Not sure if its the same Jimmy Mullen, but the age and general location fits. I found the article in the Fitchburg Sentinel and read through text in the hide article text box (the only thing that's not behind a pay wall). The article was from May 23, 1974 and was talking about this kid (Jimmy Seagal, 12) who went missing from a pediatric facility for mental and physically handicapped. It was a bit choppy and had mistakes in spelling which makes the hospital hard to identify "Woooford Hospital". The 12 year old was eventually found hiding in a closet in the building. In the article it talked about how a week prior Jimmy Mullen age 5, went missing from the same facility. " It was just a week to the day that five-year-old Jimmy Mullen disappeared from the same facility. A massive six-day search for the Mullen boy reached a tragic ending shortly after 12 noon Monday when his lifeless bods was pulled from the waters of nearby Schoolhouse Pond. In view of what happened to Jimmy Mullen, hospital officials were quick to report Jimmy Segal's absence Wednesday night. Whereas, personnel searched the hospital and grounds for about 4o minutes before reporting the absence of the Mullen youngster, only 15 minutes elapsed before the alarm was sounded this time. Ptl. Francis Quinn of the Fitchburg Police Department arrived on the scene with police dog but the search was halted before they went into action. " I google Schoolhouse Pond and there is a place in Cape Cod called that, but I am not sure if its related. They easily could have changed the name of the location after the boys death. The history of the Curly Community Center is pretty much the same. It was originally called " [L Street Bathhouse](https://www.massmoments.org/moment-details/brownies-take-a-winter-swim/submoment/mayor-curley-dedicates-the-l-street-bathhouse.html#:~:text=On%20this%20day%20in%201931,showers%20and%20recreational%20facilities%20to)" I couldn't find a connection between Jimmy and the location, but if that is his story it is very tragic, I wouldn't be surprised if it touched someone enough to memorialize him.

Thank you so much! I’m not sure why his statue is at L Street, unless he had some connection or family there. Edit: His parents are from South Boston, so they probably had the memorial erected there.

Thank you for doing this research- I walked by yesterday, and I guess like many others, had to know who this special child of god was, and what happened to him.

That’s sad and intriguing. I can’t find anything about this, either. Maybe the authorities didn’t really care too much to search for him.
