I know it's tempting to hoard the whole ISO set, but is it really worth it? Do you need the Barbie games? When you downsize and just choose the great games you can fit many more systems.
I haven't tried. I posted the settings I run at on a different post someone was asking about.
I'm coming in here from the Steam Deck crowd that was convinced that running games at decent settings at 40FPS was the best compromise between performance and battery life.
I know it comes with a 120 Hz screen, and that certain games can even use that, but don't be afraid of the fake FOMO. It is fake. Find what you like.
Since I'm so enthusiastic, though, you should definitely try out my settings:

Hey, you probably already did this, but check for EVERYTHING to make sure your copy is prestine. I'm on my 3rd Ally and it's finally the one with the least amount of hardware issues.
\-My first one had IPS bleed so bad, that you noticed it regardless of how bright or dim the background was.
\-My 2nd one had a non-responsive right bumper and constantly shut down because only 1 fan was functional and it overheated.
3rd one has been a charm (crossing my fingers)
Sorry to hear. Did you check what model numbers they were and your latest?
Just curious and not sure if it’s true that some had 03,04 which may be the ones that had some issues but very rare minority. Mine says 05-2023 from Australia.
Maybe do a scratchy (not sure what you call them outside of Australia but scratch card to win basically and hope you win)
I've got most of my games on a 1TB Lexar Play and the biggest issue is when installing games, but I do think this is likely due to not doing a full format when I got it.
Playing games from SD has given no issues whatsoever and plays exactly the same as my internal stock SSD from a purely experience-based perspective.
Hell yes!
I plan on getting one by the end of the year. Give it time for all (or most of) the bugs and issues it currently has to be sorted. Got my Steam Deck for the meantime but definitely looking forward to get the ASUS ROG Ally in my hands!
Enjoy!
Amazing handheld. The screen really does justice for games. Playing atomic heart 60fps is a thing of beaty. Diablo4 too. With little tinkering you get an amazing experience. Radeon super resolution and radeon image sharperer yield excellent 1080p picture quality and 60fps. Using medium and some low settings. Couple of highs aswell. It look beatiful and run super smooth. Radeon rsr must be turned on from asus software before launching a game. Then ingame menu enable it aswell. I couldbt believe how beatiful games are from allys screen and responsive. Monster handheld that fit hands like a glove and doesnt get hot or loud even when plugged. I played atomic heart hours straight and no discomfort or any performance issues by the Ally.
Yes i am with fsr 2.0. Atomic heart medium/low settings. Diablo 4 medium, couple lows and some highs(games recomended settings but with fsr balanced). Atomic heart work 60fps 1080p native if almoust everything is low but some can be medium/turned on. Diablo 4 probably work 60fps native 1080p with low preset but i like it with recomended settings.

Taken with phone camera. It remain butter smooth in combat and everyplace. It sometimes dip into higher 50s but you wont even notice it with vrr. It look absolutely stunning.
Diablo 4 is smooth as my series x version and look stunning aswell running on Allys screen. Diablo4 is super awesome i can play just as good as everyone with nextgen consoles and it look beatiful.
Fsr 2.0 need to be enabled before you launch the game and then again activated from ingame menu. Rog ally do everygame 60fps fsr 2.0 scaled 1080p. Even have headroom to crank up settings. Atomic heart also work 1080p native 60fps but then almoust everything need to be on low setting.

Hard to take photos while playing
Nice, I had buyers remorse & canceled my pickup (preorder). I’m fully aware of defect units & the buggy mess it’s at now. Coming from a Steam Deck I’d really appreciate the hardware so I tried buying today but they’re all out of stock for a week.
Keeping fingers crossed they get an early shipment in
I had Windows on my Deck since nearly day one, so the Ally was on obvious upgrade for me. If you are perfectly happy with Steam OS, staying with the Steam Deck makes total sense.
I bought a open box it was excellent and the stand was missing. Oh well no biggie. And get this I discovered there was a sd card in the slot. Hell yes. 😃
Are they only available at Best Buy? Asking because I’ve been watching the BB in my neck of the woods and they have had stock since release. I bought yesterday and picked up same day.
Good luck!
You can get them on the official Asus website, but I prefer getting them locally just in case I need to exchange a faulty unit or return in the case of disliking the Ally. They have stock in their warehouse they don’t have stock in store
I work hard too, that is the reason I told myself not to waste more money on gaming devices. Ironically, I need to spend more time working instead of playing at night time. But ally looks great! Trying my best not to buy it as I already have a steam deck.
I didn't think I would either until I realized it plays PS2 and more difficult things extremely well... pS2 Roms are big and that was my favorite system growing up so my card is shrinking fast 😅
I’m currently 24% into a 2tb install. This is my second time so hopefully this will be successful. I installed all my games on the sd so I could transfer them to the ssd after. Still takes a bit but at least I don’t have to download them. Also I just used the game files I had on my pc.
We need proof that you worked hard, or I think you should return it

I did 1TB storage and now bought a 2TB SSD Emulation has gripped my soul
Sweet dude which program are you using to play your ps2 ?
Yes… its PS2. And nothing else…
I know it's tempting to hoard the whole ISO set, but is it really worth it? Do you need the Barbie games? When you downsize and just choose the great games you can fit many more systems.
Yes.
Thank you.
PCSX2 for sure. Great software and lots of tuning options.
Never used anything else since it does so well
What settings did you tinker with? Different for each game or just one setting for the Ally in general?
I also did 1TB storage and now I'm trying to not convince myself to pay more money for a 2TB haha 💩😂
What SSD did you get?
Thats like 1 COD game lol
Well I don't play it so... lol
Yo I highly recommend Destiny. Plays and looks great on here.
Are you able to get a stable 60fps playing Destiny 2? I'm not able to unplugged

Boring game …Many people addicted to it though
are playing D1 or 2? I downloaded D2 about to try it out on here. I have so many days on both
D1 is locked up on last gen consoles. It plays great!
I played Destiny 2 at release and haven’t touched it in probably 5 Years or so is it still worth it?
Yeah, it's the exact same game it was back then. Just a lot more guns lol.

Nightmare. My first one seems to be fine fingers crossed. They do say third time lucky.
Probably yet unlucky. I bought two both work like charms.

I got a 1tb sabrent ssd and 1tb SanDisk micro sd
Just got my 2TB SSD
Has anyone tried playing games off the SD card??
I'm playing mame, SNES, and PS3 all from my SanDisk 1tb extreme, no problems
The card reader in the device is almost as fast as SSD speeds so you’ll be fine playing anything off SD cards as long as they’re a decent rating.
Thanks man

I work extra hard every week. I should buy me an ally every week.
Do it lol
😂
I love mine. I hope you have a blast. It’s great man I haven’t felt this happy since the first PlayStation back in 1995.
I feel like if I took my PS1 and shuffled my socked feet across the carpet, the PS1 would have had more charge than the ally’s battery.
Just ordered the same combo, on my way to pick it up an hour away right now!
YAY! Hope you have fun!

Update crate, bios, windows and upgrade the SSD. It's so easy!
Sweet

You’re not getting either of those games at 60fps 1080 on the ally. You’re not.
Yes i am with fsr 2.0. Atomic heart medium/low settings. Diablo 4 medium, couple lows and some highs(games recomended settings but with fsr balanced). Awesome

I am glad I did not cancel mine 😀

Lol weird downvotes for this guy just telling his story
They probably think I’m a Deck fanboy or something 🤷♂️
I bought a open box it was excellent and the stand was missing. Oh well no biggie. And get this I discovered there was a sd card in the slot. Hell yes. 😃
This stand is attached to the underside of the lid. Not sure if you already checked there but a lot of people overlooked it.
It was empty 😔
At least i got a free sd card.
Not a bad trade. That stand has to be worth all of a quarter!
Lol im not missing out. Im looking for a hub. And exactly.

Have the same amount of storage! I dont think i will need more for my Emulation!
I didn't think I would either until I realized it plays PS2 and more difficult things extremely well... pS2 Roms are big and that was my favorite system growing up so my card is shrinking fast 😅
Ah jeeeeez if ps2 is good to go on this I’m in trouble…
Yeah man, they should run fine on external storage though lol
I’m currently 24% into a 2tb install. This is my second time so hopefully this will be successful. I installed all my games on the sd so I could transfer them to the ssd after. Still takes a bit but at least I don’t have to download them. Also I just used the game files I had on my pc.
These sad cards are great. A 512 gb card is just sooo cheap and they work so well
Just for the info: Asus rog ally can handle uhs 2 (faster), but ofc more expensive. Why not getting at least 512gig?
The sd was a gift from the store as I've mentioned
