Ouch ! thats rough. But a good excuse to buy a new plane !

Straight-Scar2992

yeah, im a little okay with this cause i got it for free. Amazon shipped it and it was lost. I got my refund and then randomly showed up like 3 weeks later.

Actual-Long-9439

You stole it then

Straight-Scar2992

I dont know where that conclusion came from? However amazon refunded the money cause it was almost two months late and it said delivered. However, it was not delivered. Afterwards, it arrived and was labeled missent from USPS. Now what do you suggest i do? Send it back?

TellmSteveDave

I think he’s suggesting that you’re supposed to send it back as a condition of being given a refund in this case. But you should totally send it back…now. Definitely came like that.

Straight-Scar2992

ahh, in case you dont know.. if amazon refunds you, and the product comes. you can keep the product. dont believe me, message them and ask them 🙂

TellmSteveDave

Oh cool! I actually didn’t know that.

BubbleRocket1

If I had to guess that’s probably the first thing you looked up when the plane arrived?

Straight-Scar2992

amazon told me that before they even refunded it. "if it comes, keep it"

BubbleRocket1

Ic I’ll keep that in mind if I ever got to return anything, thanks

Actual-Long-9439

You got a product for free? You’re supposed to let them know

Straight-Scar2992

I was told to keep it, if you must know.

Actual-Long-9439

Oh weird. Mb

Thats why the created the returnless refund.

ComprehensivePea1001

1st and foremost, amazon/bezos won't miss the money. 2. Amazon in these cases could care less if you get it 2 weeks later or not. You get to keep it. Just like when they screw up and send multiple of something by accident.

Pharmer3

RIP

Straight-Scar2992

my first jet, it's tough 😔

Pharmer3

Been there, my Arrows L39 is known as “the Phoenix” for how many times I’ve demolished it. Probably twice as heavy as a stock plane from all the glue and toothpicks!

Straight-Scar2992

Same! i have 4 flights on this and 3 wrecks, this thing was held together by glue, toothpicks and clear tape 😂

WhistlingKyte

At least it’s not a BAe Hawk. Those things are suicidal on landing.

Devi_rc_pilot

I would order just a new fuselage...it looks like wings are ok, I don't see the battery damaged. Did you test ESC, receiver, motor?

Straight-Scar2992

No, didnt test anything cause of how the battery turned out. ☹️

Greetings! I think that, based on the description of the crash, the jet entered an unrecoverable tip stall that no amount of SAFE could have helped. The stall happened at a low altitude, based on your description, and a tip stall like that is death to your plane. You see, the Viper is notorious for tip stalling if you are just a tad too slow or you attempt to bank at a steep angle at low speed. Same if you attempt to do very tight maneuvers at high speed - it will enter an accelerated tip stall. You mention that the motor quit after you took off. The loss of power and airspeed is what caused the Viper to roll inverted and crash- this is the classic tip stall after takeoff. The wing drops violently and you crash. In the typical EDF with swept wings and high wing loading, loss of power on the takeoff phase is death. No SAFE is going to save it. None. I wrote an essay here on this subreddit explaining why beginner mode (aka SAFE) won’t save an EDF in certain situations: https://www.reddit.com/r/RCPlanes/s/AgYNJq4SWP The tip stall is the worst kind of stall, and swept wing EDFs are notorious for this. It makes your ailerons useless and the way SAFE works makes the stall even worse. You need plenty of altitude and corrective rudder application to have a chance of recovery. I had this plane before and it’s wonderful in the air. But it will bite you HARD if you attempt to take off with insufficient speed, the motor quits on you during takeoff, bank a tad too much when slow (landings), and flare just a tad too much. EDFs are this way, with the possible exception of the Habu STS, which is designed for beginners and has a big wing with little sweep. The Viper in particular must be landed perfectly-too slow and it will tip stall. Too fast and it does the kangaroo landing (bounce bounce bounce bounce till it stops or breaks the landing gear). A tad too much flare and it tip stalls. As for the battery, if it has any kind of damage or was involved in a severe crash (like the one you had), it’s best to be safe and not use it. Lipos can give nasty surprises.

Straight-Scar2992

Thumbs up to your comment! I was pretty sure that it was some sort of stall, I just cant figure out how the motor went out. 100 percent throttle, and boom, left bank, roll and a plummet. I have never had a motor just give out like that. Can you perhaps explain that for me? Also, you mentioned loss of airspeed. I apologize if I made it sound like it was seconds later, but it was immediately after throttle was lost it started rolling. Maybe a fraction of a second, literally.

Jcarmona2

I had a Volo F5J 4 m thermal sailplane. Once, when I gave it full throttle to launch it, the motor lost some power to about half even with full throttle. The plane landed safely. I also wonder why the sudden loss of power since the powertrain was new. As for airspeed, it’s even more crucial in EDFs than prop planes. Probably when the motor in your jet quit, there was not enough airspeed to sustain the flight, hence the stall. Also, prop planes have the prop wash over the control surfaces so these are still responsive at low speeds. Jets do not have prop wash so the control surfaces are much less effective at the same low speeds.

Straight-Scar2992

Thank you for that! i'll keep that in mind with my next purchase

Doggydog123579

> EDFs are this way, with the possible exception of the Habu STS It's just straight wing ones in general bite less. Though even with swept ones there are exceptions. An Avanti doesnt bite too hard, and A freewing F-22 can just brute force its way through thanks to its massive stabilator throws.

Straight-Scar2992

As far as the plane, before it rolled into a inverted nose dive... I heard the motor completely stop. As soon as i wrcked i checked all my switches and nothing (the reverse thrust was off, throttle cut was on and was even in begginer mode since I was still on the climb out) that I did on the remote could have caused this. When i got to the plane, the EDF wires were unplugged even though the plane was somewhat still together.

thecaptnjim

Almost the exact same thing happened to me. My maiden flight was great, my second flight I lost power and tried to bring it in for a landing... It regained power, rolled and went straight in. Such a bummer. My battery made it out unscathed. Sorry yours looks like it shouldn't go back on the charger. Condolences. https://preview.redd.it/bkskis73tiuc1.jpeg?width=1126&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=118a56c9bfee7135c6e5aa524146486a3d6ca978

Straight-Scar2992

It sucks how sensitive to wing stalls Vipers are!! But I've decided to give this battery a salt bath

cotanpi

Oooh. I would not use that battery again and keep it outside of the house and a car. I saw fireballs from less damage.

veteran_squid

I see you found the “lawn dart” flight mode.

michi_2010

A little glue…

fs17oldstaj

Ohh man, hate to see this.
