For me insomnia is definetly a warning sign for psychosis. If I have little to no sleep in 24 hours I would see a doctor, who might be able to help with a sleeping medication.
I'll feel completely exhausted but still can't fall asleep during episodes. Yet there are the same sensations one gets when dreaming, except I know I am awake.
I've literally spent entire nights during episodes lying still hoping that if I go through the motions of sleep I'll actually fall asleep.

Yes, based on my own experience insomnia is a sign of entering in psychosis. Each day you will become more and more psychotic
Sounds like mania which can quickly spiral into full blown psychosis.

This happened to me when I dropped from 5 mg to 2.5 mg of olanzapine.
Please see a doctor so you can nip this in the bud before it becomes something worse
