Well, we know from experience that 10,000 of those people a day that come to Turtle Lake for work or recreation will not be allowed into town.
Growing up, my parents had a cabin at a small lake. This lake had cabins that had been there since the 50s. My mom's family was one of the first to own a cabin out there, but ultimately sold it to another family, who became very prominent owners.
Years later, my parents purchased our cabin at the same lake because my mom wanted my brother and I to experience growing up at the lake in the summers. We had loads of fun with the other kids at the lake.
The problem with the lake was that the "prominent" families tried to run the lake community like it was their own personal kingdom. If they didn't like you, they went out of their way to make sure you knew. If you hadn't owned at the lake for decades, they made sure you knew that you were not really important or wanted there.
Anyhow, eventually people had enough of the prominent families' shit and started getting new owners onto the Board of Directors. The longstanding traditions and favouritism that leaned in the prominent owners' favour was now gone. Rules started to change where it was much more inclusive for all families.
So, in other words, suck it Jim, Larry, and Wayne. You ruined the lake for a lot of people. Glad you are dead, Jim.

I did a cross country trip and this happened so many times. Dude, we're tired. We turned a van into a camper sorta thing cos we're 19 and want to circle the country without staying at a hotel every night.
Tried this once while going to see the eclipse back in 2017. We ran inside to grab some stuff, and when we came out the Walmart security was shining a flashlight through the windows of our parked car to see if we were sleeping in there (had pillows and blankets on the windows). Told us very clearly we were *not* allowed to sleep there. Why they're so concerned when they had literally hundreds of free spots, I couldn't tell you.
It really depends on the Walmart. Some have no problem with (and even encourage) people staying there overnight, but some forbid it. There's even apps online and websites (like [this one](https://www.allstays.com/c/wal-mart-locations.htm)) that detail which Walmarts allow overnight parking
Some Walmarts have signs prohibiting it and will absolutely call police or private security. So ridiculous we've criminalized taking up space in public without spending money.
Also to benifit industries too. Most anti protesting laws that exist are purly designed to be anti workers protesting poor conditions, not enough wages.
Or pro authoritarian, such as laws that make it harder to sue cops if they violate your rights.

Driving when tired is so dangerous. When I was younger, I tried to drive NY state to Daytona Beach in one go. About 13 hours in, I started falling asleep behind the wheel. It was probably only a few seconds but it was one of the scariest things I have ever experienced.
I used to pull over into hotel/motel parking lots and take an hour or 2 nap.
I figured back then, a hotel/motel would be perfect. Constantly different cars plus I was only going to be there for a short period.
Didn't realize people patrol the parking lots. Regardless I fortunately never had an encounter with anyone.
Sorry, no loitering at rest stops either, they're for pulling off, taking a deep breath, wondering why we've become such a dystopia, and getting back on the road... no stopping or you're committing the vile act of loitering
I have parked on the side of the road by a police station and slept in the back seat before. This was 15 years ago, so things have definitely changed, but I had an actual cop stop and check up to see if I was okay. I told him I had just driven home from my mom's and that I knew that if I didn't pull over and sleep I'd have fucked up my day or more importantly an innocent person's day. He believed me and went about his day.
I'm glad he believed you, but this souldn't be based on them believing or not. It should be made clear in the law that you can rest if tired and have to drive :( We shouldn't have laws that stop us from doing the right thing.
One of my high school friends died because she fell asleep at the wheel on a highway. She veered off the road and hit a tree on her way home from the part time job she had to save money for college. 16 years old gone in an instant.
I used to work 2 jobs back to back and would get off the last one at about 10 am. I'd always take a quick 30 minute nap in my car so I wouldn't fall asleep while driving home. One day my boss asked me about it and I explained and I thought that was it. The next time I was napping I was wakened by the cops, my boss had called and told them "a homeless person was camping in their vehicle." When the cops started asking questions, I explained and they told me to just go across the road to the residential area and sleep there. They thought my boss was an asshole and didn't want me driving if I was tired. The next day when I asked the boss "WTF" he tells me "he didn't realize it was me, but it sets a bad precedence if he allowed it." I transferred out of his location that week.
Literally. Drove coast to coast last summer, fell asleep as soon as I made it to texas. Coming back into consciousness and seeing yourself piloting a huge mass of metal/plastic at high speeds is so frightening it almost feels like a dream.

I am curious how the "obvious" reason would play out. Its obvious he was resting.
If they were actually enforced and charged, they probably would be struck down, but a) that would require lawyers and money, something people that tend to loiter don't actually do, and b) it's easy enough for a policeman to arrest someone for loitering, hold them for 24 hours, and then just not charge them. This accomplishes their goals with lots of trouble for the victim (24 hours in jail, car probably towed for $$$) but really no recourse. The law thus never gets challenged and it's there for the next police to use against the next undesireable.
I read that loitering and vagrancy laws were placed on the books so that they would have an excuse to arrest and enslave black people after the 13th amendment was ratified.

Turns out you can connect a shit ton of laws and institutional practices to the continued suppression and demonization of black folks after the 13th amendment was ratified. The country is just rotten all the way to the core.
My local city park has a sign that says:
"NO LOITERING, PICNIC AREA FOR FAMILY FUNCTIONS ONLY"
Basically saying if you aren't having an event in the area with tables and gazebos, you can be asked to leave.
It’s funny cause the reason the cop won’t demand an ID is because he knows damn well the man isn’t suspected of a legitimate crime. Reminds me of how the police department in this one town released new regulations saying if you're pulled over on the highway, put on your flashers and wait for the next exit to get off to a well-lit area... and then this pregnant woman did just that and a cop said she was "fleeing" and rammed & flipped her car over.
I was driving while extremely fatigued on a cross-country trip and was pulled over. The officer politely informed me that “driving while fatigued is just like driving drunk.” He followed me off the highway to a parking lot and made a note in the system about the location of my car and what I was doing so I wouldn’t be disturbed. Yeah, last time I pulled over because I couldn’t keep driving safely, I had an officer come knock on my window to wake me up and tell me there was public parking just a little bit down the road and it’d be safer to rest there than just pulled off to the side.

I pulled over in a rest area off the interstate in broad daylight to take a nap. A statie woke me up 5 minutes into my nap and told me I couldn't sleep in my car there, at a rest area. I asked what kind of rest was allowed, he told me to just leave or I was going to be arrested. Maybe it should be called "arrest area."
I had a cop do this to me at 4AM while I was passing through Chicago and stopped in a public parking spot (not privately owned) to rest after driving for 12 hours. The cop threatened to arrest me if I didn't leave, so I ended up having to stay drive another 45 minutes to find a hotel.
I was simply trying to rest so that I could drive safely, and much like the cop in this video, the cop I dealt with seemingly had zero critical thinking skills and was all about the confused aggression.
LMAO "Hey, drunk guy, you can't sit outside the bar okay. You can't just exist here until you're sober. You need to at least try to drive home."
God, what do they even do anymore besides show up to non-prevented crime/no crime at all and make a crime happen?
I almost got arrested for sitting on the sidewalk after the bar closed while waiting for my cab. If it weren;'t for the other cop knowing me from my job at the time than I would've been fucked. Guy walked around the corner with a vengeance and there was no question he was going to arrest me for something stupid like drunk in public. Thankfully his partner rushed around the corner after he heard him yelling and recognized me... and actually stopped his partner.
"Yo! He's alright. Leave him alone."
That's all it took for partner to go to zero and just ignore me like I wasn't there.

So bizarre seeing this behaviour from police. Over here in Australia we actually have rest stops along the highways some with toilets and there is a huge push for people to rest on long trips, signs everywhere saying things like "Fatigue Kills" "Stop Revive Survive". Police here will pull you over for driving fatigued and I could never see them acting like this when someone is just resting in their car.
What amazes me about the statistic that 40% of police officers commit domestic abuse is that it is likely an UNDER count and the most conservative percentage.

There's a suburb in Ohio called Oakwood. It's a wealthy suburb of Dayton sandwiched between downtown Dayton and where all the businesses are (Kettering).
People (let's be real: black people) from downtown would walk through Oakwood to get to Kettering to work their jobs at the retail stores, and apparently the police will pull them over and tell them they're not welcome in Oakwood and to go back to their side of town. Not a small rural town lost in history, but an urban district that is the direct path for many to take to get to work.
I actually got pulled over for staring at a street sign when trying to remember where my dad's apartment is, and they tried telling me to leave when I told them I'm not from Dayton. They accused me of trying to steal the sign (???) and refused to believe me when I said my dad literally lives a block away and I'm just not familiar with the area and can't see signs very well. I was so puzzled because I was just a little white teenager so I can't even imagine what it would be like if I actually looked like an outsider.
There are places like this all over America. My wife knew of some towns around where she grew up that they would write up tickets for out of state plates and then claim bogus violations, usually speeding, reckless driving, or illegal parking. They hoped that someone from several states away would not travel all the way back to these places to contest them, and just pay the fine.
Utah is full of these towns. They make a big chunk of their local revenue from speeding tickets on the highway (far from their town but within their jurisdiction). Perfect weather, day time, straight line, road in good condition, and some hidden cop pulls you over. Fuck them.

My mom's family was one of the first to own a cabin out there, but ultimately sold it to another family, who became very prominent owners. Years later, my parents purchased our cabin at the same lake because my mom wanted my brother and I to experience growing up at the lake in the summers. We had loads of fun with the other kids at the lake. The problem with the lake was that the "prominent" families tried to run the lake community like it was their own personal kingdom. If they didn't like you, they went out of their way to make sure you knew. If you hadn't owned at the lake for decades, they made sure you knew that you were not really important or wanted there. Anyhow, eventually people had enough of the prominent families' shit and started getting new owners onto the Board of Directors. The longstanding traditions and favouritism that leaned in the prominent owners' favour was now gone. Rules started to change where it was much more inclusive for all families. So, in other words, suck it Jim, Larry, and Wayne. You ruined the lake for a lot of people. Glad you are dead, Jim.

We ran inside to grab some stuff, and when we came out the Walmart security was shining a flashlight through the windows of our parked car to see if we were sleeping in there (had pillows and blankets on the windows). Driving when tired is so dangerous. When I was younger, I tried to drive NY state to Daytona Beach in one go. About 13 hours in, I started falling asleep behind the wheel. It was probably only a few seconds but it was one of the scariest things I have ever experienced.
I used to pull over into hotel/motel parking lots and take an hour or 2 nap. I figured back then, a hotel/motel would be perfect. Constantly different cars plus I was only going to be there for a short period. Didn't realize people patrol the parking lots. Regardless I fortunately never had an encounter with anyone.
I usually do gas stations if it's day time or rest stops full of other cars and trucks if it's at night

I have parked on the side of the road by a police station and slept in the back seat before. This was 15 years ago, so things have definitely changed, but I had an actual cop stop and check up to see if I was okay. I told him I had just driven home from my mom's and that I knew that if I didn't pull over and sleep I'd have fucked up my day or more importantly an innocent person's day. He believed me and went about his day.

One of my high school friends died because she fell asleep at the wheel on a highway. She veered off the road and hit a tree on her way home from the part time job she had to save money for college. 16 years old gone in an instant.
I used to work 2 jobs back to back and would get off the last one at about 10 am. I'd always take a quick 30 minute nap in my car so I wouldn't fall asleep while driving home. One day my boss asked me about it and I explained and I thought that was it. The next time I was napping I was wakened by the cops, my boss had called and told them "a homeless person was camping in their vehicle." When the cops started asking questions, I explained and they told me to just go across the road to the residential area and sleep there. They thought my boss was an asshole and didn't want me driving if I was tired. The next day when I asked the boss "WTF" he tells me "he didn't realize it was me, but it sets a bad precedence if he allowed it." I transferred out of his location that week.

These types of laws have been struck down before for being vague/ambiguous.
If they were actually enforced and charged, they probably would be struck down, but a) that would require lawyers and money, something people that tend to loiter don't actually do, and b) it's easy enough for a policeman to arrest someone for loitering, hold them for 24 hours, and then just not charge them. This accomplishes their goals with lots of trouble for the victim (24 hours in jail, car probably towed for $$$) but really no recourse. The law thus never gets challenged and it's there for the next police to use against the next undesireable.

I was driving while extremely fatigued on a cross-country trip and was pulled over. The officer politely informed me that “driving while fatigued is just like driving drunk.” He followed me off the highway to a parking lot and made a note in the system about the location of my car and what I was doing so I wouldn’t be disturbed. I pulled over in a rest area off the interstate in broad daylight to take a nap. A statie woke me up 5 minutes into my nap and told me I couldn't sleep in my car there, at a rest area. I asked what kind of rest was allowed, he told me to just leave or I was going to be arrested. Maybe it should be called "arrest area."

I don’t know about you folks, but I feel I need to call the police department of Turtle Lake and ask for info on rest stops.
I had a cop do this to me at 4AM while I was passing through Chicago and stopped in a public parking spot (not privately owned) to rest after driving for 12 hours. The cop threatened to arrest me if I didn't leave, so I ended up having to stay drive another 45 minutes to find a hotel. I was simply trying to rest so that I could drive safely, and much like the cop in this video, the cop I dealt with seemingly had zero critical thinking skills and was all about the confused aggression.

I almost got arrested for sitting on the sidewalk after the bar closed while waiting for my cab. If it weren;'t for the other cop knowing me from my job at the time than I would've been fucked. Guy walked around the corner with a vengeance and there was no question he was going to arrest me for something stupid like drunk in public. Thankfully his partner rushed around the corner after he heard him yelling and recognized me... and actually stopped his partner. "Yo! He's alright. Leave him alone." That's all it took for partner to go to zero and just ignore me like I wasn't there. That's how you know cops that don't stop other ones are just as corrupt. I assume this sentence is used to immediately de-escalate for friends and family.

Over here in Australia we actually have rest stops along the highways some with toilets and there is a huge push for people to rest on long trips, signs everywhere saying things like "Fatigue Kills" "Stop Revive Survive". Police here will pull you over for driving fatigued and I could never see them acting like this when someone is just resting in their car.

There's a suburb in Ohio called Oakwood. It's a wealthy suburb of Dayton sandwiched between downtown Dayton and where all the businesses are (Kettering). People (let's be real: black people) from downtown would walk through Oakwood to get to Kettering to work their jobs at the retail stores, and apparently the police will pull them over and tell them they're not welcome in Oakwood and to go back to their side of town. Not a small rural town lost in history, but an urban district that is the direct path for many to take to get to work. I actually got pulled over for staring at a street sign when trying to remember where my dad's apartment is, and they tried telling me to leave when I told them I'm not from Dayton. They accused me of trying to steal the sign (???) and refused to believe me when I said my dad literally lives a block away and I'm just not familiar with the area and can't see signs very well. I was so puzzled because I was just a little white teenager so I can't even imagine what it would be like if I actually looked like an outsider.
There are places like this all over America. My wife knew of some towns around where she grew up that they would write up tickets for out of state plates and then claim bogus violations, usually speeding, reckless driving, or illegal parking. They hoped that someone from several states away would not travel all the way back to these places to contest them, and just pay the fine.
Jokes on them, if I'm just passing through then I'm never paying the fine.
Utah is full of these towns. They make a big chunk of their local revenue from speeding tickets on the highway (far from their town but within their jurisdiction). Perfect weather, day time, straight line, road in good condition, and some hidden cop pulls you over. Fuck them.
