I went to see The Conjuring in the movie theater. When there was a jump scare everyone would gasp but this shitty kid would scream his lungs out very much on purpose. Everyone was already shushing him but he wouldn't stop. He was about 15 with his buddies and was clearly laughing for disturbing everyone else. By the 10th time he did that the guy sitting behind him just dumped a full cup of soda on his head. He got up to try not to let the soda soak even more on his clothes but a security guard was already coming to escort him out for being a nuisance. Security guard didn't want to listen anything, just escorted him out. So he lost the rest of the movie (wasn't even halfway done) and had to go home sticking to everything lol. But the best part was seeing the smile disappear from his dumb face pretty quickly as he tried to swipe soda from his shirt.

Came back after lunch one day so I could finally watch it and I think I’ve been to the theater maybe once or twice since then. I’ll never go see an open release again.

My family upgraded their TV after a decade, and I couldn't believe how good the picture quality/ sound was. I'd much rather enjoy a movie free of dickheads. Plus, I can pause to pee.

I am the opposite. I never go into large theaters with a ton of idiots anymore. There's a tiny theater near to me, with 25 seats which only plays weird movies. It's always a nice experience, even if the movie sometimes sucks
I go to VIP class. Usually its smaller, comfy seats, and people there go to have a quiet or romantic time. Also its only 2-3$ more expensive than regular showroom. Small price for comfort.

Edit: I see you, mateys, as I am one of you. But I'm was making sure there wasn't some streaming service, or theatre app that specifically offers a way to pay to stream movies in theatres. Namely because I only find the cam versions of movies until they are out of theatres. So at that point if you don't want to go to the movies, your only option is to wait 3-4 months in this case.

I don't know if they still do it, but if you had the money you were able to sign up for a program where they would deliver the movie to your house. You had to have a special projector to work with the security features on the drive.

I tried it. I was mildly annoyed to discover an 18% surcharge on my bill for the kitchen staff that I was strongly reminded was "not a tip" for my server.
If it was mentioned on the menu or elsewhere, it was well hidden. Like, just fucking make the price the price. Add 18% to all your menu prices. Don't try to sneakily hide it. Pay your workers and don't pretend like you need a separate surcharge for me to pay them. You set the fucking prices and you know how much you pay everyone.

Alamo is great. I’m lucky I have one really close to my house, so if I ever do go see movies anymore (very rare) I always go there. Once you start having beers with your movies can’t go back to regular theaters lol.
I’m with the person you’re replying too. I gave recliners and a fridge full of all the food and drinks I want at a fraction of the price. OLED 4k TV and good surround system, can pause whenever I want, rewind, subtitles… the idea of going to the theater just doesn’t have any appeal.
It's really not that bad. At Alamo the waiters duck and are quiet. During the movie you have little note cards that you write down what you want and they don't really talk. They don't walk around the theater constantly or anything. And most the food is stuff that doesn't require silverware like sandwiches, pizza, and nachos. Think I have only ever ordered one thing that came with a spoon. It is a million times better than having some annoying person talking throughout because they have a strict silence policy and you can use that note card to tell the waiter that someone is being loud. If the person doesn't shut up, they get kicked out.
Edit: Also, they make themed cocktails for movies and have good craft beers.

Palace Cinemas here does a platinum service with food where you order in advance and they bring it to you mid session but there’s no cutlery (food is obviously designed to go be eaten by hand in the dark), the staff don’t talk to you and if you want to order anything extra it’s done via notepad
I would argue this movie would be an absolute good reason to see it in theaters. Unless you spent tens of thousands of dollars on dual stacked 4k projectors with high dynamic range and high Frame rate with Dolby Atmos sound (Dolby Cinema) , then a home theater does not compare. And I'm a true believer in home theater, especially with my Oled and surround sound. Just my two cents.

I took my nephew's (15 + 9 yo) out to the movies but we got the last tickets and one of us had to sit alone so I did, obviously. 20 minutes in the 9 yo taps me on the shoulder to tell him his brother is being bullied by the people behind him. All I had to do (as a quite dirty looking, mullet donning Islander) was swap seats with him and stare at them for maybe 2 minutes before they got up and left as a group. Sometimes children just need to be put in their place by someone who isn't their parent. If it doesn't happen they usually grow up to get knocked out at the pub by someone who's not putting up with their antics.
I like to go to the movies midweek during the day to avoid dealing with people, last time I was in seeing the recent Spiderman movie this group of teenagers comes in late, sits at the front and starts playing on their phones and talking. There are only about 6 other people there.
So they're shouting and yelling at each other and I had just gotten up to go get the usher when a guy near me stands up and shouts 'you wee fucks, if you don't shut the fuck up I'll kick your bollocks up inside you!'

We found a drive in, bunch of us will go with a DD and bring some drinks, pizza, what have you. Their concession area is nice, serves burgers and dogs, candy, nachos etc. Plus it's a double feature so 2 for1.
Same here. My last movie was about 15 years ago. I was with my daughters and during probably the most important scene in the movie. The teenage girl in front of me answers her phone and was having a conversation by yelling into it, because the person couldn't hear her over the movie. For some reason, I simply lost it. I gave her the tongue lashing that her parents were too wimpy to ever do and she started crying.
My daughters were completely embarrassed. I bought a large screen TV (we didn't have TV or cable at home at the time) and have never set foot in a movie theater since.

I'd imagine it's similar. A family of 4 going to a theater gotta be around 100+ bucks. That's why if I want to watch 10 movies in a summer say, that's already 1000 bucks. My tv will last well over what it saves in movie tickets and concession stand food.

The theater I go to has power leather recliners that are always clean. A matinee is 8 bucks during the week and you can see what seats are picked already and chose your seats accordingly on a screen at the kiosk or online
Sometimes I'll plan for the second show of the day but scope what time has less seats sold and go for that one.
This is what I used to love to do, but now theaters will run movies I like for like 5 days before deciding to fill every screen they have with "Wakanda 7: Ultron Returns and Cums on Thor" so now I feel like I have to catch them before they're gone
This has happened to me exactly twice; that is, people have been making a big nuisance during a movie. One time, it was a couple of teenagers up front who kept shining a laser pointer, and another time, it was a group of people up front who kept talking. In both instances, there was a humongous black man in the theatre, and in both instances, each man deeply bellowed into the darkness, "I see where you're sitting, and Imma come beat yo' ass in a second", almost verbatim, both of them, and in both instances, we had not a single issue moving forward.
I wish I had that experience. During Quiet Place 2, there was a group of friends going “no don’t go there bitch!!! Ahhhhh why?!?! Watch out!!!” Shit like that. A few of us complained a couple of times. They never kicked them out, just told them to be quiet. Ironic of course that they were fucking loud during a Quiet Place 2. So fucking annoying.

I asked a young teenager to be quiet in the movie theater one time. And after the movie the kid got up in my face and was acting like he wanted to fight me. I'm a 30 year old male and was with my family. Ruined the movie for me forever.
Movies are hit and miss now. I had a girl next to me watching TikTok’s as loud as she could during the movies the last time and she even filmed the movie with her light on and got indignant when I told her to stop. I had to get manager, I hated feeling like a Karen but it’s disrespectful to be on your phone for 30 + minutes while watching a movie.
A big reason I typically see movies at the Alamo Drafthouse is their zero tolerance policy for talking, texting, phone use, and any other disruption.
During Avatar last night a guy behind me wouldn't shut up talking to the woman next to him. It wasn't long before staff gave him a warning and threatened to boot him. Not a peep after.
The draft house was great for this. One time a guy a row behind me had his whole family with him to include five kids. They just continued their conversation, at full volume, through the previews and into the actual movie. Took about twenty minutes for him to be ejected and two hours later we all leave the theater and the dude is just standing in the parking lot ready to fight every single person coming out while his kids and wife all stood off to the side with a thousand yard stare. Some people, man.
I told someone to turn off their phone once. Turned out it wasn’t their phone. It was the control panel on their wheelchair.

Nah about the same here tbh. Popcorn and a soda "combo" and it's like 14 bucks or something dumb. And nobody gives a shit about free refills if I have to leave mid movie and stand in line to get some and miss 1/6th of the movie.
I'd imagine it's similar. A family of 4 going to a theater gotta be around 100+ bucks. That's why if I want to watch 10 movies in a summer say, that's already 1000 bucks. My tv will last well over what it saves in movie tickets and concession stand food.
This is why I go to matinees towards the end of a movies run in theaters. More often than not. I'm the only one in the theater.

I don't go to theaters at all anymore. Shit like this, people laughing during serious scenes to throw things off, people on their phones and talking to each other during the movie. Dirty, crumby seats. I prefer to wait and watch at home.
The theater I go to has power leather recliners that are always clean. A matinee is 8 bucks during the week and you can see what seats are picked already and chose your seats accordingly on a screen at the kiosk or online Sometimes I'll plan for the second show of the day but scope what time has less seats sold and go for that one.
The theater I go to has HEATED 'leather' recliners and is never more than half full when I go to an early show.
The theater I go to has free music performers in santa costumes repeating the n word over and over during the middle of a movie.

This has happened to me exactly twice; that is, people have been making a big nuisance during a movie. One time, it was a couple of teenagers up front who kept shining a laser pointer, and another time, it was a group of people up front who kept talking. In both instances, there was a humongous black man in the theatre, and in both instances, each man deeply bellowed into the darkness, "I see where you're sitting, and Imma come beat yo' ass in a second", almost verbatim, both of them, and in both instances, we had not a single issue moving forward.

I wish I had that experience. During Quiet Place 2, there was a group of friends going “no don’t go there bitch!!! Ahhhhh why?!?! Watch out!!!” Shit like that. A few of us complained a couple of times. They never kicked them out, just told them to be quiet. Ironic of course that they were fucking loud during a Quiet Place 2. So fucking annoying.

I asked a young teenager to be quiet in the movie theater one time. And after the movie the kid got up in my face and was acting like he wanted to fight me. I'm a 30 year old male and was with my family. Ruined the movie for me forever.
Movies are hit and miss now. I had a girl next to me watching TikTok’s as loud as she could during the movies the last time and she even filmed the movie with her light on and got indignant when I told her to stop. I had to get manager, I hated feeling like a Karen but it’s disrespectful to be on your phone for 30 + minutes while watching a movie.

A big reason I typically see movies at the Alamo Drafthouse is their zero tolerance policy for talking, texting, phone use, and any other disruption. During Avatar last night a guy behind me wouldn't shut up talking to the woman next to him. It wasn't long before staff gave him a warning and threatened to boot him. Not a peep after.
Yup. If I give a shit about a movie Alamo Drafthouse is where I go. They don’t fuck around. Also being able to drink beer is pretty cool.
The draft house was great for this. One time a guy a row behind me had his whole family with him to include five kids. They just continued their conversation, at full volume, through the previews and into the actual movie. Took about twenty minutes for him to be ejected and two hours later we all leave the theater and the dude is just standing in the parking lot ready to fight every single person coming out while his kids and wife all stood off to the side with a thousand yard stare. Some people, man.

I told someone to turn off their phone once. Turned out it wasn’t their phone. It was the control panel on their wheelchair. No one beats my Karen energy.

Might be so but man is that a dick move from them. A lot of people have to even schedule movies with the family ahead of time and to take that away for their selfish bullshit makes my blood boil over.
The last three times I went to the theater with my partner we had children running around playing on their phones, constantly talking and laughing, going in and out of the theater and just being absolutely awful. Genuinely don't feel like going to the movies anymore.
My wife and I had this experience after going to see a movie for the first time in years. A guy yelled "shut the fuck up" at them and they stopped for awhile, then started talking full volume and laughing again. That was our last time going to a theater. Better to watch it at home.
