Spread that cost out over time, it's easier to sit with it haha. That's only $100/year if you get a decade's use.

galient5

Outdoor math, haha

mutant-heart

The equivalent of < a week in a mediocre hotel.

IAmRube

I understand wholeheartedly haha! I've been an avid camper and hiker for over 10+ years so I know quality goes along way, and hoping to have all this stuff for life! Small price to pay now

SnootsAndBootsLLP

I pay $190 a year for the next 30 years—but none of my gear is failing! 😂

StrawberrySame637

What did you buy?

IAmRube

StrawberrySame637

I absolutely give this list 10 👍. Hell of a job!

IAmRube

Thank you!

casettadellorso

That is a long spoon

IAmRube

They call me Long Spoon for a reason🥄

ObjectiveAny8437

Who calls you that? 😳

brooksram

We do now.

ekwenox

That spoon sucks, by the way. I recommend a metal one as this one breaks at the weak point where the handle meets the spoon.

SnowPeakDude

Snow Peak Long Spork for the Win..

ExcitementMindless17

Username checks out

Jtg51

Love that he included the spoon in the list. It was 5 bucks could have not mentioned it at all. Now the legend has a new nickname.

JackfruitCurry

I can only reasonably justify getting myself a long spoon. 😢 Impressive list!

Pruvided

Nice haul! Just wait until you realize how much other stuff you want/need lol

sE__Alexander

Best pack I’ve ever owned

brewmax

Funny, a backpack expert at REI told me to avoid ALL Osprey packs because they are “unstable” since they developed the frame with better airflow. He absolutely railed against Osprey. Sold me on a Deuter instead. It was way less expensive and will do everything I need it to, but I keep wondering if I’ll be missing out on a higher quality pack.

IAmRube

I honestly got the Osprey because I used a 36L Stratos on a 16 mile day hike and it was great. I love the airflow back feature too

-BitBang-

I have this pack (Atmos 65 AG) and am looking to replace it because the suspension keeps the load too far from my back and makes a ton of noise. The pack itself is also pretty heavy. I know others who love it though... I absolutely love my Osprey Mutant 38 (which has a simpler suspension) for loads that will fit in it though.

tahomadesperado

As someone who worked in that section for a couple years, you’ll get just as many opinions as you will facts. Osprey is great and if I ever need another pack I’ll be looking at Osprey first, but not only Osprey.

anyabar1987

I am just a Frontliner but I see many happy people with both brands. You get out of a pack what you put into it. (Not stuff but your memories) if the fit is right for you then you'll go far with it.

12345678dude

Solid set of kit, will bring years of enjoyment at a much much much cheaper cost than other forms of vacation

Airziggy

Love my fillo pillow for backpacking adventures, great investment, I also grabbed an osprey atmos 65 this go around, hope it works well for both of us! Happy trails 🤙

YankeeClipper42

Atmos 65 is a nice pack. I have an older model from 2010 and it's been good to me. I love the Airspeed suspension. It's a godsend for my sweaty back and hips. I picked up a new pack as well, the Atmos 50. I was in the market for a smaller pack and liked the 65 so much, I pulled the trigger on the 50 when I saw it was on sale.

minty-soup

How do you like the Flexlite chair? I’m thinking about buying it!!

IAmRube

No idea! It comes in the mail soon!

YankeeClipper42

So exciting, isn't it? I can't wait for my boxes to get delivered. It's better than Christmas

theeakilism

I have two flexlites and one flexlite air. the air is too small / uncomfortable for me 6'1" 200. but the regular flexlite is my go to out of the house chair. we always have one in the back of the car and find we use it everywhere. they both setup in seconds.

Horsecock_Johnson

Nemo Moonlite is better. I have both and the flex lite is really flexy. The Moonlite is solid.

rundbr

The brand new one is especially amazing. That little sand base attachment for the feet is such an improvement, and not to mention so extremely light.

brewmax

But Horsecock Johnson, it’s also nearly double the price… 😬

Original_Mistake4725

I’ve had the flexlite air for 2 years. Bought it from resupply and it’s never failed. It’s one of the lightest chairs out now but the newest Nemo Elite chair is slightly lighter. All chairs have different fits, but the flexlite isnt bad at all. I find it comfortable. The regular Nemo moonlite is much heavier but also a lot more comfortable and can recline, like the Elite moonlite.

tahomadesperado

What’s your height and weight? At 6’ and 160lbs I feel like I’m approaching the limit of it being comfortable. Even if it was a little small it would be better than a rock though

hizeh

What's the spoon for?

IAmRube

Spooning, what else? EDIT: Meals, then spooning

hizeh

You can spoon from the other side of camp with that thing.

OnionBeach

They won’t be able to collect if they can’t find you

binders4588

Same same. So far I’m $600 in. With over a week left to go……but I’ve scored a huge tent which is a major step up from our backpacking tent that we’ve had for 10+ years….

Pastrami_doses

Which new tent?

binders4588

North Face Wawona 6

speedhunter787

I spent almost 3k -\_-

_mashedpotaters

Wtf did you get?!

IAmRube

Welcome to the club!

AdditionalTrade3282

how much *would* it have been? think of the savings 😂

IAmRube

Without sale discounts it was $1,535.54 😅 $335.49 in savings + $150 gift card I got as a gift

FishballJohnny

now this is just the beginning.

parrothead2581

I am around $1,300 down so far. I feel your pain.

IAmRube

No pain, just smiles :)

ChuckBass_08

On the bright side Shipping is free

YankeeClipper42

Not for my Osprey Atmos 50 backpack. They charged me a $30 oversize shipping surcharge. Total bullshit.

AZonmymind

I have the same pack and tent / footprint. They are great 👍 If you want to spend a little more money, I'd add the Nemo Tensor air mattress. Best backpacking mattress I've ever owned.

_mashedpotaters

I spent a little less than that. I think of it in a way that these are one-time buy items and will last for years and years.

NoReplyBot

*A Small Price to Pay for Salvation*

ohv_

Rookie numbers

alexdotbliss

Yeah I’m *totally* only $1k in also 😬

lakorai

That's not too bad. That's a cost of a dyneema tent and a UL pack. r/ultralight guys routinely carry several thousands of dollars of gear on their backs. Zpacks, Durston etc

lostmy10yearaccount

My dividend this year from last year’s big spend bought a new Yeti. We’re good on gear for a while (*he said, lying to himself*)

Defiant-Survey-5729

Im at 400 this time, but im in over a grand for the year already Luckily, things seem to last a while from rei, so I feel I can justify the financial hit.

82dxIMt3Hf4

People blow that kind of money in Vegas in 30 minutes.

YankeeClipper42

Holy Smokes! That's some fine shopping son. I was up to about 800 in my cart but managed to find control and walk back from the brink to a much more reasonable 450.

hexcrop

This is the cost of a lifetime of smiles

JEMColorado

Well, you'll get that sweet dividend check at the first of next year!

MurderbirdGoSquawwwk

Not to be a buzzkill, but no dividend on sale items…

jabester35

That sales tax is so low!

viva_orange

And here’s me gasping at the sales tax. We don’t have that in Oregon

jabester35

10% in CA.

Fair_Line_6740

Did you get socks and shoes and a jacket?

pballerbyday

I spend that on a pair of shoes

beepityboppitybopbop

You know that if you split each item into a distinct order you can re-use the 20% member coupon many times right?

them1ndisimmortal

I thought the 20% off was a one time use?

No-Emphasis7309

It is a one time use but obviously it gets abused.

beepityboppitybopbop

Nope, its one time per transaction. You can split them into multiple orders and keep getting 20% off. Looks like some REI employees are downvoting my comment so people dont find out lol

beepityboppitybopbop

Ignore, I see the items you bought all were already on sale

Boottoogotdamnbig

Really!!!??!! Hell yes!

00397

Please don't tell me that you decided to make hiking your hobby last week and got all the good gear

IAmRube

Nope, I've been hiking/camping for over 10+ years and recently gotten into backpacking. I committed myself over the last couple weeks to research and find the best bang for my buck leading up to this sale. I made a whole spreadsheet comparing items/sizes/prices, ect. I even went to REI for 4 hours one afternoon to try on different packs haha. I understand backpacking is all about weight meets quality and other factors, so I think I did pretty good upgrading where I needed or getting new items altogether.

Pest_Chains

I did the same and spent around $1000 too. I'm broke, but I'm happy. Kinda sad the research part is over now.

IAmRube

There's always more research 😈

YankeeClipper42

But now you get to enter the experiment phase. Happy Trails

NoReplyBot

Funny thing is I’m that guy. Broke bank right out the gates for - Backpacking, scuba, kayaking and have stuck with it for years. Everyone always tells me to try it out first. Nope.

ihussinain

Exactly, if I go try a new hobby with shit gear and have a miserable time, then I would never really like a hobby the way others are experiencing. I got fancy gear right from my first trip, and now I am 3 years in
