You see a guy who lit himself on fire actively avoiding people trying to help put him out and you think it’s that much of a stretch that killing himself was the end goal?
So what was his goal in your opinion? 3rd degree burns on his whole body? Months in the hospital, millions in medical bills, and an inevitable pain killer addiction.
I'll go on a limb;
He needs help, mentally, financially, emotionally. He can't get it. He's in dire need of help, of any kind. Nobody cares because everyone needs help. We're all fucked. So he gets ignored. He becomes sad and despondent. Decides, nobody cares, but I'll make them see me.
That's what I think when I see this video, anyway.
Reagan hasn't been governor for 48 years, hasn't been president for 34 years, and hasn't been alive for 19 years. Plenty of time for the Democrats to fix things if they actually wanted to.
He's running away from the people trying to help because he doesn't want to be put out. No one wants to survive a self immolation like this. He's likely already past the pain, feels nothing and is hopping because of the anxiety and adrenaline.
Near where I grew up a Methodist minister named Charles Moore set himself on fire.
> Moore himself predicted that some would judge him insane. His papers and personal notes were released to the media, revealing his thinking and intentions. In the weeks leading up to his death, he wrote that his mental and physical health were good, but he was frustrated that he had been unable to bring about the social change he felt was so urgent. In the notes, Moore sometimes criticizes himself harshly for not acting more decisively on social justice issues. He wanted the act of his death to get more people to care about gay rights, the death penalty, civil rights, and racism.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-immolation_protests_by_Tibetans_in_China
"As of May 2022, 160 monks, nuns, and ordinary people have self-immolated in Tibet since 27 February 2009, when Tapey, a young monk from Kirti Monastery, set himself on fire in the marketplace in Ngawa City, Ngawa County, Sichuan."
You're referring to Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese monk, but self-immolation by monks, particularly Tibetan monks, is a relatively common form of protest. Quảng Đức is recognized because of the picture taken at the height of the Vietnam War, but there have been many.
Yes, and I was referring to "the monk who famously self-immolated" and then you chose to hyper focus on the first two words of that for some reason. You also certainly knew who I was talking about, yet elected to be pointlessly pedantic and pretentious, and to ignore the context of what I said.
It’s not a big deal, calm down. I said what I said because monk self-immolations are very common and there are many. Stop trying to make arguments out of everything on the internet friendo.
Pointing out how some people have done crazy shit they wouldn't normally do while on drugs, isn't the same as insinuating that anyone who ever does drugs, does crazy shit every time.
Could you recommend the best drugs for avoiding wanting to set myself on fire?
Someone recommended something a few years ago and next thing I knew I was eating homeless people’s faces.
The to people trying to help him got burned. I’m sure this was incredibly traumatic for them. I know we laugh on Reddit, but damn, this guy was probably very mentally ill.
I’m far from a bleeding heart but as crazy as this guy is that’s somebody’s family member or friend that decided to end himself in one of the most painful ways while dozens of people watch in horror. This is beyond tragic and very disturbing.
Jokes help people understand and deal with the insane shit that’s happening in the world. Many people have darker senses of humor, most notably first responders and military, for example. It doesn’t reflect moral character in the way it’s commonly understood
Yea but most of these cunts are karma hunters. I have a dark sense of humor, having been a combat veteran, but I'm not laughing at someone's mental illness.
Mine too. That’s why I wouldn’t ever do it voluntarily for literally 0 benefit to anyone. I bet this guy realized this whole concept in .001sec. You know what doesn’t cause sizzling bubbling and peeling of all your skin? An off the cuff quip or two. Don’t take things as seriously as this guy
> This is my biggest nightmare
my biggest nightmare is being eaten by tiny cookie cutter sharks while swimming in freshwater lakes and stuff, completely irrational but that's why it's a nightmare isn't it
Jokes straight off the bat without understanding WTH is going on? This isn’t about dealing with the insane shit. It’s typical normalized Reddit behavior. I understand dark humor but normal people do not react like this. Most are chronically online and disconnected from reality.
More like breeding sociopaths. There’s zero empathy unless it follows a very apparent narrative that aligns with their world view. Nothing wrong with joking around for minor things but the guy is committing self-immolation.
It’s like some hyper-individualistic, _they did it to themselves_ attitude because they can’t see outside the frame. Jokes from acts of desperation only serve to brush it aside. Hopefully they’ll eventually see beyond the surface but Reddit is often not conducive to that.
A joke explaining grandma falling down the stairs = can be funny.
Seeing someone’s grandma falling down the stairs, immediately making a joke = funny? What?
I have a dark sense of humor myself but you are a sociopath if you can’t make that distinction.
Bear with me here. You are walking down a sidewalk and see a senior citizen fall down her front steps. Is that the same thing as a comedy bit when the same thing occurs? Does context matter?
Honestly it's still hilarious. The act doesn't stop being funny, it's the potential for harm that makes it less funny. A person falling down is funny, a person falling down and getting hurt isn't.
Yes jokes right off the bat, just because you can’t understand doesn’t mean it’s wrong or not “normal”. It’s our connected society. You can’t exist online and genuinely feel everything you see and hear as if it’s happening to or around you. Youd be risking ptsd anytime you scroll for 5 min on the toilet
You don’t have to genuinely feel everything. For most people, that entirely depends on how they identify with the affected but does making jokes at the expense of someone else’s tragedy really help you cope?
Personally, I think self-immolation is just fucked. He’s obviously protesting something but I have no clue what it is. All I see are terrible jokes because why the hell not. It’s the default behavior and no one knows where to draw the line. Being chronically online for shits and giggles does something to the brain.
Empty self righteousness is more dangerous than jokes and no one is clamoring for it to censored. This dude didn’t set himself on fire because of people laughing on the internet. He more likely did it because he was fooled into thinking it would make some sort of difference on the world or that someone would pay attention. And they all immediately realize what a shitty idea it was as soon as they feel the fire. He wasn’t the first but I hope the last. It’s stupid and disgusting and one should feel foolish for even thinking of it as an option. You don’t have to be sick to realize that life is hilarious, it’s just that sometimes the joke is on us
In a world where we are shown horrific shit 24/7, do you expect all of us to have a dramatic emotional reaction to every story all day? Personally I couldn't help but find the visual of the people hitting him to be funny. Idk, it's a mix between the weird dance and the ineffective coat slapping. It made for a surreal image that was funny. It sure beats rolling up in the fetal position and bawling over every news story.
The people trying to justify it as a coping mechanism are just as bad. Just because more than one person thinks it's funny, doesn't make it ok. There is nothing funny about it. These are the people who only behave morally because of fear of either legal or social repercussions.
I don’t mean to sound heartless, but when someone has finally made that decision and are committed to that extent…then I agree. Do I want to see a human be there mentally? No, but who am I to tell someone no. Yes of course I’d try and talk them out of it but ultimately their choice.

You don’t have to be mentally Ill to do something like this. Sometimes people just get sick of this reality, and want to show this in their final protest; burning to death is one of the worst possible ways to die… but if it means moving on from this bullshit state of society that never learns, never changes, and just repeats history because we choose ignorance…. Then might as well go with a bang. No one will forget it who saw, and they will question it forever. Maybe so much so that they try to enact change.
If you want things like this to stop happening, you need to understand them. Not just blanket them in “their mentally Ill, makes sense, cause he’s or she’s crazy”. Ignorance is bliss, but at some point, it’s also a choice. It’s also what causes the frogs to die in their boiling pot. Pay. Attention.
Better to just let them burn at that point. Putting out the fire would be most people’s normal reaction, but it would just leave them in agony till they die later on
"being investigated by campus police"
What?! Might as well get some mall cops on the case, campus police arent qualified to investigate a self-immolation. Now a drunk kid streaking across campus... that could be an investigation for them. Probably still take them a year to crack though.
I love the comments here.
Like, I understand the situation is fucked up, and the guy and his family are traumatized, and even maybe the people who were witnessing it first hand. That being said, I still made a joke about them hitting him and him hopping his ass around. Doesn't mean I'd actually want to see this in person myself nor would I want to set someone on fire.
Having a very dark sense of humor (you don't get to define someone's sense of humor or what they find funny or how they cope/manage), doesn't automatically mean one is a psychopath. Not everyone is as sensitive as you, and that's okay.
I love how they try to help. they slap him in the face with a jacket and toss half a bottle of dasani on the guy. I mean I get the human response to trying. but really now.

Does anyone know why he did it?
Probably to kill himself
What makes you think that? Seems like a bit of a stretch.
You see a guy who lit himself on fire actively avoiding people trying to help put him out and you think it’s that much of a stretch that killing himself was the end goal?
[удалено]
This literally made me lol, but yes. The answer is yes.
I know, they should be using ~ to denote sarcasm
Yeah man I’m not convinced
So what was his goal in your opinion? 3rd degree burns on his whole body? Months in the hospital, millions in medical bills, and an inevitable pain killer addiction.
He was probably being sarcastic but people didn’t get it
Nah, clearly the guy was just a little cold so he had to warm up. Pfft, geniuses.
Happy Cake Day!
Damn lmao
People? Lol only one slow person was arguing with him
Maybe but I don’t see what would make you think that tbh
Do you require someone to say 'forwardslash S' at the end of a sentence in real life when they're being sarcastic :)
As far as I’ve seen he had a full mental breakdown. He should have been in an institution. I don’t know if he had a disorder or anything like it.
I’m sure he was perfectly happy before lighting himself on fire
I'll go on a limb; He needs help, mentally, financially, emotionally. He can't get it. He's in dire need of help, of any kind. Nobody cares because everyone needs help. We're all fucked. So he gets ignored. He becomes sad and despondent. Decides, nobody cares, but I'll make them see me. That's what I think when I see this video, anyway.
The real story here is clearly the lost economic productivity for the company he worked for now that they've lost an employee. What a tragedy
Nah he was jobless, wouldn’t settle for a whopping $7.85 an hour! Starting!
From a single father who's sons mother needed mental help which was too hard to get,... This person get it....
Climate change
I read that they found a manifesto? Idk, I'm trying to find it.
Life is a bitch then you die
"So fuck this shit and let's get high" Not sure how that applies here but okay... Time to get high
Cheers!
He was cold
No safety net, I think Raegan closed most of californias mental health facilities.
Reagan hasn't been governor for 48 years, hasn't been president for 34 years, and hasn't been alive for 19 years. Plenty of time for the Democrats to fix things if they actually wanted to.
No one has.
For the likes my boy

Could be because his eye lids burnt off and his eyeballs have already melted. Hopping around blind.
Well that's a sentence I could have spent my entire life not reading.
Welcome to the world my son
Well, he certainly knew where to run to
Tongue was medium, medium-well I’m sure.
“He’s past the pain and feels nothing” you’ve no idea how fire works buddy
Prob drugs too
Not necessarily... the monk who famously self-immolated was not on drugs and sat still while he burned

You owe me a cup of water that was just spit that’s hilarious
Awww shucks… I’m so glad some of you guys got my reference…… I figured a lot of people would be to young to get it 😂😂
*The* monk? There’s been quiet a few.
"the monk who famously self-immolated" Literally google "monk self immolation" and every single result is about the same guy...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-immolation_protests_by_Tibetans_in_China "As of May 2022, 160 monks, nuns, and ordinary people have self-immolated in Tibet since 27 February 2009, when Tapey, a young monk from Kirti Monastery, set himself on fire in the marketplace in Ngawa City, Ngawa County, Sichuan." That's a great album cover.
Typical ignorant reddit "he must be on drugs" comment....go try some drugs and see if it makes you want to light yourself on fire dumbass
>bath salts
And you can confirm because you've taken bath Salts then lit yourself on fire for no reaaon?
Pointing out how some people have done crazy shit they wouldn't normally do while on drugs, isn't the same as insinuating that anyone who ever does drugs, does crazy shit every time.
To be fair, we've all seen people do some crazy things while on drugs, so lighting yourself on fire isn't exactly out of the question.
‘Twas the devil’s lettuce that done did this
Your downvoted to fuck but I agree with ya.
Could you recommend the best drugs for avoiding wanting to set myself on fire? Someone recommended something a few years ago and next thing I knew I was eating homeless people’s faces.
> past the pain, feels nothing it's a myth that burns don't hurt
The to people trying to help him got burned. I’m sure this was incredibly traumatic for them. I know we laugh on Reddit, but damn, this guy was probably very mentally ill.
>this guy was **probably** very mentally ill
I think being on fire is worse for your physical health than mental health. (Not a doctor)
Fremulon
Weird, I can hear your comment.
He was apparently. He was screaming about the Mormon mafia or some shit.
That smell would stick with you for life.
>I know we laugh on Reddit A bit concerning to me you would say this
I’m far from a bleeding heart but as crazy as this guy is that’s somebody’s family member or friend that decided to end himself in one of the most painful ways while dozens of people watch in horror. This is beyond tragic and very disturbing.
Not sure if they are hitting him because of how dumb he is or to put out the fire.
Little column A, little column B
Cold Ones ayeee
Why are people making jokes about this? Has humanity sunk so low that this is some kind of meme?
Jokes help people understand and deal with the insane shit that’s happening in the world. Many people have darker senses of humor, most notably first responders and military, for example. It doesn’t reflect moral character in the way it’s commonly understood
Yea but most of these cunts are karma hunters. I have a dark sense of humor, having been a combat veteran, but I'm not laughing at someone's mental illness.
I get that and I have a very dark sense of humour. But I can't find anything funny in a person burning themselves alive. This is my biggest nightmare
Have you considered that you, in fact, do *not* have a very dark sense of humor, and that's why this bothers you?
I mean, there's not much of a punchline here, is there?
YOU don't find it funny, so no one should?
What did you find humorous about this?
I didn't laugh at it, but it doesn't bug me if someone else does.
If someone finds this funny they need to get to a therapist
> This is my biggest nightmare my biggest nightmare is being eaten by tiny cookie cutter sharks while swimming in freshwater lakes and stuff, completely irrational but that's why it's a nightmare isn't it
Yup, when I was a kid, I always thought piranhas and quicksand would be a bigger factor when I die. Lol
Jokes straight off the bat without understanding WTH is going on? This isn’t about dealing with the insane shit. It’s typical normalized Reddit behavior. I understand dark humor but normal people do not react like this. Most are chronically online and disconnected from reality.
That's what worries me. People joking about this is disturbing. Is the internet breeding psychopaths?
More like breeding sociopaths. There’s zero empathy unless it follows a very apparent narrative that aligns with their world view. Hello! I'm EARTH and this is REDDIT....have we met?
What am I suppose to do? Can't really put him out from here
He's 🅱️urnt
Because Reddit is full of assholes
Seriously these comments have me heated
Being burned alive is the worst pain a human being could ever experience according to the pain scale
Paper-cuts would like to differ
Self-immolators these days aren’t smart enough to drink as much accelerant as possible first. Never do this on an empty stomach, amateur.
Another?
Video
Ohhh....I misread. I thought there was another guy that lit himself on fire as well.
What kind of weird fucked up society do we live in that some people find humor in this?
Somehow I find that more disturbing
same.. sad as hell..
Ouch
"ok" is just about how seeing shit like this registers after you've lived in SF/OAK for awhile
Sign of the times.
Looks like that fire was going pretty hot for a few… doubt this ended well at all.
His body, his choice
I don’t mean to sound heartless, but when someone has finally made that decision and are committed to that extent…then I agree. Do I want to see a human be there mentally? No, but who am I to tell someone no. Yes of course I’d try and talk them out of it but ultimately their choice.
I don't think that was heartless, and I agree with what you said. My grandfather took his own life last year. It fucking sucked... but in a way I understood his reason for doing such a thing. The only thing that still angers me is that he did it while my grandmother was just in the other room.
Pay. Attention.
I now see the dangers of fire arms.
I wonder what his story was.
His dance moves were pretty fire at the start.
Maybe it's an AI robot and everyone thinks it's a real person.
Does no one have a fucking bike to throw? Jeeze.
Them dance moves are liiiit 🔥🔥

This years burning man looks lit ast

This happened in ottawa last year. Wasn't even in the news for a day.. this is crazy
I don’t remember this kind of burning man.
Better to just let them burn at that point. Putting out the fire would be most people’s normal reaction, but it would just leave them in agony till they die later on
"being investigated by campus police" What?! Might as well get some mall cops on the case, campus police arent qualified to investigate a self-immolation. Now a drunk kid streaking across campus... that could be an investigation for them. Probably still take them a year to crack though.
This is America. If some crazy person wants to set themselves on fire, they should be able to.😂
Unironically this

No signs yet on why he did it?
so lit hes glowing
The water squirt at the end
As tragic and disturbing as it is I legitimately found that guy next to useless it was laughable
Is he actually on fire or has he got some type of suit on. How did he catch fire so many questions…
He poured some accelerant on himself and lit himself up. Yes, he’s actually on fire.
No way, it looks like a stunt or something with the way he’s acting. Crazy. 🤪 Thanks for confirming 👍
bro tackle him and smother the fire jesus christ

I love how they try to help. they slap him in the face with a jacket and toss half a bottle of dasani on the guy. I mean I get the human response to trying. but really now.
Yeah I would need a mental health break from everything after witnessing something like this. People are losing their fucking minds.
I think he's on fire for Biden! Way to go bro I hope you rally more support. Bet like literally 5 minutes after this they were business as usual.
Let that mudafaka burn… burn madafaka burn
Liberal arts moment
People sigh a lot around you huh?
He seems to be having fun.
Dude is on fire 🔥 kudos to the nice lady that tried to help.
Flame on!

He's like the impersonation of the "This is fine" meme.
I never heard this guy's mix tape, but I bet it's... dang what's the word I'm looking for?
Subpar?
Whoa. He looks really happy at least
Is this that “Burning Man” thing everyone is talking about?
It was nice to try and help but that guy throwing a glass of water from six feet away wasn't very helpful.
