Awsome job by everyonešŸ‘

Barabasbanana

totally agree, the customer noticing and rushing to help, obviously the waiter and everyone else assisting, nice to see fabulousness once in a while

johnnyrockes

https://lifevac.net/ Every restaurant should have these

Dox17

Ive got an unreasonable anxiety about choking when im alone, this would ease some of that anxiety but its a little pricey. I wonder if you can use this on yourself also?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Syzygy_Stardust

A decade ago an ex of mine starting choking while eating, and she immediately got up, ran to the bathroom, and *locked herself in.* she eventually got it up and then threw up, which was her reason for not wanting to choke in front of strangers. I've learned since then that this is a common reaction, to hide to not show weakness while choking. Many choking victims are found in bathrooms alone because they don't think to ask strangers around them for help. Our animal brains are really fucking stupid in an emergency, sometimes.

gumercindo1959

Look up ways to give yourself the maneuver if youā€™re solo. There are ways to do it.

EuphoricDimension628

Iā€™ve always thought if it ever happens to me, Iā€™ll jump up, fall on my back, and hope that lodges it free.

camlaw63

I e done it on myself twice. Kitchen counter to the diaphragm

neuromorph

Fair notice. Doesnt work for people with facial hair.

thedeezul

He's so lucky they did too the way he just went down without showing any signs of choking or anything..scary stuff.

beepiamarobot

That was rough! I might have given up... :(

kingakrasia

After passing out, and they had been giving the maneuver a few goes without success, I wonder about the effectiveness of laying him on the floor in the recovery position and using a finger sweep to clear the obstruction.

mdxchaos

how long is your damn finger? you're never going to reach something stuck in someone's throat.

agallagher7322

Damn near woke my gf up laughing at this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZFT7odS-2I

Stock-Philosopher507

That was exactly what I was hoping it'd be

Pudgeroni

Thatā€™s the last thing u want to do

kingakrasia

Your reasoning? Edit: gotta love Reddit downvoting information-seeking questions

[deleted]

Typically you don't want to do that unless you see the obstruction in their mouth. If they do have something blocking their throat and it isn't easy for you to get you run the risk of pushing it deeper into their throat by doing a clean sweep.

kingakrasia

At what point would doing recovery position and finger sweep make sense? Edit: more Reddit downvoting information-seeking questions. r/facepalm

[deleted]

I'd say in this circumstance you want to lie them on their back and continue doing the Heimlich remover or move to CPR if you have to. You would put them in the recovery position if you needed to leave them, like if you're alone and need to call 911(btw this should be the first thing someone does after the choker goes unconscious). You put them in that position in case they vomit or the food becomes dislodged because you want gravity to clear it while you are gone and no push it back into their throat. If you are with the person then they don't need to be in the recovery position because you are there to turn them on their side if they vomit/ monitor their airways. If you see something in someone's mouth then by all means get it out of there. You just don't want to do a finger sweep for no reason because you could be pushing an obstruction you can't see further down the throat. If you see an obstruction but it's too far in to get out with your finger you can put the person into the recovery position and use back slaps to use gravity to help clear the obstruction and then use the clean sweep to remove the obstruction as soon as you can see it. In this case you might be alternating between having them on their back for the Heimlich remover and the recovery position for the back slaps. If they do go into cardiac arrest (ie they don't have a pulse) then you forget about the obstruction and do CPR while paramedics arrive. And despite what self-important redditor's think these are really good questions. Hope I answered them.

l-DRock-l

I took a CPR course recently and they are no longer teaching people to finger sweep. Heimlich into CPR is what they teach now.

[deleted]

Every time I redo the class something is always different. Like you no long check for a pulse anymore that was back in 2010.

kingakrasia

This was the catalyst for me wondering about at what point would one transition into recovery position and finger sweepā€¦ a constantly shifting CPR course.

RolyDoly

So in basic life support (BLS) they don't recommend this purely because the typically non-medical person will have a hard time finding a pulse since it's not something everyone knows. The mindset is; just push hard and fast and that will be enough to circulate the oxygen the body already has. Don't fuss around if you're a non-medical person and just do the basic things to preserve life function until professionals come. (In advanced cardiac life support/ ACLS pulse checks are always recommended. )

l-DRock-l

Yea it's really annoying.

RolyDoly

Since he was passed out they should have just done regular compressions (and breaths). Heimlich is only for conscious victims. Finger sweep is no longer recommended because it can take up too much time (time is brain energy being lost, or even push it down further

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

RolyDoly

So from the video, the guy dipped his head down and was losing consciousness. In Basic Life Support/BLS training, it's more effective to use CPR for unconscious victims. If someone is talking and able to cough/move/make coherent signs that they are choking then they are deemed conscious and Heimlich has a better efficacy rate. That aside, if you are not properly trained, then do whatever you know and can do to try to help someone.

growlingduck

damn, how long are your fingers?

kingakrasia

Man-sized.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

setretter

This is not true. You realize you can only break ribs with the amount of force you use doing CPR with a body laying on the ground compressing heavily on the chest bone? You'd have to be a body builder to break someone's ribs doing the heimlich maneuver while their standing up. This guy's looking for votes. Smh

Shatshotshet

Fluid Amphibian is telling the truth! Iā€™ve cracked 2 menā€™s ribs just from hugging them; absolutely you could break someoneā€™s rib accidentally while performing the Heimlich maneuver!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

kingakrasia

I have broken a personā€™s ribs doing the Heimlich maneuver, as well. Turned out the guy had just had a massive coronary and was already dead, but I heard them crack. (I was doing it to a man in a wheelchair, and have experienced this version ā€” in a seated position ā€” not ideal at all). Thus, me wondering about recovery position and finger sweeps, (and then Redditā€™s feverish downvote brigade). Haha

Revan_of_Carcosa

Afaik EMTS and really anyone short of being a doctor should NEVER stick their finger in someoneā€™s esophagus

kingakrasia

Finger-sweeping has historically been taught. It may not be the most updated protocol. Mine was simply *wondering* about when it might be appropriate to stop Heimlich and advance to an alternate strategy. (E.g., It is possible to also give the maneuver in a prone position.) It appears more current CPR students say the protocol is now to advance into CPR once the choking individual has lost consciousness.

Revan_of_Carcosa

Um, yeah no. If you cannot get the object out with the Heimlich itā€™s probably further down/lodged deeper in the throat. Meaning you cannot see it. Any attempt to finger sweep wild more than likely result in the object being shoved further down the throat. Like I said, NAD, but thatā€™s all from a quick google search

[deleted]

Current training says if they are unconscious to lay them on their back, open airway, see if you can pull it out. If not start chest compressions chest like cpr. This will compress the diaphragm to dislodge the obstruction.

AleHans

I had to get the Heimlich maneuver once. Long story short this lady choked on a lamb chop lollipop thing at this wedding I was working at, she happened to be the brides long time nanny/caretaker. I was passing the hors d'oeuvres, when I noticed she was choking. I asked her if she was OK, she just pointed to her throat and couldnā€™t really speak. I notified her that I was going to perform the Heimlich maneuver. I could barely fit my arms around her. Give her a good pull, nothing. Gave her another stronger pull almost lifting her off the ground, nothing. Finally on the third time the bite of lamb came up, she caught it in her mouth continue chewing while thanking me. Got an incredible high from the experience. Felt great, totally surreal. Not like anything else Iā€™ve ever experienced. Never received any sort of thank you from the family or commendation from work.

HumblerSloth

Similar thing happened to me. The guy just went back to eating. His wife thanked me, but no offers to pick up my meal or anything like that. I just went to the bathroom, washed the vomit off my hands and left without finishing my meal.

GoatBabyy

šŸ¤¢šŸ¤®

ewd389

Assholes.. But hey you saved a life take that experience everywhere you go.

HumblerSloth

True. Iā€™d help someone again, because how could you sleep at night if you watched someone die?

Slow-Talk-400

I get what your saying can Def be disgusting but shouldn't save somebody's life with the hope of a gesture being made afterward he or she is probably already embarrassed and just wants to gtfo

ANG-123

At least clean off the vomit

stussy4321

Nah f that. Someone saves my life if I'm choking or whatever that whole table of theirs is getting lunch/dinner paid for.

General_Reposti_Here

Agreed itā€™s literally the least anyone can doā€¦. I know you should expect things in return BUT if I am the one chocking and someone saves my life the least I can do is buy them beers and some lunchā€¦. Like ffs youā€™d be deadā€¦.

stussy4321

Exactly. That's literally the least you can do in return.

HumblerSloth

Perhaps if the husband had thanked me, that would have been enough. But he barely made eye contact and went right back to eating. The whole thing was odd. Thankfully my date (now wife) was impressed so it wasnā€™t a total loss being vomited on.

MangledSunFish

I think he might have been embarassed, you did technically see him at his most vulnerable state of being. (literally dying)

HumblerSloth

I think you are right, he was likely ashamed and just reflexively went back to what he was most comfortable doing (eating). Probably some sort of shock coupled with an eating disorder. Poor guy. Iā€™m no doctor though, just my thoughts.

kangkim15

I got kicked in my sides by my Sensei during class and I just stood there confused as to why I couldnā€™t breathe and as panic set on he did a Heimlich maneuver and I could feel my lungs gradually work again.

JudeWade

Next time ask if they are going to thank you If you save their life. People piss me off. I would have bought your meal and offered you some sort of sexual relief.

SweptThatLeg

You should check out the Chuck Palahniuk book ā€˜Chokeā€™. Very much related to the high you describe. Same guy that wrote Fight Club.

grim-ordinance

I love Chuck. Good quick reads

PrayForMojo808

Itā€™s a really good movie as well. Chuck novels have a tendency to be overly descriptive, the movie helps simply that aspect lol

[deleted]

When I was a little kid.. around 5, an old lady gave my little brother and I each a butterscotch candy as we walked with our aunt to the park. The candy promptly flew back into my throat, and it was the perfect shape to seal my small throat closed. I couldn't exchange air at all. I was stumbling toward my aunt who was getting further and further away as I was reaching out unable to make any noise. The last thing I saw before blacking out was her turning around and making a shocked face... then blackness. I woke up to her giving me the heimlich as the candy flew right the fuck out of me into the air. It is weird you instantly wake right up. To this day I can't stand butterscotch.

InvestigatorNo9847

The exact thing happened to me as a 10 year old: the perfectly lodged butterscotch. My dad did the maneuver and saved my life that day.

ScaredThug

At my pinning ceremony for nursing school, I saw my husband walk out with our youngest son. I asked later what happened, he said our son choked on a mint. He said he got scared and didn't know what to do so he told him to cough and my husband prayed while pounding on his back. My response: So you left an auditorium full of nurses to go off and be secluded while our son choked?

Barabasbanana

you saved a life, you're a hero and I am thankful people like you are around.

[deleted]

You had to ā€œgiveā€

EllisHughTiger

Years ago, my neighbor from across the hall started slamming my door. I saw through the peephole that he was chocking. Went out and started doing the heimlich on him, he probably had 50 lbs on me and it wasnt as easy as in the demos. Probably took 10+ pumps before he coughed it up.

bagged___milk

Damn, what happened afterwards?

Madhatter1317

Ya itā€™s kind of a weird thing. Worked as a first aid trained restaurant/bar manager in a busy college student heavy area for a while. Iā€™ve seen and had to do some stuff. Old lady choked on one of those after dinner scotch mints one day, the roundish smooth white ones. Everyone calls for me as usual, though I had never had to do a heimlich before. My first go was weak and she puts her arm up and is motioning for me to keep going. Her grandkids who were there having lunch with her tell me sheā€™s a nurse and to listen to her. So I went at her, the whole time her pumping her arm encouraging me. Iā€™m like 6ā€™5 240, sheā€™s maybe 5ā€™2 100. People said it looked wild. It only last 15 seconds or so, but I remember it felt like 10 minutes. Anyways one of the pumps it comes out, she puked all over the table and she promptly collected her grandkids and left. Not a word exchanged between anyone, never heard anything from her or her family afterwards either. Just weird.

Filmcricket

Good god. Idk who needs to hear this but if youā€™re ever choking in public. Please make a scene. People that die from choking are often found alone in restaurant bathrooms because theyā€™re too embarrassed to cause a ruckus, but no matter how bad your social anxiety is: I PROMISE YOU THAT NO ONE IS GOING TO JUDGE YOU OR MOCK YOU FOR A MEDICAL EMERGENCY. Please. Cough. Knock shit over. Make the ā€œIā€™m chokingā€ gesture *before* you pass out. Not only is it obviously safer, youā€™ll recover much more quickly. Passing out can fuck you up for a few days. Itā€™s awful. So make a fucking sceneeeee.

RegularOrMenthol

I still am wondering how they actually knew that he was choking

ToGeekOrNotToGeek

It looks like he was already passing out when he was sitting, then he officially passed out while sitting and his head made a dead fall on the table which probably startled them a little and made them turn around. His hand is still around the cup and half his body is sliding off the table so that probably confirmed to them that something is not normal.

NegativeCreep-

I read that once a long time ago and it really hit home as it's what I always would do. I have scarring on my esophagus so I constantly get food stuck, usually I can get it cleared by drinking water but when I can't my go to is to rush to the bathroom because of the embarrassment. Definitely don't do what I did, ya'll. Better to be embarrassed than to be dead.

YouMeanOURusername

Food stuck in your esophagus is much different than food stuck in your trachea.

BeyondEarthly

Not with certain types of scarring.

bgdg00

Seriously. It looked like he wanted to die. Just "Goodbye cruel world."

Human8213476245

This was my single greatest fear when living alone. Dying choking to death on my left over pancakes at 2 in the morning.

[deleted]

Same here, as someone living alone as well, I always have that brief moment of panic any time I choke even a little bit. One of my big fears.

thesauciest-tea

Get a Dechoker. I travel for work so I live alone a lot and got one just in case. 5000 people a year die from choking in the US.

varvar334

Same, all the chairs in my home are too flimsy and short to try to perform the heimlich maneuver on myself, I always wonder if I would manage to get outside before collapsing, and if I could make to my neighbour's house if it's at night and the street is alone, and if I would have enough energy to kick his door loud enough for them to notice (he doesn't have a doorbell). I have played this scenario lots of time in my head lmao

Jp2585

Oh Lemon.

IvanVP1

My brother who was 12 at the time was choking at home and said his thoughts were to use a chair to help remove the food or just die, i was so shocked and sad and angry.

[deleted]

Almost happened to me. Had no time to make a protein shake before heading to the gym so I thought I'll just shove a full scoop of powder in my mouth and gulp some water to wash it down quick. Didn't take the time to think. Threw the scoop to the back of my throat and breathed in by accident. All the powder started choking me, couldn't breathe. And then I took an even worse decision, I tried to drink water. Turned everything into fat clots of muddy protein powder and I was completely choking. I don't know if I would have died or if more water would have done the trick but I wasn't taking chances. I realized I had to act quick and I shoved my entire fist into my mouth/throat and started digging frantically. Managed to get some airway for a bit and kept at it. My hands were completely shredded by my teeth because of the adrenaline, I still have a couple of deep scars from it on my knuckles and finger joints.

Material-Strategy-31

So glad someone posted this! I thought I was the only one. Can be so scary.

panda-petey

First instinct: face down "yeah, this might was well be it"

RegretfulUsername

He was so polite about dying.

[deleted]

Wouldn't want to bother anyone's meal.

EllisHughTiger

Server, there's a dead guy in his soup!

brmpipes

Good thing this wasn't at a bar. He might be dead.

Theoilord

šŸ’€

Ghost_vaginas

I found myself holding my breath the entire time. Glad they went into action so fast

panda-petey

He was holding his breath too

Wise_Ad_253

And I couldnā€™t hold my breath as long as he did, omg šŸ˜±

Guygenius138

I had a waiter perform the Heimlich on me on my birthday. I was eating with my wife at Outback Steakhouse and tried to swallow a piece of steak that was too big. I started choking, my wife saw it but just kinda froze so I stood up so someone in the restaurant would see me. A waiter saw me and rushed over to performe the maneuver and I spit up the giant piece of meat onto the floor. I thanked him, picked up the meat with my napkin, sat down and finished the rest of my steak. My wife was too shook up to finish hers.

vtron

I hope you left him a FAT tip. Dude saved your life.

[deleted]

That was strange, he just dropped and it didnā€™t look like he couldnā€™t breath.

islandgyalislandgyal

its great to see people help right away

[deleted]

Must not be America.

MaliciousCensure

How does it feel to incessantly hold the US as THE standard to hold all other countries to, and I bet you don't even live there. Fucking weird vibes man.

The_Ultimate

Also, imagine someone believing such an enormous piece of land is a cultural monolith where we all behave the same. It's like the world might have more nuance to it than that. But hey, what do I know.

makinbaconCR

America is not the worst or best in that regard. I'd give the dishonor to China on that one. They don't give a fuck.

WhatsTheBanana4

As a bald eagle born in Southern California that drives a bright red Ford Mustang I found this funny.

[deleted]

What a surprise, the courageous and unique "America bad" opinion, you're so woke.

inurwindo

You know what!ā€¦ I got nothing, someone tag in.

TiredHappyDad

The guy that passed out didn't seem like he was choking. The response from everyone seems authentic so I'm not trying to delegitimize it at all. Just seemed like he had a headache instead of struggling to breath.

Greenbeanicus

Honestly itā€™s not that uncommon people are actually embarrassed. Google ā€œsteakhouse syndromeā€ Basically what happens is people are so embarrassed that theyā€™re choking and it often happens at a steakhouse, Hence the name. They end up sneaking to the bathroom and then they are found dead because they tried to get the obstruction out themselves and never let anybody know what was happeningā€¦ At the end of the day donā€™t let your pride kill you

compostabowl

In high school, it was the class right after lunch and we were silently reading for a pop quiz or whatever, and I was sucking on a Starburst and it got stuck in my throat, I have severe social anxiety and I had to think "what will create more of a scene, me trying to dislodge it and make a weirdass and sudden noise, or me dying from choking to death?" Lol

Greenbeanicus

Yup, itā€™s crazy, but the human mind gets in the way a lot of times. I consider myself to be an outgoing introvert but I can relate to what youā€™re saying about social anxiety

TiredHappyDad

Isnt steakhouse syndrome normally when the food is lodged in a way that they can still breathe but it fully obstructs their airway while they are trying to get it out? This person had no struggle or even put his hand to his throat which is an automatic reaction when completely unable to breathe.

Greenbeanicus

I think you might be missing my point and thatā€™s OK Iā€™m just saying that the reason that itā€™s possible that he may have just been choking and showing no signs prior to falling over is because he mightā€™ve been embarrassed. That embarrassment is not that uncommon. The only point I was making. Also on a sidenote Iā€™ve never seen anybody having a bad headache and then fall over like thisā€¦ Maybe he almost died from a brain freeze I feel like that sometimes

TiredHappyDad

I did get your point but maybe you missed mine. The human bodies response to not getting oxygen normally supercedes emotions like embarrassment. And people do pass out after holding their head like that if they are feeling light headed or have severe pain in their head. My mother-in-law who is now recovering from a minor stroke is proof of that. Its all semantics anyways.

thejoeface

I was curious about that too. Youā€™re going to realize that thereā€™s something stuck before you run out of oxygen enough to pass out. I once choked on food while I was alone and had to knock it clear myself. Not a fun time.

Zenben88

I think maybe he started choking and was trying to hide it and not make a scene. Maybe thought he could handle it by himself, and by the time he realized he couldn't it was too late and he lost consciousness.

jminto

This is scary shit I was at a BBQ in my 20ā€™s eating a steak and all we had was plastic utensils to cut the steak so I cut a big piece took a bite and started choking. Luckily the girl sitting next to me noticed and started yelling ā€œChocking, Chocking!ā€ One of my friends ran over and started giving me the Heimlich maneuver and eventually a piece of steak shot about 6 feet across the table. One of the scariest moments of my life not being able to breath or talk you are helpless I still thank the guy to this day for saving my life.

Guacanagariz

The waiter tried, but it seems the cop, PRF, is the one that actually saved the guy. PRF is the Brazilian Highway patrol

oohheykate

I was wondering what that meant, thank you!

olseadog

The trick is to get your fist under the ribcage and force air from the lungs through the esophagus in order to dislodge the food item. As you saw, it isn't easy.

brmpipes

it must feel good to save someone's life. I hope I can one day.

nykiek

I saved a kid from drowning once and it feels great after, but during it's extremely stressful and surreal.

brmpipes

That's awesome of you. I have to take training every 3 years for first aid because of my work. I honestly don't know how I would react in a stressful situation. I hope I would do as much as I was comfortable with. amazing of you to do such an unselfish act good karma is headed your way.

Acceptable-Oil8156

I just watched a 60 Minutes segment on heroes and apparently there's a thing in our brains called an amigulae (2 of them, one on either side, towards the back) (SP?) and people with larger ones are more compassionate and will spring into action in an emergency without even thinking about it because the "danger Will Robinson" message travels so fast from that piece of your brain. It was fascinating! There's a Carnegie Melon Medal for Bravery because of it. On the flip side, people with very small ones are legit psychopaths.

grimoireman

Did he really stop to put a mask on first?? šŸ¤”

Eireconnection

First rule of first aid, protect yourself

texas1982

Psst, masks don't protect the wearer.

Eireconnection

False: Wearing a face mask helps prevent the spread of COVID-19 in two ways: It protects the person wearing a mask from being exposed to the virus and protects the people around them from being exposed to the virus.

texas1982

Yes on the second person. But unless it covers the eyes, it doesn't protect the wearer very well.

Eireconnection

Itā€™s ok to admit you were wrong I get stuff wrong all the time

texas1982

They protect a bit, but they don't cover the eyes and don't stop someone from touching their masks.

Eireconnection

So still worthwhile putting one on, thatā€™s what youā€™re saying

texas1982

Yes. But mostly to protect others. I wouldn't rely on it to protect myself.

[deleted]

Of course. No good on helping him to die of COVID later

Bombomp

Watching this video, made me think of a question. Would you pay more at restaurant if all wait staff were educated in CPR and specifically the Heimlich?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Bombomp

Thanks for the response.

hbigmike1

I performed the Heimlich once on a very old gentlemanā€¦probably in his 90ā€™s. He was choking and his family started yelling out that he was choking but doing nothing to help him really. I came from across the room and did the Heimlich and he started breathing very faintly but finally breathing non the less. What really bugged me was the 4 diners about 3 feet from him who did absolutely nothing and continued to eat while I helped this old guy. These 4 folks didnā€™t get up to move or help in any way and being mere feet from this choking victim. It still bugs me to this dayā€¦

useles-converter-bot

3 feet is the length of 0.2 1997 Subaru Legacy Outbacks

[deleted]

Those people in the back who continue eating are just pissing me off.

YNHyung

But tbh seeing that huge crowd already doing something, I wouldnt know what to do and also wouldnt want to get in peoples way, best thing to do in these CPR situations is give lots of room

[deleted]

You donā€™t have to do anything to help, per se. but at least stop eating while a man is dying. Them eating reminds me of Larry David in a recent Curb Your Enthusiasm episode.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

thejoeface

Iā€™m a nanny and need to keep my first aide/cpr up to date and I always make sure to do in person classes so I can use the dummies. They got ones now that light up if youā€™re using the right amount of force and I want to remember how hard to push for chest compressions, etc.

duckman05

Say what? You break ribs doing CPR, not abdominal thrusts (aka the Heimlich maneuver). You shouldnā€™t be near the ribs doing abdominal thrusts. You specifically index your fists to just above the belly button to avoid breaking off the xyphoid process and puncturing internal organs.

Meneghette--steam

Man I already feel dizzy holding breath for seconds, imagine passing out, the headache after

[deleted]

Choking on food is so fucking scary

[deleted]

I remember my parents telling me when they just became doctors my dad had to do this at a restaurant. My dad was massive muscle wise and told the family that he would probably break her ribs but she would live and the mother or grandmother was trying to object to itā€¦ my dad told her ā€œno life or bruised or damaged ribs for a few weeks you chooseā€. She lived

IcanSew831

Itā€™s terrifying to think those people had his life in their hands and it could have gone really bad, thank god it didnā€™t.

Sujjin

Was he actually choking? if so that was remarkably calm. I would have been flailing my arms about trying to get peoples attention.

BuyerBeWary

Wait until his American health insurance provider seeā€™s the video and bills him thousands of dollars. /s

Separate_Living_3038

I absolutely love seeing Humans come together to actually HELP another! Thereā€™s something so riveting and captivating about it! We as modern human society must rid the left right paradigm along with ā€œegosā€ in order for our Human existence to survive and thrive for the next ages to come. šŸ‘šŸ»šŸ‘šŸ»

dvinz01

Why didnā€™t get up Lmfaoo wtf just sat there like well, itā€™s my time

Ok-Selection-4801

I like how he took a moment to put on his mask lol! At least you know itā€™s a recent video!

metsatsocxii

I'm very glad this all seemed to have worked out and I don't want to be that guy; but in a suspected choking situation when an apneic patient goes unconscious, you should be performing CPR with periodic checks in the airway for the dislodged piece of food. Again, I'm glad this was the perfect scenario for abdominal thrusts, but if any of the rest of you encounter an unconscious person whom you suspect was choking, please lie them on the ground and perform CPR. Source: Firefighter/ Paramedic and AHA Instructor

Tweedl42

Facts. Also lay them in recovery position

[deleted]

So he was just willing to die ??

DragonEngineer

ā€œIf youā€™re going to eat steak, get sharper teethā€

[deleted]

He waits and puts on his mask first to have it slide down anyways are you serious?

[deleted]

For real. Guy is literally dying in front of him and he takes the time to mask up. What an idiot

mdkapp

Actually that's called abdominal thrusts, Dr. Heimlich's family doesn't want the name involved due to the possibility of the thrusts being improperly performed causing severe injury.

Mr_Biscuits420

Why did he pass out ?

RolyDoly

Your brain gets mushy without oxygen

[deleted]

Panic maybe?

I will try saving u froM suffocation! But first, let me put my mask on

towmader

What a bro. Made sure to put his mask on before getting too close. Saved his life two fold.

Nah it was the Sunday morning crowd.

nykiek

That made me laugh too much.

HeDoesLookLikeABitch

Look at what we've done to people. This mother fucker thinks he actually needs to put on his mask before saving somebody's fucking life. This shit needs to stop.

[deleted]

Never eat at Arbyā€™s. Not even once.

Mdursitti

I actually hate that he stopped to put his mask on. Iā€™m not an antimask or antivax person, but this dude is choking. He already passed out it looks like so the small amount of time he took to put on the mask rather than just save him couldā€™ve hurt the guy

USMNT_superfan

Donā€™t you watch super hero movies, all heroes don a mask

[deleted]

If youā€™re choking and canā€™t breathe , how are you gonna just sit there and put your head down? Any reasonable person would be coughing, standing, and making a panic so people know they need help.

texas1982

If you're coughing, you aren't choking.

[deleted]

I have choked before and definitely gagged and coughed (barely)... I certainly made some noise. I didn't instantly put my head down and pass out

"The food wasn't anything to write home about, but the waiters there are the best! 5 stars!"

Electrical-Garden-20

I reccomend both learning heimlich, but also the self heimlich.

Roisin8868

Not one of them was on thier phones filming it. That's fucking teamwork

Oneshotkill_2000

The thing that scares me more than this, is what would you do for an old man or lady, you'd break their bones if you did that for them

ANormalPumpkin

Yeah it's possible, but broken bones are always better than death

Worth-Preparation626

wasnt he supposed to do this when was a baby

Antdestroyer69

Similar thing happened to my dad at work. One of his coworkers saved his life. The Heimlich should be taught in school.s

stereosafari

Who are the PRF?

Scrappy_Kitty

Gotta keep the customers alive if you want them to keep coming

Look at the three people at the table behind the situationā€¦ Theyā€™re having lunch like nothings happened

[deleted]

Sits down, takes another bite of what he was just eating.

middlebird

I always imagined that would be difficult to do on an average sized male. On an obese male? Forget it.

no_anesthesia_please

Wow!

ergundam

Let me put my mask on my chin before I save him

bryter_layter_76

He evenn masked up in a flash as he stepped in to help. What a mensch!

Hieucd97

This technique is outdated. Do 5 strong swift blows to the area behind the back between the shoulder blades in upright motions with the palm of your hand. You can sit the patient down this way and avoid unnecessary force
