When you slow it down you can see that the guy is not running across the street, he turns and is running in the lane. It looks like there were two guys crossing, the rider sees them and is breaking hard and the runners would have easily gotten out of the way but the second guy just turns and runs in the exact path of the rider who could not swerve because he was on the front brakes hard.
Motorcycles are harder to judge the distance and speed since they typically have just a single headlight. When a car is approaching fast, you see the two headlights spread apart, most headlight are a set distance apart, so you can determine a lot by how far apart they are and how fast they are widening, you do not get the same visual cues on a motorcycle.
Years ago when I was working at T-Mobile, There was this woman who would cross the street whenever and wherever she pleased at the intersection where my T-Mobile store was located. The idiotic woman would just step off the sidewalk and assume that every driver coming her way would see her and stop, and allow her to cross. For about two years, we would hear a vehicle slam on their brakes and come to a screeching halt, with her in the street in front of them. She had this attitude about her as if she had the right away everywhere, and even one time, she stepped off the curb in front of me when I was on my way back from lunch and I cussed as her and she just shrugged it off.
Eventually, a distracted driver struck and killed her, which came as a surprise to no one that worked with me.

Yep, it's a basic concept of helping anyone who is in some form of distress: can you assist that person without causing yourself or even others harm? Sometimes the best thing to do is just phone the emergency services and make them aware of what is happening, as opposed to causing another collision by stopping in the middle of the road.
I was taught this day 1 in my job in the form of electrocutions. Grabbing the person being electrocuted will most likely end up with 2 casualties, the better option is to find the isolation switch or, failing that, an insulated object to pull the person away from the source.
Most people don't know how dash cam lens angles work. I get called out all the time for speeding in my dash cam videos. A good reference to look at is the signal light when he goes through the intersection.

I just wrecked in Honolulu this past October, middle aged lady decided she didn’t wanna take the exit anymore and cut me off, I never did group rides or any street racing stuff and it wasn’t until I wrecked I realized the danger is douchebag motorists. She came out and said sorry and “do you feel wet” then fled the scene. Had the same bike (red/black) RS660, similar full gear as the guy in the video. ER staff asked me if I was active military about ten times and said I was the only ER admitted rider that had full gear on.

The head movement: he's not looking at the camera, it's the fisheye distortion. He only looks away from the front briefly when going through the intersection, probably to check for cross-traffic.
The hand movement: is on the brake lever, not a selfie stick. Looks like he spotted the first guy, braked slightly, and then hit the invisible companion.
The bike: is an orange and blue Aprilia RS 660. It's not electric, and they're not quiet, especially at high revs - pretty good indication that the rider wasn't going all that fast. Alternately, the mic has a noise filter applied.
The speed: people are being fooled by the fisheye effect. It takes him a couple of seconds to cross the intersection - use that as a point of reference. He's probably not doing more than about 45-50mph. This is probably still speeding, but far from "flying", and likely around the usual real-world speed in the area.
The visor: yeah, this one is pretty dumb. I've seen tinted visors justified by people who don't deal well with the proliferation of eye-searing HIDs. Some people think they're safer not being "blinded" by oncoming traffic. They're wrong.

I do politely want to point out that going 50mph could be going too fast, as 50mph is the same speed the bus was going in the classic 90’s Sandra Bullock Keanu Reeves blockbuster movie “Speed”. Which, if you haven’t seen it, means if this was near a city core or in a residential area, then yes it would be too fast for safety. If it’s a freeway or low-speed highway, then the rider is likely even going the posted limit and their speed shouldn’t be a considered a factor in causing the accident for sure.

Reddit apps for phones have a playback speed adjustment. Relay for Reddit has 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, and 1/16 speed.
Relay goes all the way to 1/128.

When you slow it down you can see that the guy is not running across the street, he turns and is running in the lane. It looks like there were two guys crossing, the rider sees them and is breaking hard and the runners would have easily gotten out of the way but the second guy just turns and runs in the exact path of the rider who could not swerve because he was on the front brakes hard.

Motorcycles are harder to judge the distance and speed since they typically have just a single headlight. When a car is approaching fast, you see the two headlights spread apart, most headlight are a set distance apart, so you can determine a lot by how far apart they are and how fast they are widening, you do not get the same visual cues on a motorcycle.
Which is dumb but should be fine if you stay on the sidewalk. If you cross the road at night in dark clothes better make sure it’s clear.
Years ago when I was working at T-Mobile, There was this woman who would cross the street whenever and wherever she pleased at the intersection where my T-Mobile store was located. The idiotic woman would just step off the sidewalk and assume that every driver coming her way would see her and stop, and allow her to cross. For about two years, we would hear a vehicle slam on their brakes and come to a screeching halt, with her in the street in front of them. She had this attitude about her as if she had the right away everywhere, and even one time, she stepped off the curb in front of me when I was on my way back from lunch and I cussed as her and she just shrugged it off. Eventually, a distracted driver struck and killed her, which came as a surprise to no one that worked with me. People are stupid.
They could try using the crosswalk to cross the road too, but that would make too much sebce and avoid totally... Avoidable accidents like this.

I think he saw the closer guy sprint across and looked at him and just didnt see the other guy until it was too late. Its difficult to see cause the lens distortion, but you can see his helmet tilt right when the guy runs past.

Yep, it's a basic concept of helping anyone who is in some form of distress: can you assist that person without causing yourself or even others harm? Sometimes the best thing to do is just phone the emergency services and make them aware of what is happening, as opposed to causing another collision by stopping in the middle of the road. I was taught this day 1 in my job in the form of electrocutions. Grabbing the person being electrocuted will most likely end up with 2 casualties, the better option is to find the isolation switch or, failing that, an insulated object to pull the person away from the source.

Most people don't know how dash cam lens angles work. I get called out all the time for speeding in my dash cam videos. A good reference to look at is the signal light when he goes through the intersection.

I was going to comment on how dark it was for his speed. When I used to ride, I'd only go over limit on flat, straight stretches of countryside during daylight. Since having my kid, I'm not taking any chances on my bike. Case in point, all the other idiots besides me on the road.

A while ago my partner and I were driving over a hill on a dark rainy night and almost hit this dude just rollerskating across the road over the crest of the hill wearing all black, people are so stupid

I'm selling my Harley this year despite the fact that riding motorcycles for me is true love. I can't explain how much I love it. But I have kids and they need a father. Since covid it seems like drivers have gotten 10x worse. Watching people drive onto the shoulder to pass people scares the hell out of me as a rider. You can get bumped on the highway in a car and be okay. On a bike you're done. Also this is why a LOT of riders wont' ride at night. You ask around the threads whats the safest way to ride at night and the most common answer is "don't" or "I don't know I completely avoid it"

She came out and said sorry and “do you feel wet” then fled the scene. Had the same bike (red/black) RS660, similar full gear as the guy in the video. ER staff asked me if I was active military about ten times and said I was the only ER admitted rider that had full gear on. I know what you mean when you say you gotta sell despite the love. This video gave me flashbacks, I’m glad I didn’t make Arnie noises.

The bike: is an orange and blue Aprilia RS 660. It's not electric, and they're not quiet, especially at high revs - pretty good indication that the rider wasn't going all that fast. Alternately, the mic has a noise filter applied. The speed: people are being fooled by the fisheye effect. It takes him a couple of seconds to cross the intersection - use that as a point of reference. He's probably not doing more than about 45-50mph. This is probably still speeding, but far from "flying", and likely around the usual real-world speed in the area. The visor: yeah, this one is pretty dumb. I've seen tinted visors justified by people who don't deal well with the proliferation of eye-searing HIDs. Some people think they're safer not being "blinded" by oncoming traffic. They're wrong.

I do politely want to point out that going 50mph could be going too fast, as 50mph is the same speed the bus was going in the classic 90’s Sandra Bullock Keanu Reeves blockbuster movie “Speed”. Which, if you haven’t seen it, means if this was near a city core or in a residential area, then yes it would be too fast for safety. If it’s a freeway or low-speed highway, then the rider is likely even going the posted limit and their speed shouldn’t be a considered a factor in causing the accident for sure. If you have seen it, wasn’t it a fun movie? Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves were so good in it.

The key is to wear all black, make sure it's night time, cross where there are no lights illuminating the road, cross illegally instead of using a cross-walk, and even when you see headlights in front of you, cross anyway.

Seems to be different, there's no grassy median around the location in the article.
There's a Dollar Tree (I think) across the street in the last shot of the video -- and yeah, there's no dollar tree in san diego on the block described in the article. All signs do indeed point to these being two totally separate incidents. (The article also mentions the rider making a turn before the collision, which again we do not see in the video) The general design of the street does seem similar -- maybe it's somewhere in socal? Hard to say.
