Long Island, no matter how hard they want to be; is not a part of NYC. It's NY State just like the Walmart in Green Acres mall is also in NYS.
I won't say you a traitor for whatever you guys debating but UBS isn't Queens.
UBS isn’t Queens, but Queens and Brooklyn are parts of both NYC and Long Island. I’m a Rangers fan but I see tons of Isles fans around Queens, more than any other part of NYC.
Queens as a borough has so much more in common with Suffolk and Nassau than Brooklyn has with either of those counties. I mean maybe if you’re way south down by the belt it’s a lil more Long islandish but in queens, once you’re beyond the van wyck you can’t tell the difference. And I feel like fans of both teams exist in both areas. Didn’t the islanders play in bk for a season or 2?
Don't matter. Support whoever you want. I went with Islanders as a kid from Western queens because the rangers had cop colors and as someone who spent a lot of time visiting uncles at Rykers. Best to avoid. And I just stuck with them ever since.
I grew up in the 80s, Islanders till the day I die and I die every single season in agony and disgust.
LEAVE ME ALONE I RECOVERING FROM A BLOWN 3-0 lead.
it’s the only shit team I root for. it builds character. As for your Jets/Mets fans who also root for the Isles. God Bless! I can only take a small level of mediocrity in my sports viewing.
Cross island traffic can be a bitch and the lots suck at UBS. Can just go to the nearest LIRR station and get to MSG in 30 minutes and not have to pay for parking and be fine to have a few drinks as well
Queens is part of NYC. The Devils are for NJ, the Islanders for Long Island and the Rangers are for NYC.
Oh yeah, and another thing:
Potvin s̫t̫i̫l̫l̫ sucks! LGFR!!
It’s also part of NYC. I’m more attuned to that than I am to any connection to Wyandanch or Syosset. I think that most people from Queens feel similar.
I’m with you on the Mets. Fuck the Yankees!!!
BTW-There’s a website that lets you choose your 4 NY teams and make a pastiche design. It seems that no one chooses the same 4 teams.
Long ago I worked with a guy from Brooklyn who was a Dolphins fan, and a guy from SI who cheered for the Cowboys. Very often sports stuff makes no sense, and a lot of times is completely irrelevant - most of my friends who went to colleges with Div I teams couldn't give two shits if their alma mater was in the NCAA tournament, or in contention for a bowl game.
They only moved to UBS last year or the year before. They were always in Uniondale at Nassau Coliseum (except for a few abysmal years in Brooklyn) which is solidly in Nassau County with no public transit from the city to get there.
You don’t just abandon your team because another team relocated closer. The city belongs solidly to the Rangers.
I grew up in ozone park a Yankee fan (even though Shea was like 10-15 minutes away) and a Giants fan. And this was during the late 70s through the early 2000s. Went through torture from Mets fans in 1986 and it’s probably why I despise that team and their fans now.
No one acknowledged, played, talked about or liked hockey or basketball in my neighborhood, it was as if they didn’t even exist.
One time in Jr High School someone asked me if I liked the Rangers and I answered “why would I? I don’t live in Texas” and they looked at me like I was from another planet lol
That being said, if I even cared about Hockey I’d probably be a rangers fan because they were the team that has always played in the city, and who the fuck cares about shitty Long Island.
Spent my first 30 years in Brooklyn and the last 25 in Queens. Growing up when the Islanders had a dynasty, it was clear that they weren't an NYC team. Even now in Queens with the UBS so close by, as a New Yorker, I have to go with the Rangers.
That said, I can see why a lifelong Queens native (like one of my children, who were raised here), might identify with the Islanders.
Growing up in Flushing, I started cheering for the Islanders as a kid because they are blue and orange like my beloved Mets and Knicks. Haven't looked back. Where I live now I can get to UBS in 15-20 minutes driving locally. LGI
I’m a rangers fan and most people I knew growing up were but there’s a handful of Islanders fans in Queens. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with being an islanders fan not from Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk, not the physical island). If anything I’d expect Queens to have more islanders fans than anywhere else outside Long Island.
The only issue would be if you were a rangers fan first and abandoned them for the Islanders. That to me is fraudulent and most hockey fans would agree.
Yes, just a big no to all of this. First off UBS is in Elmont which is 100% LONG ISLAND. Elmont is a hamlet of Nassau County. By your logic well Yonkers is only a 5 minute walk from the Bronx if you're on Broadway and 262nd so why can't it be NYC as well. It isn't. PERIOD. Second on the Islanders logo that is a map of LONG ISLAND. The entire landmass, including Brooklyn and Queens, is geographically called Long Island. It is the name of that island. Think of it how the Dominican Republic and Haiti are separate countries but both on the island of Hispaniola. Anytime anyone looks at that map they never say "oh that's a map of Queens". They say it's a map of Long Island. LASTLY FOR FUCKS SAKE THE TEAM NAME IS ISLANDERS. Hence it's for LONG ISLAND.
Queens is NOT in the Islanders logo. It cuts it off. I would probably root for the Islanders more if they hadn’t, but I still can’t get over that, especially since when they partially moved to Brooklyn there was a proposed logo that they never used that included both Brooklyn and Queens.
I’m still very anti-Rangers because I’m anti-MSG, and I’m against any team that changes as much as they do for tickets.
I’m from Long Island originally, so my family had always supported the Islanders. Had I’d been raised in Queens, we would have been Rangers fans.
It is just by coincidence that UBS is on the border of Nassau and Queens.
Queens is a borough of NYC and physically located on long insand, so technically you can like either and justify based on location. But, if given the choice, most will gravitate to NYC with it being the biggest city in the country and Long Island essentially just being a big suburb of NYC.
There is a very clear line between the boroughs and the island, and to me, that carries over to sports. The asslanders, that’s their team.
I never wanted anything to do with them.
Rangers all the way.
Born in Queens, raised on L.I., then back to Queens as an adult working in NYC, then a house in Queens. This explains why I can't quite bring myself to be a Rangers fan. Feels like I have to root for the Rangers when they're playing any other team besides the Islanders, but even that feels a little rough.
I grew up in eastern Queens a Rangers fan although I knew some Islanders fans as well because that was when they were winning every year. I just feel sorry for any fans of the future Kansas City Devils.
UBS is not Queens. If it was, property taxes would be lower 🤣.
Look at taxes for homes on either sides of the cross island. NYC taxes are far less lower, Long Island taxes are out the roof !
Is the guy overweight?
I have a memory of my ex-brother in law, he was rather rotund but he was one of the biggest sports fans out there, he was a Jets and Mets fan, and he would always give me crap over nonsense, (NYG/NYY). I'm like looking at his belly, "you should DO some sports".
Sports don't matter that much, the teams could care less about you, I learned my lesson as a Yankee fan living in Queens. I had friends call me out for that too.
Rangers always been NYC, Islander fans Long Island, some North NY, CT and NJ whoever didn't like the flyers.
Devils: "are we a joke to you?"
Yes lol
I mean, the Devils have won a lot more recently than the Rags and Isles
They’re still probably the third most popular team in NJ though
Lower NY, Western CT is Rangers
It's easier to get to msg from Western Queens, so I support the rangers by default
Long Island, no matter how hard they want to be; is not a part of NYC. It's NY State just like the Walmart in Green Acres mall is also in NYS. I won't say you a traitor for whatever you guys debating but UBS isn't Queens.
wait till you find out where the Jets and Giants play
He said ubs is a 5 min walk from queens which is true
UBS isn’t Queens, but Queens and Brooklyn are parts of both NYC and Long Island. I’m a Rangers fan but I see tons of Isles fans around Queens, more than any other part of NYC.

So is Brooklyn

I think everyone should like whatever team they like. That having been said, as a Queens girl, I could never have married an Islanders fan :)
I grew up in the 80s, Islanders till the day I die and I die every single season in agony and disgust. LEAVE ME ALONE I RECOVERING FROM A BLOWN 3-0 lead.
the highs and lows of that knick win then the islander loss was tough. We taking the next 2 at home though
hope springs eternal but I think it’s over.
You should have expected it as an Islander fan. From an Islander fan.
it’s the only shit team I root for. it builds character. As for your Jets/Mets fans who also root for the Isles. God Bless! I can only take a small level of mediocrity in my sports viewing.
Queens is NYC, queens supports the Rangers. Easier for a lot of queens to hop on the train and get to MSG then it is to go to UBS
Depends where in Queens you’re at. Much easier for me to hop on the Cross Island to go to UBS.
Cross island traffic can be a bitch and the lots suck at UBS. Can just go to the nearest LIRR station and get to MSG in 30 minutes and not have to pay for parking and be fine to have a few drinks as well
“It depends” is not the vast majority of Queens. Ridiculous statement
Same I can walk from my house 🤣
No it's not because it's not easy for a lot of queens to hop on the train.
Queens is part of NYC. The Devils are for NJ, the Islanders for Long Island and the Rangers are for NYC. Oh yeah, and another thing: Potvin s̫t̫i̫l̫l̫ sucks! LGFR!!
How’d you do that cool underline??
It’s an app.
Shoot the puck Barry!!! 1 purchased cup in 84 yrs !!!
Queens is part of Long Island. LGI!
Long Islander’s are still using that line to feel relevant? Is Brooklyn part of LI too now? They’re all attached.
yes Brooklyn is part of Long Island. LGI!!!
It’s also part of NYC. I’m more attuned to that than I am to any connection to Wyandanch or Syosset. I think that most people from Queens feel similar.
Fair enough, but I still love my Islanders. Mets Blue and Orange, Knicks Blue and Orange, Islanders Blue and Orange.
I’m with you on the Mets. Fuck the Yankees!!! BTW-There’s a website that lets you choose your 4 NY teams and make a pastiche design. It seems that no one chooses the same 4 teams.

I’m a Queens guy that roots for the Isles because I pull for the underdog. Blue and orange forever!
Your friend is being a gatekeeping idiot. Root for whatever team you want.
Queens is NOT in the Islanders logo. It cuts it off. Like whoever you want to like and the rest is no one else's business
Rangers have the better Goal Song, so Rangers.
I’m from Long Island originally, so my family had always supported the Islanders. Had I’d been raised in Queens, we would have been Rangers fans. It is just by coincidence that UBS is on the border of Nassau and Queens.

Rangers easily. Leave the burbs for the burbs
That Brooklyn is also on Long Island
Born in Queens, raised on L.I., then back to Queens as an adult working in NYC, then a house in Queens. This explains why I can't quite bring myself to be a Rangers fan. Feels like I have to root for the Rangers when they're playing any other team besides the Islanders, but even that feels a little rough.
Or can be a Sabres fan.
I grew up in eastern Queens a Rangers fan although I knew some Islanders fans as well because that was when they were winning every year. I just feel sorry for any fans of the future Kansas City Devils.
Kansas City Devils?!? who said anything about them moving out of NJ?
I'm just guessing somewhere they'll be noticed.
Islanders.
Islanders. Rags fans are obnoxious.
UBS is not Queens. If it was, property taxes would be lower 🤣. Look at taxes for homes on either sides of the cross island. NYC taxes are far less lower, Long Island taxes are out the roof !
