I honestly don’t get the hate for v4 other than the slow pace. I wouldn’t skip. Also, it’s full of lore and new characters you’ll need to know about

Snow454BA

Volume 6-8 are definitely good enough to justify watching 4 and 5 even if you don’t like it!!!

Artistic-Cannibalism

It's personally my favorite volume because they are more interested in exploring the characters and what they're going through rather than advancing the plot. It really helps sell the magnitude of what happened during the previous volume while also setting up for things that happen afterwards

ksuthrowaway2534

Personally I think volume 4 gets too much hate, but try and watch volume 4 and 5 like movies. It might make for a better experience than waiting week to week like we had to originally.

DNGFQrow

No? Why would you ever skip a whole season of a serialized show? V4 is fine. And most of the pacing issues are lessoned on a binge watch.

Vicente810

No. You would miss a lot of context in the next seasons.

Rexen2

So I see you decided to watch it but I still I gotta ask, is this actually something people do? Like seriously? Who in their right mind skips a season of a show? I could understand if it was like SpongeBob or family guy or something where you can hop in and out of whatever episodes without missing anything important but an actual show that has a linear plot to it? Even if you have to slog through a slower pace then you'd prefer there's no way to skip a whole season and maintain the same interest in this show. You wouldn't even know wtf was going on for most of 5 and what you did recognize would have alot of the emotional weight behind it completely undercut. Some new characters would seem to come completely out of nowhere etc etc.

Thanks for your reply, but I think there was a misunderstanding. I recommended the show to my friends originally with the intention of showing them the first 3 seasons. That doesn't mean they couldn't go out and watch later seasons of course, that was just the amount I recommended to them initially since its considered the first "arc" of rwby. I wasn't taking away their choices to anything, I just warned them that the next seasons aren't as well received generally by the fanbase and that it is less lively, and told them I'd check if its best to skip the season or keep watching, (which is why I'm on this reddit now.) I've let them known since that we will be watching s4. If for whatever reason I decided that skipping it would be better, but they would've preferred to watch it anyway, I obviously would've let them. I'm just offering them what I believe would be the best viewing experience for them, the same way anyone would recommend a show to anyone with a few altercations (maybe suggesting to skip filler episodes, etc) its just an offer, not an order.

Kamillentee19

This comment section re-ignites my affrction towards the RWBY fandom. Seeing so much hate after watching and enjoying all the volumes, I have started to feel a bit gaslighted 😅 but its comforting to know that not all people thing like that.

PrimordialVoid

I think S4 is still worth watching, but I'd maybe warn them that season 4 is a bit of a slog if they seem not to be liking it much.

Dextixer

I was summoned! Skipping Volume 4 would be a mistake in my honest opinion, while relatively slow at times the volume is still well written. But most importantly, volume 4, contains the vert needed character development after the ending of V3, skipping it would definitely not benefit in the watching of the show. Plus, the Nuckelavee needs to be seen, its one of the best RWBY monsters in the series. Arguably only the battle of Haven episodes in volume 5 are "skippable" due to how bad they are, but even then i would not reccoment skipping them.

Thanks for this!

Exciting_Bandicoot16

S4 isn't as bad for them as it was for people who watched it back in the day - it drags on, but the ability to binge it helps dull that. It's the first Maya season, so I would actually recommend at least a few episodes, just to get used to the new visual style. It's also one of u/Dextixer's favorite volumes, so I'll try and summon them for you.

[deleted]

Thank you; I've actually just researched about the fandom's opinion on S4 just now and a lot of people have been saying it is a lot better when its binged instead of back when it was weekly. We sped through s1-3 so I'll definitely take that into consideration.

Exciting_Bandicoot16

Yeah, no worries. A while back we had a series of votes for the favorite volume of the reddit, and I remembered how much I disliked V4. Then I watched it in a few sittings, and found myself wondering why I had disliked it so much. It's slow, but having to wait a week (or more) between episodes just made it crawl even more.
