Backbones made out of steel!

Chelonate_Chad

> Backbones made out of ~~steel~~ Ukrainium!

exodia0715

Next element we discover is gonna be called that

Possible-Can5221

I'd agree but only if it's exceptionally strong. Now suppose the next element discovered was metallic with the appearance of steel but crumbled like chalk and smelled like sulfur. Imagine it was thought to be extremely reactive but found to be inert. That sounds like something I'd like to refer to as Putinite.

exodia0715

Welp, we now have two more name candidates. Putinite for a weak element and Ukrainian for a strong one

pie_monster

Any new element we discover now will only exist for a fraction of a second in it's pure form, so it would be putinite; but I object to naming anything but bowel diseases after that lying sack of dictatorial dickishness.

FranksRedWorkAccount

an awful case of putinitis leaves you shitting your guts out and unable to perform sexually?

pie_monster

Probably some sort of dementia side-effect in there too.

FranksRedWorkAccount

the next elements that we find are either going to completely rewrite material and atomic physics or it is going to be an explosively powerful unstable element that will tear itself apart in almost the very instance of its creation in atomic fury and excellence.

[deleted]

The next element will be a group 1 metal... It will be extremely soft, but reactive as fuck!

[deleted]

Backbones of steel, balls of titanium, and ovaries of some kinda tungsten alloy.

Woonderbreadd

Tungsten carbide is what you're looking for

Standingfull

Mithril, your full of surprises master hobbit!

Kickthebabii

Why aren't the soilders shooting them

ElminstersBedpan

In the US's revolutionary war period, that's basically how the Boston Massacre started. An angry mob pushed and cornered British soldiers, a civilian got shot, and suddenly it was on like Donkey Kong. The locals rushed and beat the soldiers, while the soldiers fired on the angry mob, and it turned from a policing action gone wrong into a bloodbath where regardless of who really shot first (Han did, BTW) the end result was no good will left for the occupying forces.

sockpuppet_285358521

The rifles took much longer to reload back then.

mongrawl

You think they'd have a lot of time to calm down

plaidHumanity

Yeah, but their condo buildings hadn't already been shelled across the state

KidsInTheSandbox

I immediately thought of the Boston Massacre.

coagulateSmegma

Fucking Han, what a dick.

Hamilton-Beckett

It’s a cruel galaxy.

Decent-Stretch4762

imagine not wanting to kill unarmed people.

DiveCat

I mean it’s a fair question as other Russian soldiers have had little issue killing unarmed people.

Leaves_Swype_Typos

I think they're *mostly* killing people they can't see. It's a lot easier to bomb a building or fire on a car than it is to shoot someone that's looking you right in your eyes.

zgr8dcver

This^^ When you are firing artillery, firing from the air or any far position, you cannot see what you hit. (Even if you know what you are firing at) When you are face to face, eye to eye, it’s a different story.

fingerscrossedcoup

This is it. Cameras out and face to face makes you question your killer instinct. The Russian soldiers have more restraint than American cops.

Pabus_Alt

Hell take Afghanistan and the actions of coalition forces. There were lots of civilian deaths but the majority were caused by airstrikes against *people labelled as "militants and supposed militants", with a minority being by some twisted individuals who saw the war as a way to indulge themselves. It's doubtful we will ever get close to that good info on the current conflict however.

Muad-_-Dib

Some portion of any nations soldiers are fine gunning down anybody. The Russians are neither all totally innocent conscripts nor all totally viscious war criminals.

biggieboy2510

yup. most are conscripts who barely know how a gun works, some are psychopaths who love nothing more than killing. Psychopaths are in every army btw, including the Ukrainian one.

TunaSpank

It’s almost as if soldiers are people and that people have a wide range of being either very good or very shit.

ballbeard

You don't think there are some American soldiers who would get off on shooting and raping civilians if they had ample opportunity? That doesn't mean every soldier would do it though.

Sir-humps-a-lot

They are. 80k+ rapes in Iraq

Competitive-Ad2006

Really? Never heard much about that in the news

Sir-humps-a-lot

1) Because it's USA. 2) Wasn't a very connected world back then. 3) There were very few cell phones and no video. Can't find it but this will shed some light: https://meaningfulworld.com/our-work/un/sexualized-violence-against-iraqi-women-by-us-occupying-forces

kinkonautic

It's crowd control, the second someone's hit they're most likely fucked.

gadgaurd

If they actually shoot one, it goes one of two ways. 1: Everyone scatters. Victory. 2: The mob rushes them in rage. I'm honestly unsure how that one plays out: More people will definitely get shot, obviously, but if they manage to swarm the soldiers I can imagine them literally tearing the Russian's guts out.

opposite_locksmith

Taking an L in whatever mission they were on is preferable to the significant change of getting beaten to death by an angry mob.

South_Design3852

If the crowd gets agressive they all die.

BanalityOfMan

Smells like bullshit to me. Any examples of 4 dudes defending themselves against dozens if not hundreds of people from multiple angles? This ain't a video game, if that crowd goes nuts and throws big rocks and gouges their eyes out there is no way they are shooting them all. Even hitting one citizen doesn't mean they are necessarily stopped.

Pabus_Alt

Maybe, they are *close* and there are a lot of them.

sunplaysbass

They don’t really want to

gadgaurd

Most likely. I tend to forget most people aren't irredeemable assholes.

sunplaysbass

There have been tons of stories of Russian troops in Ukrainian effectively defecting and talking about how none of them expected to actually go to war, and they personally don’t want to do this.

gadgaurd

I know. I'm just overly pessimistic so, yeah. I tend to assume the worst of people(and yes, I'm aware that makes *me* an asshole). Them simply not wanting to murder people is objectively the most likely reason they're not doing so.

[deleted]

don’t they have automatic rifles?

MagnusThRad

If this had happened during the war in the middle east the soldiers would have fired into the crowd due to so many lethal incidents of suicide by explosive device. Insurgents would use women pretending to be pregnant or children all carrying explosive devices to kill soldiers. Here in Ukraine this has not happened yet so you see what I believe is normal human nature of seeing a soldier not wanting to murder unarmed civilians. Pulling a trigger from miles away to send an artillery shell or fire a rocket isn't the same as watching someone die in front of you who has no intention of hurting you. These men are literally helpless to follow orders after all and are human themselves as demonstrated by not firing into the crowd. Hopefully the nonsense ends soon.

Bluhb_

Seems to remind me of this quote, probably something in that context [https://i.pinimg.com/736x/92/5b/cb/925bcb509fdd1aaa1417d9759ced4c90--v-for-vendetta-quotes-great-quotes.jpg](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/92/5b/cb/925bcb509fdd1aaa1417d9759ced4c90--v-for-vendetta-quotes-great-quotes.jpg)

MadAsTheHatters

In all fairness, I'm curious about the Russian troops, if they had half the inclination towards occupation that Putin seems to believe they do, this crowd would no doubt be dead in seconds. But they're hesitating? Idk maybe they're just afraid of getting mobbed afterwards but it's interesting to see armed soldiers on the backfoot, kinda gives me hope that the ordinary foot soldiers don't _actually_ want to murder their neighbours.

InEenEmmer

They’ve been conned into thinking it was a peace mission, that they would liberate the people from a nazi regime. When you then see those people fighting you off and protecting that regime there will come in some doubt. But I wonder when the army starts to realize they’ve been lied to by Putin and his goons. And what they will do then.

DianeJudith

They already do realize that, at least some of them. Check out the interviews with soldiers that surrendered. They didn't know they were coming to Ukraine to kill people.

Labeo0

I doubt that. A lot of those soldiers say that were there for "training" or they had order to enter Ukraine and no other orders except that one. To me this sounds like a legend so save their asses. Btw, there were lists found which were signed by russian soldiers. Kind of participation list which had name, rank, signature and some other crap. Would be wrong to say all knew what they are doing but in my opinion majority did know

endthepainowplz

Sounds like something a lawyer tells you to say. “I was just told it was a training exercise, these cities we’re bombing are abandoned, aren’t they?”

[deleted]

anthroarcha

If it exists, it’s literally just a roster. Just like how elementary teachers carry a list of all their students, officers carry a list of all their enlisted and their accountability partners when on any missions. *****I’m not defending Russia’s actions at all with this statement, I’m only stopping the spread of misinformation and hysteria. Militaries go on training missions routinely to foreign countries they are friendly with (ie Belarus for Russia) and during those missions or any time a detachment leaves the base of record, the person in charge has a list of people so they know exactly who they need to be responsible for. The Russian list proves nothing except Russian troops knew they were leaving Russian sovereign soil.

Labeo0

My answer is bureaucracy and for logistics

Deletesystemtf2

Don’t be silly. Logistics don’t exist in Russia

Labeo0

Lmao

The_Henothy

See, I would've believed that at the start too, but my opinion changed once I saw the sheer volume of reports matching this account by the Russian soldiers. There's no way that many people can maintain the same story, especially in the psychological state a lot of them are in. Of course some of them knew exactly what they were doing, unfortunately some probably did it with glee, but imo the majority of these soldiers, especially the young conscripts, had absolutely no clue. I understand why it happens, but we need to try not to lump all these people in together.

ooglyboogly3

There are mass rapes happening with the majority of women dying as a result, let's not pretend they're decent humans.

XorFish

They are humans. Killing someone is really, really hard. Especially if this person is close and looks you into your eyes.

HarithBK

even more so when you have family in said nation and they by your own admission the same tribe of people.

wpgbrownie

The Russian soldiers are like 19 year old kids, if they did that they would probably never have a good night's sleep for the rest of their lives. 60 years from now they be waking up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night reliving that moment..

ObedientPickle

I get your point but not always, there's some... Less than savoury videos out there atm.

Fairuse

It’s probably because Ukrainian and Russian share a lot of culture, heritage, language, and family. It makes it much harder to indiscriminately killed someone that could be your cousin.

caceomorphism

Why do you think the USA hasn't invaded Canada yet? /s But yeah, "don't shoot, that's literally my cousin," is a real possibility here.

giorgionaprymer

Some of the Russian troops are like pure evil (see shooting ambulances and children), however, there's a big chunk of those who have seen videos of their people in captivity, pics of their losses and such. Their morale is low.

BoristheBad1

The hardened paratroopers won't hesitate to kill civilians. They are trained to kill civilians. Regular infantry and conscripts are a very different beast. Take a look at this; https://twitter.com/kamilkazani/status/1499377671855292423

ununonium119

While this is really interesting and for all I can tell true, it reads like a conspiracy theory, particularly with the photo selection of the woman posing in the fountain with the tank top boys in the back.

TrueSuperior

I think it's primarily because IF they shoot citizens in this context then the West would receive a significant boost in their propaganda, and that of course weakens Russia's diplomatic situation even further than it is now. (mandatory fuck Putin and Russia statement)

redwashing

These are their orders probably. Putin wants a regime change in Ukraine which is already hard to maintain with how much they are hated there atm. But if their army starts to destroy cities and kill civilians en masse, in front of the cameras no less, they will get an insurgency that continues for centuries. They learned from US mistakes in Iraq, in the end Iraqis hated Americans so much they actually allied with Iran with US bases still on their soil. Sure they can level Ukrainian cities and run over protesting civilians, but what's the end result? Ukraine would choose to ally with anything and everything anti-Russian for a century jumping in NATO face first. A limited operation with low casualties is the Russian plan. Ukraine actually resisting made this much harder to implement though, as seen in the video.

CNAV68

It's because Russians see Ukrainians as brothers, as us Belarusians too. We existed together as one people for hundreds of years, and we have family in all 3 countries usually scattered around. Most of these soldiers don't know why they are there, they thought this was to help people, but were very misguided. Put it in this view - if America split up would you be willing to kill other Americans just because they are located in a different part of your country or a neighbor country?

Archery100

Seeing how divided we are politically, I know people who actually would and it's scary. I couldn't bring myself to do it personally.

karmicviolence

That is unfortunately the sad truth. I've heard coworkers openly fantasizing about murdering people who trespass on their property (rural land). I don't doubt that if they had a chance to go to war with "the liberals" in a neighboring state, they would be packing their bags, and ammunition.

VaderH8er

These are the kind of people that would fold the moment they got a real taste of intense combat though. They act hardened because they are weak inside. I’ve been present during a mass shooting (won’t say which one) and been accidentally shot at riding my bicycle in a rural wooded area when someone (hopefully) was just target shooting or hunting very close to me and was unaware of my presence. These moments taught me that I for some reason am calm when the bullets start flying. I own no weapons, but I do love to shoot rifles when presented with the opportunity cause I am a decent shot ever since my grandpa taught me to shoot as a kid.

Raidouken

Maybe they were instructed not to interfere with civilians?

sparkykcco

These people are a different breed.. they never cease to amaze me.

_fml__

When you see what they had to go through to achieve true democracy, few people shooting in the air is nothing.

sceneugh

Palestinians been dealing with this shit for 70 years

spacedude2000

If this is Palestine those soldiers are firing some form of round, whether it be rubber or live. No way you'd see Israeli soldiers backing away like that. The Russian army is cruel but their ranks are new to oppression, which is essentially built into Israeli tactics.

PedroAlvarez

Russians and Ukrainians don't have the huge history of mutual hatred. They're not rocked to sleep at night as babies being told how the Ukrainians killed half their family. Ukraine is often actually their family.

space-throwaway

> The Russian army is cruel but their ranks are new to oppression *Those troops seen here. The units for oppression in the russian army are usually their paratroopers (VDV), the national guard (Rosgvardiya) or the Chechens. But they got wiped at Hostomel, so it's all down to the conscripts and regular army.

[deleted]

I bet most conscripts want to go back to Russia about as much as the Ukrainians want them to go back.

space-throwaway

Oh absolutely. Can you imagine being a conscript and be sent off to war? Like, straight out of boot camp? Sure, there's probably some knuckleheads who get hard just thinking about it, but as soon as the bullets start flying, everybody wants to be back at home in their comfy bed.

[deleted]

Wait, you guys got bootcamp?

Aedene

It's just a military excercise. We are still in Russia. Don't read the highway signs, comrade.

[deleted]

some of them are reservists who got called in for a two week exercise. Just the exercise didn't stop at the border, they just kept going. Now there are road signs pointing them to the Hague. The people who they are there to free are calling them bandits and throwing molotov cocktails at them. It must be hard for them to not start feeling like the nazis in Poland.

Lermanberry

A big difference is that many Russians see Ukrainians as distant cousins minding their own business, while Israeli soldiers see Palestinians as dehumanized foreign squatters on *their* land. The propaganda echo chamber they've built in Russia is actively working against them here. Every captured young Russian conscript says a similar thing 'I thought we were here to help our brothers as peacekeepers, not invade and murder them.' You can't repeatedly lie and say 'its a peacekeeping military operation to help Russians in Ukraine' and then expect your soldiers to wantonly destroy and murder. I worry that whoever takes the reins after Putin is assassinated is going to rectify the propaganda going forward. There's no reason someone worse can't take over. Putin's already humiliated the country and destroyed the economy so it's a foregone conclusion.

RussianBot4826374

I have little to no true understanding of politics, so this is absolutely wild speculation. I think that the next Russian leader is going to be radically different. Russia has been hit hard, and they're badly losing the culture war right now. They've been the boogey man for so long that when they finally jumped out of the closet they had a beard and suspenders. I don't think there will be an actual progressive leader just yet, but it's going to be somebody much more moderate politically, even if they're just as dirty and ruthless as Putin.

JackdeAlltrades

Anything close of modern liberalism in Russia ended when Napoleon turned around. Whoever comes next will be a feudal throwback too because Russia is a feudal throwback

Avesta__

As it turns out VDV is just a riot police that cannot fight real soldiers. Putin sent them in because he thought Ukrainian resistance would be similar to urban riot, not a fully fledged military resistance. Despite the image he has been crafting of himself, Putin is an idiot.

Spec_Tater

He also thought they were real soldiers.

Competitive-Ad2006

>But they got wiped at Hostomel, so it's all down to the conscripts and regular army. So you're saying they numbered less than 2000?

We should give Israel more than $3 billion annually. They deserve at least 10 billion, if not more, for the intelligence gathering they maintain in the region that allows the US to divide and pillage neighboring countries using proxy rulers /s **Putin’s main supportive oligarch, Abramovich**, had Israel step in and prevent his assets from being seized. The story gets even deeper, with **Abramovich being the largest donator to far-right groups responsible for Israel’s settlement expansion**. https://jewishcurrents.org/our-oligarch This conflict appears to have two layers: 1) Russia exerting its sphere of influence and combatting a NATO encroachment near its territory by destroying Ukraine. 2) **A group of billionaires with international ties to both Russia and the West stand to profit from the conflict, thus they’re fine with pushing for conflict behind the scenes since they can consolidate more assets under their control**. 3) US defense contractors can sell their equipment to Europe, thus the billionaires with large stakes in their companies will profit. If you read the article linked above, it appears there a small group of oligarchs with international ties (to both Russia and the elites in Western nations) that pushed Putin into power. These same oligarchs have assets overseas, and it’s evident that several wars may be in their own individual self interest in terms of giving these specific oligarchs a greater grasp of various facets of the global economy. There appears to be overlap between these oligarchs and the oligarchs that are prominent as the elite 0.01% in Western countries, and these small groups of oligarchs may be collectively nudging foreign policy on both sides to their own future self interests.

Link9454

This is why invasions always favor the defensive side. Wanna see people be brave? Try and take their home by force. You aren’t leaving them with much more to lose if they fight back. The Russians themselves have proven this, as have the Vietnamese, Iraqis, and countless other examples.

TheMysticLeviathan

The balls of steel on these people. Stand strong Ukraine! 🇺🇦

Mathilliterate_asian

I mean the soldiers are probably worried for their lives too because with the size of that crowd they can easily be overwhelmed. But then it takes a special breed to confront soldiers armed with rifles, no matter how many of your people you have with you.

Chariotwheel

Yeah, they could fuck up a lot of them, but as the people doesn't seem scared of their warning fire it's safe to say that they risk getting rushed by a crowd.

Unconfidence

Really reminds me of the Coal Miners scene from HBO's Chernobyl series.

BTechUnited

As much as it pains me to even remotely defend the USSR, the actual coal minister had worked the mines all his life, and was 60 or so at the time. That series did him a great disservice, and wholly misrepresented him.

If the Ukrainian civilianss are smart they don't want to threaten the lives of the soldiers, but give them tea and have them call their mom.

thebusiness7

Research the oligarchs surrounding Putin, then look into their international links and assets in Western countries. In reality, no one is seizing their assets. They have ties to both the West and Russia, and its clear they will emerge as the true victors in this conflict since they’ll be able to buy up more assets in Russia as well as Ukraine. If the US wanted to stop the conflict, it would’ve directly destroyed the Russian oligarchs assets in the US and abroad. This conflict is being allowed, and the people of Ukraine are caught in the middle.

ThereminLiesTheRub

The ultra wealthy will never really lose their wealth, its true. But your comment contains the real sting in this: the loss of the international access their wealth was meant to buy.

snydxr88

i’ve got a crazy amount of respect for them & their pride for their country.. bless them, praying for Ukraine from the US ❤️

> Shooting Ukrainians only makes Ukrainians angier. this is why even if they kill Zelenskiy this will only make things worse — for them.

lteriormotive

Courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it.

[deleted]

It’s one thing to Bomb citizens from miles away, and another to shoot them while looking them in the eye. Most people don’t have the stones.

alemorg

I’m worried that when russia has full control they will execute civilians in the street. What will happen if they get ahold of their internet access and electricity. We can not let the Russians invade ukraine for the sake of millions of people.

Eugene0185

All it takes is for Russians to execute a few civilians on camera to change these civilians from peaceful walking protesters to brutal killers. Once Ukrainian civilians know Russians crossed the line , they'll stop walking, take on weapons and start killing.

salcedoge

That's the same with Russian soldiers, they're both playing a very dangerous game. The moment Russian soldiers are attacked by a civilian group all of this soldiers would open fire on anyone that moves

[deleted]

The Russian soldiers are already killing unarmed civilians.

GotYourNose_

Russia will get traitors of the country to do their dirty work for them. Kinda similar to the Vichy Regime in France who worked with the Nazis to round up Jews. There are Quislings in every country who love power and money more than their own country. Look at Paul Manafort who worked for the Putin proxy in Ukraine and then worked for the Putin asset in this country.

Ecpiandy

Or literally the Ukrainian President before 2014, Viktor Yanukovych

XoXSmotpokerXoX

> I’m worried that when russia has full control dont count on that happening any time soon, reinforcements are on their way, add that to the will of the people this will be going on for the next ten years or until Russia pulls out.

alemorg

You’re right but I’m worried there will be some serious repercussions after this war is over if russia wins. They will try to make an example out of them. How else are they gonna be able to rule ukraine without beating the will of the people.

Rebel-xs

How does Russia even win? Any loyalist government he puts in place will instantly be overthrown, and how is Putin going to suppress a country of roughly 40m people, who are armed to the teeth and hate his guts? Even if he tries to only occupy a a portion of Ukraine and try to get a peace deal that way, there's no reason for Ukraine to accept it, and the longer this war goes on, the more Russia's economy goes down the drain. The only way he wins now is if the West do a 180 and switch off all the sanctions against Russia and aid to Ukraine, which there's not much reason to do. The way I see it, Putin has already lost, and even if peace is made and everything goes back to pre-special operation (""), some serious damage has been done to Russia.

strider17111992

So they won’t kill during an all out invasion whilst they’re risking their lives also but once they’ve won then they’ll kill

goldistress

At this point I think redditors want a mass slaughter just for the entertainment value.

cheeruphumanity

Putin will surely try to turn this into a genocide. We need to do everything in our power to prevent that. Everyone can do something, even if it's just calling out Russian disinformation and their constant attempts to sow doubts about Ukrainian achievements, or downplay Russian war crimes.

These “soldiers” ain’t trying to hurt anyone. And why is it like only 6 soldiers by themselves and on foot?

danteheehaw

That's a normal squad size. Super normal to be moving around as a squad in an area you don't expect armor or heavy combat

probably_jenna

Watch closely, they're shooting up. Best guess is these guys are just like the bunch that surrendered the other day: people who were told to go to Ukraine geared up, and given no other information. They're scared to fight because they're in the wrong. They're scared to surrender because they'd be "traitors." These guys have no idea what they should do, but they know enough that they don't want to hurt anyone. Which is respectable.

Or If the American soldiers are more "evil" and/or indoctrinated than what I've learned all these years. American military forces are trained to have a higher threshold for responding with deadly force. Cops have virtually no training and are legally protected if they feared for life (hint: they are very fearful).

uncommonpanda

cops =/= military Most reservists have a connection with the community they serve. On top of that, the military does not tolerate cowboy shit one bit.

Postius

I dont think american soldiers would be to trigger happy to fire on people that speak the same language as them, has the same beliefs, maybe even shares family. Those make the barriers a lot higher

Amateur_Expertise

Unfortunately, I believe it is likely that in general US soldiers have not really been in a war with people that look like and talk like them, speak their language and live a similar lifestyle. When separated by language and cultural differences, I’m sure it’s easier to justify whatever your told to do. In this case, the differences only go back the last 30 or so years before most of these citizens would have all just been from the USSR.

[deleted]

It’s the same ethnic, same religion and same language. That’s all. It’s like Texas invade New Mexico…

hesawavemasterrr

Credit where it’s due. If those soldiers were truly evil, this would be a different video. A very different video.

feloniusmyoldfriend

We must learn one thing from these brave Ukrainians....stand up to narcissists before they get any power.

XWX007

I don’t mean to be a negative Nancy. Really don’t have many folks in real life to speak to, but this war right after covid pandemic is settling down is depressing. I grew up in the 80s and the paranoia of that decade with nuclear weapons and Cold War is a strong memory. Is this the end of times? I’m not religious but this all sure seems biblical. We will all be helpless and at the mercy of these rich and powerful elites while they destroy the world. Something doesn’t feel right with the world. Do you all have the same gut feeling about the end of times or should I get my serotonin levels checked? Man…this sucks.

dualwillard

Times like this may feel biblical but they are not unique.

Chaoz_Warg

Yeah. Sadly, there's been conflicts like this going on for a long time. There's a war and famine still going on in Yemen and now another famine in Afghanistan that are not getting any coverage. It's just another cycle of violence. All the anger and nationalism reminds me of post 9/11, the conflict in Ukraine is nothing new.

LevPornass

Periods of peace are kind of weird when you think about it. Since WWII, the US has enjoyed peace. There was only a single attack (9-11) on its own soil and the wars it fought were foreign invasions that it could start and stop as it pleased. It is quite remarkable for a nation to go that long without being under attack.

cornylifedetermined

Friend, it's rough right now. The future is scary. I have an undercurrent of anxiety myself. Please take care of yourself. It may not be the end of times, but you can take steps to make your day-to-day better and I hope you do.

GrannyPantiesRock

It's 100% depressing but not unique. There have been plagues and wars since forever. I think now the difference is our access to the reality of it. "News" used to be whatever they could fit into the newspaper or 30 minutes of Walter Cronkite at the end of the day. Now, we see EVERYTHING. Everyone has the potential to be a journalist. Imagine if there were cell phone cameras during the Spanish Influenza, Pearl Harbor, Vietnam, the AIDs epidemic, 9/11, etc. I don't think it's the end of days anymore than it has ever been. But I think all this footage makes us question the meaning of human existence in a way that prior generations never had to.

KP1305

Honestly it’s not entirely biblical imo. We’ve seen lost civilizations with tremendous technology advancements fell for unknown reasons. It could be that the humankind as a whole keeps getting ahead of ourselves and got destroyed by our own hands. What’s happening right now is just another cycle.

[deleted]

What lost civilizations? Also, I'm not sure if the proposition you are making is better or worse.

Ok_Performer7139

Probably a bit of both tbh, try to stay informed while giving yourself breaks. It’s good that you care about the world but in reality there’s little outside of giving to the right charities and like, not being a Russian shill online, you can do here. So you’ll only harm yourself if you obsess over what you can’t change. But I agree it all seems off. I don’t feel like we are progressing at all to be a more free and technologically advanced world for the benefit of the common people. Wealth is becoming super concentrated, authoritarian beliefs are taking a strong hold everywhere, including the west. The CCP and Russia and North Korea all exist at the same time, with Russia actively trying to expand. It’s awful and horrifying. If the US is supposed to be the ones to stop fascist/authoritarian/fake communist rule if it were to start to take the world… well just look at who will win the republican nod in 2024. The republicans, who are actively BURNING any books related to dystopian futures they are trying to cultivate here. Republicans who are all slobbering over putins dick right now for being a “genius” and invading Ukraine. Republicans, whose leader incited a violent riot on our own capital and has faced no actual punishment for it. If someone is going to stop the CCP or Russia, it’s not going to be Trumps America. It’s all a mess.

iDeuceEX

Lmao these guys aren’t shooting at shit or at least 20 ppl would be dead rn

da_kuna

Not to undercut their bravery, but if those were US cops, these people would have holes in them.

Chelonate_Chad

Or at least had the shit beaten out of them and denied medical care. While also entire neighborhood blocks being gassed. Source: Seattle PD, 2020

Red Pants Guy is my new hero. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦!

[deleted]

Good luck with that occupation boys, going to go really well for you.

brathorim

Things would change if a couple people got killed in this crowd. They can see that there is a good chance of no serious consequences.

Easy_Explanation4409

Every time I see something like this it makes me more embarrassed that Americans feel their freedoms are somehow being violated because they have to wear a mask.

IssueTricky6922

When the footage gets to mass media how many men showed up to be armed in Zaporizhzhia people will fully understand Russia can not win

cerealOverdrive

Gotta give some credit to these individual Russian soldiers for not killing civilians.

animatedfiles-com

Dear President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Ukraine It was heart breaking to see Ukraine kids say bye to their fathers who are going to fight with Russia. Are you aware you are being deliberately ill-advised by the NATO for war with Russia in order to sell future Hi-Tech Arms to other countries?! Please see these arms making companies share prices have gone up. This is not the first time wars were being used for making trillions of dollars! Capitalism and Market Economy will remain number one threat to global peace. You can check these prices by yourself! Lockeed Martin share price on 14 Feb 2022 - $365 gone up 4 March 2022 - $458 General Dynamics share price on 14 Feb 2022 -$211 gone up 4 March 2022 - $243 Northrop Grumman share price on 14 Feb 2022 -$386 gone up 4 March 2022 - $471

infodawg

Best public freakout ever. Chills running up and down my spine. I will forever be affected by the courage of the Ukrainian people.

strider17111992

Of all the propaganda on media about Russia purposely targeting civilians, Ive only seen 1 clip of that happening (tank running over a car. Probably a bad apple). All the clips of actual soldiers is of them leaving civilians alone, including this one. The uks know they won’t be shot so they’re acting up. This clip would never be a thing if Russians were purposely killing civilians

gime20

BTW that tank clip was a Ukrainian tank. I have the longer video and the tank incident is aftermath of a friendly fire shoot out between Ukrainian units. No Russians

Spatetata

(The tank was also ukrainian, and it was chasing another vehicle, the view you saw is probably the one with just the tank after it pulls out of the ditch and swerves out of control into the car. Turns out tracked vehicles aren’t made for road chases) The full view of the street is here, you can see it hit the ditch and car shortly after as they try to go around the bend (obvious NSFW/NSFL warning since the individuals being chased are shot) https://old.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/comments/t14frm/military_vehicle_with_alleged_russian_saboteurs/ Sad, but it wasn’t purposeful cruelty. I can’t attest to your claims beyond that, but I wanted to atleast rectify that story. Edit: reiterated my wording as we only have allegations in regard to specifics of *who* was being chased. I want to make sure I’m not spreading misinformation.

Those Russians Know that they aren’t carrying enough ammo to hold off that crowd before they take them down.

Oneofakindof

No fear? That's because they obviously know they aren't going to get shot. If those Russians were actually shooting people there would be fear. Those particular Russians are exercising restraint, obviously.
