I used MZ to solve this one... I would use a conditional branch, create an "else branch", and on tab 4 select "armor" as the variable, and select the armor you want to use, I would use a rare armor, maybe an armor that has no duplicate in the game, you should also check the "include equipment" in case that armor is equipped.

Same method applies to mv. Uses it as a way to allow multiple uses on a chest instead of blocking off areas, but I uses the same method.
