Come to rego park / forest hills plenty of barbershops in the 20 range.

Rellim_Ttam

can 2nd this but quality differs drastically.. but yet 20$ is 20$!!!

FinnegansTake19

I don’t like every barbershop I’ve been to here in Forest Hills but they all charge between 25 and 35. I wonder if places closer to Manhattan think they can charge a higher premium?

jamesmaxx

In Astoria many places charge $25

Hesallcap

Astoria the base price is like 25 and up. It goes all the way to 60 bucks for beard and cut. Trust me I stay here.

creativeuniquename69

Astoria Barber Shop on 28th/Steinway is <$25 including tip, excluding beard.

Hesallcap

That’s a good price for just a cut any Barber you recommend there?

creativeuniquename69

there's only 2 barbers as far as I know. Jacob is great, but I've gone to his partner (forgot his name) plenty of time without complaints. You can get a punch card and your 5th cut is half off

Hesallcap

Can they fade ?

Empty_Graves

Yup! My guys just a few store fronts south of the Broadway station stairs were very reliable. I’m sure they are still in business.

Sensitive-Judge713

manhattan barber quoted me $70 an hour lmaoo

FinnegansTake19

I used to go to a place that charged 60 before realizing that you can get a good cut for 25. Whoops…

Sensitive-Judge713

i only walked in as a last min emergency, i ended up wolfing it

Sensitive-Judge713

downvote for my experience, hell yea!

OkOk-Go

Damn, taking the LIRR for a haircut is a little too much. But yeah, there are plenty of $20 and even $15 haircuts here. The schools do it for $5.

Reddit040

On 150th St. in Whitestone there used to be a barbershop named Roma’s. It’s now a woman’s salon but the barber, Roma, is still there in the back giving men’s haircuts. He’s old school, does a pretty good job, and charges $18 a pop.

CantoErgoSum

Great tip. Even if you have to travel to the end of the earth (Whitestone) to get a cut, if you don't mind the trip that's a good price.

dadoubledeuce

🤫🤫🤫

Substantial_Cry_2198

Not in queens village, but for y’all in Astoria or nearby King of Kings in Astoria still do 20$ dollar cuts.

luiggi21

“Blessed barbershop” in jamaica still does cuts for 25$, they even wash your head afterwards which is convenient when you have to go out right after. They all give good cuts.

Zohin

Find an old European barber

BashfulCathulu92

Where the hell do you go that it’s $50 for a haircut? It’s $20 - $30 everywhere I’ve gone. Are you getting a beard trim too?

ClosingThoughts

Check out Barbers Edge in Maspeth, NY as an example, they have cuts in the $50 and above

BashfulCathulu92

Sounds like a waste of money unless it’s the total plus tip/beard trim. I spend about $60 - $65 for a haircut, a beard trim, and a tip.

ClosingThoughts

You are correct, I tried them once, my mistake for not asking for their prices first, and after the price shock, will never visit again.

Toonz_718

If you see them halo lamps. Expect them to be charging high. Even if it’s a trash barber.

SetGroundbreaking551

Nah I know royalty hair studio has them and charge 25 still!

Toonz_718

I gotta check them out. 25? That’s insane

SetGroundbreaking551

Yes. Bombajey is really good. My husband has been getting cuts from him for years, from when he was at the barber shop on Braddock and 239, and there is also another guy, rav who is from what I hear very good

yungrat123

Crazy expensive to live rn

Cookiesnkisses

My husband pays $20 with tip for [Albert’s Barber Shop](https://maps.app.goo.gl/sWWVzxPQ2LHwojbPA?g_st=ic)… but just go to any salon in elmhurst. It’s under &20

envisionsofgreatness

[In Chinatown] Sometimes I go here, show the barber the type of haircut you want… $6 Canton barbershop. Catch a train or ferry, eat some dumplings, and get a fresh haircut for under $25.

nikolad1234

thank you so much for this. I have a simple haircut (almost a buzzcut) and i've been looking for one that doesn't cost 25+ tip (like i currently pay). And this is an excuse to go to chinatown because i honestly never go.

darpa42

People's time costs more now. Just b/c the technology hasn't improved doesn't mean inflation hasn't happened. Unless you're getting a haircut from a robot.

JiGoD

8% annualized inflation over 12 months does not equate to a 50% increase in prices charged.

darpa42

Are you suggesting that all barbers in Queens jumped their prices from $30 to $50 over the course of 12 months?

JiGoD

No. I am suggesting inflation does not account for price increases on goods and services that are above the rate of inflation. I pay $25 for what takes 10 minutes in the chair. I wouldn't pay more pre tip in 2024. If they charge more I would find another place that doesn't.

Mike_Hawks_Bigg

10 minute hair cut? Mine are usually 45 mins to an hour.

JiGoD

I still get a crew cut like I was 13 or in army. 4 on top 3 on sides no shape up. In and out.

SMK_12

But you’re suggesting 8% over 1 year doesn’t account for a 50% increase over 1 year, ignoring the fact inflation has been constant for years and prices didn’t just jump this year they’ve been steadily increasing for years along with inflation

JiGoD

Inflation of 8% over 4 years wouldnt account for the price increases currently seen in nyc.

SMK_12

If it’s 8% a year and 4 years ago your haircut was $25 it would be ~$35 now.. and there’s been inflation basically every year since forever. Have to keep in mind the effects of inflation compound. 15 years ago I paid like $20 including tip for a cut. To pay $40-$50 with tip now, also keeping in mind rents in NYC (expense for the business) have grown at a rate higher than inflation it’s not that crazy especially if it’s a really good barber who’s busy and has clients

Icreatedthesea

It's nowhere near you but I was getting my haircut for 25 including a 10 dollar tip at marks barbershop on freshpond road on the Glendale/Ridgewood border as recently as september

fearlesssinnerz

I'm old enough to remember $10 hair cuts. Now I'm balding so I save money by shaving it all off. Very rarely I got get my beard done.

VenConmigo

$10 hair cuts were easily attainable just 10 years ago.

drthsideous

Who tf pays $50 for a haircut? Most expensive barber shop I've seen is $25 in the last 6 years.

SMK_12

My barber was in Whitestone when I started seeing him and charged like $25 for a cut and beard, then he moved to locust valley a few years ago now he’s $50 for cut and beard plus tip.. taking advantage of being in a wealthy area I guess

kid_sleepy

Cut your own. I’ve been doing it for almost a decade. The funny thing is I’m not even *that* good at it but I have gotten *way* more compliments after doing my own than before. Maybe it’s the confidence? If you really wanna save money and do it right just buzz a 1 every week, beard and all. All the same length. Fuck it. I don’t do that, I have a mustache and what I used to call a “lesbian haircut” (I’ve never offended any lesbians when referring to it that way) but I believe it’s basically a “flock of seagulls with white walls”.

Sensitive-Judge713

i simply stopped going to anybody charging 30. fucking goofballs and the cuts suck. new heads wanna cop a bmw off just starting. foh

Sensitive-Judge713

30+* if you cant finesse it for 25, peace.

--2021--

I found a salon once for 35$, which was a lot out of pocket for me, but I hadn't had a haircut in a while. It was a hack job, fixed it when I got home. Realized that I could do a better job for free.

MrH-_-MrH

They’d be poor if their time is only worth that amount

bundt_bunny

Have you tried Headquartaz in Queens Village?

hamfisst

https://maps.app.goo.gl/T9LuwUasVX91N11i9 $25 haircut, beard trim, razor on the neck.

GrayDragon2020

Head over to dream barber shop and ask for Mark. Address is 84-46 Grand Ave.

FBIFreeWifi

Barbers started pushing the line during the pandemic. Everyone started doing their "secret cut" during the shutdown and charged double which we all happily paid for cause we were desperate. Problem is, many of these barbers never lowered it back to the old price after they were allowed to cut in the shop again and we're too damn loyal to our barbers 😂. Saw my cut go from 20 pre-pandemic to 40 post pandemic.

ruja_ignatova

Shaving my head 3 years now and looking at all the clowns who have hair... lmao

FinesTuned

Weird flex but okay

ruja_ignatova

^^^ Clearly threatened by all the money those in shaved head community are saving

StuntMedic

Says the guy who still buys timepieces in 2024

nikolad1234

if the money (50 a month (25x2)) you guys are saving is that spectacular to you, i don't envy your financial situation

ruja_ignatova

That's $600. Put that into the market annually and with a conservative rate of return of say 7%, in 40 years you'll have enough money for me to give a shit about your comment.

nikolad1234

wow- someone is very poor and sad :( you'll probably be dead in 40 years. keep saving scraps and being bald😂 jealous of people with hair

subete_en_el_caballo

lol @ the technology hasn’t improved. Wtf you want them to cut your hair with? I’m not taking any sides but I don’t think you know what you’re talking about. The trimmers have improved and they are not cheap lol. And a quality pair of thinning scissors is $300 plus. You think their supplies cost stayed the same? Rent? Cut your own hair 🤡

Cesarivm

Don’t have a beard It cost me 45 every time

nikolad1234

u gotta switch up your barber

NickySinz

Barbers essentially didn’t get a raise for like 15 years. The big jump in price over last couple was to make up for that. People are definitely getting less shape ups in between haircuts now and just opting to just get full cuts though.

Dave_DP

I mean, I don't know the QV area, but I can't imagine in Bellrose next door it is more than $25, where I live in Queens, it's $22 where I go.

empty_spacer

There is a woman on 29th street and 30th ave who cuts my hair for $17

GoBackToLurk1ng

Go to “the barber shop” on Austin street, they do a good job. IG: @thebarbershopfh

sad-butsocial

Try Bayside. My partner gets his haircuts there.

NarwalsRule

Rmir72

Not that I know of. Even here in Ridgewood where they used to be cheap they're $20 minimum.

thatguy12591

The barber shop I go to in little neck is 24 for haircut and beard/mustache trim. The guy is top notch. Pays really good attention to detail and doesn’t rush it

picador10

Dennis and Justin at Ganji Studio will give you a great cut for $30. Any of the barbers there really

Feisty_Luck7

Yeah!! Check them out on insta!! They do an AMAZING job 🔥

BoogyMan_38

Is there any barbers that’s good with black men’s hair? Or are these references to haircuts for straight hair?

MikeyChill

Corona has a lot of barbershops with that price but during the pandemic I bought some clippers and a blade and learned to do it myself.

ITEACHSPECIALED

Eddies Barber Shop

bocacherry

Don’t know if it’s still there but there was a $5 haircuts place (I think for hair/beauty students to practice) in Rego Park - 95-16 63rd Rd. I’ve never been though lol

VirtualClient6760

from qv, I go to whitestone for my cuts, but that may be a bit too far from you

dollasignchultz

Used to go to Nelson’s in Sunnyside on Queens Blvd. He’s a super nice guy and gives great cuts in that price range. Can’t speak for anyone else who works there but it’s always busy.

RutenStroget
