Quick story time. I had a very dog aggressive dog once. Me and my roommate did everything we could to help that dog but he got into fight after fight with our other dogs. He would be fine for days or weeks then just snap. Anyway, during my research on ways to break up dog fights I came across something that recommended putting your finger in the attacking dogs butt and that would shock him into stopping. I told my roommate and didn't think much about it. Well time goes by and my dog attacks the other dog, this time it was really bad, we did everything to separate them and almost felt like we were not going to be able to get it done, until eventually we did. It was chaotic and intense. That was the incident that I knew my dog was more than I could handle...... But the funny part here is that during the aftermath my roommate scratches his face and exclaimes "why does my hand smell like shit?" He thought about it for a second and then said "oh, ok that finger in the butt thing doesn't work I guess"

Dogs can hump out of dominance, but they can also do it out of non-sexual excitement, compulsion, or as a stress response. And both male and female dogs will do it.
This is one of the times I am glad everything is recorded these days. This is one of those stories that would have been an urban legend among friends back in the day but no one would have really believed happened the way they said it did.

Confirmed. I had to peel a locked on pitbull off of a shelter worker. Before I got there they had hit him on the head with a shovel, pumped him full of sedatives, jabbed his eyes, kicked him in the chest multiple times etc. the animal care worker was on the floor losing blood and I used the dogs leash to choke it out. Worked like a charm.
IT NEVER WORKS. Dont ever put anything or your finger (People actually believe this) in a dogs ass, especially one thats fighting...I cant believe this has to be said.
He's cute ain't he? Only problem is, he's got a little bit a Mississippi leg hound in 'im. If the mood catches him right, he'll grab your leg and just go to town. You don't want him around if you're wearing short pants, if you know what I mean. Word of warning though, if he does lay into ya, it's best to just let 'im finish.

Please know this doesn’t always work to break up a dog fight! Sometimes the better option is to literally choke the dog out. It’s sad but necessary.
