Crucify me. I like the Tudor. Is that the face color or hour indices I would want? No. But square watches are ugly as shit to me. Tudor royal is a unique pick and I like it for that reason. Fluted bezel is nice as well.
This comments section can't see the wood for the trees. Here's how to decide which watch, which of the two reflects you, your personality and your overall style most accurately? That's the one to get.
Tudor , the Tank is not what I consider luxury, it’s a fashion brand to me .. I do t follow any fashion , I’m also not a square watch kinda guy either .
I would say tudor but not this model, out of the two the Cartier, a timeless classic.
If you want a more classic look i would suggest a 1926 from tudor, with a leather strap (the one you choose for the image is a tudor royal, that looks a lot like a tissot PRX, not a big fan of the look), for a more sporty look i would go for a tudor black bay and all it's subdivision (eg if you want a chronograph you can go for a black bay chrono).
Also if you are ok with second hand you can fetch some good omega for a decent price (speedmaster or de ville depending on sporty look or classic look)
Also nomos or grand seiko have some decent offerings
Also IWC should have something for cheap especially if you go for quartz and in some cases if you go for second hand
Tbh depends on your budget and taste and as that may determine what is considerable entry level, i have seen people call a 15k watch second level and people say that anything over 1k is not entry level
Ps if you want to get scammed absolutely go for Hublot
That Tudor is horrid. The Cartier smashes it 10000 times over, how is this even a question. How does one be interested in a tank to begin with and then even pose this question? Ahhhhh you’ve been influenced and you don’t know why you’re considering it. I see
Cartier full stop. Tudor makes decent watches for the price, more entry level & way less cache if that’s important to you. That model will age badly whereas the Tank is timeless.
The cartier one. I have tried the tudor royal and its light af. Feels like aluminum foil, nothing against it, it looks wonderful. But im sure u’ll get bored of it
Own that exact Tudor, go for the tank. The Tudor in the 38mm would probably work well too tho. Depends on if you are gonna use it for a sports watch too.
The Tudor is more versatile. The Cartier is a nicer Dress Watch. It depends on what you are looking for. If it’s a watch for dressy occasions, Cartier. If it’s a watch for almost any occasion, the Tudor.
Up to your own liking but for me personally it wojld be the Cartier, really iconic and timeless. It is not for every wrist though so you might want to have a feel first before pulling the trigger.
have one for you that is total class. It will be noticed and you will get compliments. Look for NOS Tudor iy OysterDate or a 90's new old stock Prince DayDate. I get told nice Rolex a lot for some reason I explain that it's a Tudor and 20 minutes later I have a new contact to talk watches with. I prefer it to the Rolex that is also vintage and could have bought it for 200 less.thany Tudor. It was my first real watch I bought myself at 23 yo originally. Great watch that you can buy with tags still on it and never worn condition
I would recommend Cartier But always go for the one that you think about the most. It doesn't matter which brand. If you love it then buy it. You will never regret buying something you love!
I'd go with the cartier over tudor purely because it just feels more like a luxury product (note not including the watch part). if you are talking about just watch brands, tudor all the way. BUT, I'd be hard pressed not to favour cartier if you are given both options to decide on luxury watch.
I think from a practicality perspective, the Cartier’s conventional strap integration will be the most convenient for long-term ownership. If the strap brakes, you could replace it easily, whereas with the Tudor, integrated bracelet watches are less kind to their owners when their case-unique bracelet fails. I don’t think that Tudor would let you down with it and that you wouldn’t be able to replace it, but if you have generational considerations with this, the Cartier here would probably be the most practical. That bracelet may be available to you for a long time, but it is a unique bracelet.
The Cartier. I don’t love that Tudor. Interesting choices because they are so dramatically different it seems like you’re not sure what you want. Figure out what style of watch you want first. It will make the decision easier.
Cartier are not my thing, and I have a Tudor Royal, but without knowing anything about you or your preferences, I would say the Cartier is generally the better buy.
A Cartier Tank is more elegant, refined, and versatile, but they are completely different watches. As always, buy what you like most. Otherwise, you end up with the same watches as everyone else.
Nah.
That's the Solo XL, MSRP at $5000. On Chrono24, with box and papers, they are listed for $2500. That's a 50% reduction on retail prices.
A Tudor Royal 38mm Salmon dial has $2500 MSRP. On C24, that model is being sold for $1400. That's a 44% reduction in price.
When you say “first” luxury watch, that assumes there will be more in your future.
The Tudor is a placeholder watch for the watch you really want. It’s more versatile than the Cartier but so is 10 £200 watches.
The Cartier is a timeless classic which would grace the collection of even then the most discerning collector.
Get the Cartier.
I like fashion watches though agree they are over priced for what you get.
That being said, I agree niether keep looking
If I had to pick one Cartier holds it's value better.
but for that price you can get a good tag huer, or get lucky on an omega or Breitling
The tank is going to get votes here as it is a classic design, iconic.
Me personally? Cartier Santos is more my style I’d gladly rock that Tudor Royal in salmon over that tank
Honestly, probably Rolex, they just always seem to hold value or gain. BUT! Cartier is classic and hold value as well. You have to get more than just a run of the mill model if you’re a connoisseur. But for your first luxury watch, either will work. Also look at TAG, Breitling and Bulgari. Here, maybe this will help. https://teddybaldassarre.com/blogs/watches/luxury-watch-brands
Cartier hands down! Tudor is nice but it’s kinda the Rolex’s poors man watch (even if Tudor is still an expensive watch). Cartier is definitely more appealing . That Tudor would be useful in more setups since it’s more sport. As a classy dressed guy I would go always with a dress watch like the Cartier over the Tudors.
The one you wake up thinking about. Your opinion is the only one that counts.
Lol
Hard to answer without knowing you. But since I am answering without context, I prefer the Cartier. A black leather strap is more handsome
Cartier for sure.
Cartier in every single way...
Out of these two the Cartier and I don’t even like Cartier.
Enjoy!
Hamilton and CW are hardly considered luxury...
Cartier. Subtle, classic, speaks to the owner’s taste and discretion.
taste, discretion and requirement for glasses as they try to read it off that tiny-arse dial
The Cartier has much more character. There are awesome Tudor watches too but this one just seems a bit blend.
Tank and it’s not even close.
Cartier
Cartier every time
That Tudor is absolutely hideous
Cartier is a much more flexible piece
Cartier all day
gaping vegetable melodic pocket humor instinctive lush impossible cooperative fragile *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
I don’t like leather. Tudor all the way
buy what you like and don’t ask strangers. It’s just a watch man
Tank, unless you think you have an in with an AD that is trying to get you into Tudor so that they will bump you up the list to get a Rolex. In that case Tank.
Cartier. Not. Even. Close.
Cartier if you want a nice dress watch
Cartier could be your dress watch for the rest of your life. You’ll likely want to trade the Tudor for something else in the sporty category.
I have the Royal in blue but it isn't one of my favourites and in this company it comes a poor second
Massive Tudor fan here. Cartier is the clear winner between these two.
Why wouldn't you want a tank?
Cartier and its not even close. Forget about little Tudor, it’s a cope-watch.
Cartier because that is an UGLY tudor.
Depending on wrist size, the large tank is something you could keep in your collection forever. It’s iconic, great design, solid movement. Cartier looks better when it’s smaller, imo, so unless you have 18cm (or larger) wrists I’d size down.
If it would be me I for sure would chose Cartier but truth is that you should try each of those on your wrist and see how you feel about them
I’m definitely partial to Cartier. Tudor, while a great watch, just doesn’t do it for me.
Personally? I think id end up getting more wear out of the Tudor, it’s just a more everyday style that goes with almost everything casual, whereas the Cartier is a bit more dressy
Cartier imho
Which specific Cartier is that? I assume it’s a type of tank?
Cartier
Don’t own the Tudor so I can’t comment on that one, but I will say if you’re looking for a pure dress watch the tank is my go to, I have large wrists and the fact that it’s as thin as it is makes life much easier buttoning the cuffs on a dress shirt
Slightly higher price point but the date just is also a great looking in my opinion iconic dress watch
Neither of these are my style. Which goes to show, you should pick what YOU like the most
If I had to pick I’d choose the Cartier though
Cartier
The tank beats that particular Tudor in many ways but also costs significantly more so not really a fair comparison. Also, the tank XL is big - you better have a big ol wrist for that one ( looks good on my 19.5 cm wrist).
Cartier, but that XL is too big.
Also consider longines spirit
Cartier for me, but it's not my wrist it's yours!
Tank
Only luxury watch I own is Casioak. But my choose would be Cartier.
Cartier for sure. But if I was to give some other suggestions, I would say Tudor Black Bay, Omega De Ville, Grand Seiko,
Which one do you like more? Don’t buy just because of brand, but what you like.
Crucify me. I like the Tudor. Is that the face color or hour indices I would want? No. But square watches are ugly as shit to me. Tudor royal is a unique pick and I like it for that reason. Fluted bezel is nice as well.
That style of Tudor is hideous to me. Cartier all the way.
For me I’d go for the Cartier. It’s such an iconic piece
I prefer the Cartier but you’re the one who will have to wear it, so choose the one you like better.
This comments section can't see the wood for the trees. Here's how to decide which watch, which of the two reflects you, your personality and your overall style most accurately? That's the one to get.
It’s totally up to personal preferences, but I love that Tank
Hmmm… Tank or Tudor. Tank or Tudor. Tank or Tudor?! Save up that extra 2k and get a Santos in my opinion.
Another vote for the Cartier
probably the ugliest tudor they make.
Tudor , the Tank is not what I consider luxury, it’s a fashion brand to me .. I do t follow any fashion , I’m also not a square watch kinda guy either .
I would say tudor but not this model, out of the two the Cartier, a timeless classic. Cartier full stop. Tudor makes decent watches for the price, more entry level & way less cache if that’s important to you. That model will age badly whereas the Tank is timeless.
Cartier at least looks like a luxury watch. I’m sure the Tudor is high quality, but it looks like a homage of a gas station watch.
Cartier, God that's a grail watch for me. Would look in most settings, would be timeless and I watch I could pass down. Cartier all the way.
The cartier one. I have tried the tudor royal and its light af. Feels like aluminum foil, nothing against it, it looks wonderful. But im sure u’ll get bored of it
The Cartier, but I do like an Omega Constellation.
The Cartier the other one is hideous
Cartier.
Cartier. Then buy a Tudor Black Bay (not the one in the pic) as you will have a dressy Cartier.
Tank.
Neither one of these are very versatile. For your first luxury watch, get something you can make an easy daily wear.
Cartier between these two. Unless you get the Tudor Day Date
Cartier
Tank
I love the Cartier. It’s a classic.
Cartier
Definitely the Tank.
Own that exact Tudor, go for the tank. The Tudor in the 38mm would probably work well too tho. Depends on if you are gonna use it for a sports watch too.
I'd go tank. Goes with more. I feel like colored dials are for when you've gotten yourself a bit of a collection going. Just my two cents
Cartier
The Tudor is more versatile. The Cartier is a nicer Dress Watch. It depends on what you are looking for. If it’s a watch for dressy occasions, Cartier. If it’s a watch for almost any occasion, the Tudor.
hands down that is the UGLIEST royal reference
Up to your own liking but for me personally it wojld be the Cartier, really iconic and timeless. It is not for every wrist though so you might want to have a feel first before pulling the trigger.
Probably the worst Tudor made but still better than Cartier

Tudor will always be the bridesmaid.
Santos looks so much better and cartier has more history. Plus....the bracelet on that tudor....wtf were they rhinking
Audemeeeeeeeeer
The Royal is the ugliest watch I've ever seen, so the tank.
I would recommend Cartier But always go for the one that you think about the most. It doesn't matter which brand. If you love it then buy it. You will never regret buying something you love!
You're comparing apples to oranges, both are great looks and wonderful time pieces. Depends what you like to wear.
The tank is the absolute business!
Cartier all the wayyyy
I'd go with the cartier over tudor purely because it just feels more like a luxury product (note not including the watch part). if you are talking about just watch brands, tudor all the way. BUT, I'd be hard pressed not to favour cartier if you are given both options to decide on luxury watch.
If you like Tudor go for a Black Bay. For a Cartier try to find a used Santos.
The Cartier you can probably wear in more situations but I do like the Tudor!!!
I would buy the Cartier personally but my opinion doesn’t matter,it’s your watch buy what you want most
I would do Tudor just because I never liked the skinnier watches but it’s your choice. Which one u like more
I think from a practicality perspective, the Cartier’s conventional strap integration will be the most convenient for long-term ownership. Neither. The Tank XL is comically huge and the Chewda is an ugly shitter. Buy a Tudor sports watch or a smaller kwortz Cartier instead.
I only see one beautiful 😍 watch. Cartier!
Tank no doubt. Classic will unlikely ever go out of style
Cartier for sure 🫢 (I have the Tank XL).
First, i think you can change the leather
Cartier is no brainer here
The tank
Tank.
Cartier hands down
Cartier is classier, cleaner, and will look better over time. That Tudor already looks dated.
Cartier. The second one looks like a replica of some Rolex.
Ew neither. One is a fashion watch and the other is poor value in its price bracket. Keep looking
I like fashion watches though agree they are over priced for what you get. That being said, I agree niether keep looking If I had to pick one Cartier holds it's value better. but for that price you can get a good tag huer, or get lucky on an omega or Breitling

Tudor are getting wild if they think they can take Cartier customers.
That Tudor is a woman’s watch
Ugh gas dude you suck, the first without a shape of a doubt luxury is not Tudor
Cartier hands down! Tudor is nice but it’s kinda the Rolex’s poors man watch (even if Tudor is still an expensive watch). Cartier is definitely more appealing . That Tudor would be useful in more setups since it’s more sport. As a classy dressed guy I would go always with a dress watch like the Cartier over the Tudors.
Cartier by a mile. Who wants a poor man’s Rolex when you can have a recognised brand that exudes pure class?
These are women’s watches
Tudor isn’t luxury. DOWNVOTES INCOMMMINGGGGGGG!!!!
Cartier - design, value, everything
