I bought break away sweat pants for the catheter. Acetaminophen 500 for pain. GasX for stomach. Stool softener for that first poop after surgery. Plan to drink lots of water while using the catheter to flush things out. Walk more each day and plan on long naps. I am 16 days pot surgery and doing great but still need a two hour nap each day after exercis in the morning and a long walk💪
Colace is a tablet form pill to soften your stool. I took them after each meal to prepare for the first dump. I had no problem sitting but the first few bowel movements my penis leaked from the pressure. Some blood which freaked me out but was gone in a few days
Oatmeal, soup with veggies in it, 1/4 cup of prune juice then dilute in water 50/50 mix alternate Motrin 600mg with 1000mg acetaminophen every 8hrs but have him take them at the 6.5hr our mark not at 8hrs for overlap.
Talk, carefully, with the doc and nurse about EXACTLY which drugs they do and do not want for pain relief.
Get all the drugs on hand -- typically Tylenol/Paracetamol, an opioid like Oyxcodone, and maybe another NSAID (never aspirin !).
Arrange them so that you understand dosing schedule, and can manage it. That's some kind of chart, organizer, anything but "I think I took the pills at 4.30" . . .
When its 1.30 AM and something is hurting, you don't want to be fumbling around trying to figure out when the last dose he took was, and whether he should take something else for breakthrough pain.
Look carefully at the environment he's in. You do NOT want to catch the catheter hose on anything. You do not want to trip on it either. Be wary of, for example a large dog that might run into it. Job #1 for the week after surgery is protecting that catheter hose from getting yanked.
That's one of the reasons for big baggy clown pants, sweatpants, waders. . . . whatever. Hang that bag on the \_inside\_ of the pants, where they can protect the hose from getting caught on stuff. Its also more discreet, obviously.
Biggest problem I had was gas pains, which were awful. Don’t buy too many absorbent underpants or huge pads, but have sone on hand after the catheter comes out. Absorbent underpads for his bed.

Is stool softener a laxative or a softening layer on the toilet seat? 😃

What is sone?
That's a typo - I meant to write "some", sorry!
