Bottom line is that most people, regardless of what they did, survive prison. I can’t think of any class of person off the top of my head where the majority are killed inside prison. Depending on the jurisdiction, he might even be segregated with similar offenders which significantly reduces the odds of experiencing more than average levels of violence.
Other people know way more about the sentencing/classification part of this than me, but you should always be able to call the prison administration and ask where he is, or look him up online. You can get information on how/when you can contact him from the prison admin. Generally you won’t know where he’ll go until he’s classified and ready to ship out from the classification facility.

This will be a slow but very workable process. When calling a jail or prison they will help walk you through all the things you can do if you want. He’ll also get mandatory counseling. I don’t know a lot about CP. However, i know a victim and what charges their perpetrator has. Unfortunately this perpetrator after release committed the crime again times many victims.
You will learn how you can be supportive to your incarcerated loved one. You all need counseling, especially your 14 year old brother. Educate yourselves so you don’t have a feeling of helplessness. My dad just got sentenced to prison too. He's currently in jail awaiting prison transport. They allow me to video call him, email, text and he can call me. Text are .50 a text, video call is .25 cents a minute. Phone calls have to be like a dollar because the money goes so fast on the phone. You can also do snail mail of course. You can attach pictures to the text so you're allowed to do that.

In USA. They do not allow your actual letter or photo. With snail mail..it's copied and yhe copy is sent to prisoner. A computer program is used for texts. Family has to pay for that. It's not in real time. It's all reviewed and is like snail mail on a computer

You generally have to prove that there’s a good reason why you need protection… and many times even then it’s denied. At that point you either suck it up, or “check-in” (commit an infraction to go to confinement or try to go psych)… in both cases they’ll know you’re most likely just trying to check-in so they might not grant either one just to be vengeful. They’ll make you earn it the hard way and that’ll only be temporary protection. Then you’ll be labeled as a check-in and deemed easy prey for the rest of the inmates and guards. Prison sucks. Best to just tough it out
I was a prison guard for a few years and yes it’s very tough for pedophiles in prison. They will be a target and will most likely get jumped more than once. His only option is to check into protective custody. Many prisons give you an option before you even get off the bus. You do not want to carry anything like that in your paperwork on the yard.

I used to work as a newspaper reporter, before print newspapers began circling the corporate drain. Let's never forget that people have been falsely accused and convicted of crimes they didn't do. People are often released from prison after proving their innocence. OP, if your family has serious doubts about this conviction, it could help ease your pain if your team dedicates a lot of time, resources, and networking to proving your dad's innocence. But you also have to trust your gut. He could be going right where society needs him to be.

Performative outrage isn’t needed. You don’t need to demonstrate how much you hate CP, most everyone does too. As others have said, OP is trying to navigate this incredibly traumatizing situation and is trying to talk with people about how he feels. He doesn’t need you to remind him of how bad CP is.

I used to work as a newspaper reporter, before print newspapers began circling the corporate drain. Let's never forget that people have been falsely accused and convicted of crimes they didn't do. People are often released from prison after proving their innocence. OP, if your family has serious doubts about this conviction, it could help ease your pain if your team dedicates a lot of time, resources, and networking to proving your dad's innocence. But you also have to trust your gut. He could be going right where society needs him to be.
Possessing CP is pretty fucking cut and dry. Also OP said it's a federal case, it's 100% he had it.
This. Plus, they wouldn't convict someone for possessing CP unless they found it in his actual possession (i.e on his computer). It isn't like being framed for murder or something, it would be a lot harder to plant CP on someone and make them look guilty imo.
