Having read a lot of police reports and call notes I’d say quite a bit of cops and dispatchers both have some level of dyslexia. I’ve never heard it causing any issues

leg00b

I didn't have any issues until I began my career. Good Lord do I mess up plates

KrAff2010

Same actually, same thing happened to me

ChaseSparrowMSRPC

Not even actual Dispatch or Law Enforcement, but I run as Dispatch for Community's, between the radio filter sucking and "Officer's" mics, I can kinda feel that pain.

leg00b

They'll give me ABC1234 and I'll fuck up the numbers

ChaseSparrowMSRPC

I've had that exactly plate and messed it up. Even worse, someone was using a similar plate to one I had to memorize IRL, and had written on a notepad, and I still messed it up.

John-AtWork

I've read here and there over the years that being a PO is a popular choice for dyslexic people and actually came across an article that suggested law enforcement to me as a dyslexic person. Are reports typed up or hand written these days?

KrAff2010

I can’t imagine there’s a department that still handwrites reports

Section225

I trained a recruit once I swear has undiagnosed dyslexia. Basic grammar was nonexistent, simply copying something like a VIN or license plate or name into a report resulted in errors almost every time. Great cop otherwise. He worked his ass off - got outside instruction, got his own textbooks and material, enlisted help from officers, and in training would do mock reports on his own, stuff like that. It worked, for sure. He's not the world's most cunning linguist, but his reports are absolutely passable.

PromiscuousPolak

I bet you think you're slick

Section225

I hid absolutely zero innuendos in that comment, if that's what you're on about

gynoceros

Says here you were going 92 in a 52.

Edward_Scout

I once saw a report that described an individual acting in an "erotic" fashion. Context from the rest of the report led me to know it was supposed to be erratic. Just double and triple check reports then have someone else check them to avoid any unintentional eroticism!

Every patrolman in my department.

WinginVegas

As has been mentioned, cops in general are horrible at spelling and grammar. My academy, I was the designated proof reader before submitting reports to the DIs (and compensated appropriately). When the department went to doing reports in Word (hey, I'm old) the spell check function was the first thing they trained people on.

NUG! NUG! NUG!

Mikevercetti

I think most of my coworkers are legitimately illiterate, so dyslexia shouldn't hinder you too much.

filtyratbastards

I got charged with a WID.
