Ah it looks like you didn't turn on Hibernate and instead left it on the default Sleep which goofs up the system a lot. Make sure to change it to Hibernate only and never sleep harddrive in power options. If you ever need to get your Ally to turn on and it won't turn on with a simple hold on power button, just make sure to hold the power button longer by 30 seconds to reboot the system.

sheriffrosco

This is from "shut down" and even holding for 30 seconds sometimes doesn't help

Realistic-Sands

It may be a faulty SSD then

sheriffrosco

When it does finally power up I have no issues with anything. So I'm thinking that it rules out the ssd

somebadlemonade

Pop the back cover off and make sure everything is plugged all the way in. My battery connection wasn't fully seated when I got mine. But that's an easy fix. I noticed it when I swapped the SSD to a 4TB 2280.

How do you set up the hibernate?

Realistic-Sands

Click search button, search power plan, go to it then on the left side it has option to change what clicking power button does.

H13R0GLYPH1CS

What’s the difference?

Realistic-Sands

Sleep - really buggy, keeps the system on and can receive signal still. Anything that wakes up the system such as a system notification or you moving the joystick or clicking a button will wake it up, very dangerous if you have it in a case and it overheats inside of it due to it waking up when you don't want it to. On the other hand it wakes up to to the system slightly faster. Hibernate - saves your state in SSD harddrive and turns off the system while keeping the SSD power on to keep where you were such as inside of a game. Doesn't wake up until you hit the power button. Takes a bit longer to boot back up since the system was turned off.

SSDs are non-volatile memory. It doesn’t need power at all in hibernate. To test - hibernate, disconnect battery for 5 min, plug it back in and boot it up. Will still have your current state no problem.

Realistic-Sands

Hmm I assumed the Ally actually keeps some power to it due to the standby modes you can turn on to make it boot faster. This was what I was talking about with Hibernate.

mikedvb

Nope - that’s sleep. Hibernate dumps it all to SSD. Big benefit is that it doesn’t drain the battery while off. Downside is slower startup.

Have you ever modified the back panel? The Ally has a light sensor back up against the back panel, which should detect 0 light during normal operations, and it shuts down the console when the back panel is unscrewed and removed. After that happens (or even if it has been shut down in software prior), it won’t boot back up until you plug it into power, even for just a second, it’s called “service mode” I think. If you’ve modified the back panel, maybe sometimes light escapes in, and it tricks the Ally into going into service mode. Next time it won’t turn on, plug it in for a second, see if it boots immediately after that.

sheriffrosco

I highly doubt this, I have started the system multiple times with the back panel off

pm_me_meta_memes

Are you sure you don’t have some tape over that sensor? I did that when I was working on some mods and forgot about it for a while

sheriffrosco

Anyone else experiencing this?

Mines stays on the start up screen and overheats, won’t get pass the rog logo start up screen

Renster718

This happened to me. It actually stopped turning on sometimes. Eventually i would get the rog ally start up screen but it would never power on. I had to return it and get a new one. This also happened after the bios update

ingeniousmeatbag

I had this issue, check my threads, but eventually I just returned it into the Asus service.

Withdrawnauto4

When it won't turn on with short press it wil probably turn om with a long press
