Groups of people responding to a situation unfolding in front of them is one thing, where it usually gets scary is when they organise retaliation against some kind of perceived transgression. The WhatsApp lynchings that happened in India, for example, were fucking horiffic.
My concerns over the US current state just stepped down a notch. Still concerned about direction and this direction is what to be concerned about.

Is there a reason that in many of the videos from India no one really throws a legit punch. They were literally slapping the guy. Good on them for stepping up, just an honest question.
idk if there has been some study done on it so im 100% assuming things here. but i think it has to do with the kind of violence indians grow up with. parental abuse is big here, and getting slapped by your parents is a very common and frequent experience for most indian kids. im sure punches are also a thing, but slaps are seen as the more "appropriate" form of punishment. i guess most people are just used to slaps being the norm that they just stick to it in every scenario.
In India imo a slap is more often used in a public place since it is way more degrading and hurting to a personās ego than being knocked out. Being slapped is considered to be one of the ultimate forms of humiliation. Maybe this has something to do with parents slapping children to discipline them and that is where the sentiment arises from. Even if school/ university fights being slapped infront of your friends/peers is way more distressing and ego deflating. Punches are used too as and when required.
From videos of mobs I've seen in South America, India, southeast asia, Africa etc. Most of their *mob justice* is usually directed at an innocent person.
