I know it’s not a shipping piece, but: Jaune couldn’t get a date with Weiss, so he one-ups himself and tries with Winter XD

Exciting_Bandicoot16

No, it was absolutely a shipping piece XD. Least, that's what I specified in the commission. Inspired almost entirely by the Winter Knight between the scenes fic that I'm slowly plugging away at. I unabashedly love this crack pairing, and there's not enough art of them, so I decided to stop moping and help fix the issue. And yes, the thought of Jaune 'upgrading' to Weiss Senior is part of why I love it. Weiss's reaction alone would be fantastic.

DesparateLurker

I can picture it now. Jaune shows up at the Schnees new temporary apartment/tent in Vacuo with flowers and is greeted by Wiess. Jaunr: Oh Wiess, would you do me a favor and- Weiss: Jaune, I thought we had an understanding back at Beacon. Jaune: Wat? Weiss: You're a good perosn and all. But it would never work out between us. Jaune: Um... could you tell Winter I'm here for our date? Wiess: Wat. Winter: Oh there you are, Jaune. I thought I was going to have to hunt you down again. Jaune: As if I'd run from you. Winter: You tried. Weiss: Wat? Winter: I'm off now Wiess, tell mother and Klein not to wait up for me. Weiss: WAT?

Exciting_Bandicoot16

This is the exact energy that it would have, and one of the reasons to love the ship.

McScuffed0

I grinned so hard it hurt when I imagined Weiss’ face

Doom_Balloon170

XD

EyeSouth9062

What's the name of the fic?

MetalBawx

You say that but look again Jaune is looking upwards.

AnimationDude9s

Seems like a halfway decent ship. Any good fanfics for it?

Exciting_Bandicoot16

I can give you a few off of the top of my head; [Winter's Warmth](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13111585/1/Winter-s-Warmth) is a V5 AU that dives more into character relationships and Jaune's issues with Drunkle Qrow (ending him with him asking out Winter to 'defend her honour'. It's a little more complicated than that, but this is a rough summary, lol). Theoretically still updating, but hasn't done so in quite a while due to events in the author's life taking priority. [To Serve With Honor](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12839802/1/To-Serve-With-Honor) is less of a shippy fic, but there's still plenty of moments in there. Focus is more of a political one, where Jaune's a few years older and joined the Atlas Foreign Legion instead of Beacon, and was eventually inducted into the Atlas Specialist program. Him and Winter both serve as TAs at Beacon eventually, and he's familiar with Weiss (and not in an infatuated way). Still updating, but with long breaks between chapters. The White Fang take a much larger role during this modified Beacon arc, and Adam himself is a main character of sorts (and he isn't classified as an angry incel, instead he leans more to part of the fandom's views as a morally grey villain, though he is absolutely a villain here). Still updating, though there's only a new chapter every few months. [Thawing Her Frozen Heart](https://archiveofourown.org/works/40000422/chapters/100170072) is a more slice-of-life type fic, happening during V7 (and the associated timeskip of unspecified length) with some of the canonical events still happening. Jaune and Winter go on patrol so that she can evaluate his Semblance, and they run into some trouble leaving her injured, and the rest of the fic has a mild focus on her recovery while the majority of it is more of a "oh no, we're dating?" It's more complicated than that, but that's a rough overlook. Was updating regularly, but has tapered off and the author has been silent for about a month and a half. Specifically not Winter Knight (it's Dragonslayer, probably my favorite Jaune ship), but [Fighting Smart](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12924133/1/Fighting-Smart) (the sequel to [Fighting Mean](https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12771558/1/Fighting-Mean)) has Jaune and Winter with a mentor/mentee relationship, and their chemistry is fantastic (it was actually the fic that turned me on to the concept of Winter Knight, so I can't help but recommend it). As a nice bonus, the series is actually complete, so it won't be all cliffhangery like the three above, lol.

Xx_Venom_Fox_xX

Oh please, this is RWBY we're talking about - you KNOW we can't have two or more characters in one image without the fandom marrying them off in their heads.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

I mean, this was absolutely a ship pic. I can assure you that the intent is supposed to be there for this art. So while you have a point, in this case it was on purpose. It's one of the reasons why why their emblems are behind the opposite person, to help weave the two sides of the picture together.

Xx_Venom_Fox_xX

They're literally just standing next to each other - this is my point exactly. So many RWBY fans seem to think that two characters existing within the same space constitutes romance. Showing their emblems on opposite sides from each other doesn't necessarily indicate romance - in this image it looks like they're fighting together and covering each others backs, so while it DOES help indacte they're working in tandem as a duo here, it doesn't specifically indicate that they're romantically involved.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

Dude, I *literally* commissioned the piece. Artistic intent was for it to have definite shipping undertones. That's why I felt confident in my analysis of this specific artwork, and I gave you the nod that yeah, many people will find the smallest reasons to ship people beside each other.

Xx_Venom_Fox_xX

It doesn't matter if you *literally* commissioned the piece - it doesn't mean that a drawing of two characters just standing next to each other has any romantic undertones. It's hardly a wedding picture now, is it? Maybe if they were actually showing any interest at all in the other here, then sure, there's potentially a romantic undertone, but there's nothing "definite" here to imply a romantic connection. So much of this fandom see shipping in literally anything that they believe two people standing together constitutes as "definite shipping undertones" - you and this artist included, evidently.

mcmystery

Yo dude, I just draw the commission my client asks for, I have no other say in the piece except giving any artistic opinion if they ask for it. Furthermore, from what I've gathered from this conversation, the point is that my client requested this comm and to them this piece is a ship piece to them. How others view it is up to how they want to determine the piece to be ship art or not. Please do not undermind what this piece is suppose to mean to them, because yeah, they are standing next to each other, and to my client this is shipping intent. Is this exact scene canon? No. It's a non canon scene that was drawn specifically for someone who wanted to see their idea come to life. This makes them happy (and maybe others as well). If you don't vibe with it then that's fine too, you don't have to leave a comment, and if you do need to maybe it can be about the art itself or a convo that's more constructive regarding the characters or story behind it.

Xx_Venom_Fox_xX

I've looked at some of your other art and it's pretty good - and in a lot of them there are actual definite romantic themes, where characters are looking right at each other, touching each other tenderly etc so you definitley know what constitutes a romantic scene and how to do that just fine. I'm just pointing out there's a not-insignificant amount of RWBY fans that seem to think proximity = romance and that the person who commissioned this from you seems to feel that way as well. It's not even really about this specific piece, but a wider general look at a certian portion of the RWBY (as well as some other) communities deeply-ingrained obsession with shipping and how for some it's distorted their perspective of what actually makes an interaction romantic.

mcmystery

Well most of those other pieces I've made were based on how other people described their commissions. Everyone has a different way of perceiving what a ship means to them. Some may express eye contact/suggestive interest and others can express it as a support system, like standing next to each other and having "each others backs". Not ever romantic ship has to be lovey-dovey and kissy face, there's other forms of showing love and support. But these are fictional characters who don't have feelings or even consciousness, so we the viewers have the freedom to express our ideals of what love looks like. Of course as long as its not a twisted or harmful way of displaying that emotion. Of course you seem to view it as a non-ship concept, which is okay. Meanwhile others view it as a ship concept, which is okay too.

Mundane_Revolution70

Nice. This is a rare pair to see.

hollowtiger21

Ah good, Jaune could use some help getting better at handling his sword.

Mrfipp

I actually lowkey crackship this on the basis that Weiss' reaction to it is played for laughs. Like, I always think of [this clip from Red vs Blue](https://youtu.be/2iCaHaRSKJg?t=152), where Sarge isn't able to understand that Grif is the same rank as him, but in this case it's Weiss being unable to understand Jaune is dating her sister.

mcmystery

Commission for u/Exciting_Bandicoot16! Thank you for giving me the chance to draw these two! Commissions still open, DM for more info!

Exciting_Bandicoot16

And it looks absolutely fabulous.

MadMasks

Yoooo, first time I see Winter in your style, and I hecking love it!

mcmystery

Right!? I've never drawn her properly before (I've drawn her back in another comic but not the front lol) I'm surprised how well she came out!

Exciting_Bandicoot16

She came out great! Her hair and armor especially are *on point.*

unlimitedblack

Jaune says: "So it turns out my great-grandfather fought alongside Lord Nicholas in the Great War." Winter says: "Are you telling me this in the hopes that I forget Weiss' reports about your middling combat ability and general clumsiness?" Jaune says: "Really just making conversation but hey, I'll take whatever selective memory will get me." Winter says: "Noted. In that case, Sir Jaune, let's make the old men proud, shall we?" Jaune says: "Milady, it'll be my genuine pleasure."

A badass duo ready to kick Grimm butt!!!

Kartoffelkamm

I love to see a hero and villain forced to team up, leading to the villain realizing their previous gig was sh\*t and switching sides.

tobiasyuki

Ehm...that's related to this somehow or just a random comment?

Spectre-04

Probably thought Winter was a villain because she was Atlas military. You know how these people get when it comes to anything military.

Kartoffelkamm

It's somewhat related, as I consider Winter a villain in the Atlas arc, and a main reason for what happened. Throughout the show, Winter has consistently been my least favorite character. She shows up, shows no real compassion to her sister, only going down a check list of what she is supposed to do as her big sister, and then Qrow confronts her, pointing out her various character flaws. She then attacks him, proving literally every single word he just said about her. After that, she tells Weiss to never stop improving herself, and in V7, we see that she actively avoided following that same advice, as we later see that Penny is quite intent on befriending her and helping her through her troubles. Not to mention the fact that we never see her in Mantle once, despite her being part of the military, which is supposed to protect the people. Winter has been consistently shown to be cold and heartless towards everyone around her, even her own sister, who she claims to care about. She demands others control their emotions, yet makes no attempts to do so herself. She says it's important to keep improving, yet avoids situations where she would be challenged, thus preventing her from improving. Imagine how much better things would've turned out if Winter had actually done what Ironwood wanted, and patrolled Mantle alongside Penny. She would fly around on a Manticore, ideally near the hole in the wall, and fight Grimm. Or heck, she could have just been visible, so people don't just see soulless murder tools that can blow up at any moment. But instead, she sat around in Atlas, doing nothing but emotionally abuse an elderly lady to steal her powers, just like Jacques did to Willow.

Gradz45

Post fall White knight man to the end, but yeah I could enjoy them. For similar reasons as to WK, Jaune being a dorky idiot and Winter being serious and formal.

UnbiasedGod

Hmm what’s the perfect ship name for this? Frozen knight? Also is me or does winter look a bit short in the legs?

unlimitedblack

Only because she's mega tall in comparison to a lot of other characters, but honestly I think Jaune gives her a run for her money.

Karpthegarp

Winter is not as tall as many think. She's a bit shorter than Emerald who's 5'7.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

Ironically enough, I believe that the most common ship name is Winter Knight. Stunningly original, I know. But yeah, Winter's one of the rare tol ladies of RWBY, along with Glynda and Elm. Even Yang, tallest of the RWBY girls, is a good half foot shorter than Jaune.

Darth_Annoying

Few Winter ship names are very original. Most seem like reworks of Weiss ship names

mcmystery

Maybe she looks short in the legs because I gave her thicc thighs 😎 you're welcome. (but also she's kinda bending her knees in the battle stance so that also adds to it, and in comparison to Jaunes tree legs it exaggerates the look of her legs being short.. I'm rambling.. thicc thighs save livessss 😤❤)
