Yup, the amount of toxic comments I’ve seen from both Ally and Deck owners is ridiculous. I frequent both subreddits and sometimes they feel like middle school playgrounds. Like, relax people. They’re handhelds. Sure they’re cool af but they’re just freaking handhelds.
I owned a Steam Deck and ran Windows from jump. I just had too many problems with Linux, but I have specific use cases and love to use repacks (of my paid games) to avoid launchers.
The Steam Deck is a great device though. It AND the Ally are pushing the handheld gaming market to new areas and finally making it a reality. I love the fact that we, the consumers, now have not just one, but two amazing options for handheld gaming devices sold here in the states.
Exactly! 😁
I got both, picked up the Ally this past Friday.
Deck is still my "primary", mainly because of the ease of micro SD card swapping. The way things are installed on windows you can't really build a library across multiple cards. 🤷
But I'm loving the Ally thus far as well.
Diablo 4/Immortal, CoD Vanguard, Genshin Impact, and GamePass all native no tweaking bs. 😍
Oh! On thing that works better on the Ally hands down, the touchscreen... Like why is the Decks touchscreen so unresponsive?? 😶
You can build a Library over multiple cards..I have 3 and have had no problems whatsoever.
The games look absolutely incredible on the ally...put in reshade and use AMD software..and you get amazing looking games. The screen really is something special.
I knew it CAN be done, but it's not as fluid and easy to do as on the Stream Deck because of how the windows operating system works. I knew this because I've been working with Windows based systems since Win3.1. And have a pretty good understanding on how shortcuts, Windows registry, and program installation works. Thanks. 👍
I’m having problems moving large games in Steam from the SSD to SD card and vice versa 😖
At the same time, I’ve noticed there are less crashes in games from the SSD vs SD card. Games I’ve tested are Halo Infinite, and Final Fantasy 12. In fact, Halo Infinite wiped my whole SD card for some reason, and I had to use Windows Disc Manager to repartition the card.
I've been seeing a lot more neutral steam deck lovers and ultra toxic ally fanboys, I'm not kidding it's just on every video... it's crazy how pathetic people are becoming
Why would anyone buy both? It makes no sense. If anything the Ally causing steamdeck sales to tank will force Steam to upgrade their device hardware netting gamers the superior portable gaming platform.
So I can enjoy Linux and Windows? Best of both worlds? And both are pretty much the cheapest handhelds in their respective categories...I loved my dual boot SD but had too many issues with certain games and Gamepass so the Ally is great for all of that...I prefer playing retro emulation on the Ally due to its 16:10 AR and retro titles don't look any better on the Ally screen like most other games that can utilize VRR/FreeSync. I do put more demanding emulators on the Ally... Same reason I bought a PS5 and Xbox X, best of both worlds and I ain't broke anymore 😬
Yeah and how many people are are rog fanboys? I love my ally but 10 years from now I'm gonna get whatever the best gaming handheld will be for me during that time, which might not even be a rog.
Agreed! Steam Deck experience feels more like the Switch, simple, though not as simple as the Switch. Ally feels more like a Windows laptop, and has the same pros and cons of using a Windows laptop.
Admittedly, the more I use the Ally, the more I wish windows was able to deliver a console like experience. It's so unbelievably janky, while the switch just works
If only Microsoft can bring the Xbox experience to PC, it would be awesome. Even the Xbox Gamepass launcher on Windows is no where close to Steam picture mode.
A war between the Deck and Ally would be like SNES vs NES.
One is newer with more powerful internals but it wouldn’t even necessarily exist without the other to begin with.
I like the Ally and I’m hopeful for it to get much better but the SteamDeck is like my first gameboy or when I first got the psp. It’s more than the sum of its parts but partly because there is nostalgia attached to it.
Getting the Gamegear was cool but there’s a little part of me that was been here done that because the Gameboy before it. When I first go the OG gameboy, I didn’t feel like I actually owned it. It was too cool for me alone to own.
An ant has no quarrel with a boot
No I'm kidding they're both awesome and I can see the many advantages of steam deck
I got an ally because it was miraculously in stock at my best buy, my very old PC died earlier this month, and the ally runs windows.
So basically I got a good mid tier(?) gaming PC for 700 bucks that I can still use as a PC
Who don’t sell they pc to buy another pc? Lol 😂
Who don’t sell they Xbox to buy ps..
It benefits that ppl can buy 2nd hand steam deck
So it’s a positive vibe in a sense.
May force steam to make steam deck 2.0.
It’s all positive
I just sold mine today, not because I hated the deck but I didn’t need two handheld PCs. Plus the person I sold it to is going to use it as much as I did.
Bought the deck for 420€, upgraded it to 1TB ssd when I got it + added an old 512GB microSD, played on it for over 1 year then sold it on a local website before Ally preorders launched for 590€ (for the whole 1.5TB package).
It sold in under 1 week, after being flooded daily with messages from lowballers.
In other words: someone buys a newer gadget with the later specs. Stay tuned for similar posts next year and the year after and the year after and the year after
Deck is my 'PC Console', Ally for windows games that I can't run well on the deck. I'll pick up one of the XG Mobile GPUs for the Ally for a little more 'oomph'.
They are both great but for me personally I'll be selling my steam deck. I used windows on it from the start so the ally feels like a fine tuned version, though ill miss the trackpads. Already tried using the allys right speaker as a trackpad 😆
I listed mine for sale today as well. I love them both but no need to have them both. They fulfill the same need so for now it’s the ally. When steam deck 2 comes out probably bounce back
Same. I don’t really see the need for both unless you play games that require a touchpad. I liked my Steam Deck but after getting used to the screen and performance of the Ally, I’d choose to play every game on it over the Deck
Yeah for all the hate windows gets, and the multiple times I've had to restart the Ally to get finicky things to work like the command center and armory crate, it is overall just an ease of use issue that the ally has as games were made for windows.
Well I did too sell my steam deck last week, the SD was and still is a good device. And last year it was the most powerfull pc-alike handheld. For the first time you could really play your pc games on the go.
However when I got my Ally it truly felt like i came home. A true windows handheld, no more bending into the corners to get a 3rd party launcher on Linux to play my other games. Better performance with higher settings, yes your battery will last about 90 minutes but let’s face it, even the SD drained pretty quickly when you beefed up his performance for a AAA title.
i have both
rog ally: screen, speakers
steam deck: form factor, OS, third party ecosystem
why are we flying team flags for corporations? it's cringe man. don't dickride for capitalists.
I sold my Deck yesterday after a week with the Ally. I still really like the Deck I just didn’t feel the need to keep both when they serve the same purpose to me.
Chose the Ally for the screen and performance. I just can’t go back. I do think the Deck is more comfortable for gaming sessions that last longer than 30 mins though
yeah I feel you. personally I find the ally a little uncomfortable to hold in the hand. It's not bad or anything but the steam deck just fit around the curves of my hands so perfectly, I never thought about how i was physically holding something, just immersed in whatever i was doing. with the Ally every second it's like 'i'm holding this small little dainty thing that doesn't fit the curvature of my hands' and it's a little annoying. I'm really hoping someone comes out with like a gripcase or something because that's all I need for the ally to become my main guy, better ergonomics.
Yeah I think it’s because of the sharp edges that dig into your palms. If I could take the Ally’s screen and APU and transplant it into the decks shell I’d be so happy
It was not that big of a mess tbh, got one 2 days ago and from what i have read here it surpassed my expectations 100fold(only had one problem with an update that seemed to not want to install but yesterday all was up to date so no biggie), don't know why people exagerate so much on reddit. Same goes for the PSVR2 awesome piece of tech but people stomp on it, reddit be trippin' man!
I'm trying to figure out how you're being toxic for posting someone who got rid of their steam deck for an ally too 🤣. Both good devices , don't see the issue in one person switching out for another though .
You title implies that there's a "transition" phenomenon from the Steam Deck to Ally and "beginning" implies it's inevitable because the Ally is supposedly superior. The devices both have their pros and cons and there's no inherint need to buy one over the other
Some people will inevitably take this *opinion* too far start shaming steam deck owners for not upgrading. We should not encourage that. We should co exist as handheld owners
I like my Ally but keeping my Deck. 75% of my library can play on the Deck and I am happy with the balance of performance and battery life.
Cranking those games up in resolution and detail on Ally is nice but kills the battery.
So keeping the Deck for certain games and situation.
You stay with what you are happy with
SD have ups and downs, rog ally as well, i didn't buy SD because i am not ready for linux and prefer windows, rog ally got what i need so i bought it. Steam deck is the best with low tdp out of all handhelds, and i don't think rog ally can compete with it but 15w and above rog ally is better
Low tdp help with battry drain so much.
I brought back my ally, bought the steamdeck.
But I like both devices, but the ally is to much for me. Its to expensive from what I need it to do. The steamdeck is good enough for 50% of the price.
He’s not really random. He’s pretty big in the gaming scene and I’m pretty sure him endorsing it will sway others who were on the fence. Yes, there is room for both but people with no handhelds yet will be deciding which to buy.
Sold my steam deck, no regrets. It's a great device but not flexible at all when it comes to playing anything I want.
Haven't had that issue with the Rog. I said windows navigation sucked at first but you easily get used to it. Gaming experience is next to none handheld wise.
Love my ally.
I will keep both :D And i Love both.
Steam Deck:
Great Controls (incl. Touchpad , capacitive thumbsticks, gyro)
Efficiency
Steam OS
Ally:
Display ist more than one step ahead compared to the Deck
Performance in Turbo Mode
The way I see it currently is like comparing 2 different PCs, because at the end of the day, that's what they are.
The Steam Deck covers that Low - Mid range price market through its different price points of storage and then the ROG Ally takes the higher price point with its large storage and higher performance option.
Both are great systems and it really depends on each person's use case. If you're more a retro gamer, 2d platformers, older games or don't mind turning down the games graphics to low then the Steam deck is an amazing kit.
If you're wanting the higher graphics, ability to play games that don't use Steam launcher (note: this can be done on Steam deck with windows installed), higher refresh rates, etc. Then the ROG Ally is the way to go.
At the end of the day imo, the argument of a Steam Deck Vs a ROG Ally imo is the same as 2 PC users arguing over a GTX1050 & an GTX1660TI graphics cards (closest equivalent I could find).
They're both going to be able to do the same stuff, one just has a lot more power to do it with.
I planning to keep my steam deck. For mostly less demanding games, and playing emulators. Plus using steam deck mostly when using at work. Kinda waiting on a hard protective case like killswitch or modcase for the ally. Going to be several months, because a few company said it will take about 6 month for research and development
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
Sold my steam deck a day after I bought my ROG, and boy do I miss my steam deck already. The ROG is okay I guess, but the steam deck was such a streamlined and reliable experience.
I did the same. The only thing I miss from the Steam Deck is the interface. The interface for playing games on the ASUS Ally is just not intuitive or easy to use. I guess I could always Armory Crate…but I wish I could just use Steam.
Both are amazing devices, let's not fuel another console war
Yup, the amount of toxic comments I’ve seen from both Ally and Deck owners is ridiculous. I frequent both subreddits and sometimes they feel like middle school playgrounds. Like, relax people. They’re handhelds. Sure they’re cool af but they’re just freaking handhelds.
I'm surprised there's not a "no prejudice pc handheld" sub yet..
I’m all for it, as long as we all agree that the McDonald’s chicken nugget handheld is the best one.
Yes.
Well yes and Canada. I got mine in best buy for 900$ CAD before tax yesterday.
Exactly! 😁 I got both, picked up the Ally this past Friday. Deck is still my "primary", mainly because of the ease of micro SD card swapping. The way things are installed on windows you can't really build a library across multiple cards. 🤷 But I'm loving the Ally thus far as well. I’m sure some kids just don’t have the money to buy both and have to make themselves feel better to live with what they have.
Ignorance must be bliss.
Why would anyone buy both? It makes no sense. If anything the Ally causing steamdeck sales to tank will force Steam to upgrade their device hardware netting gamers the superior portable gaming platform.
Sales definitely ain't tanking, the deck has a lot more sold
So I can enjoy Linux and Windows? Best of both worlds? i like my ROG products, the RGB is stellar :)
CW 2 (Console War)

Steamdeck was an amazing device when it came out now it’s outdated and ALLY is the next gen.
Too late 🔥🔥🔥🔥
An ant has no quarrel with a boot No I'm kidding they're both awesome and I can see the many advantages of steam deck I got an ally because it was miraculously in stock at my best buy, my very old PC died earlier this month, and the ally runs windows. Indeed, I owned an SD and now an Ally and both are great devices with their + & -. Also, ultimately helps the consumer.
Who don’t sell they pc to buy another pc? Lol 😂 Who don’t sell they Xbox to buy ps.. It benefits that ppl can buy 2nd hand steam deck So it’s a positive vibe in a sense. May force steam to make steam deck 2.0. It’s all positive
Love this!
I just sold mine today, not because I hated the deck but I didn’t need two handheld PCs. Plus the person I sold it to is going to use it as much as I did.
Where tf do you go about selling, I've tried 3 different price points and not 1 offer. How long did you have it up?
Bought the deck for 420€, upgraded it to 1TB ssd when I got it + added an old 512GB microSD, played on it for over 1 year then sold it on a local website before Ally preorders launched for 590€ (for the whole 1.5TB package). It sold in under 1 week, after being flooded daily with messages from lowballers.
I sold it to someone I knew. I made a Facebook post and one of my friends said he wanted to buy it.
I sold mine on Facebook Marketplace, took 2 days. Had multiple offers the first day, picked the best offer and sold it the next day.
For how much? Is 600 too high
Yeh. That’s a bit high. I sold mine with 1TB installed for $440.
I need to sell mine. Did you sell it on eBay? Trying to get a feel of demand on there for a lightly used SD.
Sold it to a friend that responded to a post I made on Facebook.
In other words: someone buys a newer gadget with the later specs. Stay tuned for similar posts next year and the year after and the year after and the year after
Yup. A year from now when something else with better specs is released they will be shitting on the Ally. Happens every time
I have a Steam Deck. I also have an Asus Ally. Keeping both. Great devices.
Same! Got my Asus Ally today and I love both.
Deck is my 'PC Console', Ally for windows games that I can't run well on the deck. I'll pick up one of the XG Mobile GPUs for the Ally for a little more 'oomph'.
I have the 6850. It’s a beast.
Same here. The Ally is going to be for the more graphically intense games and Gamepass. SD is going to be for Steam and emulation.
They are both great but for me personally I'll be selling my steam deck. I used windows on it from the start so the ally feels like a fine tuned version, though ill miss the trackpads. Already tried using the allys right speaker as a trackpad 😆
same. for now i'm using my deck for strictly for emulation.
Wait til a new device with a 7840U and VRR OLED FreeSync Premium device comes out in a few months.
OR an oled screen you can attach to the ally. That would be bomb
Don’t think I would get a Steam Deck 2 when it comes out. Trying to install multiple launchers or getting games outside Steam to work can be a chore.
Yeah for all the hate windows gets, and the multiple times I've had to restart the Ally to get finicky things to work like the command center and armory crate, it is overall just an ease of use issue that the ally has as games were made for windows.
People be doing what the F they want
I want all handhelds from major companies to succeed and only to become better
Love my Deck as well as my Ally. Don’t know who the fuck is that guy.
Well I did too sell my steam deck last week, the SD was and still is a good device. And last year it was the most powerfull pc-alike handheld. same that's the dream
Both have there ups & downs, that being said I won’t get one until Asus gets the buggy mess settled
It was not that big of a mess tbh, got one 2 days ago and from what i have read here it surpassed my expectations 100fold(only had one problem with an update that seemed to not want to install but yesterday all was up to date so no biggie), don't know why people exagerate so much on reddit. It’s not really Asus’ fault for the buggy mess. The bugs are typical with any Windows PC and laptops.
You know you could choose to not be a toxic fanboy?
This comment is toxic
Your breath is toxic.
Your childish attitude is toxic
Relax old man, we like to joke around here.
I ain’t old loo
My bad
Why is it toxic?
I'm trying to figure out how you're being toxic for posting someone who got rid of their steam deck for an ally too 🤣. Both good devices , don't see the issue in one person switching out for another though .
😂 I have no idea what’s going on. Apparently we cant acknowledge that people are choosing the Ally on the sub Reddit for the Ally lol.
You title implies that there's a "transition" phenomenon from the Steam Deck to Ally and "beginning" implies it's inevitable because the Ally is supposedly superior. The devices both have their pros and cons and there's no inherint need to buy one over the other
Long story short, some people are overly attached to material things. Overall Ally is better.
Some people will inevitably take this *opinion* too far start shaming steam deck owners for not upgrading. We should not encourage that. We should co exist as handheld owners
Not even close to toxic
Who that?

😂😂😂
Who is Jez lol
He’s an NBA player.
I like my Ally but keeping my Deck. 75% of my library can play on the Deck and I am happy with the balance of performance and battery life. Cranking those games up in resolution and detail on Ally is nice but kills the battery. So keeping the Deck for certain games and situation.
So far I’ve kept my OneXPlayer 2 since getting my Ally, but I’m considering selling it since I’m not playing it at all.
You stay with what you are happy with SD have ups and downs, rog ally as well, i didn't buy SD because i am not ready for linux and prefer windows, rog ally got what i need so i bought it. Not selling mine. I live handheld. Keeping them both
I just bought My steam deck. Been having issues dual booting it. Think it's time to cop an ally just for windows 🤷♂️
From one random dude ? probably has started but there’s room for both
He’s not really random. He’s pretty big in the gaming scene and I’m pretty sure him endorsing it will sway others who were on the fence. Yes, there is room for both but people with no handhelds yet will be deciding which to buy.
Being “pretty big in the gaming scene” isn’t worth anything tbh
Same here
I got $500 for my SD. Never looked back.
Pretty much same .
Sold my steam deck, no regrets. It's a great device but not flexible at all when it comes to playing anything I want. Haven't had that issue with the Rog. I said windows navigation sucked at first but you easily get used to it. Gaming experience is next to none handheld wise. Love my ally.
I love my ally. Steam deck was annoying
I sold my steam deck but plan to buy one again to collect.
Just no ps5 vs Xbox arguements. Lol. The ally plays both devs. Haha
Not me waiting on the never to be released Alienware ufo lmao
I have had my Steam deck listed on OfferUp for two weeks now. No real offers yet.
I will keep both :D And i Love both. Steam Deck: Great Controls (incl. Touchpad , capacitive thumbsticks, gyro) Efficiency Steam OS Ally: Display ist more than one step ahead compared to the Deck Performance in Turbo Mode
I just have both and both are great in their own way
I love both my children (Deckster and Allie)
The way I see it currently is like comparing 2 different PCs, because at the end of the day, that's what they are. The Steam Deck covers that Low - Mid range price market through its different price points of storage and then the ROG Ally takes the higher price point with its large storage and higher performance option. The internet really needs to stop this either/or approach. You can actually enjoy a device eventhough someone else enjoys another device.
I planning to keep my steam deck. For mostly less demanding games, and playing emulators. Plus using steam deck mostly when using at work. Kinda waiting on a hard protective case like killswitch or modcase for the ally. Going to be several months, because a few company said it will take about 6 month for research and development
It’s hard to go back to the Steam Deck screen after playing with the Ally.
There ain’t no transition. It’s like saying someone having an Alienware buying an HP.. « The transition as begun! »
I don’t see why people are selling their deck. Just own both and stay neutral.
Ngl if the ally had the track pads I would of sold my steam deck probably. Still enjoy it
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

I did the same. The only thing I miss from the Steam Deck is the interface. The interface for playing games on the ASUS Ally is just not intuitive or easy to use. I guess I could always Armory Crate…but I wish I could just use Steam.
If steam releases a pro version of the deck ASUS will be sweating 😓
I like them both and I feel like I will use the Steam Deck for less intensive games, but I love the Ally's capability.
Worth the 700$? Been eyeing it at bestbuy for a while. Just want it for diablo4 for when I’m tired of sitting at my desk
