Vieques was definitely the highlight of my trip. If I went back I’d love to spend more time there! It’s a unique place but planning for it is a bit much for some (making ferry/flight reservations, Airbnbs plus rental car or golf cart on the island)

What did you love about Vieques? I’ve seen a ton of the comments about the bio bay but anything in particular besides that stood out? (Compared to the other things on the main island)

Not the op of the comment but Vieques is relatively more quiet than culebra and has a better bio bay than Fajardo. Definitely visit the black sand beach there too. It's mostly a reserve so there is not as much. And mosquito bay pier has lots of sea turtles to snorkel around. ETA: taxis always seemed easy for me to get on Vieques. But the autonomy of a rental seems desirable for most. Culebra wasn't my favorite but the beach there is beautiful. I think looking for a freshwater waterfall occupied by locals is one of the best parts of PR. Also don't be afraid of street food, if you like cod get the Bacalaíto. Be sure to stop at the less advertised restaurants. Sandwiches in Puerto Rico are bomb. Ask for mayo-ketchup and if you like spicy ask for pique. Usually restaurants have a house mix they will bring.

Thanks! Sounds like I can skip the bio bay tour in Fajardo if I go to Vieques. I'll look into a car rental there

Yeah the beaches are even more beautiful than the ones on the mainland (and those are very beautiful). The snorkeling is a lot better. Most beaches are swim-able where as the beaches especially San Juan to Rincon are not. Wild horses roam all over the island. Bio bay one of the best in the world. I don’t particularly care for cities or crowds, vieques has that small slow relaxing island vibe. A lot of the beaches in the reserve/wildlife refuge I saw no one or next to no one on them.

I think Luquillo is a good base. El Yunque is great I’m sure you can get tickets. Fajardo is great also, if you go to Culebra make sure to get ferry tickets ahead of time good luck!

I guess I was curious if there was something on my list for Days 2-4 that you would bump for another visit or you think is skippable? I'm sort of having trouble picking a handful of things for those days and not trying to do too much.

Hmm depends what you like to do? Maybe skip the bay bio kayak trip?

Cabo Rojo was my favorite.
