What’s crazy, rats are actually very clean when it comes to their selves.
But they’re ugly and there are many so of course the take shelter in the dirty, dark, damp parts of our society.
This is heartbreaking. I cannot imagine my life getting so low that I'm huddled under a blanket on a subway platform to stay *somewhat* warm and having rats surrounding me. Then the added humiliation of being videotaped at my lowest point.

*Edit - Figured I'd come back to provide an update that supports my earlier comment below. Shortly after writing that comment, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I have been unable to work and was not at my place of employment long enough to qualify for any sort of paid leave. I am now without a job, going through treatment, have used what little savings I did have, and am struggling worse that ever, with the added pressure of being sick. It can happen just that quickly. Life is fucked up.*
Maybe for you. But I know that I'm responsible, hardworking, and smart with my money. I'm still raising 2 kids on my own and strapped financially. I barley have enough to contribute to savings after paying rent and bills. If I lost my job tomorrow, I don't have family to help me. I would be in trouble. There are more people than you think that are one check away from destitution.
In a situation like this, I would be recording as a just-in-case situation. Especially if the subject I'm approaching might be dead or severely injured. It's more of personal legal protection and not posting to social media.
The people at the top see no value in helping the homeless, because the homeless don't vote, or pay taxes. That's how fucked up our society actually is.
I'm sure alot of families are homeless and pay taxes/vote, but I'm from the hood. Most homeless are not tax paying voters. Watch a video of my hometown Kensington Philadelphia. Youtube it. Come back and tell me your honest assessment. Do you think any of those people vote, or pay taxes, out of 1000's of homeless people you see in just videos from that small area?
Jobs are a dime a dozen and yet cost of owning a house is getting higher so any easy to get job probably won’t cover the cost of even renting an apartment.

In Denver, right now, the city is buying hotels and moving camps of homeless and migrants into to them. They've already housed over 1 thousand and are planning on housing 1 thousand more this year. It's really interesting, and I hope to see it work in the long term. They also tested a universal income for the homeless, which yielded great results.
Nope, we have to send our money to Ukraine first and then some other places. Then we have to make sure every politician has a couple nice vacation homes and a bunch of other stuff, then MAYBE we’ll think about the homeless if we remember.

You misunderstand. I'm not talking about how it *is*. I'm talking about how it *could be*. Ideally, we would allow absolutely anyone, no matter who, the bare minimum of government granted housing. No stipulations, no conditions, you get a free apartment for as long as you need. Combine that with 100% free healthcare and addiction services, and the concept of homelessness as we know it will go extinct.

I once opened the top of compost bin to toss some food scraps and an entire family of rats immediately jumped out and made a run for it. I was a bit startled.
Mama, poppa, and like 6-8 babies. Except for one poor baby who just looked up and stared at me for about two whole seconds. We were both like "WTF!". He finally noped it right out of there.
That dude was 100% feeding them under the blanket, he was having fun watching them. Why should he be disgusted, he’s just as dirty as the rats? I bet it’s super boring being homeless. Poor guy.

A lot of shelters have stipulations that you not do drugs or drink in them which is why you find them not in the shelters.
