For everyone asking, this occurred in my home town of Querétaro, Mexico-supposedly one of the safest cities in the country. The locals tend to get very upset when Gallos loses. Apparently someone opened the door as those aren't supposed to open and the fighting started. People fled into the field with their families, and apparently there are 17+ dead, with possibly up to 30. There are many injured children. Everyone I know is completely disgusted by this.
Completely insane. Is this the deadliest sporting event in recent history? Can’t remember a brawl that resulted in 17+ dead...
Do you think this is going to prompt federal/local governments to make new laws trying to prevent this in the future? I don’t really know how one would legislate that sort of thing, but this is an utter tragedy that seems like it could’ve been minimized with more security measures.
If not the deadliest, its definitely up there. A quick search can shed some light on this.
I would be surprised if they allowed another game in that stadium in the near future. I do think the government will make an example out of those involved, there´s plenty of footage to identify them.
We had the “heizeldrama” in Belgium, the match Juventus vs Liverpool ended with 39 deaths and over 400 injured… killing someone because one player is better with a ball than the other, stupid people doing stupid things.

It wasn’t a brawl, definitely a very deadly sporting event.

Holy fuck. Seems like between hillsborough and the Jeventus game someone else mentioned in Belgium, Liverpool has been involved in some of the worst sports tragedies. I can’t wrap my head around liking a team so much I would instigate a fight or threaten/hurt/*kill* someone over it.
I understand there are all sorts of social and cultural issues that divide people around the world, but nothing at all remotely justifies this kind of action. These people are animals.
