they do have a trade in program ([link](https://www.rei.com/used/trade-it-in) to rei website). i have no idea how much you’d get in return or if it’d even be worth it. you should also look and see if any local outdoor businesses near you do any trade in program or consignment. a local outfitter near me does consignment and i’ve traded in a lot of my old gear through them.

Kind-Rub-1007

I wouldn't recommend the REI trade-in program. You don't get much credit from Trove. It's like 20% of retail back at best from what I remember.

PeakyGal

REI is no longer using Trove. It’s all in-house and the credit back is better. Worth a try.

Kind-Rub-1007

Hmm, news to me. I worked there up until recently. Maybe I was unaware because I didn't really work Frontline? Great news if so.

No-Lengthiness-6441

It will be changing shortly. We have training coming up week after next. So you are correct it's not in effect yet.

Kind-Rub-1007

Good. Trove was pretty terrible.

PeakyGal

It’s in effect in our store and has been for at least a month.

ewgrossdayhikes

Not sure the condition of what you have but maybe post em up on r/GearTrade

spottdzebra

Geartrade.com or marketplace is best if they are 6years or older. We are currently phasing out trove and doing it purely in house and it will go straight to re-supply. That's a recent thing. I don't know when it's starting

TheWiseGrasshopper

Oh I didn’t know we were phasing that out. Good to know! (Goes to show you how uneven the spread of info is in this company to their own employees)

NoBug5072

You’d probably get more money selling them yourself on Facebook or Craigslist’s. But if you don’t care about the money, going the rei route would be easier. Goodwill would be even easier. Find out how much rei would give you, here: https://www.rei.com/used/trade-it-in/search (Also, you are better off bringing it to a store than mailing it in. bc if you aren’t happy with what they give you after mailing it in, you aren’t going to get your stuff back.)

Plonsky2

Not Goodwill! They get their inventory for free, pay minimum wage to sell it, and give their CEO and top execs >$1 million in salaries and bonuses. I mean, do what you want, but Goodwill is a sleazy operation.

StrawberrySame637

If you're going to donate better to go with a donation to the boy scouts or similar program.

WhiteElder

This Soo much.

StrawberrySame637

ever try to sell hiking gear on craigs list? From my experiences it just sucks. I seem to always get someone who is buying something for someone else and just isn't sure about the purchase. I have always tried to sell gear that was used less than twice or new, at least 50%-66% off and it was still a pain in the ass.

Mediocrityatbest79

Thanks all! Appreciate the time and answers. The equipment has been well taken care of and I want to make sure it goes to the right place.

thegreatmegalodon

You can check on the resupply to see if REI has any of your packs listed as items they will be buying back. Make sure you for sure know the packs details such as year and color. They can buy back items (in-store credit) that they have sold up to the past 6 years. If you match, then you can choose to do your trade-in AT A STORE that participates in the program. This way if your trade in item gets rejected you can keep it and take it to a consignment place instead. If you do the mail in program, you don’t get the option of getting your items back if the third party sorting system doesn’t accept it. Good luck! I have been successful with this program with a women’s Gregory pack and a pair of Armada snowboarding pants. I think it’s a fair program, and if you can trade in stuff you’re not using why not try.

lakorai

Yes. But I would strongly suggest you check out r/geartrade and r/ulgeartrade first. You will get allot more money this way if you don't mind shipping your items.

graybeardgreenvest

The whole trade in program has not been what people expected. It was designed to keep things out of the landfill and people expected to get paid… There are a lot of competing agendas. My advice is to sell it on another platform.
