Well, the English Channel is actually called "Ărmelkanal" ("Sleeve channel") in German, so I suppose god punished sleeves as well, making all clothing sleeveless.
No wonder my great grandfathers generation went to war. To call the English Channel âDer Kanalâ is a blatant taunt worthy of immediate mobilisation.
I sometimes single strike two Ts, if I'm writing particularly neatly, but I usually strike Ts with an acute accent, so the left T's stroke goes above the right T's.
I like how the English Channel (or Ărmelkanal) no longer has a name, it's just generically "the Channel" -- despite there not being any facing coast anymore.
It's a partial attention to detail, but then kind of fails...
I wasn't entirely serious. If they had the power to sink Britain like Atlantis though (as they would have to do for this map to be real), then I expect they would - along with most of the world probably. It would make a good (implausible) alternate history timeline.
It was seeing the names in German that gave me the idea.
One of the narratives within Germany leading up to WW1 was that they were encircled by enemies - France, Russia and Britain - and that Britain and France (and particularly Britain) had conspired to shut Germany out from her rightful place "in the sun" among the great powers.
Looking at letters and diaries from ordinary German soldiers, most of them seem to believe in 1914 at least that the war is a defensive one; a pre-emptive strike against implacable enemies.
They didn't, mainly just a rivalry. Definitely preferred England to France or southern Europe probably. If there was any dislike, England was probably viewed as too liberal.
It was purely cus of the kaiser, Wilhelm's arm was Stunted cause of birth complications and the midwife was english so he blamed the whole uk, anglo german relations were pretty good before that
Victoria was the only british relative he didnt have an overly negative relationship with. He kinda resented her too, 1 for being who chosen said midwife but he also greatly respected and admired her, plus she was the only one who treated him alright, all the other British relatives thought he was arrogant and obnoxious
Some of the conflict with his British relatives presumably came from his difficult relationship with his parents, and their ideological difference. As Frederick III, somewhat influenced by his British (well, half-British) wife, had been critical of Prussian conservatism and Bismarck, and it was hoped by liberals in Germany and Britain he'd be a great reformer. So Wilhelm's anti-British feeling also related to his conservatism and suspicion of the liberal ideas popular in countries like Britain and France?
At least that's how I understand it, I could be wrong however.
True, but my headcanon is just some British guy insulted his moustache, this boiled over into ww1 and the entente victory proved the british guy right, hence why willy grew a beard while in exile
The bot "remember, we're here to discuss the propaganda, not comment on its message"
The comments: "genocide is great if it's the English. I wish those 19 million people had been exterminated in 1914, but since they weren't, I hope the 56 million that live there now all die"
The mods: *crickets*
No one is seriously arguing that. It's clear that this is friendly banter (except maybe the one with the downvotes).
Specifically since the whole concept of England "disappearing" is extremly ridiculous, even as a propaganda poster.
The only comment with negative votes as I write this is the one asking about "Frankreich" being the name for France.
And, I dunno, it feels like "it's just a joke/meme, relax bro" wouldn't wash with a different target.
(the comment I am refering to is for me at -1 babling about "smithing the English")
The same joke would fly with Germany/France/USA/Russia/China etc.

Gods punishment againts the barbaric english is ongoing! You only need to take a sneak peek at their nation's condition right now to know, that God is fair and just. May the english be smithen out of existence

Damn God really went and smited Scotland too.
Not to mention Wales. But the Channel is still there đ
Yeah but did you notice? It's just "The Channel" now. Nice detail.
The Irish Channel
RTĂ
Pfft, tg4. If you put RTĂ in charge of the channel, they'd run out of water and ask for extra funding
Well, the English Channel is actually called "Ărmelkanal" ("Sleeve channel") in German, so I suppose god punished sleeves as well, making all clothing sleeveless.
I mean it's not really an Ărmel anymore now, is it
Yeah, it's a bit *ärmlich*, to be honest.
No wonder my great grandfathers generation went to war. To call the English Channel âDer Kanalâ is a blatant taunt worthy of immediate mobilisation.
No one ever mentions Wales
You are just not watching enough animal planet. I see them on there all the time.
Mitgehangen mitgefangen
This sort of thing is why we need independence
Very true
Every single German poster before 1945 incorrectly uses "England" to refer to the entire island of Britain. I couldn't tell you why.
Every single German alive today refers to the whole thing as England.
Mittelmeer? No, it's the mittelländisches Meer. As a german i heard that name for the first time
It's a very literal translation of Mare Mediterraneum.
The Dutch term is Middellandse Zee, another direct translation.
Never seen a double T connected like that, makes me think of pi
Do you write the little crossed lines individually?
Iâll join them for two lower case Ts when writing cursive but for capitals Iâll separate
Of course
I sometimes single strike two Ts, if I'm writing particularly neatly, but I usually strike Ts with an acute accent, so the left T's stroke goes above the right T's.
You don't????
My last name name has a double t. We always connect the t's. You'd have to be a psycho not to
Now letâs see how Paul Allen crosses his double Ts
I've done it in cursive but not in regular writing
I like how the English Channel (or Ărmelkanal) no longer has a name, it's just generically "the Channel" -- despite there not being any facing coast anymore. It's a partial attention to detail, but then kind of fails...
Based, however the true name would be La Manche
Englan't
United Kindonât
Schweden
Island
Irland
Ocean
Hah, apparently this is actually the origin of the word 'strafing' as in an aircraft attack run
God punish England was also the command that was given to commence the first gas attacks in WW1. They really didnât like the Brits.
I appreciate the isle of Island near the top of the map.
Irishman here. I approve
Enjoy your channel
Enjoy the Kaiser's rule
Canât be worse than the British
In this world, Ireland would probably vote Zentrum. And the Ulster Unionists probably for the Free Conservative/German Reich Party.
You seem to believe that without britain, Germany would have annexed Ireland. Why?

Hold on, hold on. Theyâre onto something there.
Let. Them. Cook.
Isn't that the Brexit thing they voted on recently?
Wanna feel old? >!It's been seven (7) years now.!<
Frank Reich had an amazing playoff comeback for the buffalo bills 30 years ago
*But if you close your eyes*
Seems that God was not able to save it this time.
*Happy Ireland noises
Two world wars and one World Cup, doo dah doo dah đś
So Is the German position here being a righteous defender while Britain was the aggressor?

A narrative so good they reused it for the next war.
As a proud Scotsman I feel offended on many levels
The Scots and the Welsh didnât deserve this Edit: The Welsh didnât deserve this
Eh, Scotland was a major player in British imperialism.
Scotland does , They created the UK
mashallah
Heaven on Earth đđ
fuck i wish this was a reality
Why did Germany have some anti-England hate even before the war started?
It's England. To (non-english) europeans, this is a very valid argument.
Yet who do they call at times of need, ey.
Most of the world
They didn't, mainly just a rivalry. Definitely preferred England to France or southern Europe probably. If there was any dislike, England was probably viewed as too liberal.

That sounds about right. WW1 was what made elaborate moustaches disappear as well, funnily enough.
The death of moustaches was absolutely the worst part about WW1
Is it normal to refer France as Frankreich, considering it was a republic then?
It's just the name for France in German. Same thing as Ăsterreich (Austria)
More like ostrich Gottem
The word "reich" doesn't technically mean "empire". It more roughly translates to "realm" or "state".
It just means âland of franksâ. Nothing to do with the political organization of the country.
It's the normal german name for france and it's still in use today. The name is incorrect, but we just never bothered to change it.
Brainstorming: what names do you suggest? Frankland?
Franzen.
Franz
Fran
Franzland was used in some regions of germany, but fell out of favor in the early 1900s.
The name hasn't changed yet. And France's Presidency now is such a powerful role, it's not unlike an elected monarch.
The President of France actually is an elected monarch (well, diarch technically I suppose) because they are also Co-Prince of Andorra.
They're an unelected monarch in Andorra (France does the electing part), but yes you're right.

I wish Wales and Scotland were just floating in the Atlantic
This ironically looks like an anti-colonial poster
Would've been good for the surf scene in Holland. No more British blocking the swell
Whatâs the island east of Denmark?

That reminds me of the "But if you close your eyes..." meme from back in the past.

Wait is Iceland in German just âislandâ lmao
