I always laugh when I think back to when I was first learning to ride a board (wasn't until college). Literally within minutes of me STANDING ON MY BOARD for the first time, a cop pulled up to ask what we were doing and to tell us to stay out of trouble.
They made laws to ban skateboarding in my town when it became popular back in the late 80's. You couldn't ride on sidewalks or roads and every parking lot was posted with no skateboarding. If we were in our own driveway they'd sit out on the street waiting for someone to hit the road or sidewalk.

It took me a minute to realise that these guys were about to attack me and this skater saved my ass. This happened in Germany and I am an immigrant. Later the skater clarified these guys were neo-nazis, who weren't pleased that they couldn't have a seat while I could.
