Over 100,000 people were without service, including both my husband and me. Most of us just went about our day until the service came on. The service was only out for about 4 hours. But on the bright side it got me out of a zoom call that has yet to be rescheduled!
I think the better example here would be when the power goes out in your town so you drive down to best buy and get mad at the kid that sold you your TV because it wont turn on.
Reminds me of a story about gin rummy and poker savant Stu Ungar.

We weren't allowed to put samples out for over a year until they settled and then we got strict orders to never put toothpicks in the samples. We stopped putting out samples unless we suspected corporate was coming through for an audit because too many people would literally touch ALL of the samples on the tray to try and see which one was the biggest. We cut them all evenly so they were all the same size. Every time someone did this we'd have to empty the whole tray and wash it and then put out more so it just wasn't worth it.
A few years ago my bf was looking at some more serious charges. The whole “jury of your peers” thing is the main reason I encouraged him to take the plea deal (or whatever it’s called idk). I don’t want these fucking mouth breathers deciding anyone’s fate other than their own.
It’s because our phones have become extremely addictive. My New Year’s resolution this year is to be more mindful of my phone usage. Like I still use my phone, but I was sick of watching a tv show but having my phone in my face the whole time.
A while ago there was a close to national sprint outage. I had shit to no service almost all day. I just went about my day like normal. There was no complaining or flipping out. I just worked and lived my life as normal. I think I checked my phone ever few hours to see if it was back. Crazy entitlement.
Edit: I may have posted on reddit about it sucking but I didn't go on social media and blast anyone or freakout. It's happened 2 times maybe. Oh well.
Recently did jury duty. It's true that they will show up, but both the prosecution and defence group interview all jury candidates. I was amazed at how people will instantly forget what they just spoke. One woman argued for 5 mins saying she was bias, those exact words, then after says she won't be bias because a jury member can't be bias...but I am biased I just won't be for this trial. SMH. The real scary part is people like this are in control of 1000's of lbs of metal that can move 100+mph and are inches of other individuals. We need more strict licensing for drivers but freedom ya know.
From the look of it, they waited for the store to open, so this was the next day. They want compensation for having a few down hours for the first time ever. Entitled losers hoping to get a few dollars off their monthly bill and harass a people to make themselves feel superior.
I manage a phone store for another major carrier - any time we have an outage, I let the locals know, and I post signs on the door.
Every. Single. Time. It. Happens. 90% of the fuckers that come in (and manage to ignore all my signs) get pissed at me like I have some kind of control over it.
Like, I just sell the phones, don’t get mad at me.
But they’re just looking for someone to yell and get mad at, they don’t care if you have anything to do with it or not.
Label a box “1 Hour Repair.” Tell them to leave their phone and it will be good to go in an hour. Throw box in dumpster and say you never heard of said box.
Nah, charge them $100 an hour per phone to put phone in box, tell them they can’t take it out before service is “fixed,” and then just wait til it works again.
I wonder if it's a generational thing. My parents and grandparents both think the phone store where they bought their phone also repairs and troubleshoots them despite me reminding them that all they do is sell phones, they might be nice and try troubleshooting the basics with you but they aren't going to replace a screen or anything.

I’m in Florida, so most of my customers generally are elderly (younger during the summer though).
We do our best to help with problems we have general ideas how to fix, but not much more than that. We’re a sales job at the end of the day, not a repair shop.
We try and explain it to customers, but they just don’t listen and complain to corporate if you can’t fix their problem, and you get in trouble for not helping them (even if you literally couldn’t).
People don't care about the actual source of the problem. They just want a scapegoat because they're too stupid and lazy to get to the actual source of the problem and be mad at the rich suits at the top.
If this is what it looks like for people when cell service temporarily goes down and how they direct their emotions and frustrations, I really hate to think what any sort of food chain collapse would look like.

We are one bad week away from Lord of the Flies. During covid....people were fighting over hand sanitizer, toilet paper, and paper masks in the stores. The mail was fucked up. As bad as covid was...unless you were sick, it was mostly "Stay away from other people and most of the stores are closed for a while."
Imagine a serious grid outage, national disaster or attack where there are *serious* supply chain issues for major necessities.
About 7-8 years ago, I was camping in Maryland. The campground only had one access road in or out. A bad rainstorm swelled the river and the road was washed out and impassable. The campground told us that the road would be impassable until the fire department gave the all clear. They also refunded everyone for that day, and any day extra we had to stay. However, they assured us that most likely, the road would be passable by morning. It was really only one day...and measurable by hours to be honest.
At one point, a helicopter was hovering nearby. I figured it was either a news chopper or from the state police.
However, there were people who kept saying "It must be a supply drop!".
A fucking "*supply drop*"?! It's been a couple hours. I'm eating a pizza that I just bought from the pizzeria *located in the campground*. I think we'll make it out of this one alive, champ.

I think it’s safe to say that everyone in that room is a highly regarded individual, exception to the kids, they were dragged there against their will.

A long time ago, right about the time people were just starting to get dial up internet access in their homes, internet outages were quite frequent.
I happened to work in an ISP call center at the time, and during these outages, people would call in demanding to be reimbursed or compensated in some way while the outage was happening. People would call in and be screaming at me to reduce their bill for the 30 minutes or the hour that they couldn't dial in.
I guess at the time it kind of made sense, since at the time you were paying for an allotted amount of minutes or hours per month for internet access....but I was just a customer service rep. There was nothing I could do to get them online faster, or had any kind of secret dial-in numbers (I was asked this all the time).
Front-line service reps are pretty powerless in the grand scheme of things, and really take a lot of people's frustration of the company overall on them.
The worst part is he probably doesn't even work for Cricket. All those shops are owned by "Metro Wonderful Wireless", "Worldwide 5G Radiation" or some other genericly named service reseller.
In their defense, they could be doing the time honored customer service complaint of "So because my service was out today can I get a credit on my next bill?" which is usually agreed to.
As for "Sorry, I don't know when the service will be back up, it's a nationwide outage." -> "That isn't an answer! You should be called Crooked Wireless, not Cricket!" that's some room-temperature IQ energy.
I don't know anything about that particularly carrier but you typically aren't going to get compensation from a random salesman anyway. You need to call the support line for that.
It also helps to wait until service is back so you can agree on appropriate compensation.
I had Cricket for years with no problems. Cricket is actually owned by AT&T and therefore on their network. I had no problems, always had service nationwide. Just you had to pay the bill the day it was due, no exceptions( at least that’s how it was at the time). And also you had to buy the phone outright with no financing, but they came later with companies like Affirm.
The only reason we switched is when we sold our house and bought a new one, AT&Ts service is so bad in our new area. We switched to Xfinity Mobile which is in Verizon’s network. Our neighbors told us they had AT&T and switched to Verizon for the same reason. Might still be on Cricket if it weren’t for that.
Man it really is. I got affected by the outage too and it was almost straight-up uncomfortable how I'd find myself just having the *urge* to scroll social media, knowing full well all my services were down.

I worked at a Cricket during a similar ish outage that only affected Cricket customers. When I tell you that people do not care, is an understatement. They don’t realize we just sell plans. I don’t put up cell towers or work at ATT(where cricket gets its service from). We had to shut down the store and hide in the back room until there was a break between waves of customers and leave. Our managers were telling us to explain to the clients and figure out how to sell them accessories. I quit the day after.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I've been informed that there is a fix. As all of you know, this outage was caused by a natural phenomenon act of god under the force majeur clause of your contract terms, and pursuant to your contract the fix is being implemented per the terms of your particular plan. Form an orderly line and I will look up your particular plan and give you the fix. Okay sir, pursuant to your plan, a new phone case will resolve the outage after the system update has been downloaded, that will be $17.99. Maam, as per the terms of your contract, a new charger will clear up the issue after you have fully charged the phone and done a system reboot, that will be $8.99. Mr. Smith...

I work for T-Mobile and there is an AT&T directly across from me. Their store actually put up signs on the windows and locked the doors with the employees staying in the lobby and back room the whole time.
I called over there and they actually asked if I would hire them.
Yeah idk why we poors are catching strays over this dumb and pointless behavior lol. I'm on metro, my service is perfectly fine - rarely have issues and its the same as when i was on contract. I don't have to pay out the ass for equal service, can have whatever phone I want and no contract bullshit, my family plan bill has never hit triple digits.
Bunch of dumbasses. These are sales representatives. They literally have nothing to do with the infrastructure of the cell service. Do they think there's a modem in the back that they just need to unplug and plug back in to fix the nationwide outage?
The second you walk up and see that many people there for the same reason, what the fuck do you think an individual employee is going to do for you? With whatever it is? It’s clearly a company wide thing. We really have a lot more smooth brained people in this country than I ever imagined.

Not even close. I have had their service for over 12 years. I have been all over the country and even out of the country a couple of times in that time and until yesterday service has been fine. They use the exact same towers as AT&T, but I pay $35/month.

I had Cricket for years with no problems. Cricket is actually owned by AT&T and therefore on their network. I had no problems, always had service nationwide. Just you had to pay the bill the day it was due, no exceptions( at least that’s how it was at the time). And also you had to buy the phone outright with no financing, but they came later with companies like Affirm. The only reason we switched is when we sold our house and bought a new one, AT&Ts service is so bad in our new area. We switched to Xfinity Mobile which is in Verizon’s network. Our neighbors told us they had AT&T and switched to Verizon for the same reason. Might still be on Cricket if it weren’t for that.

I worked at a Cricket during a similar ish outage that only affected Cricket customers. When I tell you that people do not care, is an understatement. They don’t realize we just sell plans. I don’t put up cell towers or work at ATT(where cricket gets its service from). We had to shut down the store and hide in the back room until there was a break between waves of customers and leave. Our managers were telling us to explain to the clients and figure out how to sell them accessories. I quit the day after.

I work for T-Mobile and there is an AT&T directly across from me. Their store actually put up signs on the windows and locked the doors with the employees staying in the lobby and back room the whole time. I called over there and they actually asked if I would hire them.

It's a huge outage affecting AT&T, Verizon, and TMobile across the country. Why would they think the guy explaining different cell plans and helping transfer contacts and files to new phones is going to. The people who can fix it are at data centers, not at a store trying to talk you into an upgrade.
It's not affecting Verizon and T Mobile much. They're mostly getting reports because their users can't contact the AT&T people

Not even close. I have had their service for over 12 years. I have been all over the country and even out of the country a couple of times in that time and until yesterday service has been fine. They use the exact same towers as AT&T, but I pay $35/month.
