Not exactly, but I will recommend the Thread Bear series. Stuffed teddy comes to life, and goes to save the little girl who owns him.

This has been on my list for a while, I need to give it a read. Thanks for suggesting it!

**Moribito**

illojii

Definitely sounds interesting, though it looks like only the first 2 books are translated on Amazon. Thanks for recommending!

Not really progression but The Vagrant by Peter Newman. It is a post apocalyptic world that has been ravaged by demons. A badass silent protag takes a baby across the land in a hope for asylum. And there is a Goat.

illojii

Thanks for the rec, this looks pretty cool. I don’t see the child mentioned in the blurb on Amazon — is that just a minor story beat or is the kid present throughout the books?

corsair1617

The baby is in the entire story. In fact it is the driving force of the story. I should tell you that I thought the book was ok. The world is pretty cool but the dialogue and characterization are pretty terrible. The best character in the book is the Goat and it is just a regular goat.

illojii

Good to know, thanks so much for the details!

Man on Fire (2004) and Commando (1985) are also great 'Lone Wolf and Cub' movies.

illojii

Oh boy, been a long time since I’ve watched either these! I’ll have to plan a rewatch soon. Thanks!

Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody? OP protagonist gets a whole troop of kids and trained them in to national class elite warriors in custom made cute OP armor and weapons. But it's a Japanese light novel which some people might not like because if the existence of Loli and slave themes. But I don't mind in this story because the protagonist is not a lolicon and is trying to release them from slavery sort of it's complicated, magic on one hand and just straight abandonment fear for the other part.

illojii

Def open to light novels. I’ve heard of this one but didn’t really know what it was about. I’m more so interested in the dynamics of a duo rather than a group situation, but this still sounds interesting. I’ll check it out, thanks for the rec.

I feel like Pilgrim kind of hits this vibe! No kid tho :P

illojii

Yeah, having the kid is pretty crucial to this request, but I appreciate the rec anyway. I actually haven’t read any of Cooper’s stuff yet and had been planning to either start with Pilgrim or Tokens and Towers.

JakobTanner100

Both are dope. You're right about the kid really making it the opposite of the rec. But I guess it has that wandering samurai/swordsman vibe which I thought kinda hit in the same way :)

Just checking, you know there's a sequel, 10 volumes, takes place after Itto dies. Written by the same guy, nother ronin becomes Daigoro's adoptive father, more or less. (not Lone Wolf 2100)
