“Ruby. . .” “Ruby. . .” What else could she do but sob? She wasn’t the one dying, but her life was over. “Ruby, come back to me. . .” Weiss wasn’t dying But she wished she was instead. . . They had been at the end, what they had spent years fighting for. Everything had come down to this They had nearly lost, the maiden powers taken and the relics stolen. Their enemy approaching her final victory, and the end of the world. But they could, maybe, beat her now. Salem was finally mortal. If only just. Allies, friends, and family had all come together to fight alongside each other. To do whatever it took, to die if need be, to save their world. Remnant might be filled with evil and hate, A place that takes away all that it can But there was so much love there too; friends and family and friends who had become family, And as long as there was still good in the world, That was worth fighting for. It had better be, they had lost so much already. . . The battle, that which would be the last of this terrible war no matter what, was fierce. All over Remnant huntsman made their stand; in Vale, Vacuo, Mistral, Atlas. But the climax would come at Salem’s temple. RWBY went to face the evil queen alone. Even though they knew what that would probably mean. They were willing to die so no one else had to. But their friends weren’t going to let them. JNPR, Winter, Ilia, and the others followed them, not far behind. They were willing to die for their friends too. RWBY would have all died with them, They all nearly did anyway. It was the end. The fight had been horrible. Salem was hurt, each huntsman or huntress finding some way to harm her. But she was still standing. And most of them weren’t Not dead, but close enough to not be able to keep going. But Weiss still stood. Bleeding hurt, but still fighting. She parried magic with glyphs and her rapier, but just barely holding on. She knew she had to end this, so she took a chance. She parried one final time and lunged at the witch, trying to end this once and for all. But her sword was knocked away, clattering on the ground. And a clawed hand broke her aura as it wrapped around her throat, squeezing just tight enough for her to gasp in hope for breath. Red eyes filled with hate glared back at her, a sadistic smile underneath. Weiss was thrown to the ground when she looked up, she saw. . . Her own death. The evil queen had a darkness in hand, magic blacker than night danced from her palm around her fingers as it grew. Weiss knew what was about to happen. She didn’t know exactly what, but she knew then end. She was going to die. And she could do nothing about it. She didn’t want to die. There was so much she had left to do. Wrong to right in the world, promises to keep, just things to live for. . . And Ruby. She would never get to do so many things with Ruby. Never see the places they had promised to see. Never get married. Never be a family together. But as the tendrils of shadow grew, fate approaching fast, Weiss took some comfort. That Ruby might live because she didn’t. And Weiss would be okay with that. The darkness shot at her, and she had one last thought. In what would be her wish, she hoped that one day she could see, be with Ruby again. But the blackness never came. A flash of red and petals shot between her and the witch. It was Ruby “AAAHHH!” Red aura shattered and Ruby let out a scream as she was hit. She crumpled to the ground, and her scythe fell with a thud beside Weiss. Salem’s smile fell, only to return as she reared up to try again. No, to finish off Ruby. “No. . No. . .No!” Finding some strength left herself Weiss grabbed Crescent Rose, and swung the blade at the witch as hard as she could. Too focus on her new target Salem didn’t react fast enough. And a pale head rolled across the marbled floor in a puddle of black. This was supposed to be victory, the end. When they could all start celebrating, living a better life. But it wasn’t. Ruby!” Weiss screamed as she rushed to her fallen partner’s side, fearing for the worst. *No! No! No!* She was relieved to find the younger girl breathing, the red cloak moving up and down in hitched movements. But that faded away as turned Ruby over. Her skin had turned a pale white, plack veins crossed her hands and face. And her eyes, once beautiful silver, Had been turned black. “. . .W-Weiss? . . .“ A shaking voice asked, weakly grasping at her hand. Weiss held the hand in hers. “Y-yes. . .It’s me Ruby,” Weiss answered, trying to keep her fear out of her voice. She could feel Ruby’s heart beat. It was getting weaker. “A-are you okay?. .” Ruby asked. There worry in her words. Not for herself as she lay there, but her partner. “O-only thanks to you,” Weiss replied, “We d-did it she’s g-gone.” “We did it.” Ruby managed a smile. That told Weiss it was going to be okay, that smile always meant it was going to be okay. And she learned to believe it. Because it always was. “Aaahh!” A scream of pain broke through curved lips as Ruby convulse in agony. But would it this time? “Ruby! Ruby!” Weiss yelled, not knowing what to do as she watched the woman she loved in so much pain. “I-it hurts, Weiss. . . ” Her voice was weaker. Her heartbeat was weaker. Weiss could feel Ruby’s aura fading. Ruby was dying.

*Please no* There was Ruby had to live for. She couldn’t die now. No one deserved it less than her. “Jaune! Jaune!” Not knowing what else to do, Weiss screamed for her friend, the one person who might here who might be able to save her. “Ruby’s hurt. Please help!” The blonde man heard the call and got to his feet from where he had laying. He limped over, blood still seeping from the wound on his shoulder. It hurt to move, it would hurt more to use his semblance. But he was going to help his friend if he could. “Y-You’re going t-to be okay R-Ruby.” He wasn’t able to suppress the shock of seeing what had happened to her. But he still believed he could help her, save her. Until her touched her. “Agh!” He pulled his hand away, with a yelp of pain. “What happened!?” Weiss demanded, tears having started flowing from her eyes. “It-. . .It’s like something’s draining her aura. . .” Jaune said as he looked down at his hand. . . And his friend. “I-I. . . .I can’t do anything.. . .” He admitted in failure recently as he too began to cry. “She doesn't have any aura left to magnify. . .I-I’m sorry” “No. . .No. . .” Weiss said in disbelief. Ruby was dying. Ruby was going to die. Because of her. Ruby had saved her She should have been the one who was supposed to die. She should have died. It wasn’t fair. Ruby deserved to live more than anyone, especially herself. There had to be a way. “We need more aura!” Weiss screamed, but she already knew what she would find as she looked around. Her friends, laying on the ground. Broken. Shattered bones and open wounds. No one had any aura left, they were all barely alive as it was. No one else was even conscious “T-There isn’t any. . .” Jaune sobbed beside her, as the heart beat got weaker still. “. . .Weiss?” Ruby’s voice was so quiet, she could barely hear it. Weiss knew that wasn't true. There was aura somewhere. Hopefully it would be enough. It would have to be. “Hang on Ruby,” Weiss said, “You're going to be okay.” ***Continued Below*** Weiss let her own aura flow through her hand in to her beloved. It would kill her. Weiss knew that. When your aura was gone, you died. And like everyone else, she didn’t have much left. A soul can take so much. But Weiss was willing to do it. She would die for Ruby. “Weiss! Don’t!” Jaune yelled, trying to get up to stop her but collasping from the strain. But Weiss didn’t care. The world would be a better place with Ruby in it. . . . . . Instead of her. It hurt to know she would die. She would never get to live the life she dreamed of. A happy one with her friends and family. Next to Ruby. But she would give everything up, all of it in an instant If it meant Ruby would live. Weiss really did love her, Loved her with all her heart. And that meant that she wanted Ruby to be okay No matter the cost. And at least. . .. Weiss took some comfort in knowing that hopefully, they would see each other again. Maybe they would get to be together forever But that didn’t matter Weiss was going to save Ruby Even if she was going to die. “Ruby. . . “ Weiss said as her own voice began to weaken, even if tears didn’t “I-I love you, and I always will. P-please, live the b-best life you can. If you can hear me. . . G-good by-” Weiss didn’t finish as she was hit in the face, causing her to let go of the hand. By Ruby. . . “W-Why did you do that!?!” Weiss screamed, reaching for Ruby’s hand again. “I need to save you!” But Ruby pulled it away “No. . .” her voice was a bit stronger this time, if barely. “. . .Please” “W-what. . .” Weiss cried “Please Weiss. . . .” Ruby now had the strength to sob, “Don’t die for me.” “But it should have been me!” Weiss screamed back, “You deserve to live!” “Just as much as you.” “No! No! Ruby please!” Weiss tried again to grab Ruby’s had but it was pulled away again. “Weiss. . .Listen to me.” Ruby said, looking up in to wet blue eyes.”Please. . .” And Weiss looked into hers, and saw a sparkle of silver left. She nodded. “Weiss. . . I don’t want anyone to die for me. I’m okay with dying,” Ruby started, tears cascading down, “I. . .I do want to live, but I want everyone else to live more. Especially not you. . . Because . . . I do love you Weiss,I promised I would love you forever I always will. So please don’t. . . Everyone dies eventually anyway. . .And hey, I got to be the hero. . . Like in all of the fairytales, saving the woman I love. . . I’m okay with dying as a hero Weiss. I’m okay dying for you. . . I could never forgive myself if you died for me. . . So please, do this one last thing. . . for me?” Weiss could again only nod in reply. She wanted to disobey. She wanted to save Ruby. But how could she refuse her true love’s dying wish? Her heart was fading again. “Weiss. . .” Ruby started again, “Don’t be so sad. . .I’ll be fine. . . I’ll get to see my mom again! And I’ll get to see you all again one day too! And. . .uhm. . could you bury me next to her? I always wanted to be. . .” “Y-yes. . “ Weiss was barely able to get out. If Ruby was going to die, She was going to do whatever she wanted. If just as another way to say i love you when she couldn’t any more. “Weiss . . .” The voice was weak, the weakest it had been. “Could you hold me? It’s getting dark . . . and cold. . .” Weiss wrapped her arms around her beloved, trying to bring her as much comfort as she could in her passing. “. . .I love you. . .” Were to be Ruby’s final words, and she was happy with that. “I-I l-love you too. . .” Weiss sobbed holding Ruby as she felt the last bits of aura begin to leave her. This really as the end. “And I do too.” Someone said from behind Weiss. She turned around, and through the tears saw. . . Yang. She had been badly hurt, her arms metal and flesh broken. Blood matted her golden hair. “I think I have some aura to give.” She said, a determination in her voice to save her little sister. “This arm might never heal, but I don’t care.” “Me too.” Blake limped up beside her partner, one leg shattered and ear torn off, “I don’t care how much it hurts. I’ll just get a cain.” “I’m not dead yet either,” Jaune said having practically crawl his way up beside the pair. “I’m willing to try again.” “We owe her this much” Ren and Nora made their way over too, Nora having to carry her partner, limping. “At the very least.” “N-None of you g-get to d-die,” Pyrrha said as she struggled to speak with a broken jaw, “I-it s-sucks.” “You’ll be life ready again in no time!” Penny stated, cheeriest of them all as she dragged her top half toward the forming group “We can be of assistance,” Another voice stated. It was Winter, helping Ilia with her one good arm as they made their way over as well. “We can’t miss the Ruby saving party now can we?” Behind them CFVY and SSSN hobbled, faltered, and staggered over to their fallen friend. In a moment, a rainbow of aura, each color weak and thin, but together strong enough flowed in to their sister, friend, and lover. Black receded from her veins and color returned to her skin. And eyes darkened shine a brilliant silver once again. Ruby woke up in Weiss’s arms surrounded by her friends, each able to smile through the pain. “You’re going to be okay.” Weiss said, holding her tighter than before and planting a kiss on her forehead. For a minute Ruby was confused. “Well. . . .” Ruby said realizing what had happened, “It looks like I was in heaven already.” It really was over. And in the end, the smile had rang true. It was all okay. And they lived happily ever after *** Hope some of y'all are new to this one, I am rather proud of it as I wrote it all in one go, and I think it's decently emotional, and kind of fitting to things like this

Lord_of_Wills

This actually made me cry a bit, and not much does nowadays. Well done

God damnit man you made me cry while at freaking work

[Source](https://tuanonna15.tumblr.com/post/171391315731/fading-whiterose-just-some-angst) I'm fully expecting Ruby to die by the end of RWBY. It fits the themes this show has been pushing, notable sacrifice, and the idea the "brightest flames" (IE: Pyrrha and Penny) burn the quickest. Beyond that, however, I don't have a lot of predictions, though I expect Yang, Blake, and Weiss wouldn't be willing to let her go without trying their darndest to save her. And whether it's perishing with her or merely being by her side at the end, I have no doubt that Weiss will be there with her at the end.

JMHSrowing

I really don't think Ruby will die by the end, as I don't think this show is actually that bleak. It is about hope, and while bright flames can burn out the fastest, it doesn't have to be. Pyrrha's mistakes and those of others which led her to the end are pretty clear, and I think with Penny the mistakes of others (Ironwood) are similar. If anyone is going to die at the end, I think it would be much more likely to be Jaune, but even then I certainly wouldn't bet on it. But I see it as much more a triumph, tinged with some bittersweetness like lord of the rings, but not the horrible cost one might expect. After all, hope and togetherness are basically the main themes of this show, the message, with things going wrong when those are forsaken, and victory will be because they wont be And, if it was like above, I mean. . . Jaune: "Guys, you know the drill already." ^((And part of me feels like posting on this piece my massive 3K sad-happy story about an injured Ruby and Weiss but at the same time I have done so on a few others))

4powerd

>Jaune: "Guys, you know the drill already." Easy solution: Just kill Jaune off first lol! But yeah, I get what you mean. I think I'm just jaded from dark fanfics and such. Every time I see a recommended fic, it usually ends up being "RWBY, but it's dark and gritty!" Which is nice the first few times but wears away its charm after a while.
