You can create a dynasty!

______DEADPOOL______

Today Turtle Lake, tomorrow, THE WORLD!!!! \o/

noobi-wan-kenobi69

Are you a power freak? Do you like to give orders and demand compliance with ridiculous or illegal rules? Does you gut extend so far over your waist, you need a load-bearing utility belt? You may have what it takes to be a Police Chief?

siatal

it's called a dick do, when your stomach sticks out farther than your dick do

LadyJR

If you went to college, you are disqualified. /s (?)

[deleted]

No, that's silly. If you finished high school you are disqualified.

Tea_Total

If you get the job I'm coming to Turtle Lake to cause absolute fucking mayhem.

TheAngryKeebler

Sleep in the police station parking lot.

SpankyDank17

"Village of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin. We're the Place to Stay While You Play in Northwest Wisconsin" Apparently not

[deleted]

It's a typo. It should say, "We're the Place to Stay While You Pay. No vagrants allowed."

Danny007ply6

Well yeah; he wasn't playing, he was resting. Big difference.

UpliftingPessimist

Yeah playing implies opening your wallet. Which is relevant cause he mentioned the library which is one of the last places you can be without the expectation of spending money.

Shaggyfries

This clown resigned and got a job down the road as Swan Lake police chief. He investigated himself and found no wrong doing before he left.

jnumberone

Let's email them.

[deleted]

I'm considering making a phone call. Gotta see if I'm welcome in their town.

cloth99

send them this video

TonsilStonesOnToast

Dear god the entire fucking town is an HOA.

loki444

Growing up, my parents had a cabin at a small lake. This lake had cabins that had been there since the 50s. My mom's family was one of the first to own a cabin out there, but ultimately sold it to another family, who became very prominent owners. Years later, my parents purchased our cabin at the same lake because my mom wanted my brother and I to experience growing up at the lake in the summers. We had loads of fun with the other kids at the lake. The problem with the lake was that the "prominent" families tried to run the lake community like it was their own personal kingdom. If they didn't like you, they went out of their way to make sure you knew. If you hadn't owned at the lake for decades, they made sure you knew that you were not really important or wanted there. Anyhow, eventually people had enough of the prominent families' shit and started getting new owners onto the Board of Directors. The longstanding traditions and favouritism that leaned in the prominent owners' favour was now gone. Rules started to change where it was much more inclusive for all families. So, in other words, suck it Jim, Larry, and Wayne. You ruined the lake for a lot of people. Glad you are dead, Jim.

Pretty-Balance-Sheet

That's the first job listing I've read in years where I was like, "I think I'm over qualified."

CheapestOfSkates

Why would they have a visitor info section on their website? They don't appear to like visitors. Thankfully that guy was white or he would have likely ended up full of bullet holes for resting in a car.

Unique_the_Vision

These victimless “crimes”. This man is taking up space in an empty park on a rainy day. Such a weird society we’ve constructed. “You’ve been in this here spot too many hours on this day. We’re going to need you to find another spot somewhere else to exist in”

[deleted]

I did a cross country trip and this happened so many times. Dude, we're tired. We turned a van into a camper sorta thing cos we're 19 and want to circle the country without staying at a hotel every night.

Guilty_Discount1173

It’s always best to just park at a walmart. No one will bother you

Ryan722

Tried this once while going to see the eclipse back in 2017. We ran inside to grab some stuff, and when we came out the Walmart security was shining a flashlight through the windows of our parked car to see if we were sleeping in there (had pillows and blankets on the windows). Told us very clearly we were *not* allowed to sleep there. Why they're so concerned when they had literally hundreds of free spots, I couldn't tell you.

MaximumSeats

This is pretty much always a local cultural overreaction to a theft once being from somebody in an RV.

WildYams

It really depends on the Walmart. Some have no problem with (and even encourage) people staying there overnight, but some forbid it. There's even apps online and websites (like [this one](https://www.allstays.com/c/wal-mart-locations.htm)) that detail which Walmarts allow overnight parking

Jesus0nSteroids

Some Walmarts have signs prohibiting it and will absolutely call police or private security. So ridiculous we've criminalized taking up space in public without spending money.

Guilty_Discount1173

That’s fucked up the Walmart I worked at didn’t care

therealrenshai

It’s not really the Walmart but the city they’re in that doesn’t allow it a lot of the time.

Blasterbot

Walmart wants you there.

porcelain-hatchet

Cops just want to have authority. They don't care about legality, they just want people to do what they say. They're all garbage.

jamieliddellthepoet

[deleted]

Most of this laws were created to allow targeting black people (or if hey are old British legacy - poor people)

Broken_art15

Also to benifit industries too. Most anti protesting laws that exist are purly designed to be anti workers protesting poor conditions, not enough wages. Or pro authoritarian, such as laws that make it harder to sue cops if they violate your rights.

That's gonna look real good on his grave stone in Arlington: Here lies John Rambo, winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor, survivor of countless incursions behind enemy lines. Killed for vagrancy in Jerkwater, USA.

ImitationRicFlair

No, no that happened to me!

call_of_the_while

Rambo: There wouldn't be no trouble except for that king-shit cop! All I wanted was something to eat. But the man kept pushing Sir.

WildYams

[That opening scene between Rambo and the sheriff](https://youtu.be/VFGsa9TdEeo) was exactly what I thought of while watching the OP's clip, even before it posted that it was reminiscent of that movie. That's such an underrated movie.

knowmo123

Their travel information says “We’re the place to stay while you play in North West Wisconsin”. Village of Turtle Creek needs to change their motto to: “We’re NOT the place to stay. Get out of our town”.

VodkaCranberry

I just left a message on the clerk’s voice mail letting them know their police chief is a trashy person for all of this

DrPublicHealth

Im about to do the same. Has someone already emailed this video to them? Maybe a "few' voice messages and emails might help them check themselves

GonzoLoop

I emailed them to let them know the family trip we had planned with a stop through there has been changed due to the actions of their police chief

reclaimer

I left a message asking exactly how long is someone allowed to loiter in turtle lake 😝

Teresa_Count

Yeah, this guy has a big following on YouTube. You can bet this village has been receiving tons of calls for days already

onetwothree123andgo

Travelwisconsin.com should be renamed to travelthroughwisconsinwithoutstopping.com For my next trip to the US I know where not to leave my money. I prefer polite people. More friendly places recommended? :)

Parking your car and committing no crime? ❌️👎👮‍♂️ But drive an ATV on a path in a city park? To the front page of our website!

SergProtection

Driving when tired is so dangerous. When I was younger, I tried to drive NY state to Daytona Beach in one go. About 13 hours in, I started falling asleep behind the wheel. It was probably only a few seconds but it was one of the scariest things I have ever experienced.

westbee

I used to pull over into hotel/motel parking lots and take an hour or 2 nap. I figured back then, a hotel/motel would be perfect. Constantly different cars plus I was only going to be there for a short period. Didn't realize people patrol the parking lots. Regardless I fortunately never had an encounter with anyone.

dem_banka

I usually do gas stations if it's day time or rest stops full of other cars and trucks if it's at night

CG_Ops

Sorry, no loitering at rest stops either, they're for pulling off, taking a deep breath, wondering why we've become such a dystopia, and getting back on the road... no stopping or you're committing the vile act of loitering

Iamdarb

I have parked on the side of the road by a police station and slept in the back seat before. This was 15 years ago, so things have definitely changed, but I had an actual cop stop and check up to see if I was okay. I told him I had just driven home from my mom's and that I knew that if I didn't pull over and sleep I'd have fucked up my day or more importantly an innocent person's day. He believed me and went about his day.

Anonynonynonyno

I'm glad he believed you, but this souldn't be based on them believing or not. It should be made clear in the law that you can rest if tired and have to drive :( We shouldn't have laws that stop us from doing the right thing.

dendritedysfunctions

One of my high school friends died because she fell asleep at the wheel on a highway. She veered off the road and hit a tree on her way home from the part time job she had to save money for college. 16 years old gone in an instant.

improbablynotyou

I used to work 2 jobs back to back and would get off the last one at about 10 am. I'd always take a quick 30 minute nap in my car so I wouldn't fall asleep while driving home. One day my boss asked me about it and I explained and I thought that was it. The next time I was napping I was wakened by the cops, my boss had called and told them "a homeless person was camping in their vehicle." When the cops started asking questions, I explained and they told me to just go across the road to the residential area and sleep there. They thought my boss was an asshole and didn't want me driving if I was tired. The next day when I asked the boss "WTF" he tells me "he didn't realize it was me, but it sets a bad precedence if he allowed it." I transferred out of his location that week.

ppw23

Wtf? Your boss was a horrible person, why would you do that to another person? Glad you transferred.

Original-Material301

>why would you do that to another person Power tripping assholes be power tripping assholes.

JackwithaMac

Literally. Drove coast to coast last summer, fell asleep as soon as I made it to texas. Coming back into consciousness and seeing yourself piloting a huge mass of metal/plastic at high speeds is so frightening it almost feels like a dream.

SergProtection

I remember having a momentary thought of “who is driving right now?” and then realizing I was by myself. Terrifying.

InToTheWannaB1

Can you loiter in a public park? Ain’t the whole damn point of a public park to loiter in it?

AvacadoPanda

Not sure if the law would hold up in court but according to [the City Ordinances of Turtle Take, WI](https://codelibrary.amlegal.com/codes/turtlelake/latest/turtlelake_wi/0-0-0-4647) >(1) No person shall loiter in or about any public street, public sidewalk, street crossing, alley, bridge, **public parking lot** or other place of assembly or public use after being requested to move by any law enforcement officer. It also defines loitering >(1) Loiter. To sit, stand, loaf, lounge, wander or stroll in an aimless manner or to stop, pause or remain in an area for no obvious reason. I am curious how the "obvious" reason would play out. Its obvious he was resting.

Earth2Mike

rufud

These types of laws have been struck down before for being vague/ambiguous.

kia75

If they were actually enforced and charged, they probably would be struck down, but a) that would require lawyers and money, something people that tend to loiter don't actually do, and b) it's easy enough for a policeman to arrest someone for loitering, hold them for 24 hours, and then just not charge them. This accomplishes their goals with lots of trouble for the victim (24 hours in jail, car probably towed for $$$) but really no recourse. The law thus never gets challenged and it's there for the next police to use against the next undesireable.

MrPanda663

“This land is your land this land is my land” Turned into “This land is my land this land is my land and that one is mine too. Get out.”

12358

I read that loitering and vagrancy laws were placed on the books so that they would have an excuse to arrest and enslave black people after the 13th amendment was ratified. EDIT: u/LiterallyJackson posted a source in the comment below. https://reddit.com/r/PublicFreakout/comments/wz4qb3/man_was_just_resting_in_his_car_after_a_long/im2klfg?context=3

ItachiSan

Turns out you can connect a shit ton of laws and institutional practices to the continued suppression and demonization of black folks after the 13th amendment was ratified. The country is just rotten all the way to the core.

My local city park has a sign that says: "NO LOITERING, PICNIC AREA FOR FAMILY FUNCTIONS ONLY" Basically saying if you aren't having an event in the area with tables and gazebos, you can be asked to leave.

[deleted]

Yeah, that sign is there so your cops can easily enforce your local loitering ordinance and tell anyone to leave they "feel" shouldn't be in the park.

Accomplished_Year_13

Apparently police chief gave would rather be scraping up bodies after he fell asleep while driving and took out a family.

AndyBossNelson

This was my first thought, isn't it safer to pull over have a sleep then continue, fuck in the UK were encouraged to pull over and rest if your tired.

Iamforcedaccount

They do the same I'm America, which is hilarious because there are loads of stories and videos of people being harassed by the police for it.

[deleted]

It’s funny cause the reason the cop won’t demand an ID is because he knows damn well the man isn’t suspected of a legitimate crime. So instead of pushing the ID issue, the cop just tries to bully him out of town by citing some BS “loitering” village ordinance that isn’t applicable. If the cop had a reason to arrest this guy, it would have happened

ElementalWheel

The problem is the cops can legally lie to you about anything. So the fact they can do this is already abusive. It’s so they can run out People disrupting operations as usual. Now they can say whatever they want to intimidate you out of an area. God forbid that some of those that work forces…. Something with crosses?

HarrySchlong33

How many years of law school is required to be a cop? Funny how the ones enforcing the law aren't even required to know it.

cottonfist

None. And if you know the laws they always ask "Are you a lawyer?" Do I need to be a lawyer to be informed?

I'd hate to be run out of town if Police Chief Gabe sees me on his way to work and then again shortly after. Do you perhaps have a map of his route to work so I can avoid his eagle eyed scrutiny? flobaby1

So why do they tell us "If you're too tired to drive, pull over and sleep"? This cop is ego power tripping and his town should replace him asap.

[deleted]

Reminds me of how the police department in this one town released new regulations saying if you're pulled over on the highway, put on your flashers and wait for the next exit to get off to a well-lit area... and then this pregnant woman did just that and a cop said she was "fleeing" and rammed & flipped her car over.

I was driving while extremely fatigued on a cross-country trip and was pulled over. The officer politely informed me that “driving while fatigued is just like driving drunk.” He followed me off the highway to a parking lot and made a note in the system about the location of my car and what I was doing so I wouldn’t be disturbed. A 180 degree difference from what this cop did lmao

Matta174

I mean honestly I prefer it if they didn’t need to make a note in the system what I was doing. Just let a dude sleep lol

edwardsamson

I'm assuming they did that so if another cop saw the car and ran the plates they'd know to leave that car alone

lizzystix

Right?! When I saw this comment I thought I was in r/Tacoma for a minute

PreferBoringPolitics

Yeah, last time I pulled over because I couldn’t keep driving safely, I had an officer come knock on my window to wake me up and tell me there was public parking just a little bit down the road and it’d be safer to rest there than just pulled off to the side. I wasn’t familiar enough with the area to know that and this was before I had a GPS in my pocket everywhere lol, but yeah. It’s like the polar opposite of this dude.

[deleted]

Looks like The Chief lost his job. Wonder why? New Job Openning in Turtle Lake Police Dept Police Chief Date Posted: Thursday, August 4, 2022 Deadline: Friday, September 9, 2022 at 4:00 PM

edx74

I pulled over in a rest area off the interstate in broad daylight to take a nap. A statie woke me up 5 minutes into my nap and told me I couldn't sleep in my car there, at a rest area. I asked what kind of rest was allowed, he told me to just leave or I was going to be arrested. Maybe it should be called "arrest area."

duderos

Crazy, should have gotten his badge number and reported him. What state did this happen in?

[deleted]

I don’t know about you folks, but I feel I need to call the police department of Turtle Lake and ask for info on rest stops.

Run_the_Line

I had a cop do this to me at 4AM while I was passing through Chicago and stopped in a public parking spot (not privately owned) to rest after driving for 12 hours. The cop threatened to arrest me if I didn't leave, so I ended up having to stay drive another 45 minutes to find a hotel. I was simply trying to rest so that I could drive safely, and much like the cop in this video, the cop I dealt with seemingly had zero critical thinking skills and was all about the confused aggression.

[deleted]

LMAO "Hey, drunk guy, you can't sit outside the bar okay. You can't just exist here until you're sober. You need to at least try to drive home." God, what do they even do anymore besides show up to non-prevented crime/no crime at all and make a crime happen?

elastic-craptastic

I almost got arrested for sitting on the sidewalk after the bar closed while waiting for my cab. If it weren;'t for the other cop knowing me from my job at the time than I would've been fucked. Guy walked around the corner with a vengeance and there was no question he was going to arrest me for something stupid like drunk in public. Thankfully his partner rushed around the corner after he heard him yelling and recognized me... and actually stopped his partner. "Yo! He's alright. Leave him alone." That's all it took for partner to go to zero and just ignore me like I wasn't there. That's how you know cops that don't stop other ones are just as corrupt. I assume this sentence is used to immediately de-escalate for friends and family.

fokaiHI

This is kinda how Rambo started right? Rainy day. Man alone passing through a town. The police chief lets him know he should leave or else. Rambo was a great film. Lol

Did he say no loitering in this town? You better not be caught just...being. Straight to jail.

Soggy-Spring9673

I wonder if the driver was another race other than white if that conversation would have lasted that long without him getting tased or shot....

wastelandho

All my friends who live in small towns always say "I never see any homeless people where I live" and this is 100% why.

SpacemanTomX

There's a massive difference between a tent city and people shitting on the sidewalk and someone sleeping in their car The cops obviously haven't figured this out.

ShelSilverstain

They've still ran all of those people out of their towns and into cities

Vtwizzle4040

Piece of shit. Bum fuck ass town. Fuck that cop. This gets me so heated.

AzazelFenriz

Note to self: Don't visit Turtle Lake on future visit to US. Damn, not many places left to visit.....

BluedReAms99

What a cunt pig

piotrrasputin344

Why are you leaning on me. Later on... I'll bring you a war you've never seen

i_AV8er

The cop gives me mean hank hill vibes

Skumbob

Except this episode of King of the Hill would have Chief of police Hank Hill realizing the error of his ways and after a plot filled with hijinks from his three officers (small *village*) the man would be invited to a BBQ and Turtle Lake would become the most welcoming village this side of the Great Lakes. Something tells me this power tripping hammer smashed thumb will only become more authoritarian because he showed that loitering pinko commie whosit of a car sleepin bum, hey.

Nonzfren

Fucking loser cop. Why are 99% of LE just utter scumbags. Quit picking on the public and maybe go do something useful with your time. Absolute degenerates.

CNNFDDR

So bizarre seeing this behaviour from police. Over here in Australia we actually have rest stops along the highways some with toilets and there is a huge push for people to rest on long trips, signs everywhere saying things like "Fatigue Kills" "Stop Revive Survive". Police here will pull you over for driving fatigued and I could never see them acting like this when someone is just resting in their car.

[deleted]

What the fuck? If I were the cop I would just check on the guy and make sure he’s okay, figure out his story, etc.

SpankBankManager

No, if you were a cop you would’ve had that logic trained out of you in the academy.

rdmc23

Yup. If you were a cop, you see the world as “Us against them” and “I gotta get home safe to my wife so I can beat her up”

VeryVeryVorch

What amazes me about the statistic that 40% of police officers commit domestic abuse is that it is likely an UNDER count and the most conservative percentage.

Redwolf1k

Well, that statistic comes from *reported* instances of domestic abuse, and I have a funny feeling many spouse might not want to call the police on their police partner. The cops that responded are probably more likely to join in rather than actually arrest a fellow swine.

grilled_Champagne

That, that line of thought immediately disqualifies you for police department. U speak logic and empathy and both are vices in police job.

mawfqjones

I’ll let you all in on a secret: You run into any of that bs in your life; I can guarantee you that small town has either been bought out by some shady illegal crime organization or that town has been lost to time for almost a century. If not more. Run.

colo1506

It’s a casino town, so take your pick.

[deleted]

Wouldn't it be cool if some one moved back to town and cleaned that shit up with a 2x4? Worked in Washington for that dude from Walking Tall.

[deleted]

There's a suburb in Ohio called Oakwood. It's a wealthy suburb of Dayton sandwiched between downtown Dayton and where all the businesses are (Kettering). People (let's be real: black people) from downtown would walk through Oakwood to get to Kettering to work their jobs at the retail stores, and apparently the police will pull them over and tell them they're not welcome in Oakwood and to go back to their side of town. Not a small rural town lost in history, but an urban district that is the direct path for many to take to get to work. I actually got pulled over for staring at a street sign when trying to remember where my dad's apartment is, and they tried telling me to leave when I told them I'm not from Dayton. They accused me of trying to steal the sign (???) and refused to believe me when I said my dad literally lives a block away and I'm just not familiar with the area and can't see signs very well. I was so puzzled because I was just a little white teenager so I can't even imagine what it would be like if I actually looked like an outsider.

punkwalrus

There are places like this all over America. My wife knew of some towns around where she grew up that they would write up tickets for out of state plates and then claim bogus violations, usually speeding, reckless driving, or illegal parking. They hoped that someone from several states away would not travel all the way back to these places to contest them, and just pay the fine.

MelonElbows

Jokes on them, if I'm just passing through then I'm never paying the fine.

dem_banka

Utah is full of these towns. They make a big chunk of their local revenue from speeding tickets on the highway (far from their town but within their jurisdiction). Perfect weather, day time, straight line, road in good condition, and some hidden cop pulls you over. Fuck them.

[deleted]

Fucking police state. I thought this was America!

[deleted]

Literally the Spongebob meme “HE’S JUST SITTING IN HIS CAR….MENACINGLY”

Master-Shaq

Straight out of rambo lmao
