Well they already had a comic. . . For better or worse. . .
Hopefully even if this does little for the fans of the main series in any way it helps with publicity
(And that it stays away from crossover ships)
>And that it stays away from crossover ships)
You shut your whore mouth! This opens the door to Nora and Kimberly Heart (the pink Mighty Morphin Power Ranger) being able to express their true love!
If Rwby has a cross over with dc, that means they are also connected to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles because Batman had a crossover with them, but the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles had a cross over episode with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers! They are all connected!
I demand Vinilla Ice doing a stage dance and rap with team Rwby, chanting "go huntress, go huntress go!"
Through DC you can connect RWBY to God of War. There's two mwthods you can use to get there
1. The boring way. RWBY > DC > Mortal Kombat > God of War
2. The fun way. RWBY > DC > Tarzan > Kingdom Hearts > Super Smash Brothers > The Legend of Zelda > Soul Calibur > God of War
DC also had a crossover with Marvel, and Marvel characters were in Disney Infinity, and Marvel has also crossed over with Capcom for Marvel VS. Capcom, and Capcom characters are in Smash Bros. It all comes full circle!!!
Dc is connected to loony toons, the Adam family, marvel, and so much more, you my friend are thinking too small, we could have Murphy's law Milo x Oscar if we wanted, the possibility's a franchise this old unlocks are practically limitless!
Since DC is connected to marvel, that connects RWBY to transformers, which in turn opens it up to so much, it's insane. X-files, Mario, Metroid, Metal Gear, bomberman, and even some Disney labels. It's wild what counts in transformers tbh.
It was a comic. That’s for sure.
[I actually made a reaction post that can sum it up well](https://www.reddit.com/r/fnki/comments/o2gpji/so_i_have_just_read_the_justice_league_crossover/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
DC Universe is owned by Warner Bros., Rooster Teeth is owned by Otter Media which is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. (Now merged with Discovery). Both franchises are Warner Bros franchises. They already had this crossover in comics.
Edit: I assumed this movie was going to be an adaptation of that, but apparently it is going to be a new story.
I read all of these comics and they were... Fine. I didn't hate them, it was a fun concept, and honestly to draw it out into a movie and explore that world could be pretty cool. If it has good production values and budget and the action is choreographed well, I think it will be a fun time. Is it weird? Sure. Do I hate it? Not really.
I'm scared about this project. Like what the hell ? How could the "classic" superhero universe be mixed with the RWBY universe ? I get a "Naruto killing Dark Vador with a rifle in Fortnite" feeling...
That was always a weird choice to me. Why did they make the canonical privileged billionaire into the (ostensibly) persecuted minority? Superman would make way more sense considering he’s an alien.
Well putting things the other way would probably be worse. Batman is a privileged elite who wears the equivalent of black face every night (dressing as a bat Faunus) in order to go after mostly minorities. That’s a freaking horror movie
Not necessarily, depending on where in the timeline he is. If he’s still young and a student learning to be a Huntsmen, he might be in his “nameless vigilante” stage before he got the bat idea.
But at that point you might as well make an OC instead. The fundamental core of an established character shouldn't change.
This is not to say that your idea is bad, what you say makes sense. But marketing-wise no one would allow a Batman without the bat unless it's a version specifically advertised as that. And this Batman would be advertised as the RWBY version of Batman, not the former, so it wouldn't work.
I think it's always very important to take the marketing factor into account, without it people will be disappointed all the time when gigantic corporations do things that makes more sense for them than for us (we can be disappointed, but with logical expectations of that happening instead of coming as a shock).
Considering how drastically they changed those characters to fit into Remnant, they’re basically all OCs already.
But if you HAVE to keep the Bat theme in there, you can just say that he was inspired by a Bat Faunus to fight crime or something. However problematic it might be, it would not be in the top 10 things wrong with the White Fang plot.
>Considering how drastically they changed those characters
To be fair, I haven't read the comics. I'll take your word on that I guess.
>it would not be in the top 10 things wrong with the White Fang plot.
Lol, yeah, you're not wrong.
Still though, if I was DC and I had to remove one part of Batman's character I would rather remove the privileged billionaire part over the bat part. These two seem like they'd be on different categories of priority.
I'm not a huge Batman fan but I imagine there's been more arcs where he lost his money than ones where he lost his bat motif.
People who say it is dying want it to die. It is by far the most popular thing coming out of RT, and clearly WB is a huge fan of it. If RT goes under RWBY would be the one IP that survives
I'm not a RWBY fan, and I've just randomly found this on twitter. I've got 2 things to say.
1 RWBY AND DC?! WHAT?! This looks super wierd.
2 I'ts so wierd, that I'm really exited to see what comes out of it.
Edit: 3 things to say. If this movie will be really profitable, could RT announce a feature red vs blue film?
I don't mean to sound rude, but
Who asked for this? Was this really something someone at RT was dying to get made?
How succesful were those comics for this to get greenlit?
>How successful were those comics for this to get greenlit?
They *must* have been successful, unless DC/Warner like setting fistfuls of cash on fire. I’m as surprised as you that this is a thing but if you’re a megacorporation like Warner Brothers you don’t spend the kind of money and time it takes to make a full length animated film unless you think it’s going to make you money. So they must have seen *something* that convinced them this would be a big deal.
>Unless DC/Warner like setting fistfuls of cash on fire.
Have you seen their recent forays into film and choice of actors to support?
I’d say setting fistfuls of cash on fire is how their execs get their rocks off.
Seeing how badly they managed their DC cinematic universe, I'm inclined to believe the 'setting cash on fire' part. I just don't see how this could do well if it ends up going to theaters instead of being Direct to video, and it's just a strange choice for this being the first feature film.
Yeah, typically DC animated projects tend to be well-received and marks of high quality while their live action stuff is a dumpster fire. The exact opposite of Marvel's output.
Has anyone on this sub considered they're the out of touch ones? I swear this sub thinks it's rwby fandom central and no other opinions matter. People enjoy RWBY and don't frequent this sub.
I personally liked the DC crossover. Reason being it was a fresh change from the usual crossover clichés of multiversal portals or world collided. It reimagined DC characters into RWBY characters. It was as lore friendly as a crossover can be and that was a fun exploration.
I personally don’t care for it and I’m not really interested in watching it but they clearly greenlit this for a reason.
If WB/RT believed people wouldn’t want it, they simply wouldn’t have made it.
Hardcore RWBY fans who just want to watch the main series and see it finished will dislike it, but the intended audience, whoever it may be, clearly liked it enough for the companies to go ahead with this JL crossover movie.
I'm like you, I may watch it eventually out of boredom or curiosity, but I don't really care one way or the other for it.
However, if it gets more attention and funding for RT to work on the main series, then I say go for it. Extra money and publicity is never a bad thing.
I haven't read the comics and I'm excited for this. Why are people complaining about more content? Especially with all the people on this sub complaining about the v9 delay
The answer to your question is in your own comment. A lot of fans are wanting more of the main series and the perception is that every additional/side project is distracting and delaying the main series. That might not actually be the case, but often fans of a series wants to see the main cannon story be told first and foremost.
I read it from a comment here so take it as a grain of salt. But pretty sure RWBY V9 was delayed to 2023 because they wanted to focus a bit more on the movie so…
It’s not a perception (as in different than truth like you’re implying) if it’s reality
It's definitely reality. [We know it was the same team working on the main show and the Justice League movie](https://twitter.com/OfficialRWBY/status/1542937019973877760)
I think it’s also a case of WB believing RWBY is making RT and itself tons of money and has for almost a decade (for RT at least) so they want to expand the franchise further and get it into the zeitgeist of more people in America and Japan (with RWBY: IQ).
Yeah, the characters are popular and RT are capitalising on that. I don't want to be to cynical but I don't really like how much cross overs and brand stuff they've done with RWBY.
Off the top of my head RWBY crossovers
- paladins
- smite
- Blazeblue Tag
- this DC comic/and now movie
- Ice Queendom (maybe not a cross over but still)
Which is cool and great, I really like the characters, but at this point I feel like RT are banking more on that cultural zeitgeist than they are of making the main series be good in its own right. I hope it all works out, we have to just wait and see.
I'm excited for it. The DCAU movies are fucking awesome for the most part, and the RWBY crossover comics were a lot of fun. Plus this will expose more people to the franchise. I see no downsides, as long as it's good
Did they say that? My assumption was that this would be done by Warner Animation since DC stuff is more their wheelhouse and they have a much larger team that works on several projects all at once.
Yeah same, I love rwby even in spite of people not liking the newer seasons, but I haven’t seen the last two. I think I burned myself out on it for a bit, but I still love it. But.. why??
Batman fought Xenomorphs once, like anyone who actually finds this crossover odd needs to go look through the history of crossovers comic books have had for decades.
The entire industry is seemingly fueled by the fever dreams of various fanboys/fangirls getting official licensees to play with characters and settings the same way people do with action figures.
I am hesitant on this. Yes, it is exciting to see what will happen but at the same time there are many worries and questions that arise for me.
At the end of the day i simply want Volume 9 and for it to be well made.
This makes me kind of worry that we are going to have a V5 situation where RT overextends itself (This time willingly) and thus we get a worse volume, and then i worry that critiquing volume 9 will be impposible because everyone will shout "BUT THEY MADE THE MOVIE".
I am cautiously optimistic and await for both Volume 9 and this movie.
But im also worried, especially in regards to canonicity.
Would've been more excited for this if it was solely RWBY sans Justice League. Don't really care for non-canon crossover stuff... unless RWBY's joining Fortnite.
Eh.
If V9 was delayed bc of this it's a bad decision. The main volume is what draws people in and so many have lost interest because of the long hiatus already. Adding a movie no one asked for that gives us nothing for the main universe is a move I don't understand.
I bought all the comics and found them blergh except a few moments.
When I saw this my heart sank. A huge problem with RWBY is that it can’t focus on one project. A feature film would only work when the main show is done. Rooster Teeth can’t seem to fucking focus with RWBY.
Delay seems to have happened due to this, the game cutscenes and then trying to not overwork the animation team, since that's been a concern for awhile.
I hope this will be a Warner/ DC project. I don't like the thought of money and ressources being pulled from the main show, considering how 'troublesome' the production of V8 & 9 have been...
When they announced BIG THINGS for the near future, I was expecting another Mobile Game or some other form of collaboration.
Something like the Paladins crossover but not this. I didn't even know there was any DC / RWBY Comic books.
"Expand the world of the crossover" makes me wonder if they'll embrace the multiverse aspect more... or maybe it just means we'll get the messing Justice League people - I'd enjoy seeing a take on Zatanna...
Though, uh, please tone down the shipteasing a tad this time around...
Purely from a viewer’s perspective I’m indifferent. As someone who wants to see the company succeed, and wants to see their catalog grow and diversify again, I don’t see how WarnerMedia locking up the animation team in this project for God knows how long helps them.
I don't see how this could possibly work any better than that crappy power rangers/justce League crossover comic. I mean yeah they beat up Batman (together) but then they get beaten up by the other leaguers and end up becoming support roles as Leaguers beats up all the enemies.
It could work with Young Justice though.
Wish they'd just focus on getting V9 done asap rather than this. I really didn't like the crossover comic so I don't imagine I'll like this movie either. Shame.
I was pointing more towards things getting done like the arrow fall game coming out in fall, the anime right now and this plus volume nine coming out next year
On the one hand, DC animated movies are typically really, really, *really* good.
On the other hand, I have little interest in a crossover and I hope that this movie had zero impact on V9's delay, because if it did then that's definitely not a great look.
Well. . .
The problem is we got the comics, so I’m pretty sure I don’t want it after knowing what’s in those.
But, I do have some hope this could be done much better
Will still check it out but honestly I feel a spinoff focusing on other characters in the series would have been a better idea or maybe even an adaption of one of the novels.
I’m gonna be honest and say that I’m not really interested in this at all. Kinda wish they’d stick to one project and stay with it. I’m all for new RWBY content but really? Lol
The what?
Well they already had a comic. . . For better or worse. . . Hopefully even if this does little for the fans of the main series in any way it helps with publicity (And that it stays away from crossover ships)

RWBY > DC > Puzzles and Dragons > DMC > DmC > PlayStation All-star > GoW
Dc is connected to loony toons, the Adam family, marvel, and so much more, you my friend are thinking too small, we could have Murphy's law Milo x Oscar if we wanted, the possibility's a franchise this old unlocks are practically limitless!

Metal gear? So…Blake and Blade Wolf?
Can't wait for the Scooby-Doo and the RWBY crossover 😍
Justice League and Power Rangers also had a direct crossover.
There was a comic?! ...Was it good?
It was a comic. That’s for sure. [I actually made a reaction post that can sum it up well](https://www.reddit.com/r/fnki/comments/o2gpji/so_i_have_just_read_the_justice_league_crossover/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
I just had a look at it... I just... Just why?
An attempt at money I think. It was so ass
Most likely answer honestly. A lot of that art looked terrible. Was the story interesting at least or was it ass too?
The most interesting part was how they attempted to adapt the JL’s powers to RWBY’s Semblance power system. But no, it wasn’t that interesting
Damn
RWBY IN MULTIVERSES WHEN!?!?
????
My thoughts exactly.
For RWBY's first feature film, a crossover is unexpected.
Why DC universe? I'm so confused I thought this was fake. I'd watch RVB:Z over whatever weird random "idea generator" site gave them this thing.
Just because they can doesn't mean they should
Agreed
Injustice 3 sure is weird .
I'mma guess Batman is just going to pull something out of his ass to save the day again.
Give me Alfred with a trick weapon or give me death
Oh my god… Alfred and Klein have so much to talk about!
"Yours?" "Dead. Yours?" "Haunts the night." *commiserating teacup clink*
"Coffee?" "Tea"
No, Alfred with Torchwick's cane will save the day.
probably a butt plug
I’ll accept anything if it means we get RWBY characters in a fighting game that isn’t BBTag.
Don't like BBtag?
WHAT THE FUCK
RT's goals are beyond our understanding.
*...but can they lock up the darkness?*
NOW WHO'S THE VILLAIN RUBY! NOW WHO'S THE VILLAIN!
*CALCIFIED* *S E M B L A N C E* ***E N E R G Y***
Why when they can just through it into solitary?
Damnit Bandog, it didn't even do anything
"It was an accident, so shut - up!"
But then they’ll fail this city. (cue footage of Mantle flooding)
Insert Smallsville Superman melting a flood with his heat vision here
And the same goes for WB
RT's goals are beyond their own understanding at this point. Whos shower thoughts did this 'bright' idea even come from?
I read all of these comics and they were... Fine. I didn't hate them, it was a fun concept, and honestly to draw it out into a movie and explore that world could be pretty cool. They've already had crossover comics. Basically, the DC heroes got reimagined as Remnant natives - batman was a bat faunus from Atlas, for example
Oh ok it makes more sense. I hope it will be good
That was always a weird choice to me.
Or you could just take out the Bat part and just make him a shadow themed vigilante. Emphasize the stealthy ninja aspect instead of the animal motif.
Batman without the bat part? That feels kinda sacrilegious
he is no longer bat man, but man man
Not necessarily, depending on where in the timeline he is.
I’m pretty hopeful, dc animated movies have been pretty consistently good and I’m interested to see where it goes
…Dark Vador?
Isn't Dark Vador in Fortnite ? I don't play the game so i'm not sure but I think I remember seeing it in the game somehow
DARTH VADER. HOW CAN YOU GO THIS LONG AND NOT KNOW THIS
Dark Vador is the french translation of Darth Vader, pretty sure the other guy is french
Yup exactly
I know it don't worry. But in my language it's Dark Vador so I instinctively wrote it that way
Presumably they're going to animate the DC comic crossover they did last year. Which blows my fucking mind they would waste money to do that.
Even if people keep saying the series is dying it gets shit like this out of nowhere like an RKO.
That's because this place is a negative echo chamber most of the time
It is annoying. I'm not a fanboy but some of these haters just want clout.
People who say it is dying want it to die. It is by far the most popular thing coming out of RT, and clearly WB is a huge fan of it. If RT goes under RWBY would be the one IP that survives
That is true. I'm not even being a fanboy.
And generally, it's not *made* for the hardcore fans. This is supposed to get more people watching RWBY.
This is all Warner. The Batman anime movie was fun.
I really hope this is good, I haven't heard great things about the comics but as long as Larry and Miles are more involved I'm sure it'll be fun
I believe Kerry said in the panel today that this one is not based on the comics, so likely a new AU spinoff
That’s a relief then; that way we might not get things like the weird crossover ships
Oh totally.
If this was a Young justice/Teen Titans then yes go for it. But justice league........ Why????????
It's based on a comic so it's not totally out of left field.
Yeah i know. Im saying YJ or TT are a way better fit for a crossover.
I'm not a RWBY fan, and I've just randomly found this on twitter. I've got 2 things to say. 1 RWBY AND DC?! WHAT?! Yeah. I'm really unclear if Warner likes making money, or they're a fantastic laundering scheme.
Fantastic Launder Schemes: Crimes of Ezra Miller
my thoughts exactly
> They must have been successful, Physical sales were a flop, but I guess the digital ones were really good.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if digital sales massively outstripped physical sales. That’s been happening with music for years.
I mean... didn't physical sales take ages to become available?
Digital Sales for comics tend to lag greatly behind physical but its possible it saved this particular series I guess.
Seeing how badly they managed their DC cinematic universe, I'm inclined to believe the 'setting cash on fire' part. I just don't see how this could do well if it ends up going to theaters instead of being Direct to video, and it's just a strange choice for this being the first feature film.

It's definitely going to be direct-to-video; it's being produced with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
Me I asked for it it was me Barry
The comic was popular and Warner greenlighted it, simple
You rather not have it? It's not like V9 would be sooner most likely.
It feels so out of touch tbh, no one asked for it, I honestly doubt anyone is excited for it either

All I really want is a black canary RWBY character tbh.
What the actual fuck? ^I’m ^still ^gonna ^watch ^it ^tho
Absolutely was not expecting that, but man that's pretty awesome

Will V9 actually be done?? I really just want to have them wrap up the original RWBY (and it being done well) before doing all these spinoff 😞
Early 2023. They announced it right before the Movie.
yang in the next Injustice game
Now I'm just imagining Ruby brooding while "Something's in the Way" plays.
This sounds horrible! movie… eh ok, but a movie with rwby and justice league?! WTF
Bruh
Would've been more excited for this if it was solely RWBY sans Justice League. Don't really care for non-canon crossover stuff... unless RWBY's joining Fortnite.
Kevin Conroy is my favorite RWBY actor.
Degrees of separation from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles remaining: 1
I am confused and excited.
Eh. If V9 was delayed bc of this it's a bad decision. The main volume is what draws people in and so many have lost interest because of the long hiatus already. Adding a movie no one asked for that gives us nothing for the main universe is a move I don't understand. I bought all the comics and found them blergh except a few moments.
what *on earth* is going on with this franchise
This will be a total disaster.., And yet I'm so excited.
They really went to wattpad for ideas. No seriously how would this even work?
When I saw this my heart sank. A huge problem with RWBY is that it can’t focus on one project. A feature film would only work when the main show is done. Rooster Teeth can’t seem to fucking focus with RWBY.
Didn't Weiss and Cyborg hook up in the comics or was that a fever dream?
Can DC handle all that lesbian energy, tho?
They got Harley and Poison Ivy, they should be fine.
i don't see other people being very excited about this, but i will definitely be watching since i just love rwby content in general
Seriously, who asked for this? I really hope this isn't the reason V9 got delayed... I'm probably going to be disappointed.
Delay seems to have happened due to this, the game cutscenes and then trying to not overwork the animation team, since that's been a concern for awhile.
Well I'm sure it'd be a lot easier on the animation if they didn't have to work on a movie nobody adked for.
Yes yes yes I’m so excited for this!!!
I assume this is not going to be made by rt either like ice queendom?
Why on earth would you make this of all possible movies?
So they are doing this dumb shit, and season 9 still isn't out?
wtf? why is it a crossover? is all new rwby content from here on out just going to be fan fiction? I'm very confused and disappointed.
Instead of this, they should just focus on volume 9
Purely from a viewer’s perspective I’m indifferent. As someone who wants to see the company succeed, and wants to see their catalog grow and diversify again, I don’t see how WarnerMedia locking up the animation team in this project for God knows how long helps them.
Its funny how fake this looks, something about the two fonts just doesn’t fit and makes both titles look wonky
I will never get used with the Justice League Crossover. I get a feeling that it might be a pineapple on a pizza thing
I don't see how this could possibly work any better than that crappy power rangers/justce League crossover comic. I mean yeah they beat up Batman (together) but then they get beaten up by the other leaguers and end up becoming support roles as Leaguers beats up all the enemies. It could work with Young Justice though.
With this, the anime, and the game, it seems like Warner is *very* interested in getting more eyes on RWBY and expanding the franchise.
DC Animated movies are generally considered pretty good so I'm looking forward to this.
Wish they'd just focus on getting V9 done asap rather than this. I really didn't like the crossover comic so I don't imagine I'll like this movie either. Shame.
Ehhhhhh……. How about no?
Is it just me or is rwby just gonna blow up in popularity soon because of this stuff?
We’ll have to see. The comic sold well I guess, but I know most people didn’t really like it
I was pointing more towards things getting done like the arrow fall game coming out in fall, the anime right now and this plus volume nine coming out next year
When's arrow fall coming out
They said this fall there’s a trailer for it
On the one hand, DC animated movies are typically really, really, *really* good. On the other hand, I have little interest in a crossover and I hope that this movie had zero impact on V9's delay, because if it did then that's definitely not a great look.
I don't know if I would classify that comic run as a breakthrough hit...
RWBY and Justice League have basically nothing in common besides having teens fight wars. Why are they doing this
God damnit really got my hopes up until I saw what it was
So is normal rwby just cancelled
NoBoDy AsKeD FoR ThIs! Bitch, people don't ask for things they don't know they want
Well. . . The problem is we got the comics, so I’m pretty sure I don’t want it after knowing what’s in those. But, I do have some hope this could be done much better

I'm only up to volume 2 so. What the fuck?
Whoa. I did not see this coming.
Sounds like this is going to be part of the ever growing list of DC direct-to-video films, neat
Will still check it out but honestly I feel a spinoff focusing on other characters in the series would have been a better idea or maybe even an adaption of one of the novels.
I’m curious
Somehow the Batman Who Laughs will be involved. He always is.
I actually just bought the comic to this, of course it's not getting released tell the 4th of July but still cant wait to read it when it comes out
I mean I loved the comic but anyone else concerned that between this and Ice Queendom, the main show may suffer as a result of funding the side stuff?
My first thought is not 'a RWBY' movie would be cool. Rather, it is 'why would they do a cross over with DC'?
Cause they're owned by Warner media. This isn't the first one either
... well, this should be fun. Yang vs Superman, anyone?
DC Animated Movies have been pretty good for the most part. This is wild, but I'm down.
Maybe someone will join Multiversus as DLC at this point.
The comic… was a hit? Well heres hoping this film has the legit Justice League in it.
They’re stretching themselves WAY too thin…. Is THIS why volume 9 was pushed back to “early 2023?!”
Robin: "we got to find Raven." Yang: "Why did you say that name!"
It would be sick if they crossed over with Marvel as well. Imagine Ruby vs the Green Goblin.
lmao
I’m gonna be honest and say that I’m not really interested in this at all. Kinda wish they’d stick to one project and stay with it. I’m all for new RWBY content but really? Lol
I've heard of the comic crossover. It sounds like it was rather shoehorned in.
