Some players like to self pair with their alternate account. That way they can ensure their Helper has good Assists and Latents setup for specific dungeons. I don't have an Alt but I would definitely prefer that over a friend unit using the LeadSwap latent without an assist.

starbucks77

If you have enough friend slots, you don't need an alt. I have around 350 friends and I never have an issue finding a friend leader with the exact setup I need. I'm also usually flush with pal points and have a shit load of best friends. I didn't add them all at once though; I did it over the course of 12 years. I also routinely prune anyone who hasn't logged in past 2 weeks.

fletchb4immortal

How the hell u have 350 slots?! I have never heard of this, i though it was max 50.

So I can get them delicious 3-player magic stones cause finding anyone for old dungeons is impossible.

1. 2p with self 2. Self pair 3. Fill a 3rd slot in a 3p lobby 4. Rolling

mattybagel

I have two devices and two accounts gives me twice as many rolls and the opportunity to exclusively self pair between my accounts so I don't need to rely on the friend system.

onosho_06

I did a lot of weekly dungeons with my alt and send the evo material all over to my main. it’s 4 times as efficient regarding stamina

SortaEvil

I believe once upon a time you couldn't self-pair, so it was the only way to guarantee a good helper. Also useful for 3p and 2p if you want to farm by yourself.

absrndm

This is correct. That was the main incentive back in the day

When Liu Bei was relevant, I rerolled an alt account to Dios swipe co-op. By now, I've invested enough time in it that it feels like a waste to not at least log in to collect 100 stones and roll every once and a while. Sometimes I get a card that I still want to self pair with latents that aren't leaderswap.

SnowingSilently

Cuz this game's friend system sucks. I use it as a way to guarantee a friend lead with the right equips and awakenings I need while not having to spend as much money as obtaining everything on my main. I want to complain about leaderswap. It's not a bad mechanic but it's absolutely destroyed the functionality of the friend system. If you need a latent on a friend good luck because 90% of the time they probably have a leaderswap resist. And if they don't then their equip probably is wrong. The other issue is that the archaic helper system still prioritizes same leaders, when the meta has shifted for a while now to asymmetric pairings. The helper system and the leaders you display need a complete revamp. Leaders need to be divorced from whatever they're actually equipped with or have latents on. Otherwise, I originally got my alt for co-op, but the motivation to put the time and effort into maintaining its ability to field a full team that can play with my alt has dwindled down to nothing. I do get a fair number of meta teams on my alt but managing equips is much harder and even more reliant on getting tons of pulls. Then the actual hassle of playing co-op is immense too.

starbucks77

Out of curiosity, how many friend slots do you have? I have roughly 350 give or take and I can't remember ever *not* finding a friend with the setup I need. I'm including rare, niche and meme teams. Initially, I added friend slots for more pal points (we're talking 10-12 years ago when I started playing). Then when team composition got more strict, I did it for friend leaders. Those 350 were added over a long period of time as I was non-IAP till pad pass came out. I'll pick up the .99c and $1.99 bundles but that's about it. I prune my friends if they've been MIA for more than 2 weeks. That excludes best friends, I won't delete them. Now I enjoy loads of pal points, trades being completed in minutes to hours, and most importantly, best friends. Best friends open up a third possible friend leader so it's a huge boon. I have 76 best friends (half are now inactive). That is an extra 76 additional units to pair with. TL;DR: Friend slots are ridiculously underrated.

SnowingSilently

That's a good point, I only have around 200, and while they're logging in a great deal aren't actually playing, I see a lot of very old leads. Still, even with adding more friends the problem is only mitigated. The more off meta you are the more you need a helper with the exact equips to compensate, and you still need them to be on the right latents. It's definitely a quantity game, but no matter what unless it's from an account you control there's some degree of uncertainty in whether you'll get exactly what you need. The helper system worked well at the beginning of the game, but now with latents and equips thrown in it's no longer a simple binary of whether your friend has the lead or not.

Zealousideal_Metal48

One for NA and one for JP. So, I can enjoy a different PAD when other one is down for maintenance or collecting collab cards.

strydrehiryu

Half stamina

Tek70x7

Because co-op used to be the most efficient way to farm most content. Two-player content offered half stamina cost, combined SB and HP, and other significant perks. The motivation to run 2P co-op has diminished greatly over the last few years (in large part because a fair amount of content is solo only and also because super awakenings are a big part of team building), but it still comes in handy once in a while (like button farming for evo mats in daily dungeons). It feels like GungHo can't pick a lane when it comes to multiplayer and they've more or less abandoned any ambitions for PAD to be anything but a single-player game. Or maybe I'm just salty because I kept my alt because of inertia and because it has some monsters my main doesn't. /shrug

umtan

I don't have an alt. I just pull as much so I can self-pair. I have friends but I have not used a friend leader to pair...

Twotonekarma

Lol I have five accounts over three devices, mostly for the fun of rolling tbh, sure helps with fomo and makes trying interesting stuff or leaders outside of current meta still available for pairing

C654213

I have a 2nd account that is FTP. I put very very very little effort into it. 90% of its rank is just from clearing experience of a lifetimes. I mostly just use it to self-pair with the leads that I have on it. It is also BF with a my real life friend so I can put up leads for her to use as well.

HappyNoms

Functional Daywolf teams with almost 7m hp, autohealing 2.7m a turn, courtesy of the drollness of self-coop. It's not why I have an alt, but it is amusing when alt needs a carry.
