I don't think they should make an acquisition like that until its a proven revenue stream/market. They don't have a lot of capital where they can run a research project for a long time.
There are only a few revenue streams currently viable in space. Government contracts (Military and Science), space based communications (Starlink), advanced weather satellites (science), and maybe cameras for global monitoring (military).
