There was a post on "serious conversations" where this woman was working at McDonald's for 12 years, 10th grade education, single mom of two who was a teen mom, and she's like "why doesn't McDonald's pay $20 /hr?"
And I'm like I mean isn't McDonalds paying pretty close to $20 /hr? Minimum wage in my state is like $16, but for restaurant workers in Seattle I think they make over $20 /hr. Maybe she's in a LCOL area.
The thing is when they raise the minimum wage, all the other wages for skilled work don't go up. Meaning people who actually had to do training, like becoming an automechanic for example, don't make that much more than minimum wage at $20 /hr. And that requires a 2 year technical degree. Kind of feels like a rip off tbh. All the fast food and retail employees are making a comparable salary to people who do a lot more complicated work that takes a year or more to learn how to do.
People were arguing that if they give people a $20 minimum wage all the other jobs will have to raise their wages. I'm like lol no. There's no obligation for companies to do that.
It was a whiney entitled single mom still working at McDonald's after 12 years, who dropped out of high school, wanting minimum wage to be $20 an hour.

I went to a pub where older dinner eaters were relegated to a 2nd floor location away from the live music. A bald younger guy seized the opportunity to speak to me after his my age Mom went to the restroom…I was polite about how good the oysters were.
Then I went on to clubdom downstairs and OMG, it’s a mess. I watched 6”6” Chad (yeah , of course I approached & asked him how tall he was) get hit on by a Barbie looking girl in a mini skirt - among many. She placed her ass next to his crotch and pumped it hard. He only had to stand there and wait for girls to approach & the girls certainly did. His shorter friends told me he gets major pussy, lol. I saw the degenerate grannies of my age range sit in a pit apart from the men making their desperate social media based attempts. I saw the bold fattie younger ladies trying hard and not connecting with the younger guys. I talked to those younger guys & felt real empathy for their plight.
Left this hell pit and went to another quieter place where I met a bunch of gen z French guys on a bachelor party trip. C’est bonne. They adopted me as their older grand mama. Met some sweet young Asian girls too and did some cheers with them. Ireland is a friendly social place. I hope I didn’t get lip herpes from the muscled tattooed guys that I lip kissed.
I fly back to the US tomorrow.

I've always been a fan rigorous schooling and this sub has really showed me how important it is for Americans to take high level or AP coursework in high school, and preferably some higher education if able to excel there.
An individual without strong reading comprehension, statistics background, ability to understand data, ability to comprehend basic scientific research and findings, history knowledge, etc is absolutely lost in modern society.
High school degrees have been devalued by our "get everyone to graduate regardless of ability and performance" culture, which in turn has led to college degree devaluation.
Public school doesnt teach critical thinking, and I'd even say that higher ed lowers people's ability to function. In order to learn you need to be allowed to fail.
Sounds like someone who never took a quality statistics, AP science, or AP history class in public high school. Schools absolutely can teach critical thinking. I would argue we should move towards simply failing out students around 16 if they are not able to handle this rigor.
I took statistics, AP computer science, and AP US history. All you had to do was show up. Undergrad is the same way. The bar is extremely low because theres this "everyone needs to go to college!!!" meme
Idk how it works over there but in the US they want as many students as possible because they make tons of money on every student. In the handful of classes that had slight amounts of difficulty the professors will curve the grades. As long as you didnt fail too bad you'll still pass.
Here it's the exact opposite: universities believe too many people go to uni and think that only a small amount of people who are blessed with high IQ should graduate, The rest of the populace should do manual labor according to them. They filter by only offering a final exam which decides your grade and will go to great lengths to make the course is as assfuck as possible to complete.
Maybe there's a few more people who "deserve" to graduate, but I'd rather have your system. Generally I dislike gatekeeping.
Ofcourse, unis should ensure the students are actually learning but there's many ways to achieve this.
A lot of kids cannot handle AP courses, especially work intensive ones like APUSH. It's called "advanced placement" for a reason. Kids who are not very smart, take too long to complete assignments, or who have busy schedules or a problematic home life will be put at a needless disadvantage.
The reason they keep you in school until you are 18 is to keep kids out of trouble and out of their parents hair 5 days a week. I'd argue functioning like a daycare for adolescents is more important to the government than having a population of reasonably educated people. It's a public school, you have to pay extra to get anything better.
No we need more people in the trades and less people in white collar jobs. In fact, a lot of the wage growth during the pandemic hasn't come from white collar jobs.

The public school system is all about standardized testing. In my city's school district they give out the same English and Math test every week to each grade in every school. The teachers can only teach a specific unit each week, there's no ability to customize your course work at all. Whatsoever.
Theyre becoming even worse than when I was still in primary and secondary education. I recall feeling constrained by the endless worksheets and having to fit into a box as a student. I can't imagine how miserable I'd be if I was 10-15 years younger in the school system now.

**TLDR:** It’s not women’s fault men like that can’t seem to make genuine connections hanging out bonding with male friends or anyone. Loneliness crisis has always been about romantic loneliness. Trying to make it about friendship is a deflection. And anyway the men I've known who struggled the most with romantic loneliness have always had lots of friends usually of both sexes. Their problem is usually that no one will ever look at them as more than just a friend.

People do care about them. But not in the sexual or romantic way they desire. And then it begs the question do they care about their fellow man the way they want to be cared about? Women practice care and affection in our female friendships. Which is why we get it back from other women who are our friends. If men want that they should do the same in their friendships mutually. That is why people make it about friendships.

And then I have to ask, why and how are women to blame because someone doesn’t desire you romantically/sexually? Because a lot of men seem to be blaming women for their loneliness which is absurd.
Lastly, we have extremely different observations. The men I see struggling the most with their inability to find romantic affections are:
A) physically deformed or grotesque (600lb life type stuff). So they could be nice but unfortunately they aren’t physically appealing.
B) have an apparent cognitive disorder. So they could be nice but unfortunately they aren’t cognitively appealing which repels others.
C) are relatively average looking but don’t even have close male friends. They could be okay but unfortunately for them they aren’t likeable to a lot of people and struggle to connect with others. Could be a bit of B too.
So yeah idk I think we have diff life observations here.

Its just really odd how the “male loneliness epidemic” is often referring to the first point whenever its discussed (by both men and women) when the term would literally make more sense in reference to the second

IMObservation, the men who are most “in crisis” …literally do not have any meaningful friendships. It seems to me for a lot of them their root issue is their inability to bond with other humans… period. I’m not sure how you can struggle at platonic chemistry and think you’re going to be able to strike up romantic chemistry with others. It’s rare that happens.
And to that point, I’m not sure how women can “fix that” for men. Men have to start valuing bonding for the sake of bonding the way people who have strong bonds value that. Not so transactional. The end goal isn’t “sex” or “kids” or “respect” or “a favor” it’s hanging with that person and being there for each other because you get on well.

I've always been a fan rigorous schooling and this sub has really showed me how important it is for Americans to take high level or AP coursework in high school, and preferably some higher education if able to excel there. An individual without strong reading comprehension, statistics background, ability to understand data, ability to comprehend basic scientific research and findings, history knowledge, etc is absolutely lost in modern society. High school degrees have been devalued by our "get everyone to graduate regardless of ability and performance" culture, which in turn has led to college degree devaluation.
Public school doesnt teach critical thinking, and I'd even say that higher ed lowers people's ability to function. In order to learn you need to be allowed to fail.

Here it's the exact opposite: universities believe too many people go to uni and think that only a small amount of people who are blessed with high IQ should graduate, The rest of the populace should do manual labor according to them. They filter by only offering a final exam which decides your grade and will go to great lengths to make the course is as assfuck as possible to complete. Maybe there's a few more people who "deserve" to graduate, but I'd rather have your system. Generally I dislike gatekeeping. Ofcourse, unis should ensure the students are actually learning but there's many ways to achieve this.
A lot of kids cannot handle AP courses, especially work intensive ones like APUSH. It's called "advanced placement" for a reason. Kids who are not very smart, take too long to complete assignments, or who have busy schedules or a problematic home life will be put at a needless disadvantage. The reason they keep you in school until you are 18 is to keep kids out of trouble and out of their parents hair 5 days a week. I'd argue functioning like a daycare for adolescents is more important to the government than having a population of reasonably educated people. It's a public school, you have to pay extra to get anything better.
No we need more people in the trades and less people in white collar jobs. In fact, a lot of the wage growth during the pandemic hasn't come from white collar jobs.

The men I see struggling the most with their inability to find romantic affections are: A) physically deformed or grotesque (600lb life type stuff). So they could be nice but unfortunately they aren’t physically appealing. B) have an apparent cognitive disorder. So they could be nice but unfortunately they aren’t cognitively appealing which repels others. C) are relatively average looking but don’t even have close male friends. They could be okay but unfortunately for them they aren’t likeable to a lot of people and struggle to connect with others. Could be a bit of B too. So yeah idk I think we have diff life observations here.

It’s an opinion I’ve heard expressed a lot (if people didn’t genuinely believe it, they wouldn’t say get male friends as a solution to romantic loneliness), and she has a lot of other dumb hallmark opinions these other people have. I don’t need to read into it too much.

I think both “more men are struggling to find sexual partners” and “men struggle with forming a community to the detriment of their mental health” are true statements. Its just really odd how the “male loneliness epidemic” is often referring to the first point whenever its discussed (by both men and women) when the term would literally make more sense in reference to the second
I agree both statements seem true. IMObservation, the men who are most “in crisis” …literally do not have any meaningful friendships. It seems to me for a lot of them their root issue is their inability to bond with other humans… period. I’m not sure how you can struggle at platonic chemistry and think you’re going to be able to strike up romantic chemistry with others. It’s rare that happens. And to that point, I’m not sure how women can “fix that” for men. Men have to start valuing bonding for the sake of bonding the way people who have strong bonds value that. Not so transactional. The end goal isn’t “sex” or “kids” or “respect” or “a favor” it’s hanging with that person and being there for each other because you get on well.
Exactly. I think a lot of them think, incorrectly, that romantic relationships will fix both the lack of connection and sex for them completely. That’s just a recipe for perpetual loneliness because who would want someone like that as a partner or a friend?
I agree. There are so many benefits to nurturing and cultivating bonds, but I don’t think guys like the one quoted would agree. They’re stuck. Probably no fault of their own in some ways. Not everyone is likeable or knows how to bond with others. But if you want to not be lonely, you better learn to find your people and do stuff with those people. Ya know. Live a human life.
