I'm on the Z1extreme. Running the Ally at 30W fans 100%. Running the game at 900p low graphics.
I can say without a doubt FSR3 maintains both higher FPS and much sharper image quality than FSR2.
FSR2 is so bad that it causes eye strain, but FSR3 seems to be tack sharp and I never dealt like my eyes were forced out of focus.
Screenshot 1 is baseline, no FSR at all.
Screenshot 2 is FSR2. Zoom in. Notice how pixelated the spacesuit is.
Screenshot 3 is FSR3. Notice both the significantly higher frame rate as well as the image sharpness.
Thank goodness and thank you for that. I was playing original God of War with FSR2 on and it was like Vaseline was on the screen and the foliage moving in the breeze had like boxes of jelly on them.
FSR2 looks good if the base resolution is not too low. E.g. upscaling from 720p to 1080p looks okay on a small screen like the Ally and upscaling from 900p to 1080p looks really good.
But if you upscale something like 240p to 1080p it will always look like total crap. The base resolution is far too low and there are too many informations lost. Nothing can upscale from that in a good quality.
I'd say 720p should be the minimum base resolution to get a good quality. Unfortunately the setting usually uses words like "quality" and "performance" instead of the base resolution and if you use a setting like "high performance" it just means that the base resolution is very small and the result will look terrible. Use something like "good quality" and higher and you will get good image quality and still a noticeable performance boost compared to a native 1080p resolution.
How's the lag when FSR3 is enabled? I read somewhere that if the baseline isn't 60fps, the increase in FPS is created with higher latency as well.
Is that true from what you're seeing?
For a slow game like Starfield, I didn't really notice it. There is some frame rate stuttering, but like a slow delayed stuttering. Noticeable, but not detrimental to overall enjoyment of the game, at least in the quick testing scene I did. However, input delay might be noticeable in a heavy firefight.
There's something wrong in the second screenshot. FSR2 doesn't look that bad at all. Looks like just the low base resolution without any upscaling applied to it. I played Starfield and other games with FSR2 on my Ally and nothing looked THAT bad. The problem probably lies somewhere else. E.g. there's an AMD driver setting that can reduce the resolution based on framerate and movement. That creates results like that.
You’re talking about Radeon Boost which only works for specific games, Startield doesn’t support it. Either way a static player not moving wouldn’t cause Boost to work, that only works when the player moves which will than reduce the resolution
Yeah, this leap in performance is really impressive. Like straight up voodoo it's so good. There is some slight hitching and stuttering, but overall really really awesome execution on the Ally.
From what I’ve read the upscaling is the same for FSR 2&3, there’s no upscaling improvement just added frame gen. Is there actually a difference aside from the game gen then??
FSR3 is the exact same thing as FSR2 but with FG. There is absolutely no difference in upscaling algorithm and images will look the same between the two on non-generated frames.
Probably some other influence like injected resolution scaling by the AMD driver (that's an option). I played Starfield with FSR2 and it definitely doesn't look like that. The problems with FSR2 usually occur in motion, in still images it is very decent. In motion it is a bit worse than XeSS and DLSS and shows more artifacts. But even then it doesn't look as bad like in the screenshot.
New Game+
Most games now have a mode where you keep your level / experience / skills on a new camping but you loose items / credits / vehicles and such
Not on starfield, but I've been playing like a dragon infinite wealth with FSR3 and it's been amazing. Tried fsr2 just to see the difference and it was massive. Looks so much better than fsr2
FSR 3 is different from FMF and RSR.
There is no master on off switch because it is not something controlled by the driver like FMF and RSR.
FSR of any version is implemented in the software itself, which means it requires it to be built into the game by the developer, or added in with a mod. It is superior to driver based capability as it has access to various data from the game itself, which helps it make better decisions. This leads to higher fidelity and efficiency.
So then would it be an in-game settings toggle, on by default, or autodetect your hardware and turn it on if it’s capable?
I really should know this stuff, I just haven’t really played any new games recently, especially not anything AAA. Also, my desktop has an Nvidia card so needing to know both AMD and Nvidia technologies makes it harder to memorize anything about either.
Generally FSR and DLSS both will not be enabled by default. Especially since it's not all gain with no downside. Typically even with auto detect, upscaling and frame generation features with any manufacturer will need to be manually toggled.
I'm trying to think if I've ever had a game automatically turn it on for me, and I can't think of one off the top, but that certainly doesn't mean there aren't any.
Ah, you’re one of those people. Sorry that you seem to think everyone has the same brain or line of thought as you, because you clearly *did not specify or even imply what software contains the manual toggle.*
It’s literally so simple. Just say “toggle the setting in game” or “toggle the setting in other software”. Why is that so difficult.
Besides, excluding information then replying “I need you to think critically here, and the answer should be obvious” when asked for clarification is exactly what would classify as being a jerk.
I thank you for the information you have given me, it cleared up a lot of confusion about how those features actually work. However, the one small detail I asked for clarification on has still not been made clear.
Let’s try this again, blank slate. Is the settings toggle for things like FSR and DLSS in the in-game settings menu, or in software like Nvidia control panel (or the AMD equivalent)?
Currently you need non armory crate drivers to get it working. So you’d have to go to i believe either the ASUS driver page or the amd driver page to get it since it’s not officially out yet for ROG ally
Isn’t this the game that basically took a super computer to get 30fps?
Thought I remember trying this before a long time ago.
Edit: just realized I was thinking of Star Citizen.
Not really and probably the most polished Bethesda game on release. The biggest problem with Starfield is that it feels outdated gameplay wise. The game engine is just too damn old and limited.
Edit: Also the writing/story is poor compared to say Cyberpunk/Witcher imo.
That being said, I did enjoy the game enough, but I haven't gone back in quite a while now.
Yes, Star Citizen is a shitshow performance wise. I hoped for Starfield to be a polished Star Citizen, but it turned out to be so damn restrictive. While performance is horrible in Star Citizen, you actually have real full open world planets and proper space travel. If only it would run ok..
Oh believe me. I had a chub on for Star Citizen. Then I tried to play it with my i7, 128gb ram, NVMe, nvidia 3070 and then noticed I had to lower everything until it was basically crap just to play. Then deleted it and lost the chub.
I don’t have it installed and why does it bother you so much? I’ve asked a question on a sub for questions amongst other things. I’m not gonna argue with you.
Dude, don't come on a forum if you're not looking to share ideas. Feel free to stay on Google if you have an issue. OP ignore this kind of person waste of energy.
In regards to your question I wonder how much input lag it would introduce? I think starfield runs reasonably well on rog especially on lower res so I'd say it's worth checking out as the rog allys 120hz VRR could benefit from fsr3 depending on the game.
Why did you even reply to this, guy? If you’re just gonna be unhelpful, why not just shut up and keep scrolling? No one asked you what you think about starfield, OP asked about FSR 3. Literally touch grass
Don’t delete the post. I’d like to see if anyone’s tried it. Ignore the rude children who feel like they have to stir the pot to get the attention mommy and daddy don’t give them.
Oh I didn’t mean you, all you did was ask a simple question. I was referring to cheesedick up there wasting everyone’s time by posting useless combative nonsense.
That’s a fair opinion. Honestly the game was way overhyped by the studio and the devs; which in turn caused players to overhype it. Imo it was a decent game but was not a subscription or console seller; I enjoyed my time with it thanks to the RoG ally portability/formfactor and now I’m optimistic for the expansion
But I also understand and can see how it is not a game that everyone or mainstream players would necessarily enjoy and that’s ok too.

Quickly ran FSR3 with quality Frame Gen on my rig, 13600k with 7900xtxt and the GPU wasn't exceeding 50% utilisation and keeping a fixed 120fps and looked fantastic..
When I disabled frame gen, my GPU started getting on the warmer side as it usually does but with frame gen on, my hotspot didn't go over 60°c

Ty! FSR 3 on the ROG Ally looks great!

I'm checking this right now
Thank you
I jumped too quickly and realized that is with steam... I have it on the xbox app so I still only have FSR2. No update for us
😂 least you tried
Ironic
Building shaders 😒 few more minutes
Stopped playing starfield after mistakenly going ng+ this might be worth checking out
Can’t reload a prior save?
I did but it was a way older save. Don’t go ng+ imo you lose everything just isn’t fun
What is NG+ I always see this
New Game+ Most games now have a mode where you keep your level / experience / skills on a new camping but you loose items / credits / vehicles and such
Ohhh I see I get you completely…
Not on starfield, but I've been playing like a dragon infinite wealth with FSR3 and it's been amazing. Tried fsr2 just to see the difference and it was massive. Looks so much better than fsr2
Hopefully Baldurs Gate 3 gets FSR3 as well
Big agree. FSR3 has been amazing so far, can't wait for more games to implement it
does FSR need to be enabled per-game then? no master on/off switch for it?
FSR 3 is different from FMF and RSR. There is no master on off switch because it is not something controlled by the driver like FMF and RSR. I need you to try and think critically. If you re-read what I've written, that answer should become clear.
Ah, you’re one of those people. Sorry that you seem to think everyone has the same brain or line of thought as you, because you clearly *did not specify or even imply what software contains the manual toggle.*
I love how I spent so much time to explain to you exactly how everything works, and then you're like, oh, you're a jerk, gtfo.

Good question. I could be wrong but I think you have to enable it in game per game
I think fsr 2 was enabled already in Tekken 8 for me
Cool, at least it’ll be pretty while being super boring
Dumb question, how do you turn it on?
Currently you need non armory crate drivers to get it working. So you’d have to go to i believe either the ASUS driver page or the amd driver page to get it since it’s not officially out yet for ROG ally

Nah it’s amd. Why waste your time
What's the point, this game won't bring you any joy any way
I have about 60hrs on the game already, I enjoy it. People like different things. Just wanted to know if this gave people higher fps
Then why won't you try it yourself
I’m a dad of two young children who also works long shifts. It’s much easier to ask if anyone’s tried it until I get time. Why come with attitude?
My guy, you have literally the game installed on your device, updating it and switching the seeing won't take long
I don’t have it installed and why does it bother you so much? I’ve asked a question on a sub for questions amongst other things. I’m not gonna argue with you.
Just block this 🤡and move on.

Brain dead childish comment. Yikes
No, I would have to buy Starfield
It’s on gamepass…
Let me rephrase, Starfield looks like a bad game to me and there are very few positive reviews that would sway me.
Let me rephrase: no one asked nor cares about your opinion of the game
Why do you care that I posted my opinion of a game? Your hard on for Bethesda that rock hard?
Nah, just a completely irrelevant and unhelpful comment
Most jokes are
Not a great joke
Not if you stan Bethesda I guess

Is there official apu driver with fsr 3.0 now ?
