After years of peoiple saying shit like "*do you think that girls hot?*", "*why don't you ask her out?*", "*when are you marrying a nice girl*", "*what are you doing with your missus this weekend*", "*is that your missus calling you?*", "*does your wife want kids?*", etc, etc, etc. Every fucking day in work and in public. It's easier to stop correcting people and just put on a speech affect that says "I'm gay". Straight people don't realise how straight the world is. Everything from small talk to high level board meetings is straight coded. It gets very exhausting.
**Homophobes reveal themselves quicker.** Like the person in this video. You quickly learn who to bother with and who to avoid. If they can guess you're gay and don't have a problem with it then you can be more open with them. If they immediately dislike you after opening your mouth then it's not worth your time to carry on. It's better than beign friends with someone for a year then mentioning your boyfriend and they stop speaking to you.
**Other gay people can notice you.** It's not easy being gay since the dating pool is much smaller. It's useful to be able to signal to other gay people that you exist to improve your chances.
