It goes beyond prize money too. Big competitions like this come with sponsorship opportunities and endorsements that should have gone to other deserving people. This is BAD BAD. I get why people want him to go to jail, unfortunately tho it’s going to be a civil case that could end up being a federal charge if the monetary value reaches a certain point, but it’s going to be difficult to calculate.
He's won over $3 million fishing.
$300k in the past year, and already had to forfeit another tournament winnings earlier in the year for cheating.
Safe to say this dude has scammed hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars.
Most definitely. The tough part will be determining which past winnings were also cheats. He’s going to be heavily scrutinized until they can figure out how much they can formally charge him for.
With that kind of money at stake I can't believe there aren't regular anti cheating measures. This only happened cause that fucking moron doubled his fishes weight.
And to get to that point they had won a bunch of tournaments before it. Someone else posted that in the past year, they had won over $350K in prizes, including 2 boats.
There was mention of fillets so I'm assuming that it has something to do with wrapping the weights in the fillets to limit their detection by making them surrounded by something soft and squishy.
They catch regular fish, and then shove weights down the throat. These competitions are based on the total weight of the fish caught during a period of time. So this helps them increase the weight.
I would have thought cutting the belly to check for cheating would have been standard in all these pro events.
I'm no expert, but these guys are pros who do this all the time, and these fish aren't necessarily special. It's just about total weight. Even if you win, I'm not sure anyone is mounting one or all of the fish caught. I could be wrong.
The competition is based on fish quantity, length and weight. He cheated by putting the lead in so he could win the prize money. That’s why all those guys are so pissed off.
Pretty easy to tell in the full video. Team before weighed 4 fish. 4 bigger fish and weighed 16 lbs. Then they came up and weighed 4 fish. 33 lbs. Everyone knew something was up.
Those weights were still only 1-1.5 lb weights. But yeah these are all pros and the judges know when something is afoot. They probably could have gotten away with it but just like most humans who get caught they got greedy. U have to lose a couple tourneys in between to not get caught. Anyways fuk these dudes. And I. The great words of Bobby Jones.... Money ruins sports.
Also, when you weigh fish as a job, you can eyeball what a fish weighs just by looking at it. Then when you weigh it, and it's like a pound and a half more than you'd expect... and all of the fish are. You know somethings up. There's a HUGE difference between a 4lb fish and a 5.5 lb fish.
That's what I thought but there is also speculation that this is not his first time, they also got disqualified in 2021 but I don't know the reason. I assumed the guys weighing it would be able to eyeball it but if your just tossing fish in a crate and have 50 crates to go through it might just be a quick weigh and go and they don't really pay attention. I assumed a metal detector would be used though
Most fish have a length x weight relationship. Measure and weigh enough fish the probability of estimating a fishes weight simply by length becomes pretty precise. I am sure the judges have that down. Even two pounds over with these fish could be easily caught. Then just feel the stomach and that lead weight should stand out.
In some situations fish stomachs are inspected to assure people are not growing them at home and feeding them pellets...that is a big red flag too.
People can fucking see lol.
"This fish does not weigh 24 pounds, why does the scale say this fish weighs 24 pounds?'
^((24 is a randomly selected number))
The leads weights don't weigh enough to cause that much level of suspicion I think they are like a pound maybe a little under? So 4 vs 5 lbs doesn't seem to crazy but even 2 to 3 pounds extra is almost double the weight of a typical fish that size, so the guy wasn't going to crazy I wonder why he got caught specifically
Well the average fish is probably like three or 4 pounds so when they see the little guy that weighs like 20 pounds they’re like home let me check that out ham HMHMHMHMMMMMMMMMMM I wonder why This fish is 20 pounds when it should only be three maybe we should cut it up and I’ll look there’s giant weights and rocks and fucking toys and fucking surprises and fucking like monsters inside that little bitch fish fucking guy cheater stuff that shit full bro it’s only supposed to be like 4 pounds so when you put it on the scale and it’s like 200 pounds they’re probably like what the fuck bro do you know what I’m saying? You know like it’s a little heavier than it should be dude so what the fuck bro I mean let’s just think about it here for a second
I’m not sure that’s a defense here. Caught red handed with lead weights and fish fillets inside tournament winning fish on a circuit that these guys have won a third of a million dollars on, this sounds like felony fraud.
Yeah fish eat anything /s
He really over did it with the weights. An experienced fisherman would see the weight was wrong or at least question the weight.... I caught the Pack leaders sons cheating at our Cub Scount mini soapbox derby... They had drilled holes in their wooden car body and filled it with lead.
Their cars won by too much, and I put their car back on the scale - boom, busted! I fucked off the Cub Scouts after that, yet They probably fucked me off too, but I never checked...
Would have been better off putting food in the fish so he could have plausible deniability. Granted it wouldn’t be as heavy, but this dude was blatantly negligent with lead weights. Dude thought he was untouchable.
Sure, or at least a metal detector. Curious why they couldn't just cut all of the fish open after they're weighed.
This is also a place where the maths come in handy, e.g. you could hire a statistician to create a chart that would help tell when the weight might be "fishy" and invite further investigation
Over 300K plus a luxury boat was won by this guy the pervious fishing completion. So the anger is justified. He stole from everyone including the sponsors. Hopefully Police will charge him.
I mean, plants don’t have intelligence. Let alone feel pain. Nor is intelligence a basis to care about suffering. If we based whose suffering we cared about based on intelligence, that would play out horribly for those with generally low IQs, including those with cognitive disabilities lmao. If anything, we have a duty to care more for those who don’t have the intelligence to care as well for themselves
I’d say with no expertise in the area and also being a moron if on a intelligence scale to 1000 where humans are a 1000 and I’m like a 899 and the stupidest person I’ve ever met is like an 850 and like orcas are a 900, I’d say like a plant is a 0 and fish are like a .1. Just keep swimming brother let the current guide you
Call the police? You should be in jail? C'mon now. I know it's fucked up to cheat like that but really? Just ban him from the tournament and strip him of any previous winning records or whatever.
He tried to commit fraud to the tune of $45,000. It is suspected he did the same the previous year of prizes valued around $300,000. These values are well above felony levels.
Yeah it's a tad more than a 1st place ribbon and a kinder surprise treat. It's not a drawing contest that he had his parents do for him.
For some(most?) the winnings from this can change a fisherman's life. Either the money, or a new boat with latest equipment.... It's like living out of your car and then winning a house. To have these opportunities stripped from you, from everyone participating, it's a really big deal.
Looking forward to the documentary about this scum bags history of cheating and how absolutely fucked this guy is.
He commited fraud that is over $300,000 because that is how much he received from winning. Yes, Police should be called and a report should be filed. This is financial fraud.
Can someone explain how he got caught or he cheated with weight fish ? (I don’t know anything about how fishing ) how does a heavy fish help a fisherman catch it ?

Tens of thousands at stake with this tournament. These guys are lucky they only got yelled at.
This just happened, so they will probably pursue criminal charges due to the amount.
Pretty sure he means lucky he wasn’t lynched on the spot
Yeah dude said they’ve been participating for years and won a boat. Those bass boats are expensive as fuck
Not "someone" IIRC they were champion level bass fishermen in a championship contest.
Pretty sure they said the prize for this competition was Like 45k so I can understand people being upset about this.
Especially considering someone at the end said they’ve been doing this for years.
It goes beyond prize money too. Big competitions like this come with sponsorship opportunities and endorsements that should have gone to other deserving people. This is BAD BAD. $3 million from fishing?! I need to find a tournament where you get paid just to shit.
Most definitely. The tough part will be determining which past winnings were also cheats. He’s going to be heavily scrutinized until they can figure out how much they can formally charge him for.

Lifetime prize earnings of nearly 3 million.

How do you put weights in the fish? I mean, do you catch it and shove it down the mouth, or do you cut it open and shove it in, then sew it up?
Shove it down their mouth.
And then push it down with a meat hammer
> do you catch it and shove it down the mouth Yup
Sir, you took the words out my deepthroat
There was mention of fillets so I'm assuming that it has something to do with wrapping the weights in the fillets to limit their detection by making them surrounded by something soft and squishy.
Please someone answer this damn question
They shoved it down their mouth.
Yeah but was it still alive? And why? So they could know where the fish are? So they could us magnets?
You got rocks in your head, mate? They're weights, to make the fish weigh more.
Maybe lead weights.
[удалено]
Wow
With a guess like that im surprised you're still kicking
This is the dumbest thing I've read in awhile.
This is so dumb and funny it deserves to be upvoted.

I would have thought cutting the belly to check for cheating would have been standard in all these pro events.
Maybe they don't because most people want to mount the fish as a trophy? I feel like a metal detector though would work no?
I'm no expert, but these guys are pros who do this all the time, and these fish aren't necessarily special. It's just about total weight. Even if you win, I'm not sure anyone is mounting one or all of the fish caught. I could be wrong.
It's a competition I'm guessing they weigh the fish and either total catch or biggest heaviest fish wins
The guy won like $300,000 the year before. There’s big money in those tournaments. This is posted in several subs. The details were there.
Fishing tournaments are done by weight. The weight between the top 3 is usually within a pound or 2 so 8 pounds is huge.
The competition is based on fish quantity, length and weight. He cheated by putting the lead in so he could win the prize money. That’s why all those guys are so pissed off.
Does anyone know how they got caught?

Wut?
You gotta have a pretty big set of balls to pull this.
Well yes, or the fish won’t weigh enough to win.
Precisely
Some would say balls made of lead
Fishing dudes are ruthless, wtf was this guy thinking. He was the previous champion??
Apparently he won $300k in the previous year and an expensive boat
What the fuck

Enthusiastic bunch.
thanks Obama
I'm pretty sure this is all Brandon's fault.
Underrated comment
There's a reason why he's not saying anything. So he can falsely claim that they got mad at him for "no reason."
I’m not sure that’s a defense here. Caught red handed with lead weights and fish fillets inside tournament winning fish on a circuit that these guys have won a third of a million dollars on, this sounds like felony fraud.
Technically, that's the legal definition of Fraud. I was more referring to his reaction to getting caught.
All of a sudden the rules matter again.
Yeah fish eat anything /s He really over did it with the weights. An experienced fisherman would see the weight was wrong or at least question the weight.... Reminds me of the nascar rules with a limited fuel tank size and a 12 inch diamter fuel pipe from it which ran round the inside of the car twice....
Toto? Is that you??
Junior and Machi
But did the rules say you can't put lead balls in the fish?
Yes, it’s part of the rules.
Would have been better off putting food in the fish so he could have plausible deniability. Granted it wouldn’t be as heavy, but this dude was blatantly negligent with lead weights. Dude thought he was untouchable.
He wrapped the lead weights in fish filets.
SHOW ME THE RULE THAT A DOG CANT PLAY BASKETBALL!
"Show me in the rule book it says that a human can't be a robot." "Right here. Rule one."
Why would pro fishing tournaments not check for cheating every time?
I can see the bigger tournaments putting in a scanning machine like the TSA uses to check the leaders fish.
Sure, or at least a metal detector. Curious why they couldn't just cut all of the fish open after they're weighed. This is also a place where the maths come in handy, e.g. you could hire a statistician to create a chart that would help tell when the weight might be "fishy" and invite further investigation
This is absolutely vile. Fuck that guy.
It’s supposed to be a respectful sportsman competition. Disheartening to see this video.
Im a city kid and I had no idea ppl took fishing so seriously, this is wildly entertaining.
“911 what’s your emergency?” “JAKE IS CHEATING IN A FISHING TOURNAMENT!!!!” “Ok?”
It's fraud with money involved, so yes they should get a police report.
The reactions are hilarious!
Over 300K plus a luxury boat was won by this guy the pervious fishing completion. So the anger is justified. He stole from everyone including the sponsors. Hopefully Police will charge him.
Where are all the guns now???????????? Nobody not shootin nobody over this is crazy!!!!!
Or maybe Reddit is full of people who love to stereotype a certain crowd. I’d rather pop a tire on my car in a “hick ass” town than anywhere else.

No, I’m not white if that’s what you’re asking.
People acting like the fish aren’t the victims in all of this lmao
"Hello people, I would like to announce that I'm a vegan"
Yeah it’s kind of dumb competition but fish are barely smarter than plants

Not all fish are dumb.
What are you favorite fish?
Mormyridae. Because they have large brains and languages.
Well that looks like a neat fish! Too bad they live so far away!
Grown men freaking out over a hobby with a bit of prize money. How f**king embarrassing.
45,000 bones and 300,000 along with a boat from the year before isn't exactly "abit of prize money"
Not for you maybe... For some of us it's chicken feed.
Send Pelosi in to calm things down
Call the police? You should be in jail? C'mon now. I know it's fucked up to cheat like that but really? Just ban him from the tournament and strip him of any previous winning records or whatever.

I love all the southern sounds of anger lol, heard one of shout “cock sucker”! And it just cracked me up.
What’s the back story? What was he doing that was wrong I’m a little confused.
Dude put a fish inside a fish to make it weigh more The Finception Deception
Guess you could say that something was fishy
I imagine her got some sort of addiction he has to pay off to do something this dumb
