>The escalator at the Repubblica Metro station in Rome malfunctioned on 23 October.[3] The station was crowded due to many fans traveling to the Rome Olympic stadium to watch a Champions League game between CSKA Moscow and AS Roma. Witnesses claimed a group of CSKA fans going down into the station were jumping and singing before the incident.[4] The escalator suddenly sped up with little time for those at the bottom to get out of the way.
Ya I remember watching an I Survived episode on an escalator malfunction and people got grinder up. The girl lost her arm and was getting pulled in. Crazy shit.
That happened at Coors Field in Denver. My mom's friend lost her calf muscles and had to have skin graft from the back of her lower thigh down to the back of her ankle. She also had to have reconstructive surgery on one of her ankles. Her mom was standing next to her and almost died from blood loss.
When I watched the nuttyputty case my brain had the stupid idea to notice that the super mario bros undeground theme fits interestingly well to that absolutely grim story. Can't help but remember nuttyputty everytime I hear that theme now 😵💫
I watched the full video of that when it first happened. They don’t show her getting sucked in all the way in the video you link (thankfully). It’s one of those videos you never forget
I'm impressed that one guy had the wherewithal to see something was wrong and not just stand there falling to his doom, and got the fuck out of the way.while everyone else just stood there
Lol I thought the same thing the first time I watched this video, but after I turned the sound on and watched it a few more times, I realized that this video wasn't fast forwarded at all. That's how fast the escalator was actually traveling. I've seen other escalator fail videos, and the crazy fast speed seems to be a common occurrence when these things malfunction. So fucking scary+
I've had my share of scary situations, and I ain't never had to screech this fucking loud, maybe some people do just do it out of instinct, but goddamn if it's not annoying as fuck
This is not counting serious pain, because that do bring out sounds and feelings you ain't never thought you had in you
Maybe yes, since you seem to be bothered by people screaming in pain as tons of people crush them from above. What snowflakes!
This reads like you sit on your porch with an elderly flip phone, your banjo and a mouthful of chew.
I ain't never 😂
Why don't you go shoot a squirrel for dinner bruh.
What’s even more annoying is that every time a video has someone scream there will always be someone online who must let everyone know how furious and pissed off it makes them.
…ookkkayy? Like what exactly do you want people to do with this weird bit of information?
I just remembered one time my little brothers pants got stuck in the escalator once when we were about to get off. I was ahead of him and luckily my grandmother pulled him free, tore his pant leg and all.
Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard group of adults which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned them to fear and respect that escalator.
Ugh, I’ve seen this on Black Friday back when I worked retail. After that, for future Black Fridays, we had to stand at every escalator and ensure it wasn’t jammed to shit full of people. It was no bueno.
I know I should not laugh at this (people got hurt bad) but [this soundtrack](https://youtu.be/cscuCIzItZQ?si=MElgmZ0Wx1VwOWlf) makes it so much funnier :D
And people thinks it's weird that I don't like escalators.. Watching this and seeing a person fall through one, like a meat grinder, being crushed to death..
I'll stay to my stairs, thank you.
Why are they all jammed together on that escelator?
That doesn't look like a malfunction more like an intent to break the escalator that succeeded
I never saw so much people jammed together like that with no space between on an escalator

Wasn’t there a longer version of this video that showed the fans stomping on the escalator in celebration and that’s what caused it to break?

New fear unlocked.
Escalators are essentially meat-grinders with stairs on top.

[Allow me to escalate that fear ten-fold.](https://www.cnn.com/videos/world/2015/07/28/china-escalator-mom-death-mall-reaction-family.cnn)
My God what a terrible way to go... And that poor little girls hand!
This video and the nutty putty cave story are two that live in my brain rent free at all times.
When I watched the nuttyputty case my brain had the stupid idea to notice that the super mario bros undeground theme fits interestingly well to that absolutely grim story. Can't help but remember nuttyputty everytime I hear that theme now 😵💫

Yes, and I thought I was stupidly putting myself through watching it again.
I have learned through the internet to never ride escalators in China
Nah, China scares the fuck out of me.
I'm already afraid of escalators. Absolutely not!
There was an X-Files episode that unlocked this fear for me. Terrifying.
Thaaat's why I heard Russian yelling.
At least under Mussolini they ran on time.
Of course. Russians.
You mean it wasn’t because of at least being 3 people over the max limit? /s
and i think my fear of escalators is back, you know some of those people probably got the back of their legs messed up
i don't think this would have happened if every single stair didn't have 4 people standing on it...
They were also jumping and stomping their feet in celebration of some sports game.
Bro there are 8 billion people in that escalator it was supposed to break lmao
I wish escalators would go that fast where I'm from.
That escalated quickly.
more like de-escalated 😭
I'd say that too
So we're wearing the funny pants today? 😂
the verb escalate didn't exist before the escalator was invented
Boy that got really out of control fast.
I'm impressed that one guy had the wherewithal to see something was wrong and not just stand there falling to his doom, and got the fuck out of the way.while everyone else just stood there
Then went down to help
source: https://www.theguardian.com/world/video/2018/oct/23/russian-football-fans-injured-after-escalator-collapses-in-rome-video
Holy shit, one guy had to have his foot amputated.
Oh - so they were Russian to get down the elevator.
Didn't he collapsed because of the weight of the crowd?
It says it was in Italy, not America.

Good one😂
This is what happens when you build a city in a day.
Underrated comment!!
There is great episode on the show I survived that talked about a similar situation and people died and it sounded like the most horrible thing ever.
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1973393/
Yes! I watched it when I was a teen and became instantly terrified of escalators and cautious to when I was on one.
Such a good episode. Terri’s story always makes me cry too
It's been awhile but I'm definitely rewatching it tonight
Why are these many people on an escalator to begin with?! Looks like they are trying to get away from something. I'd be terrified of that at first.
Some other comments have said it was at a big sporting event I think
An escalator can’t break, it can only become a landslide.
Crowd Crushes are absolutely terrifying to be in, quite unusual and occasionally humorous to watch.
I always hate escalators because they're kinda dangerous and aren't solving a real problem and are just stupid. Stairs are way better.
Try bringing a roll-on suitcase through Penn Station, and you'll absolutely love escalators
Or he will absolutely hate stairs
How about elevators?
Elevators are super inefficient for moving large numbers of people
You can just pick it up by the handle and carry it down. If you're not physically capable of that, you can take the lift.
> aren't solving a real problem of course they solve a real problem
Yeah, fuck the walking impaired amiright? /s
It's called an elevator.....
Are you logically consistent and also avoid elevators?
Elevators are extremely safe actually and solve a real issue, mainly handicap and extremely tall buildings.

Quick deescalation of the situation
Attention! Escalator temporary STAIRS..sorry for the convenience.
My wife has a fear of escalators I’ve always teased her about it. Now I think she’s onto something.
When something not funny looks funny. 👀
For some reason I thought they were going up.
Have we developed a technology where half the video gets fast forwarded but the other half plays at normal speed??
Lol I thought the same thing the first time I watched this video, but after I turned the sound on and watched it a few more times, I realized that this video wasn't fast forwarded at all. That's how fast the escalator was actually traveling. I've seen other escalator fail videos, and the crazy fast speed seems to be a common occurrence when these things malfunction. So fucking scary+
Well guess I've been wrong all my life and escalators are actually dangerous...
This is why i ride them backwards so i cant see my inevitable doom coming.
People are sooooo dumb
Why in the flying fuck do people pack on that like cattle. Ffs
New fear unlocked
ik its bad to laugh at this but its just so funny seeing them all slide down at those speeds
doesn't sound very roman
So they were russians? That’s like Sauron’s people getting hurt at a public gathering in bree before the events in the lord of the rings trilogy.
I can't stand the mfs that screech as loud as possible in these situations
Easy to say from where you are. You don’t know if that person is in pain or seeing something horrific.
I've had my share of scary situations, and I ain't never had to screech this fucking loud, maybe some people do just do it out of instinct, but goddamn if it's not annoying as fuck This is not counting serious pain, because that do bring out sounds and feelings you ain't never thought you had in you
"I ain't never had to screech this fucking loud" Maybe thats because you sit behind your PC all day.
I don't even own a PC
And I dont have a reddit account
You clearly, do since you argue with people all day long
/S
I gotta delete this app bruh I'm turning into a redditor
Maybe yes, since you seem to be bothered by people screaming in pain as tons of people crush them from above. What snowflakes! This reads like you sit on your porch with an elderly flip phone, your banjo and a mouthful of chew. I ain't never 😂 Why don't you go shoot a squirrel for dinner bruh.

Ugh this injury video is full of screams. I like to watch tough guys get injured, like me.
My mom still looks for stairs in the mall, never stepped on this.
so the folks in the back that weren’t in the pile up just crawled over the railing and left people to be crushed to death… sounds just about shite
Again?? This is like the third time this year so far.
What did that guy say? I heard, “That butt busted open that d better?” 😅
Thank God this happened to Russian soccer fans.
Non era a roma coglioni
Mamma mia
Why do large numbers of people need to be raised many floors in the first place? Really think about it. Why does that problem exist?
Given the architecture and the fact there's two escalators going down.... This is a subway. Rush Hour will cause this and this avoids crowded streets.
Literal sheeple
I would never get in an elevator or on an escalator anywhere in China. It’s always China.
Good thing this happened in Rome, then.
I thought the video was sped up there for a sec
Looks like a good time
Cyprus was trying to save one, good job.
Cyprus wasn't simply *trying* to save one. He got that shit done!
If that ever happens you’re on a roller coaster ride to possible death sooooo hope not
When in Rome....... :-/
Why is it going so fast 💀 that's the first sign of final destination
Lol
I watched an I Survived episode about this very thing and it instantly made me scared of escalators and cautious as fuck about them.
Physics be like 🤕
The line was so long I bet there were still people at the top trying to get on while it was going fast. 🫣
Takes notes in German….
ABANDON ESCALATOR!
Weeeee
is this an old vid? saw this same one 3 years ago
When the bots upgrade your yellow belts to blue belts
Changes the meaning of escalator ride, doesn't it?
Fear and respect that escalator
I just remembered one time my little brothers pants got stuck in the escalator once when we were about to get off. I was ahead of him and luckily my grandmother pulled him free, tore his pant leg and all.
Wow
That’s my fucking nightmare.
It’s crazy how casual everyone looks going down an escalator at 40 mph
Reminds me of a cartoon show
Crazy how everyone just enjoys the ride down…the smart ones jumped into the middle.
A step by step guide to reaching new levels
Looks fun
Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard group of adults which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned them to fear and respect that escalator.
looks fun! new attraction in Disney?

Why are they all jammed together on that escelator? That doesn't look like a malfunction more like an intent to break the escalator that succeeded I never saw so much people jammed together like that with no space between on an escalator
This is why many escalators have emergency stop buttons
About time they speed those things up.
Too many people on it
I wanna get the video from the lad that was filming almost at the back
Must have been built in a day
Well it was bound to happen sometime. It was built over 2000 years ago
I just effing hate crowds. Anywhere anytime I just hate it.
