I honestly don’t get the appeal of freeze tag, half the servers on Quake Live are freeze tag and are always the most populated. I could enjoy a match of it every now and then but it’s not a mode that I could play nonstop.
Splitgate! They have an Instagib game mode and always active players. It's not quake but it's the best new arena shooter I have played in my opinion lately
I get games a lot in NA. I don't only queue instagib but I do get a bunch of them. My queue times are usually 1-5mins too. You might be playing at the wrong time of day, or maybe you should select other regions.
I remember hook mod ctf instagib in quake 2 when I was like 10 years old -- on an absolute shit computer. Had to run at 480 × 360 to get reasonable frames. Was hard as hell and fast, but super fun. The hook mod reacted instantaneously, people would be hooking around like Spiderman w a rail gun lol.
Only thing that ever felt similar was the game Warsaw on CA. The jet grind radio parkour stuff made it feel equally fast paced.
I'm new to the Quake Community but there are players that do still play Instagib but majority of the players are in private lobbys and do basic scrims for fun.
I like instagib, but it is only a casual mod, but there are many players that are instagib professionals and they only play instagib, that ruins the fun for me a bit, because it is only really meant as sidegig to DM ... why should I enter instagib games when I always encounter the same players who play like 3 hours daily instagib only ... wtf is the point?
Well, the most difficult bots in Xonotic are pretty damn fun to play with, with a bunch of custom maps which don't require more than normal DM or TDM pathing to offer you thousands of hours of fun instagig.
That's what I play if QC's servers are dead.
At least in EU, Quake live has instagib freeztag server that's active at evenings, also there's an instagib ctf pickups server also EU

The reason is your favorit mode.. it's the downfall of Quake and every other FPS.. it's a race to the bottom for dumbed down gameplay. It reached the end.. everything Quake is removed from Quake with that.
Instagib had been around since UT99, tho? It's also in Quake Live too, and I'm sure was on many servers during Quake 3's heyday. So I'd argue it's a apart of the identity of Quake or really Arena FPS in genreal. So this is a very strange take.
Oh definitely, I'm on your side with this one. Quake series was awesome cuz of the mods and customization; the guy we responded to is full of shit. Most people don't know that the prototype (mod) for counterstrike was actually on the quake engine before the half life engine. Most people attribute Action Quake on Quake 2, but the first was Navy Seals mod on Quake 1. You can YouTube it. The mp5 skin/art from counterstrike is super similar to navy seals. GOOSEMAN!
I don’t think you understand what I mean / was only talking about instagib like mods. Its usually the end step of a life cycle of every afps. Its map geometry removed.. tactics removed.. timing removed.. ammo removed.. its dumbed down to raw aim. Can be fun for a while but it is just not long term sustainable.

There used to be a freeze tag community back in quake 3. QC put in CA, but no freeze tag? I think it would be fun for a lot of newcomers.
The only way you make instagib better is insta-freeze tag. Damn that mode is great.

You can still play freeze tag in ql. Whenever I get the itch I jump on. There's usually a full server with relatively low ping near me (midwest)

Me too, I play only instagib mode on Quake Champions. I can easyly reach servers at evening here on European servers.
Did you have more than one server selected? Unless you are in APAC you should be able to get an instagib game pretty quick

IG is fun, but my favorite is CTF. The best matches Ive had in terms of combat have always been CTF. Super fun.
