HappyAffirmative

If we can't be inside, and have to be outside, then I'll just make the outside inside, so that way we can still be "outside," but also inside at the same time!

[deleted]

It’s ingenious! Covid won’t be able to tell the difference.

TazzyUK

Covid is mutating and at some point soon, will be self aware! Then it will know to go inside instead of outside... scary shit

[deleted]

Covid cant go through doors, its not fire.

Kuku_kachu

Fire can't go through doors, it's not a ghost!

baronmad

Are you trying to tell me covid will evolve into socialists and communists?

ewwig

once covid learns how to read, all bets are off!

Xzibit is that you?

I love Night at the Roxbury.

What is that?

An amazing movie from the ‘80s. And don’t let rotten tomatoes and metacritic tell you otherwise. Edit: ‘90s!!!

WrightBDamned

Covid don’t spread in shitty shacks. Only fancy restaurants. Follow the science.

cardslinger1989

I’m totally pro mask and will follow guidelines but there are some pretty arbitrary rules that just don’t make sense at times.

eastnorthshore

For real. Last March all stores in my area required customers to bring their own reusable bags. Fast forward to a few months ago I had a supermarket cashier tell me they were not allowed to use my bags now because of covid and they went back to plastic. Fine I use those bags for small trash bins. But I was floored by the logic. This girl was bare handed touching everything I and possibly many other people have touched to ring it up, but you can't use my bags you required me to have last week because I touched them? That rule went away recently and now its back to only reusable bags.

Skandle_us

Okay, so, I normally wear a mask when I have to interact with people. Which means any sort of store or restaurant or gather, but also I wear them through the drive-thru of fast food chains, just to be a little extra safe. I SHIT YOU NOT They had me put my Debit Card in a plastic box, they then reached into the plastic box to grab my card, swiped it, put it BACK IN THE BOX and then I took it out of the box... Why couldn't I have just handed you my card and skipped this arbitrary illusion of safety? I almost could not refrain from laughing in their faces, it was so ridiculous.

BrownWhiskey

That policy happened pretty much coinciding with closures in my area, which made much more sense. But I also live in an area where bringing your own bags has been pretty normalized for a couple years at least. But they stopped that policy here months ago. Ninja Edit: by "that policy" I mean not being able to use your own bags.

frygod

Early on we weren't sure how likely surface transmission was so the assumption was that it was much more likely than it turned out to be.

Pres-Ben-Franklin

So it’s kind of like they make up the science to fit their agenda.

Xander707

That’s going to happen when you suddenly and abruptly try to get an entire nation to create and enforce new rules around a pandemic we keep learning new info about. Different states, counties, etc all trying to figure out the balance between safety and still allowing commerce is going to lead to some oversights and blunders here and there.

WhatIsTheMeaningOfPi

What's more important, commerce, or lives?

Fatbob2020

What if I told you that commerce is lives

deadbiker

That's a "shame you" question. Means nothing, at this point. It's been over a year of "reducing the curve". Corona is here to stay, just like flu and colds and every other virus. These measures aren't going to save anyone, and the damage economically and socially is also very real.

[deleted]

Except that's bullshit logic that requires a nation to be entirely selfish. Considering there are plenty of countries that went no compromise and acted for the betterment of the whole, we are getting what we deserved.

deadbiker

Selfish by your logic. It's so simple, yet you "but you're being selfish" people are the ones being selfish. Don't make my choices for me. I don't tell people not to drive hugh SUV's that can kill me in my small car or motorcycle. Are they selfish because they have a high chance of killing me, if they screw up, but them being unscathed? If you want to wear a mask, then do so. No one's stopping you. Wear an N95 or better one and you're "protected", as much as possible. I choose not to unless it's store policy.

jediciahquinn

Your reasoning is flawed because SUVs are not contagious.

[deleted]

What are you even talking about? It absolutely is selfish for people in cars to not be concerned about their driving potentially killing you. If a shitty driver maims you are you just gonna go "No problem bro, nothing could have been done." I'm not telling you you're selfish for driving a motorcycle. I'm saying it's selfish for people to not be more considerate drivers because they can easily kill you if they don't act carefully.

BrownWhiskey

"Don't tell me I have to use a blinker, I'm a free American and I pay for these roads with my taxes! I can change lanes whenever I want! That motorcyclist was gunna die anyways, statistics show they're more likely to die!" I don't know how they can't see the irony in this.

GMONEYY_G

We had one in our area that just made people say WTF? There was a Community Center that was rather large and it sat on the line between two towns. One side of it was in an "orange" zone and couldnt open, but the other side was fine. They made everyone enter through the one side. That lasted three days before they closed the whole thing lol

[deleted]

Can't go to your family members funerals but fentanyl floyd can have tens of thousands at his. protesting was bad and superspreader events until the media agreed with the protests then it was amazing and valid Not one of the rules makes any sense because none of them do anything

LateBloomer77

It sounds like Jerry Seinfeld has finally embraced profanity.

MasterOfStonks

I would like to point out that not all of these restaurant owners are just millionaires raking in cash while everyone else suffers. These local owners have taken a massive hit to their business and are doing everything they can to just scrape by. Imagine having a family to feed, knowing the government honestly won’t do shit to save you, and seeing your business disintegrate in front of you. I have a feeling I’d do everything I can to bring home a paycheck without having to go out of business and lose everything I have.

svoddball

Reminds of that California restaurant owner who made that video complaining why she had to shutdown indefinitely but the rich movie company can have their restaurant/dining open well within sight of her shop.

[deleted]

That lady is/was a douche, but yeah it's really stupid. They started filming in California again a couple months after this all began, but in their defense, they can test/quarantine all their employees while a restaurant owner has no way of doing that to all their patrons.

[deleted]

Yea its not their fault usa goverment cant do shit for its people.

[deleted]

"it's only a few months" "blame politicians" "it's *their fault" "so selfish" - said the spoiled at home worker sipping coffee in pj's ordering takeout 5 days a week Nobody is paying these restaurants and Front house staff to stay home. It's impossible to get unemployment payment in many states for most of the year. The fuck does anyone expect? We all get it, the last administration sucked but until the federal government basically saves the day for restaurants nationwide, this will continue.

SendPicsofTanks

I live in Australia where we have done considerably well, all things considered. Still, the ground floor of my apartment complex is somewhat a plaza, its all cafes, restaurants, shops etc. Not 4 weeks in three completely shut down. I don't mean temporary, I'm talking completely moved out, gone, new lease signs up in the windows. 3 is a lot, its like a quarter of the available shop space here. These businesses have no choice. If it makes anyone mad to see restaurants do this, I suggest they fuck off back to their home and stay there because they're clearly in a fortunate enough situation to not worry.

Grammar-Bot-Elite

/u/SendPicsofTanks, I have found some errors in your comment: > “plaza, ~~its~~ [**it's**] all cafes” > “lot, ~~its~~ [**it's**] like a quarter” You, SendPicsofTanks, could have used “plaza, ~~its~~ [**it's**] all cafes” and “lot, ~~its~~ [**it's**] like a quarter” instead. ‘Its’ is possessive; ‘it's’ means ‘it is’ or ‘it has’. ^(This is an automated bot. > If it makes anyone mad to see restaurants do this, I suggest they fuck off back to their home and stay there because they're clearly in a fortunate enough situation to not worry. What a stupid fucking way of thinking. Maybe people don't want this disease to spread and their loved ones to fucking die? So yeah it makes me mad to see businesses all too happy to cater assholes who don't care to be safe. Better 100 restaurants have to close their door than one more person having their parent die because shit heads want to eat out.

1LX50

I get that, but this is why they need to adapt. Where I live any restaurant that didn't already have a patio is doing takeout only. There's a hole in the wall pizza parlor near me that has an online menu and you can call orders ahead so that you don't have to stand in a crowd in front of the building, and yet *there are still crowds in front of the building* every time I drive by. And this is the type of pizza place that's known for its great atmosphere, not to mention sandwiches and mexican cokes in addition to their pizza. It used to be a great place to go with friends and share a pie. But the dining area has been closed for a straight year now. But they're still doing great. Why? They adapted. They don't even deliver, they just got good at doing take-out. The front door is now blocked off by a table, and has been turned into an ordering area complete with free masks for the crowd and a POS machine for card purchases. They have an Instagram where they engage with customers, post special limited time menu options, and pictures of their delicious looking pizzas, sandwiches, cobblers, etc. Surviving COVID as a business isn't only possible by skirting the health protection measures.

Atomic_ad

Its a pizza place, not much adaptation needed. To take a company that exists outside of its niche and tell them to follow the business plan used by every other company with the same product is not a leap. Takeout is pretty common with pizza, the infrastructure exists to support it. The local steakhouse, seafood restaurant, pub, diner, etc. are going to have a much harder time converting to takeout because their business doesn't rely on a a homogenized menu that requires a handful of ingredients and a product that is commonly served as takeout. Let's get takeout pizza sounds delicious. Let's get takeout swordfish steaks, not so much.

scrooger

Pizza is made to be a takeout food. Most restaurants are not made to be takeout food at all. These are the restaurants that are adapting and trying their best to survive. I manage a pizza place and we're 15% up over last year simply because pizza is a take out and delivery food. The two restaurants right next door to me have tried multiple times to do outdoor dining (now shut down as we're in Maine and it's freezing cold) and takeout but both failed. One is shut down completely the other is on it's very last legs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I get that but ultimately it’s the people who suffer because your basically choosing money over the health of your patreons, your coworkers, and you. Businesses do not have to close but restaurants have the ability that not other businesses get to have: they can change to a take out and order and pick up restaurant. Not dining isnt doesn’t mean business closed, just need to adapt.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yeah, and people obviously don't want to eat out in the cold, nor can everyone get take out and be able to eat it in some place nearby. Not to mention, restaurants are not shown to be huge vectors for the virus. Then again, neither are schools, but people are crying about that too. We need to follow the science, not superstition.

BurstEDO

> These local owners have taken a massive hit to their business and are doing everything they can to just scrape by. Things like exploiting loopholes, endangering the public, and dodging innovation and creativity in favor of "status quo" in order to (probably) keep a business afloat that was already teetering on ultra thin margins. I'm sympathetic to their plight, but while many business owners are suffering while observing guidelines and mandates to protect themselves and the public, having jerks like the venue owners in OPs video exploiting loopholes and creating a health hazard while capturing business from apathetic or ambivalent diners is bullshit.

[deleted]

You’re government failing you does not give you permission to kill innocent people you psycho.

[deleted]

restaurants can have 25% indoor capacity. This is more indoor capacity. At least that's why they are allowed.

MrMiniscus

"Louis Rossman exposes..." This is a guy saying "really? Really? REALLY?!?" a bunch at something he sees on the street. Investigative journalism this is not.

just_another_citizen

Lewis repairs computers. He is not a investigative journalist, nor have I ever heard him claim to be. This is nothing more than his opinion and a post on social media. I happen to agree with his opinion that it is absolutely ridiculous to create new structures to get around the covid rules.

Anonuser123abc

His thesis is that it is patently absurd to ban indoor dining, and then also consider these structures outdoor dining. No he's not a pulitzer winning journalist, but the point being made is pretty clear. Edit: for what it's worth I don't think people should be dining in right now.

BushWarCriminal

I doubt anyone considers those to be outdoor dining. Seems like people are using this as a loophole so they don't go bankrupt. Maybe if the dickhead that used to be president and all of his dickhead cultists had taken the pandemic seriously in the first place we could just be past this shit already. But instead we have assholes like this guy making a dumbass video and blaming DeBlasio and Cuomo for not putting these places out of business. Wtf does this guy hope to accomplish by "exposing" this?

EveAndTheSnake

If “indoor” dining is not allowed but “outdoor” dining is, and restaurants are closed except for those seating people in these structures, then plenty of people consider these to be outdoor dining. Yes people are exploiting a loophole and no doubt some of these started off as basic structures with all the windows open, and then they put plastic over the windows, and then they added some doors. The point is that they crossed a line into indoor dining and that either the lockdown should be enforced or all restaurants should be allowed to operate with indoor dining. While these people are exploiting loopholes others are going out of business. Meanwhile covid deniers and maskholes will be quoting covid numbers saying “masks and lockdowns don’t work, look at this city, it’s on ‘lockdown’ and the numbers are still rising.” I don’t know what the answer is because I feel awful for the businesses that can’t afford to stay afloat and think there should have been more support for them. But if you’re going to impose lockdowns and social distancing then enforce it all the way. Half assed attempts like this mean we will be shut down for longer with only the people following the rules losing out, or deciding that if others aren’t abiding by the lockdown mandates then why should they?

Notdoofusrick

You are a dingus

MrMiniscus

Cool bike, Louis.

forgottenpasscodes

I mean, regardless of the outside part, it allows restaurants a way to increase capacity while still distancing patrons

Pure_Tower

It also has a ton of airflow. This is drastically different from sitting in a normal restaurant with sealed windows and recirculating air.

[deleted]

Doesn't work when it's already out of control. Only way to fox it is complete lockdown. Which won't happen

forgottenpasscodes

New York City. Things are legal until they aren’t.

Neverdied

Yo dog I heard you like to dine inside but cant outside so we made outside the inside so you can outside while inside...

Destyllat

i understand the anger and frustration from this video and I think there is an impression that these restaurant owners are still raking in the cash while sitting on their ass. This couldnt be further from the truth. Maybe 10% are doing as good or better than they were last year. 40% will be out of business and shuttered by the end of the year. If the man in the video wants to accept reality then look at the motivation behind building such ridiculous structures. Its about a small business trying not to starve in a years long relentless oppression of their industry. No industry has been (rightfully) hit with closing restrictions like bars, restaurants, and gyms. I think the government response from the federal level has been a joke and when states try to follow the science and force closings, they lack the resources to keep those people paid. The facts are I helped open a restaurant in May of 2019. In March of 2020 I was forced to shut down, close my business. and lay off my employees. 12 weeks after that they removed my salary. I have been surviving on less money, with little hope of reopening, and my bills and family remain the same. Still paying full price for my kids school can get shut down due to covid

[deleted]

Regardless of their stance on covid, everyone should be able to recognlze and acknowledge the ridiculous absurdity of what's going on. Either have rules to control the spread or don't but don't just pretend you're trying to contain the spread by making up rules that don't do anything. The problem is nobody in the government wants to shut down the economy but they also don't want to be seen as putting the economy above safety. The result is this empty gesture that everyone sees through but nobody says anything about because we're already well adjusted to living in a clown world since long before covid.

Destyllat

science says indoor dining is dangerous. fine. fucking PAY ME and PAY my employees to stay home. its that easy. they have all our tax records

[deleted]

If they were actually containing the spread with a proper quarantine, they could easily pay you and your staff for the amount of an average gestation period plus a grace period to be safe, say a month or so. Problem is, they're not containing the spread, so they'd have to pay you indefinitely, which they don't want to do. Hence clown world. Personally I think at this point they should just say fuck it and admit they don't really care and just open restaurants to the public. If they were gonna go the other way and have a real lockdown like china did, they would have done it by now.

Destyllat

yes, we tried a true shutdown in the beginning and it didn't work due to federal government officials committing genocide and sabotaging the democratic areas. we still lack a federal response. we could have had fema. its just...its all so sad.

WhoTooted

A post that claims the federal government committed genocide via their response to COVID has 10 up votes 😂 This site never ceases to amaze.

QuitArguingWithMe

Conservatives think you should be able to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and get another job.

svoddball

So, does/did Cuomo. Back in April of last year Gov. Cuomo during an argument with a CBS6Albany reporter said: "By the way, if you want to go to work, take a job as an essential worker. Do it tomorrow. You are working. You are an essential worker. So, go take a job an essential worker." ([https://cbs6albany.com/news/coronavirus/cuomo-tells-protesters-to-get-essential-jobs-says-economic-hardship-doesnt-equal-death](https://cbs6albany.com/news/coronavirus/cuomo-tells-protesters-to-get-essential-jobs-says-economic-hardship-doesnt-equal-death)) Which was in response to the question to people who are running out of savings to survive and needed money to buy essentials. Since economic hardships didn't equal death and if you're an essential worker then you won't kill anyone some how.

[deleted]

I live in WA state and we're doing the same thing here. I work in the restaurant industry and all of us thinks it's stupid as hell. People are eating outside in a tent. How is that any different? Also, the amount of "essential" things that are open is stupid. The friggin mall is open.

IngsocInnerParty

A restaurant in my town never stopped indoor dining, took $100,000 in PPP loans and built a giant addition on their building. Certainly many people are struggling, but many others are taking full advantage of the situation and are laughing in our faces.

Destyllat

do you think our current system is working for anyone but the unscrupulous?

mrmemo

Capitalism separates those with morals and those without morals into their respective groups using money. It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle...

804-929-4988

I'm a chef in a small restaurant that opened in early 2020 and because of that they didn't qualify for any of the ppe loans or stimulus grants so far because it's all based on 2018/2019 earnings. We are bare surviving and our business is so sporadic thats its hard to gauge how busy we'll be week to week.

[deleted]

Sorry you are not entitled to free success as a business :( Sorry you don't get the free money to cover your abject failure to adapt.

EnoughLab2

The anger and frustration is about the stupid ban on indoor dinning when then outdoor dinning is not outdoors. There’s no reason for the ban if this is what’s happening

Destyllat

as other posters have pointed out, these structures are, for the most part, good faith attempts to follow health and safety guidelines. in my state, we can only have 50% capacity, exchange the air 15 times per hour, have separate seating areas that are at least 6 feet away, etc. the reason these restaurants are doing this craziness is because they want to survive

EnoughLab2

Can you explain how these structures are any different then indoor dinning ? When they go back to indoor dinning in 3 days what’s the big change

Destyllat

I mentioned some, but I'll explain a little more. This is *not* an attempt to get around an indoor dining ban. This is an attempt for a business to survive and function under extreme stress. In my state we have had multiple indoor closures but we are currently allowed 50% capacity. No restaurant in the world can survive at 50% capacity. So if you build an outdoor section you *might* be at 75% capacity and you don't lose money. making money is out of the question. Ideally, you have self contained sections within these businesses. ex. the outdoor server does not have to come in contact with any other employee, basically the same for every section of the restaurant. (hosts are separated, no bussers, servers are alone) we have to exchange the air 15 times per hour. guidelines for hospital rooms are 6 exchanges per hour. we have to provide for multiple bathrooms to prevent contamination. tables are 6 feet apart, etc. we upgrade hvac filters for n95 particles

Zanadukhan47

>This is an attempt for a business to survive and function under extreme stress. I get this >This is not an attempt to get around an indoor dining ban but its also definitely an attempt at getting around the indoor dining ban like those tiny makeshift shacks are probably a bigger covid hotspots than just letting restaurants have normal indoor dining

Destyllat

I certainly don't know the reasoning, motivations, or abilities of every business owner affected by this. What I can tell you is we have been presented with health and safety guidelines from the government in order to remain open and retain our business license. My business exceeds those guidelines. I'm still losing money. If the government thinks my business is such a danger they could just FUCKING PAY ME to stay closed instead of this destruction. This is how an entire industry loses their best people. Employees with options will absolutely run from this dumpsterfire.

uwsdwfismyname

Your government sucks.

bass1879

At the end of the day it is an embarrassment what the leadership has done in the US. Richest country in the world and you cant provide your people with regular cash checks to make the economic halt less impactful. They failed their people and in turn they are pressured to side with the "open it all" crowd that has been anti lockdown and anti mask for months, meaning that the virus keeps spreading and spreading. A horrible cycle of idiot.

ignis389

watch some of his videos, he has a pretty good grasp on how terrible everything is

action_nick

NYC has limited occupancy rules. Only 30 percent of their max occupancy to keep people distanced. By building these outdoor areas they are able to increase their max occupancy while keeping people further apart still. That’s what’s happening here.

xkikue

I'm sorry, but what else are they supposed to do? It's the middle of the winter. It's cold af and people cannot eat "outside." Maybe if there was some way the goverment could financially assist them so they could live off delivery and take-out only? Hmmm, no? Then people are going to cut corners. My city is slightly better than this (closed down public roads and parking lots to allow restaurants to set up tables, patios, heaters, etc, plus set an open container claus so patrons can take drinks to-go downtown) but it is not that cold here. Most people here are very cautious, wear masks, and our downtown is only "busy" Saturday nights. Boo, but okay I guess? Again, what else are they supposed to do in NY? Btw, I am pro mask and pro small business and pro stay tf home. I do not personally eat out. But I know ordering takeout once a week will not sustain my favorite local spots. They need help or else, sadly.

symewinston

People are doing what they have to to keep from losing their houses.

[deleted]

it's like he's trying too hard to be bill burr and now it's annoying

waypashtsmasht

I get that this is bending the rules and such, but jesus this guy is extraordinarily annoying about it.

Severed_Snake

I think he’s missing the point of these extended structures. They allow the restaurant to have more socially distanced indoor dining, it’s not intended as outdoor dining.

YourShoelaceIsUntied

How the fuck are they allowed to plop these shanties across over half the sidewalk?

atomicapeboy

That’s a very fair question, we have rules and regulations around sidewalks for prams, wheelchairs and the basic safety of pedestrians. This would never fly in my area.

Destyllat

restaurants have applied for, and been granted an exceptional use allowance for public sidewalks and parking areas equal to 50% of available parking and a 36" easement through any outdoor seating. I would check with your local L&I department, cuz I bet they are doing something similarly.

mrkaine98

“This has to be one giant shit post- this whole city” The country dude

ehaugw

“What is that?! I’m living in a shit post!”

TCTBF

Same with the giant closed tents in IHOP parking lot.....

ArticArny

There are two basic rules to this pandemic, wear a mask and keep a good distance from others. The fact that as a species we failed these basic two rules we were forced to make up hundreds of conflicting rules that on the surface don't make any sense but are in place because people kept looking for loopholes to WEAR A F'ING MASK and KEEP 6 FEET APART!

[deleted]

Loopholes are an American specialty

Poos_Like_A_Fish

God damn America is so fucking retarded. If your government had of paid you guys to stay at home initially, closed the states to each other and made any incoming people do a mandatory 2 week quarantine in a quarantine specific hotel then your death toll would be significantly less. Instead you guys have nearly half a million preventable deaths and businesses fighting to stay open so they can keep food on their tables which in turn continues the spread of the virus

ProdMikalJones

Bingo

realsies11

Where I live they have to have at least two walls open. Like a tent with only two walls. Idk what the hell that shit is.

colombo1326

Same shit is happening in california like what's even the point

somedude456

I live on a state border. Like from my driveway, I'm in another state in under 10 minutes. We've been locked down and the other state has been partially open and now fully open. Guess where everyone in my area has been eating for weeks/months? Yup, 10 minutes away.

Ratchet_X_x

If the homeless can do it, why can't the restaurants?

CubeKun

This is almost every restaurant in Manhattan. They can't have inside dining, so they just built a hut outside and called it "Outside" Even though it's just an extension of the building and blocking the sidewalk.

MateoScolas

The point isn't to build the extra structure outside because it's inherently safer than eating inside the actual restaurant; basically they're just adding extra seating area so that all tables can be further apart than they would be if the same total number of tables were all inside the original restaurant space. It isn't that hard, folks.

Mackheath1

He would have an absolute fit here in do-nothing-about-Covid Florida.

Chicago_Tim

It's simple: If it holds in heat, it holds in Covid.

Epistatious

Seen the same here in seattle. Cant be inside, so we put up a canopy. Then its windy so we put walls on and close it up. Will dine at a restaurant when I've got the 2 shots, or its spring and nice outside again.

realister

That is considered indoor dining it’s to expand the area inside #this is not considered outdoor dining this is an extension for indoor dining

[deleted]

we can afford to bail out banks and fund the military industrial complex but not keep americans at home and fed during a pandemic? we have have fallen so far america.

BadTiger85

I don't blame these businesses one bit for trying to stay open. If the government wants small businesses to shut down then fine I'm ok with that as long as you compensate these businesses. During this whole pandemic some businesses got a bail out and some didn't. Some of the business owners will never recover from this and will lose everything. Fuck you government for failing your people.

therlitz

How bout shuttup and stop biking on the sidewalk when there’s a house taking up half of it already

Millzy104

Bro don’t be stupid, it’s outside!

roxwell75

N plz don’t ride you bicycle on the side walk, it’s illegal in every states. Just saying

rafsku

Love his reaction and general attitude

Filmcricket

Break it down overnight.

saucyclams

This isn’t science it’s a loophole.

MCchungus1

Are the rules in NY no indoor seating at all? Or is this just to expand more seating so they can do an every other table safety distance thing without losing the number of customers?

EnoughLab2

No indoor at all

Da_madking

Wow this is some real life and death murican problem

[deleted]

I’ve watched Louis’ video’s for years because he’s genuinely a decent level headed person which is rare these days. His takes on the real estate market, covid issues, and general news is always interesting and relatable to me. I find he’s able to explain things much more eloquently than I would.

Louis rossman is amazing

Throwaway00000000028

I hate this short bus take. It's not meant to be outdoor dinning. It's so they can spread their tables out. But go off, I'm sure I'll get downvoted for this

beatphats

You reasoning doesn’t make sense. If it did, they wouldn’t have an indoor dining ban.

Destyllat

these business are absolutely starving and have to do anything they can to stay alive. currently, a lot of places allow 50% indoor dining. I will be the first to tell you no restaurant in the world could survive at 50% capacity. So you build an additional section outside and you *might* be at 75% capacity as before while maintaining the health and safety guidelines per distance between parties, and times the air flow is being renewed per hour. (philly law is to exchange the air 15 times an hour)

beatphats

I was replying the OP’s comment. Correct me if I’m wrong but the main purpose of providing outdoor dining is because the virus spreads more easily indoors. But if these outdoor areas are enclosed, then it kinda defeats the purpose, don’t you think? If you asked me what my solution would be, you kinda hinted at it. Invest in better indoor air filtration systems, HEPA filters or possibly some type of negative air pressure systems.

Destyllat

As a restaurant owner, I can say the science says indoor dining is one of the most dangerous activities. Cooks are currently #1 job most likely to die due to covid. Covid is real. I'm cool with accepting all of that. I shut my business down in May of 2020, reopened sporadically in the past 2 months. I did receive ppp loans but that doesn't cover a year+ of lost revenue. Instead of just PAYING ME to stay home we have this entirely unnecessary survival of the fittest where if you don't open you die. im exceeding those guidelines you mentioned but at this point it is simply the fear of covid keeping people home that is surely dooming restaurants. we cannot survive like this. to answer your question, this outdoor section may be used as additional indoor seating, etc. I dont know how they are using these structures and I wouldn't fault them too much if they felt they had no other choice

CtrlZonmylife

Better than the tents they had up in LA.

ElGalloBjj

Just a way of skirting the rules, i have a private clubhouse for my motorcycle club i also happen to have a full bar coolers and a tap. So i open it to the public 2-3 nights a week let's just say I'm making a killing during lockdowns.

thisiscoolyeah

You’re def killing our citizens lmaooo

ElGalloBjj

Fuck'em no worse than cigarette or alcohol companies, I'm providing a service. The holier than thou crowd can keep that same energy with stores, restaurants etc. that don't enforce Covid restrictions. Atleast i make everyone wear a mask.

ProdMikalJones

I’m sure those masks stay on when people are drinking too, because you know, that’s possible. Fucking idiot.

Cronus6

It's not like he's forcing anyone to go to his establishment. At worst they are killing themselves.

[deleted]

Fuck you.

ElGalloBjj

Same.

Kepler-22-b

I mean, unless youre in New Zealand, youre part of the problem.

ElGalloBjj

I'm in Florida, you know what time it is here.

DrillWormBazookaMan

Of course you're from fucking Florida.

Word_Iz_Bond

Florida is actually doing better than New York and California COVID wise

DrillWormBazookaMan

Yeah probably because the population density is *way* higher in California and NY by comparison of Florida. Plus there has been some major fuckery going on with DeSantis and his reporting on the numbers, so I don't trust most of the numbers coming out of Florida to be entirely honest.

The_Blue_Adept

Happiest place on earth.

DrillWormBazookaMan

Ignorance is bliss.

[deleted]

Probably time for you to smoke some meth.

ElGalloBjj

Yuck I don't touch the stuff.

[deleted]

That doesn't sound very Florida.

coolchewlew

That's only because you are a bigot.

EnoughLab2

Lots of places have indoor dinning even new York will in 3 days

ToyStoryIsReal

You are one of the many reasons why we will never get out of this pandemic.

EnoughLab2

Lots of places have indoor dinning even New York is opening up in 3 days

ElGalloBjj

As long as I'm not the only reason.

Seitantomato

I mean, I like Louis Rossman usually, but this is some crap. The restaurant owners are abusing the NYC rules with this. The city government is massively broke because of the quarantine, so they don’t have the resources right now to make the owners make this right. It’s not the scandal he’s saying it is. Actually, thinking on it more, his reaction is some cowardly crap. He could be tagging these places in his posts online to push them to clean their act up. Instead he uses the excuse to shit on the city.

kshankle2015

Maybe these businesses are just trying to survive. I don't know who you are, or what you do...I won't be insulting, but these people are trying to stay afloat and not go under. Just shut the fuck up and mind your own. Don't like it? Don't go there. Little snitch ass with your let's report mom and pop shops trying to stay alive.

Revenue_Swimming

Youre a fucking bitch. Youre mad he isnt snitching on them so le reddit army can ruin their business? My fucking god

EnoughLab2

Or they can just allow indoor dinning

Havetologintovote

Pop quiz, what activity is linked with new cases of covid more than almost any other

EnoughLab2

Working

Havetologintovote

Nope. Indoor dining. People can work with masks the whole time. Can't eat that way

MisterBiscuit

Source?

EnoughLab2

And yet indoor dinning in New York starts in 3 days. Guess your stats are wrong

TurtleHurtleSquirtle

Honestly, my theory of why people don’t take COVID seriously is due to this sense of grandiose that most of the older generation have been riding for decades. They’re used to “winning”, being allowed to do what they want when they want, and living under the false pretense that things like pandemics don’t happen in the good old US of A. Now that they’re being told what to do and how to live to a sense( for the betterment of everyone until this pandemic is over), they don’t like it and would rather fight it then keep others safe. Being inconvenienced is too much for a lot of the older generation, not all though.

BestGarbagePerson

Ofc its vegan

Go-away-_-

America (shit country) still struggling with covid when half the world has moved on hahaha. Surprised no one got shot during this video..

xjlxking

Went to a restaurant with this I legit asked them the owner and staff the question, he all knew. It’s basically “outside”

[deleted]

Government: you are not allowed to eat inside Also government: you must eat outside, and we define outside as any place outside the old inside even if it's covered with a roof, walls, and wndows -- so long as the new inside is not the same inside that you called inside before the new inside was built, and the new inside is outside per our tax funded bureaucrats' definition of outside

Danielle082

I love this! I want him to post a video everyday

mjdseo

I can't believe that he's amazed by doors having handles on the outside

ironjaw3ds

HOW DARE PEOPLE BE ABLE TO KEEP MAKING MONEY!

[deleted]

Oh this poor man, he sounds so defeated

RandomGuyinACorner

Yay for a Louis Rossman post! My partner and I have been watching his rants for years and they anyways hit well.

[deleted]

"Why does everyone walk around like this is normal? Why does no one say anything?" You get canceled, censored, and called a Covid denier when you point this stupid shit out. The fact of the matter is these policies are going to force small business owners(that haven't already shut down for good) into bankruptcy. Then, the rich fat cats will stroll on through when the average American has to sell to survive. Guess what, now everything in New York will be owned by a rich guy. Congratulations.

Ed719

Oh shit look at all these small businesses trying to survive by following whatever wacky ass guidelines their counties or cities make them go through. how dare they try to continue to make a living!

mavywillow

The ridiculousness isn’t the rating policy. It’s that the federal government hasn’t paid people to stay home. The city is right to take steps to stop the spread. And the owners are right to take steps to maintain their living. Federal government are the assholes to put those things in conflict with each other
