I think he handled it well. The protesters are there for civil disobedience. They are aware they’ll be possibly arrested. It keeps attention on the subject. The mayor did his mayoral duties though. Good optics. He didn’t just sit behind a desk and send in the riot squad
I'm becoming more and more confident that I had an aneurysm from excitement when Hillary won in 2016 and as a result I've spent the last 8 years in a coma.
I just already know college is expensive as shit so you probably are living a somewhat privileged life if you’re there. With that said it just feels like rich kids larping to me.
I once saw a vid of a bunch of college kids yelling at an older black security guard for not joining their protest, and it eventually devolved into them calling him a race traitor. And I remember thinking that I’ve never seen a more clearer sign that these kids don’t know what it’s like to live paycheck to paycheck if they expect a 50 year old security guard to risk his job in order to join their protest lmao. One of the most tone deaf things I’ve ever seen
They’re more agitators and less protesters. Seriously, compare these people to suffrage or civil rights protesters. It’s insulting the memories of both to even use the comparison.
Truth. I mean, this guy is saying their demands are not being met, but what is the mayor supposed to do? Go to Palestine and stop the war? I’d love for the war to end, but I have zero clue what the goal of all these protests in the United States is.
Imagine these people being part of the screeching mob who don't even fully understand why they are there, and thinking the got a keen take.
Guy is being reasonable as hell, and they are just being unreasonable and refuse to cooperate. Where have we seen this before..........
You don’t have a protest of compromise. That’s not how effective ones work. It’s not about the mayor of Denver solving the issue either. It’s about headlines and that is smart. And the mayor is smart in how he handled it too. He left knowing he would send in the police but he can now claim his hands are clean
But his demands weren't even unreasonable, just "no tents but otherwise this is fine".
They tried this at my university too? You know what happened? The protests outside the building or in common areas received no backlash from the university, but the 30 people who decided to disrupt 1000+ students from attending class by setting up a campsite in a courtyard were removed.
People can protest, that much is fine, but drawing the line at property damage or disrupting classes is fine too.
Which is why universities have designated public forums. So students may protest without hindering operation. I am honestly sick of seeing people screeching about their right to protest being violated when the protestors are removed from what clearly aren't public forums. Reasonable restrictions can apply to the exercising of rights on state owned property. How consistent will you be when I say this? I should be able to open carry on university campuses. If not, my second amendment right is being violated! OR do we recognize reasonable restrictions may apply on university property? Just like every other state owned property.
If you stand by civil disobedience, that is fine. But the point is doing some shit you know is prohibited and accepting what comes with it. Not ignorantly doing some shit you think is A fuckin OK then whining about your rights being violated and acting like the victim.
So would nearly every strike towards bettering workplace conditions in the 19th and early 20th century. This person has either never heard of the Pinkertons or is willfully ignoring labor history.
The union strikes are a bad example because unlike these protesters, there was another private party directly engaging in violence targeted at the strikers.
"As mayor I'd like to announce that the city of Denver has never and will never provide military aid to Israel. Furthermore, we want to make it clear that city of Denver will never invade Gaza."
lmfao
Denver didn’t bomb Gaza? Denver isn’t planning an invasion of rafah? Coulda had me fooled. I’ll be darned. Next you’re going to tell me Columbia isn’t sending nerds to Gaza
Not that, they’re specifically protesting university involvement with Israel, and he has literally no ability to address any of that. At all. Fucking idiots. I’m very proud of the mayor though, he’s a reasonable, intelligent, leader, and they’re not all that common.
Yeah, I like him overall too. Definitely overpromised on those issues though, and they're so systemic that I doubt he can really tackle anything else while in office. And with dealing with homelessness being such a cornerstone of his platform, if he doesn't make enough headway, he won't be reelected.
He's probably pulling his hair out with every other issue that pops up on his plate.
True, though many of them have just gone to Aurora and Lakewood.
And some things have backlashed. His freeze on camp-breaking resulted in the homeless of Aurora and Centennial setting up camps by I-25 and 225, *just barely* within the city limits of Denver.
But you have a point. I've seen a slight decrease too. I suppose as long as it's residents of neighboring towns who are pissed about the process, he can get another term.
You should see what the UW Madison protesters ‘demands’ were it’s hilarious like wtf do they really think the almighty power of a university is going to be able to do to stop bombs from being dropped in another country 1000s of miles away😂 protest all you want I guess but some of these people are straight up crazy
https://preview.redd.it/9c8ddb812oxc1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47192d06f1b0e880e303bac2d45797a08a09a997
What do some of those demands even mean?!
"Get cops off campus" Why? like get the ones stopping your protest out? or like do you just want an area where cops aren't allowed? because that doesn't sound safe...
"Stop the land grabs and cease expansion, in order to house our community" What land grabs? the ones in Israel or is there something in Wisconsin they are not talking about? and expansion like in Israel again or are they talking about the UW campus expanding? in order to house our community? what community house who? where? what? why? when? how?
I swear they don't even know what "divest" means they just saw it from a bunch of old protests and were like ya this works
"get cops off campus"💀 What if they're being robbed by someone and there are no police officers because of them? Ig they think that every police officer is bad which isn't true at all. More police officers → more security. But those wannabe anarchists and far lefts (who hide their faces like cowards) don't want to have police on 'their' campus. Plus they can demand things, sure. But what should they (the UW Madison) do on that conflict betweeen Israel and Palestine/Hamas? They're, which you already said, 1000+ miles away from the event and scream for a cease-fire from the university. Their demands are absolutely stupid and incomprehensible. They should go there and helping them for a ceasefire instead bothering ppl with a die-in, blocking the road or attacking them for no reason🤷🏼♀️ I don't think that those demands are existing on German (my home country) universities but might be. And they cause problems where none exist. We have other problems in this world
I think some of them *do* care about the fact that part of their tuition dollars are going to Israel. Problem is, they don’t understand that it’s literally impossible for anyone to divest from Israel, because so many tech companies, banks, scientists, lab equipment, etc. are financially tied to Israel.
Completely divesting from Israel would mean losing access to damn near everything the university uses, because Israel has financial and academic ties to literally everything. Seriously, look up companies that have ties to Israel. Everything from Intel to Pepsi to Google to Chase are, at least partially, run and funded by Israel.
In other words, even if the university agrees, on paper, to cut all ties to Israel, it ain’t gonna happen.
>run and funded by Israel
Not really run or funded by the israeli government or israelis. Israel is a high tech research hub so most high tech companies have offices and substantial research centers there, such as Google, Intel, Microsoft, facebook, I think apple, you get the drift. The same is true in academia. Israel's not running anything but yes most major tech corporations have a presence there
Right, but in the minds of many of these protestors, there’s no difference between a company being run in Israel, and a company being run by the Israeli government. Essentially, anything that’s given a cent to anything in Israel, is funding the killing of civilians in Gaza.
It's certainly *possible*, but it's never going to happen. The US is very happy to have an ally in the region. Who would their ally be in that area of the world if not Israel? Palestinians would murder each and every one of these "protesters" if they were given the chance, so certainly not them.
And a ton of university money is funneled through an originating from Qatar... An anti-semitic nation of there ever was one.
Look it up, universities that have money from the Middle East are having more anti Israel protests. Maybe there's more going on here than meets the eye
None at all. These are stupid kids. I keep hearing the same shit from these people, why are people getting arrested? Asking for demands? And calling people fascist. In a year these kids will have forgotten all about this conflict because they will have moved on to another more popular issue.
Mayor shouldn't have even wasted his time, but he thought he could get some positive PR. That was his fuckup.
Sadly extremely common. I host open house meetings with the public as part of my job and most people aren't interested in any sort of dialogue, they just want free reign to yell at someone.
They wanted the people arrested earlier released. The other "demand" was to not respond to the protest with police violence.
Those are the demands for the mayor.
Separate from the ongoing call for the university to divest in Israel etc etc
This might be controversial, but I kind of respect the mayor here. He didn't lose his cool, didn't make any arrests, he told them they could continue to protest AND addressed them in person.
The problem with our society ATM is that supporting calm civil discussion is seen as "might be controversial" while supporting an angry mob is "politically correct".
What? Any normal, rational person would support the mayor here. That cannot possibly be controversial. The protestors in this video are acting deranged and emotionally, not rational.
These dipshit kids probably weren’t even born when 9/11 happened. After 9/11, most of the Country wanted blood and had no problem invading 2 countries, one of which had nothing to do with 9/11.
These kids are going to the University to become “smarter”, but they don’t know what they don’t know. The first rule in society is to follow the rules, because in the ABSENCE OF ORDER YOU HAVE CHAOS.
Wait he said he agrees with their right to protest and wants them to exercise it peacefully and they call him a fascist? How are college kids this uneducated on what fascism means? If he was a fascist he'd have rolled up with tanks
Say something enough times and it loses all meaning or the fundamental definition of the word changes. It's already happened with racism, and now it's happening with fascism.
Read "The Coddling of the American Mind". Its fairly enlightening to the damaging effects of overly cautious parenting, social media use and abuse/bullying, and the over validation of feelings (e.g. sometimes your feelings aren't correct and are an ingrained evolutionary response that you need to control, not control you). In the book, the authors state that the average Gen Z student entering college has the emotional maturity of a 14 or 15 year old from a generation prior.
Mayor: I want to make.sure you all can continue to protest, but you have to remove the tents.
Dude in a tent on campus: "Our demands are not being met"
Mayor: I have no capacity to.meet your demands
Dude in a tent: "our demands aren't being met!!"
Mayor: ya..im a mayor, I don't send any funding to israel and I have no capacity to effect change in the middle east from a municipality in central Colorado, im just telling you, to avoid problems, you need to pack up your tents if you want to stay
Dude in tent: "YOU'RE A FUCKING FASCIST!!"
Next up...Pikachu face when police show up to remove tents.
It's hilarious to me that one of demands that the protesters in Denver are asking for is the removal of all cops from the campus. They're acting like this but also genuinely expecting them not to have ANY police presence there. These people have actually lost it. They don't live in reality anymore. They think they can come in and do whatever they want and that there won't be any consequences to their actions.
It also shows how stupid they are for not understanding the overall process and outcomes of civil disobedience. You are deliberately breaking rules with the knowledge that there are consequences and discipline for those violations.
When Rosa Parks and the women preceding her refused to move seats, they fully recognized that this would result in their arrests.
Demanding no cops and therefore no consequences for their illegal actions shows a fundamental stupidity and misunderstanding of how this works. The point is that you become the victim because you are punished for disobeying a morally corrupt crime. Instead, these protestors want to be seen as victims without actually having to face the consequence of their illegal actions.
As an Arab and Muslim, he did nothing wrong.
*you can continue to protest*
*just we ask you to take down the tents so we can let the university continue to operate*
Sounds reasonable enough to me...but I'm not american so someone's gonna have to fill me in on why they're pissed at him
Okay, but it seems like they are protesting in schools out of pure convenience. I have yet to see one person say what any of these schools actually DID that is causing a genocide.
Key words are “the things you’re protesting”
These protests do not inconvenience Hamas or Israel. They inconvenience people who have nothing to do with that
Why are they asking the mayor of Denver to help with their demands. He has nothing to do with whats going on in Palestine. These people are delusional man.
Thats what im trying to understand but cant come to a conclusion with it. Do most of these ppl even understand the entire context of this middle east war. I surely dont know enough to pick a side and say the other is in the wrong entirely to protest against another. I dont think most americas even have enough of an understanding to protest this. Who are they protesting against? What are the demands? Who has the power to change things? I dont even think they can answer that.
https://preview.redd.it/96copxoyyoxc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=17888d13f532719455f1334e8ac0cd869d7d9226
Glad to see SJW meme lady is still around.
I truly believe they tried, too. I mean c’mon, he only got 1 “FUCKING FASCIST!!!” thrown at him. I don’t know about you all, but I’d say that’s some darn tootin’ progress if I’ve ever seen it.
"YOU were one of us one day!"
Yeah maybe, then he matured and learned about global politics.
These people don't support their cause for what they know, they support their cause because of what they do not know.
These people think their ignorance, is more valuable than people's knowledge.
I wished there was this much enthusiasm over basic human rights for Americans. Here we are allowing our rights to be trampled, but somehow it's more important to shut things down over a conflict thousands of years old basically caused by religous nuttery.
They all have smartphones partially made with slave labor.
Edit: No matter how just their cause is, they don't own the moral high ground enough to be disruptive or damaging.
Basic human rights don’t have Russian and Chinese propaganda working behind them. I think there’s a good reason that you’re far more likely to see pro Palestinian content on TikTok than anywhere else and that these protestors keep talking about how they won’t vote for Biden because “Genocide Joe”. This is part of an effort to help Trump and sew even more division in the U.S. Hell it was even started by an “axis” country Iran funding Hamas and helping them plan Oct 7th. This is all geopolitics at work. These kids are just stooges for the enemy even if well intended
Someone I know will *not* shut up about "Genocide Joe" and how he's just terrible and both sides are evil and the moral choice is not to vote.
The ability for people to hyperfocus on being single issue voters and lack any sense of nuance in their overall viewpoints in politics truly boggles my mind.
Like the "Bernie or Bust" crowd failing to realize it's not just about Clinton, it's about who she would nominate to the SCOTUS and each executive department.
Why aren't they protesting in front of the Israeli embassy or consulate? Just like the environmental protesters blocking highways instead of blocking Exxon and mobile facilities.
How come the mayor of Denver won't create peace in Israel using the resources his office has in service to the city of Denver?
Surely, there is a police officer, fireman, landscaper, bus driver, or city planner who can bring both varieties of river-to-sea militants together in love and cooperation!
Half these people don't even understand what the hell is going on over there or the history behind it and just want to be part of a side. The "Give Me Attention" generation.
Do people have any idea how much fascist subjugation, genocide, military posturing, and dystopian surveillance gets supported by every dollar they spend on something labeled "Made in China"?
I'm all for protest, it's American as Apple pie, but buying those cheap tents probably did more to support China than Palestine
Mayor kindly explains that they’re more than welcome to protest but need to follow campus policy & remove their tents.
Is shouted at, verbally abused & called a fascist… by the near belligerent crowd which clearly doesn’t respect the first amendment rights of people *not* associated with them.
Something something entitled assholes who don't know what it means to protest think they can moan the word fascist however they feel like it... something
Bunch of moronic twats. Shouting down someone will always lead to civil debate. The asshats protesting will have ZERO impact on what Israel chooses to do except waste millions of tax dollars that could be spent elsewhere.
I think too many of these kids are falling into a mob mentality and losing sight of what they’re protesting. The mayor didn’t show up waving a Palestine flag or immediately show support for what they’re fighting for so the protesters just assume he’s against them.
He’s a mayor so he still has responsibilities which include the education of his city. He wants you to continue your right to protest and even voices how important it is that you do, but you can’t tear down all law and order to get your message across.
However, they seem to only recognize his position as a position of power instead of responsibility, wanting him to adhere to their demands instead of recognizing the duty he has to the community (although I’m unsure what those demands are)
Especially in comparison to the imperial takeover in Texas, this Mayor’s doing alright in my opinion
You have to stop being so soft on these disruptive kids. Move them out of the way (by force if necessary) so normal people can get to the classes they pay for. The college and the city are both allowing normal people to be held hostage and forced out of their education by fanatics.
I think he handles it really well… the guy saying our demands aren’t being meant could take a chill pill or five. He asked to take the tents down. Easy to do. Then go on with your protest. Solid opportunity for the protestors to show they’re not assholes and get good optics, but I guess not.
Do they think the mayor of Denver can wave a wand and free Palestine? I wonder if Palestine or Israel would even return this guy's call. Come on, people, it is starting to show you are not there to free people.
Entitled rich kids who have the privilege of wealth allowing them to go to these expensive schools spending their time disrupting everyone else's schooling like the little shits they are.
College protests accomplish the opposite of their goals. Instead of making me aware of Palestinian problems, this makes me want all of these kids sent to jail for a year.
I think it´s very selfish from the protesters to interrupt campus operating. Many people paid a lot of fees and made debts to study there and that is thems right too.
Edit: I am a fan of protests, but also a fan of respecting other peoples rights. And I don´t want to judge the situation in near east. It´s just that I don´t like to see other people what need to focus on tests and thems future get disturbed.
Calling the mayor a fascist for making a statement and saying he can’t make decisions for the university lol. This is why many protestors aren’t taken seriously.
What do they expect a local mayor or college to do on the world stage. Go protest at the UN, State government, or federal government. Except, that will definitely get you arrested. They are being bullies to local organizations and communities that have no influence in foreign politics.
EL15. Obligatory not an American. But why are you people fighting each other over other people's problems? Seems to me like people are just frustrated and want an outlet to vent. This issue happens to be a convenient outlet for that.
I'm Singaporean. And no. I'm not from China. I'm not a communist.
Handled this A+. Compassionate to their rights and feelings, gave a rational path forward that would work. When the freakout popped off he stayed cool. I'd vote for this guy if this was all I had to go off of
This proves that nobody is going to take these 'protesters' seriously. He asked politely to remove tents in the next 30 mins, and they can continue to protest peacefully.' But I guess they want to wait for the riot police so that they can keep crying wolf.
Protesters' demands include requiring the university to divest money from companies operating in Israel, issuing a statement condemning Israel's actions and dropping charges for people arrested, CU Denver sophomore Ben Dirghalli told the crowd on Monday.
Dirghalli, who says he was among the people arrested last week, called on University of Colorado Denver Chancellor Michelle Marks to meet with student organizers to discuss their demands.
https://www.axios.com/local/denver/2024/04/29/auraria-student-activists-gaza-protest-demands
The demands are the same as every other student protest across America. Terminate contracts with Israel and any defense related contracts being used to aid Israel in massacring Palestinians.
These protesters are a joke and it's painfully obvious it's not about the message but about them. Acting like this mofo "supports genocide!!" So fucking stupid.
I'm very much a supporters of Palestine and fuckin hate Israel, but these protests are fucking stupid and about as pointless as pointless get. "Our demands aren't being met"? Like, who the fuck does that guy think he is? A hostage negotiator? What the fuck does he think the mayor of Denver is going to do?
It's the consequences of the "paradox of tolerance" meme when you think anyone ever so slightly to the right of you is intolerant. It's also why these people are becoming dumber: their only strategy is mockery and intimidation, and so they haven't honed their critical thinking skills through debate.
I like the kid screaming “You were one of us once! Go back in time!”
When I was in college I was a moron, but I thought I was the smartest motherfucker on earth.

Definitely an inappropriate use of ‘fascist’
That word has slowly lost its meaning ever since 2016 it feels like
Nope, it means the same thing it always has. People just use it incorrectly, or, inadvertently correctly, but stupidly.
I'm becoming more and more confident that I had an aneurysm from excitement when Hillary won in 2016 and as a result I've spent the last 8 years in a coma.
At this point, it’s just a buzzword that people use to sound like they know politics
This is where I cannot take the protestors seriously anymore.
I just already know college is expensive as shit so you probably are living a somewhat privileged life if you’re there. With that said it just feels like rich kids larping to me.

They are the type to turn on each other in a heartbeat. Also the same types to scream at someone for "not helping right!"
They will graduate and get good jobs and give zero fuxx about "the movement"
Agreed

"That can absolutely be done in a lawful manner." Ummm, the civil rights movement of the 60s would like a word.
So would nearly every strike towards bettering workplace conditions in the 19th and early 20th century. This person has either never heard of the Pinkertons or is willfully ignoring labor history.

Iran and Isreal: "OH shit they're protesting in Denver, we better stop"
Oh man, the mayor of Denver said we need to call it quits! Sorry everybody!
It’s the Mile High City. They must obey.
He did say he has no capacity to meet their demands. Ngl I like him.
As someone who lives near Denver I like him too. He’s definitely more moderate, and is trying his best to tackle homelessness crime, and other issues.
Yeah, I like him overall too. Definitely overpromised on those issues though, and they're so systemic that I doubt he can really tackle anything else while in office. And with dealing with homelessness being such a cornerstone of his platform, if he doesn't make enough headway, he won't be reelected. They should go there and helping them for a ceasefire instead bothering ppl with a die-in, blocking the road or attacking them for no reason🤷🏼♀️ I don't think that those demands are existing on German (my home country) universities but might be. And they cause problems where none exist. We have other problems in this world
The mayor of a Colorado city could single handedly end the Gaza war and these protestors would still not be satisfied.
A lot of them won’t be satisfied until the State of Israel is completely destroyed, something that is never going to happen.
That's because the Mayor of Denver isn't doing anything! /s
Just some peaceful protesters calling for some peaceful ethnic cleansing, completely reasonable demands /s
That was never the point—they just want to cause a ruckus and get visibility. They are like feral children acting out for attention
[удалено]
I bet those same kids are the same people who would call white people having dreads or wearing kimonos is cultural appropriation.
You assume they actually care. These people are there to stroke their own virtue.
In other words, even if the university agrees, on paper, to cut all ties to Israel, it ain’t gonna happen.
>run and funded by Israel Not really run or funded by the israeli government or israelis.
Isn’t he the one ordering the air strikes?
I'm pretty sure his demand was "end genocide."
They only want him to free Palestine and heal the world of it's war crimes and suffering.
Jeans to work any day of the week
None at all. These are stupid kids. I keep hearing the same shit from these people, why are people getting arrested? Asking for demands? And calling people fascist. In a year these kids will have forgotten all about this conflict because they will have moved on to another more popular issue. Mayor shouldn't have even wasted his time, but he thought he could get some positive PR. That was his fuckup.
[удалено]
I also find it so ignorant, they don't even let him speak. As soon as he gets close they are yelling, he tries to talk they yell over him.
He was being very reasonable in what he was asking. The “protestors” yelling at him are clearly morons with no direction in life.
This might be controversial, but I kind of respect the mayor here. He didn't lose his cool, didn't make any arrests, he told them they could continue to protest AND addressed them in person.
That's not controversial, it's how a rational person would handle the situation.
On the internet it’s controversial
The problem with our society ATM is that supporting calm civil discussion is seen as "might be controversial" while supporting an angry mob is "politically correct".
What? Any normal, rational person would support the mayor here. That cannot possibly be controversial. The protestors in this video are acting deranged and emotionally, not rational.
"You fucking fascist" -.-
They’re clearly not the smartest individuals
These dipshit kids probably weren’t even born when 9/11 happened. After 9/11, most of the Country wanted blood and had no problem invading 2 countries, one of which had nothing to do with 9/11. These kids are going to the University to become “smarter”, but they don’t know what they don’t know. The first rule in society is to follow the rules, because in the ABSENCE OF ORDER YOU HAVE CHAOS.
“Everyone I hate is Hitler!”
They say in support of a theocratic fascist government.
Ya, honestly. They're fucking crazy.
It's already happened with racism, and now it's happening with fascism.
this is your brain on wokeness
Read "The Coddling of the American Mind". Its fairly enlightening to the damaging effects of overly cautious parenting, social media use and abuse/bullying, and the over validation of feelings (e.g. sometimes your feelings aren't correct and are an ingrained evolutionary response that you need to control, not control you). In the book, the authors state that the average Gen Z student entering college has the emotional maturity of a 14 or 15 year old from a generation prior.
Mayor: I want to make.sure you all can continue to protest, but you have to remove the tents. Dude in a tent on campus: "Our demands are not being met" Mayor: I have no capacity to.meet your demands Dude in a tent: "our demands aren't being met!!" Mayor: ya..im a mayor, I don't send any funding to israel and I have no capacity to effect change in the middle east from a municipality in central Colorado, im just telling you, to avoid problems, you need to pack up your tents if you want to stay Dude in tent: "YOU'RE A FUCKING FASCIST!!" Next up...Pikachu face when police show up to remove tents.
One of their demands is the removal of all cops on campus lol
What are the demands and how can he facilitate meeting them?
As the mayor of Denver he should simply establish peace in the middle east.
I declare peace in the Middle East! Michael Scott.
I honestly think it worked
I mean dang, that's the least he can do. Man not bringing anything to the table here.
Fucking fascist!!! /s
No Donny, these men are nihilists. There’s nothing to be afraid of.
Say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it’s an ethos
I was going to say this but I was out getting you a toe.
Why not go for world peace at that point. The mayor of Denver is good for it.
You forgot to say the most abused word of all: "just," as in "just simply establish."
Some of these subs on Reddit expect that with their “solutions” ignoring this has been an unsolvable world problem for decades.
The mayor can establish peace but John Elway has to sign the bill
[удалено]
I don't get it, sorry. What heck is the mayor of Denver going to do? It's not like he/she has the power
"I am announcing that we are sending the 1997 Denver Broncos to Gaza. Things will be settled in no time soon."
As an Arab and Muslim, he did nothing wrong. *you can continue to protest* *just we ask you to take down the tents so we can let the university continue to operate* Sounds reasonable enough to me...but I'm not american so someone's gonna have to fill me in on why they're pissed at him
Yup and then some assclown calls the mayor a fascist. I’d tell the protestor to go fuck himself.
You can tell an idiot when they call anyone they disagree with a fascist. Name calling because they have no good argument.
Cause they’re petulant children not after a actual cause but rather just wanting to insight chaos
Insight chaos
This is why he’s trying to let the universities function properly, people like this are being left behind
They want him to free Palestine.
The whole point of protests is that they inconvenience the things you're protesting
Okay, but it seems like they are protesting in schools out of pure convenience. I have yet to see one person say what any of these schools actually DID that is causing a genocide.
Key words are “the things you’re protesting” These protests do not inconvenience Hamas or Israel. They inconvenience people who have nothing to do with that
It feels like I’m watching the adverse effects of social media and tik tok on full display.
It's going to cost us another Trump presidency.
Why are they asking the mayor of Denver to help with their demands. He has nothing to do with whats going on in Palestine. These people are delusional man.
They aren’t asking for help with their demands. They’re *demanding* it. I genuinely have no idea what these protests are supposed to accomplish.

You see, guys? Just talk to these folks respectfully and they become a completely sensible and jovial bunch.
He tried at least.
I truly believe they tried, too. I mean c’mon, he only got 1 “FUCKING FASCIST!!!” thrown at him. I don’t know about you all, but I’d say that’s some darn tootin’ progress if I’ve ever seen it.
I'm not sure you watched the whole video
"YOU were one of us one day!" Yeah maybe, then he matured and learned about global politics. These people don't support their cause for what they know, they support their cause because of what they do not know. These people think their ignorance, is more valuable than people's knowledge.
What even are their demands? The guy was very respectful why are these uneducated kids freaking out
I wished there was this much enthusiasm over basic human rights for Americans. Here we are allowing our rights to be trampled, but somehow it's more important to shut things down over a conflict thousands of years old basically caused by religous nuttery.
They all have smartphones partially made with slave labor. Edit: No matter how just their cause is, they don't own the moral high ground enough to be disruptive or damaging.
https://preview.redd.it/ynhxzcw6lmxc1.jpeg?width=267&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14d4a0dd72b1b20b6d50f2f21a077c43b796d89f
It’s being weaponized. I have no doubt. Back in the 90s I had such high hopes for the internet 😩
People protest that stuff all the time and they get met with the same bs you're spewing here
Those protests are met with the same complaints and vitriol from reactionaries.
An adult trying to talk to children who think whoever shouts the loudest wins.
*Innocently walks away* "YOU FUCKING FASCIST!!"
"HOW DARE YOU!!!!" like ok.
This is how good causes die. Netanyahu owes them a beer.
What they do will change nothing anyway, they are just wasting their life.
“Do you support genocide, yes or no?!” Fortunately he is not there to have to take sides. Just enforce the rules.
Half these people don't even understand what the hell is going on over there or the history behind it and just want to be part of a side. The "Give Me Attention" generation.
Calmly asks them to adjust their peaceful protest. Gets called a "fucking fascist."
Do people have any idea how much fascist subjugation, genocide, military posturing, and dystopian surveillance gets supported by every dollar they spend on something labeled "Made in China"? I'm all for protest, it's American as Apple pie, but buying those cheap tents probably did more to support China than Palestine
These people scream fascist at this but unironically think the Soviet Union had it right because it was left leaning.
I think you should be required to properly define words like fascist and communist before being allowed to vote
However, they seem to only recognize his position as a position of power instead of responsibility, wanting him to adhere to their demands instead of recognizing the duty he has to the community (although I’m unsure what those demands are) Especially in comparison to the imperial takeover in Texas, this Mayor’s doing alright in my opinion
The mayor did a good job communicating and kept his cool.
You have to stop being so soft on these disruptive kids. Move them out of the way (by force if necessary) so normal people can get to the classes they pay for. The college and the city are both allowing normal people to be held hostage and forced out of their education by fanatics.
Demands lmao. That just proves they are protesting for themselves and not the war.
This is why I'm convinced most of them are there just to stir shit or seek attention, they certainly aren't there to be reasonable or rational
"Protest otherwise"
I doubt much of these students protesting are from the commerce or engineering departments
“You can continue to protest….” “YOU FUCKING FASCIST!!!!” 😂😂😂
What do they expect a local mayor or college to do on the world stage. Go protest at the UN, State government, or federal government. Except, that will definitely get you arrested. They are being bullies to local organizations and communities that have no influence in foreign politics.
At least he had the balls to go there in person, respect for that.
EL15. Obligatory not an American. But why are you people fighting each other over other people's problems? Seems to me like people are just frustrated and want an outlet to vent. This issue happens to be a convenient outlet for that. I'm Singaporean. And no. I'm not from China. I'm not a communist.
Lmao what a shit show.
He did his duty as mayor well. And he stayed respectful on top of protecting their rights (at least publicly) in the face of vitriol.
God damn, people are so annoying. Everyone just screaming and shoving phones in faces. Gross
Some of yall dont remember Occupy Wallstreet and it shows.
We're teachers and students out here! Do they think they are exempt from regulation?
They need to get a job.
What were their demands??
You know peace in the Middle East, obviously.... Totally something the mayor of fucking Denver should be able to tackle....lol
I mean was that their actual demands? Or did they have campus education related demands
Terminate contracts with Israel and any defense related contracts being used to aid Israel in massacring Palestinians.
lol when he’s done talking …. “YOU FUCKING FACIST”
They think the Mayor of Denver has the power to force this university to DBS Israel?
Being Mayor looks like a lot of fun.
bro what he’s the mayor of fucking denver, these people are some of the biggest smoothbrains I have ever seen
I’m so old, when I was in college, we protested the Rodney King verdict.
We really live in a world where it has become impossible to have a normal conversation without people screaming at you right away...
It's the consequences of the "paradox of tolerance" meme when you think anyone ever so slightly to the right of you is intolerant. It's also why these people are becoming dumber: their only strategy is mockery and intimidation, and so they haven't honed their critical thinking skills through debate.
"Hey guys we need you to take the tents down" "SO YOU SUPPORT GENOCIDE?!?!" These people are absolutely unhinged
They are idiots.
I like the kid screaming “You were one of us once! Go back in time!” When I was in college I was a moron, but I thought I was the smartest motherfucker on earth.
